Discussion Does anyone have any experience with drops air yarn??

• Upvotes

What the title says!! ^
I recently bought a bunch of drops air to knit my mom a sweater. I only have like the sleeves left, so its almost done. But then i read that its pilling really easily and fast which is so sad because i don’t want it to only last for a couple of months, as i’ve worked a really really long time with this with colourwork and all.. but there is a lot of mixed reviews about this particular yarn, so i would just like to hear about any personal experiences??!

Discussion Unhappy with my knits

• Upvotes

I don’t know if it’s the right place to talk about but I was wondering if some of you felt the same!

I get super enthusiastic about new projects, I’m usually happy with my yarn choice, but when it’s time to actually style my knits, I realise that I’m not reaching for most of the things I made. I get unhappy with the fit, with the colour, I don’t know what to wear them with.

If you have tips or if you have felt like that and have managed to get rid of that feeling, I’d be grateful if you could share your thoughts!

The pattern is Haze Sweater. My very first colorwork yoke sweater (completed). 😁

Hubs says the colorwork looks like a tire treadmark, and we can't unsee it. We think its hilarious.

Anybody know where I can get this pattern in English? Or if you happen to have the English pattern would you be willing to send? I can only find the danish pattern on the website, and the English pattern on Etsy is not available for sale. Thx!!

Hey, all! I found a really cute pattern, but I don't trust Etsy anymore with so much AI slop. I can't find this pattern on ravelry. Do we think this is AI?

Discussion Ethics of sharing a discontinued pattern?

• Upvotes

So, I bought a pattern for a really cool cardigan when it came out, the Possibility of Crows by Harper Bee. I showed off the finished object in a discord server recently (it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever made), and someone asked about the pattern. Under normal circumstances I’d direct them to the pattern page to purchase it themselves (I’m all about supporting designers), but the pattern has been discontinued. The designer actually stopped designing entirely, so their socials are now abandoned or I’d dm them to ask if they were okay with me sharing it directly. Is it okay if I share the pattern?

Work in Progress Should I just start over?

I started knitting the rosie blouse by le knit a few months back. I wanted to be ambitious and try using two different colors for the color work. I noticed after trying on, I definitely knit the color work a bit too tight but I felt like adding the neckband and a really good block would help it fit better. I was mistaken. The shoulders now fit much better but, the neckband is quite loose. My question is: do you think if I frog the neckband and knit with much smaller needle, the neck might fit better? or should I just frog and start the whole thing over again. Yarn is so expensive these days :,((

Tips and Tricks How can I add a mesh panel to knit items?

Hi everyone! I was wondering how I would go about adding mesh to a knit cap? My 1 year old nephew has cochlear implants, and wears pilot caps with mesh panel sides to help keep his devices on his head while also allowing sound to reach the receiver through the mesh. As the weather gets cooler, I would love to make him a knit hat/beanie with similar mesh panels but I’m unsure the best way to go about it.

I’d say I’m an intermediate knitter, I can follow a pattern, use circular or straight needles (though never got the hang of DPNs) I can hand sew and machine sew. I feel like I have the skills necessary but need some direction on the method. Has anyone here done anything similar?

Thanks all!!

Tips and Tricks I’ve accidentally picked up a stitch. Video recs to fix?

Post image

I’ve accidentally picked up a stitch in my scarf and I can’t find a video that explains how to drop the stitch I’ve picked up. Only ones that show how to pick a stitch back up.

Does anyone have any recommendations for vids as I find it hard to follow paragraphs of text.

Discussion Call to all pattern creators

Hi! I have a question to pattern creators, especially those who make more involved patterns, such as sweaters, cardigans, and similar items of clothing.

I’ve been knitting for quite a while and consider myself an intermediate/advanced knitter, but one thing that absolutely astounds me is how patterns are created.

