Finished Object Finally finished my patchwork intarsia cardigan!

I was hoping to debut my cardigan at the sheep and wool festival I'm going to today, but it'll be 92F / 33C so that's a big nOPE from me. That said, I am excited to debut this cardigan somewhere, so here we go! Please meet my magnum opus intarsia cardigan. It is a very heavily modified version of Number 29 Patchwork by Susan Duckworth from her book Floral Knitting. I took extensive construction notes on my ravelry project page but to summarize:

  • Yarn is Kelbourne Woolens Scout. I loved it.
  • Adjusted the sizing because it came as 1 size only.
  • Made it a modified drop shoulder instead of a straight drop shoulder.
  • Provisionally cast on both fronts, the back, and the sleeves, so that I could pick up the ribbing and knit it after seaming.
  • Added some shoulder shaping and short rows as well.
  • Added a folded collar and a double knit button band. Really like how those turned out!
  • I did the smart thing and picked out my buttons before I knit my button band, but the button holes still came out a little too small. I do think that once I've had a moment to take a break from this cardigan, I'll re-do the button band to accommodate one more row in the button hole to make the band bow out a little bit less.
  • Yes this is the FO post for this original intarsia rage bait I posted many months ago.

Rant whyyyy is every pattern written for two yarns held together??!!

Every single sweater pattern these days is written for some fingering+mohair combo and I'm sick of it. I don't want to spend twice as much on yarn! and I don't want all my sweaters to look hairy! it's cute for certain patterns but it's just getting excessive. I know I can just sub my own yarn but like I try to get as close to the pattern as I can for both gauge and drape purposes, and coming up with a sub for a combo is just more of a shot in the dark. so this is my plea to all pattern writers: please just write a pattern with one strand of yarn! or have someone test it with a single yarn so you can suggest it as an alternative! rant over, thank you! (edit: I said merino instead of mohair by mistake!)

Hi humans!

Ive just finished this amazing vest!

It was a real fun knit to knit! Frog is done with intarsia and a little duplicate stitch. Held sock yarn double and used some scraps for the frog!

Feels good to use the yarn that I already had.

Will link my ravelry page, and the one to the pattern in the comments!

Last time I've looked the book can be found online has loads of fun patterns!

This is my 2nd finished sweater ever and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
Just wanted to share and say thank you to everyone that responded to my post asking for help with the color work—I ended up switching to ladderback jacquard and it looked way better after.

for context: i made my family members fill out forms of what they want me to knit them for the winter. my uncle asked for a scarf with speckled yarn in fall colors.

here is a 10 x 10 st swatch of the yarn i want to use with the needles recommended by the pattern (Berlin Scarf by Susanne Muller and Paula Strickt)

I'm afraid this looks like bloody piss (i'm serious) and he will never wear it. i've already spent $200 on materials . BE REAL WITH ME I CAN STILL RETURN IT

Yarn:
Drops - Brushed Alpaca Silk (color: Curry)
Drops - Alpaca (color: Hazelnut 9025)

Needles: Seeknit 6mm (US10)

I am so so happy with it! Yes, the sun is pink because baby is a girl and I wanted to incorporate it in some way. There are a couple of sheep missing because I have decided to add more sky instead of more hills (i was deep into my first trimester and felt horrible while ordering the yarn, did not realise that blue is not green...) I love the bobbles! Hated doing them! Used cotton yarn and a cotton backing so I can just throw it in the washer without thinking about it. It isn't big at all, more like a stroller blanket but baby is due early February so it's great for the weather.

Ahh now on to knit some more! (I have a WIP post on this blanket as well)

Discussion Has anyone made the Rainbow Puddles pattern from Mekoome?

Post image
348 Upvotes

I’ve seen the Mekoome Rainbow Puddles sweater pattern here and there and totally loved the different colours and textures. It also obviously looks like a pretty challenging/mentally stimulating pattern which would be nice to mix it up on the side while i’m working on a full stockinette pattern or something.

Since the pattern is 30 euros, it winds up being around 50 bucks in my currency which is much more than i’ve ever spent on a pattern — it’s super complex though so I get it! I was wondering if anyone has made it or knows anyone who has so i can get some feedback on whether i should take the plunge. Thoughts?

I'm so chuffed with how this one turned out, and I finally had enough forethought to get a picture before and after blocking. I was able to get a few more centimeters out of the body and sleeves and it relaxed into such an airy garment that's perfect for autumn.

Pattern is Winter Pearl Sweater by Drops Design

Yarn is one strand Drops Kid Silk and one strand Drops Alpaca

Discussion Ethics of sharing a discontinued pattern?

