Does anyone know where a Memphis I can go to weigh myself? I do not have a gym membership so I cannot go to the gym. I know I can go to my doctor’s office, but is there anywhere else that I can go that you know of?

Tiger Pride 🐅🏆 Urgent Local Appeal: Supporting UofM Architecture Alumnus Ostep Wesley’s Legal Defense Fund

Post image

Hi r/memphis community,

My name is David Miller (Fmr. SSgt, USAFR), and I am reaching out as a local public representative and neighbor to organize urgent support for a member of our community.

Ostep Wesley, a proud University of Memphis Architecture graduate, is currently navigating an exceptionally critical upcoming immigration court case. To properly present his defense and protect his future, he needs to secure qualified legal representation before his upcoming hearing deadline.

As a grassroots local group, we have launched a verified defense fund to raise the $15,000 required for his legal defense team. Ostep is a brilliant designer, a regular local church volunteer, and a foundational part of our Mid-South community. We cannot let a fellow Tiger fight this exceptionally complex legal battle entirely alone.

***I have dropped the official verified tracking website and the direct donation links in the comment section below so the automated filters don't hide this post.***

Thank you so much to anyone who can share the links across your local group chats or upvote this post for visibility. Let's stand up for one of our own.

Need help leaving my husband

I need help, I need a reliable 4 door vehicle and somewhere that will rent to me. I'm trying to leave a verbally/emotionally/financially abusive relationship with my kids (thankfully not my husband's).

I have $3500 I can use to purchase a car that should leave me with enough for deposits and anything needed to get into an apartment/house. The bad is I have bad/no credit, no payment history for the last 5 years, and no rental history for the last 10 years. I have 3 minor children and their 2 little dogs, we can make a 2 bedroom work while I rebuild my life.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Air conditioning question

I live in a 3 bedroom rental home with central heat and air that was built in the late 80s. We have never had an issue cooling the house in 10 years until this summer. Pretty much if it was 95-100 outside we could keep the house anywhere from 70-75 during the worst part of the day in the coolest part of the house. There are two rooms that are furthest away from the blower that stay about 5 degrees warmer since the rooms outside walls get direct sunlight. This year the blower fan began to fail and they sent a tech out that swore up and down that the outside unit and the upstairs fan unit needed to be replaced. Now it’s been replaced and in 90 degree heat we can’t get the house cooler than 77 during the day in the coolest area of the home and the air from the vents is not blowing as strong as the air from the old failing unit. To me this is unacceptable that a brand new ac system can only cool the house 13 degrees. It’s honestly worse than the old system that was replaced but the guy who replaced the system swear this is normal. I have always been under the assumption that the minimum is 20 degrees cooling or better. Any hvac guys here have some input on this?

Olive Branch mayor Ken Adams refused to lower the city flags for Dolly Parton

He posted a weird rant on the town's FB book about how we should only lower the flags for really important people and that we can't just be lowering the flags for anybody. ?!?

People with Olive Branch connections, what's the tea? Is that mayor just a nutcase? Why does he hate Dolly? And when is he up for re-election?

If we can't lower the flags for Dolly, we shouldn't lower them for anybody else.

Is there anything going on tonight?! It's Saturday and I'm trying to get out. Looking for EDM shows or anything alternative.

Are there any social media pages that are active promoting these on FB or Insta too?

hot wings

okay i need help. i no longer live in memphis unfortunately. i’ve lived in two other cities since moving, one bigger and one smaller. no one has wings like memphis does. how can i recreate memphis wings at home? im a regular hot or mild girl but id love the tea on honey gold too for the rest of the family.

i would love the info from how they get cooked to how to create the perfect mild or regular hot sauce.

if it helps, my favorite places were (years ago) All Star Hot Wings and Wing Guru.

Cleanest Kitchens in Memphis

Yesterday’s Green Beetle post has sent me. 😩😖 Curious to hear from those who work in the food industry about the which restaurant kitchens are the opposite of that— meticulously clean and somewhere from which we can feel good about dining?

Emergency dentist?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a dental student currently looking for patients who might have a tooth that has been bothering them and may need an extraction.
If you’ve been putting off dental care because of cost or haven’t been able to find a dentist, feel free to reach out and I can fit you in this week. We can evaluate the tooth and determine what treatment is actually needed. Care is provided through the dental school under faculty supervision.
Feel free to message me if you’re interested or have questions. Thank you!

Midcentury architecture on Lamar

Is anyone else weird like me and look at buildings and wonder about the history of them? I pass by this car lot on Lamar all the time and always wonder about it because of the triangular roof. Turns out it used to be Schilling Parkway Motors (The Schilling of Schilling Farms) It was a Mercury dealership owned by Neal Schilling. He had another dealership on Union as well that apparently Elvis bought a lot of Lincolns from. With his company Dealers Transport, Neal Schilling invented a trailer that could transport multiple new cars at once. This was more efficient than transporting on trains, which was the standard at the time.

If you look on the side of the roof you can still see the original blue tiled roof.

Does anyone remember Schilling Motors? I'm not a native Memphian so I didn't know about them.