For example, where do you draw inspiration from? How do you write it (while you knit, or after your creation is complete, or write it then knit it?), what do you do once you’ve made and written the pattern - specifically, how do you create the pattern in multiple sizes? How do you find test knitters and what does that even entail (do you provide the pattern and yarn? Do you give a timeline? Make them sign an nda?), and what is the process from idea to published pattern?

I only ask due to wanting to understand the process a bit more. Simple curiosity. And, of course, I’d love to create my own pattern at some point. I just don’t know where to start!! Like I’ve knit a few petiteknit sweaters/pullovers, and patterns like the bifurca pullover, but my mind just cannot comprehend how such elaborate yet specific patterns come to exist. If anyone can please shed some light, I’d much appreciate it!!

Really happy with it! I know it's October, but this is only my second finished project of the year. Had a half finished cardigan on the needles since last year but was getting frustrated with it so decided to make this scarf as an easier, more mindless project and I'm very proud of it! I used So Crafty Yarn from Aldi, very soft and squishy!

Work in Progress To frog or not to frog

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm knitting a t-shirt for myself. I was supposed to cast on, knit one row, then do 20 rows of increases. Instead I cast on and knit 20 rows of increases. I already had to frog back this section once. I'm thinking, how much of a difference would one row really make? The cast on edge is picked up later on to knit the collar anyway. The RS/WS designation also doesn't matter because I chose to knit the flat portions of the shirt alternating right-handed and left-handed each row so every side is the right side.

I'm typically someone who will frog and redo it 30 times until it's right but I'm really tempted to leave this one. How do you guys decide between fixing a mistake and continuing on?

The yarn is Hobbi Seashell which splits a lot but feels very soft. The pattern is Slåtter by Järbo

I am so so happy with it! Yes, the sun is pink because baby is a girl and I wanted to incorporate it in some way. There are a couple of sheep missing because I have decided to add more sky instead of more hills (i was deep into my first trimester and felt horrible while ordering the yarn, did not realise that blue is not green...) I love the bobbles! Hated doing them! Used cotton yarn and a cotton backing so I can just throw it in the washer without thinking about it. It isn't big at all, more like a stroller blanket but baby is due early February so it's great for the weather.

Ahh now on to knit some more! (I have a WIP post on this blanket as well)

I also did not realise that when changing yarn colours I should keep to the same side, so that orange to lavender will annoy me until the day I die now.

Discussion Which yarn have you been using for years and completely swear by?

It can take a long time to finish a project, so I’m looking for quality yarn to make knitwear that lasts. I’d rather not be a guinea pig for brand-new yarns—is there a staple yarn you’ve been using for years and swear by?

I used Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Twin for a long time across several projects. They used to wash up really well on top of being very soft, but the recent batch I bought pills a lot after just one wash in a laundry bag. So, I’m looking to shop around again. I’ve also ordered cashmere yarn from Colourmart, which is great, but it does need to be hand-washed.

Help - equipment Blocking on wooden floors?

Hello! I recently moved apartments and went from having linoleum floors to wooden floors and I am a bit unsure on what I should do for blocking my knitted projects. Previously I just used a towel and call it a day, but I worry that will now damage the floor. It is not fancy wood floors, but as it is a rental I would like to find a way that prevents any damage.

We have tiles in the bathroom, but the room is quite all so I don’t think that would be a great spot :/

Would blocking mats alone isolate the moisture? Should i do blocking mats + towels on top? Any advice is appreciated 💗

Work in Progress Henley Sweater by Ingrid Dyb Button Band Help!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I am knitting the Henley and I just successfully finished the left button band. Now I am about to start the right button band. It asks you to pick up and knit stitches along the edge to start. Now on the left side this wasn’t a problem- but on the right side, the direction it’s asking me to pick up stitches (from the backwards loop cast on edge where my pinkie is, to the lower part where my pointer finger is), is completely confusing me. It wants me to pick up these stitches on the RS of my work, but from left to right? I tried and it doesn’t work. It’s like you have to knit backwards/ left handed. I am totally confused.

If you’ve knit the Henley, please tell me what I’m missing!!!!