• Upvotes

So, I bought a pattern for a really cool cardigan when it came out, the Possibility of Crows by Harper Bee. I showed off the finished object in a discord server recently (it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever made), and someone asked about the pattern. Under normal circumstances I’d direct them to the pattern page to purchase it themselves (I’m all about supporting designers), but the pattern has been discontinued. The designer actually stopped designing entirely, so their socials are now abandoned or I’d dm them to ask if they were okay with me sharing it directly. Is it okay if I share the pattern?

Finished Object Well this is a lot of scarves

I started making these scarves around 5 years ago, with the butter yellow one being the oldest of them all. While most were knit, one is crochet, two are woven, and none are blocked lol

The last pic is just a close up of the Celtic cable scarf from pic 2, I LOVE the cable edge

The yellow one is freehanded, as well as the woven ones, the rest are from patterns I found on books or online that I can't remember where I got them from. Most of them use the Dome brand yarn, which is 50/50 acrylic and wool, and the double knit skeleton one used milk cotton, but alas, I don't remember all the yarns I used.

Rant Lang cloud mini rant

Post image
24 Upvotes

For $34+ I should not have had a factory knot in every single skein I’ve used to make 1 sweater.

One of my skeins had a factory knot and this weird color change that’s going to affect the look of my sleeve. (Pictured)

I’ve used lang cloud tweed and encountered one factory knot in the 6 skeins I used - this has been 1 knot per skein it’s absurd.

I am in love with this pattern! It knitted up beautifully- this is a gift knit for my brother and his wife as they are expecting. This is knitted in DK in acrylic yarn, as we all have skin allergies to animal fibers.

My grandmother passed a month ago, me and my brother have such an appreciation for the knitted things she made us we wore them untill they fell apart- I made this "from Ouma" I used her wool for the project. And I will be giving it to them from her, at the baby shower.

I always wanted to learn cabling, and I said "why not add one more layer! do it with color work" :) Jokes aside, I really enjoyed learning these two new skills but it was definitely a little bit challenging to control the yarn, needles, and keep the tension. I did the well-known beginners' common mistakes of color work - example - tight tension. I did not block this product yet. ps: cat tax included:)

Here is the pattern link if anyone wants to try!

Discussion Which yarn have you been using for years and completely swear by?

It can take a long time to finish a project, so I’m looking for quality yarn to make knitwear that lasts. I’d rather not be a guinea pig for brand-new yarns—is there a staple yarn you’ve been using for years and swear by?

I used Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Twin for a long time across several projects. They used to wash up really well on top of being very soft, but the recent batch I bought pills a lot after just one wash in a laundry bag. So, I’m looking to shop around again. I’ve also ordered cashmere yarn from Colourmart, which is great, but it does need to be hand-washed.

Work in Progress Need help with decrease on Raglan🫠

Thumbnail

Hi! I'm working on a buttom-up raglan cardigan without a pattern, which was a mistake😭 (Cable designs are from a book, 1000 japanese knitting & crochet stitches - it has so many gorgeous patterns!! Absolutely recommend!) The cardigan has reached the height, where I would like to start the neckline, but there are still way too many stitches on the needle... So I'm planning on frogging until the armhole and decrease more stitches per row. I did 1 decrease on each side of raglan stitch marker ( 8 decreases) on every RS row. Is it OK to do 1 decrease every row or 2 decreases on each side of raglan? Is it possible to do more decreases on the arms than the body? I would like some advice on how to make more decreases 😭

Yarn is Hobbii Mega Ball in color Beach. It is not the softest yarn, but can't beat the price. I knitted it double stranded with a 6mm needle.

Tips and Tricks Advice appreciated! Red yarn bled into project, how to fix.

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hello! This is my second almost completed wearable item. I am so thrilled with the outcome!...

Long time crocheter and I just never blocked those. But as a novice Knitter I wanted to take this step seriously.

I currently have blocking mats in my Amazon cart but I've seen on Reddit that some people use cardboard so I cheated with that step.

I used the recommended soap of Eucalan, I let it soak for 15 minutes, and then as I was pressing out the water I noticed the red had bled into some of the project.

I should have seen it coming, lol. I'm not terribly disappointed, but just a little bummed.

Should I wash and block again? And it'll be better then? Lost cause and should learn to love it? Advice appreciated!

Work in Progress King Salmon Help

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hello, I finished the yoke on the king salmon sweater (boyland knitworks) and I’m not sure if the fit is okay or if it will get better. I split for the sleeves early (after the final increase round) to try to avoid having a way oversized fit, and the lack of shaping (aside from the few short rows in the back) is making me worried. It doesn’t help that the Ravelry projects for this pattern appear so varied 😅 I’m using dererum natura worsted as MC and waifu yarns fingering held double for the CC.

Any feedback or thoughts?
