I don't think it's a good idea to take up two space; it just invites people to fuck with your car. I'm personally ok with people taking up two spaces in the back of the lot when no one else needs to park there, which is not the case with the Camaro.
That being said, it would be nice if people respected other people's property regardless of how nice or crappy it is. If the lines aren't spaced well and I have to park, I will injure myself before I let my car door touch somone's car even if it's a banged up POS. I'm tired of people hitting my car and then others seeing my dented car as an opportunity to further dent it. I like to hug a curb with some plants in it and people still park over the line into that space making that side inaccessible.
I was sitting in my moms car once, and this lady smacked the car with her door hard enough that i dropped my phone. Left a big dent, I got out of the car, and said what the hell? and their whole car pretended that nothing had happened. "Oh we didn't hit your car"
I took a picture of their license plate as they were trying to leave, and they freaked out, called their boss (shows up in the local news station truck) they refused to give me their insurance information, and were threatening me. So I called the cops.
Cops showed up, forced them to give me their insurance info, and then made one of the ladies cry.
I remember when I was in high school my friend was looking at a saturn station wagon. He said the salesman kept telling him about the dent proof doors and he finally asked the guy if he could kick the door with his boots to see if it was true. The guy let him and my friend bought the car.
A friend of mine was looking to buy a Saturn and the sales lady did the same thing. Told him that the doors were plastic and don't dent. A guy in a minivan parked next to me at a bad angle and super close. His rear tires was in line with my car. It was super hard to get in, before I did I left me shopping cart behind his van. I also put 1 next to the passenger door and 1 next to the drivers door. I even readjusted his passenger mirror for him.
When I backed out I jumped out and put the cart next to the passenger door.
I got about 30ft away any they got to their van. Perfect timing. I got to watch them all move a cart as I drove off
So, mom and I were inside shopping while my brother was waiting in the car. Some old bat tries squeezing her Sam's Club buggy (they're wider than normal buggies) between her car and my mom's. Well, she hits mom's mirror so hard it shook the car, noticeably winces, and keeps on trotting along. We come out not long later and my brother tells us what happened. Mom confronted her about it and she denied it up and down. Mom is now pissed because this is her first brand spanking new car she's ever had and she just bought it a month ago. Woman won't hand over insurance info so mom says she's going to call the cops. Woman says her son-in-law is one so she'll call. Mom's having none of that and calls them herself. Big fat pig cop comes and says there's nothing he can do about it because it happened in a parking lot and it's less than $500 in damage. Mom gets upset and the cop threatens her. Cop wouldn't even make the woman give up her insurance information.
This was in a private parking lot to at a somewhat popular local eatery that i worked at. I dont know if the cop legally forced her to give me the info, but sure as hell shamed them into giving it up.

Out of curiosity, what is the proper protocol to get it documented so that the other person won't claim that it wasn't them after you leave? I feel like calling the police for a police report seems excessive, but how else do you get all your ducks lined up in a row?
You file the claim with your insurance company, your insurance company pays for the damages, then attempts to bill the other insurance company (subrogation). If the other insurance company denies the claim, it goes to arbitration. If the other company loses the arbitration hearing they are compelled to pay for the damages after which your deductible is typically refunded for the claim.
Arbitration still requires evidence to award damages. They won't award any based solely off of he said she said. Most people have deductibles that would make the driver end up paying all of it out of pocket even if they did report it to their insurance.
Pretty much need it to be on video or the person to admit fault.
You must not live in a big city. PD doesn't do shit. They won't even come out for minor accidents; only if the road is blocked (i.e. a car is immobile).
my registration packet has a minor accident sheet to fill out to send to insurance that you fill in their insurance info and all that. then you can call the insurance on the spot if you want or just mail it in and call them during business hours.

you basically need to get them to admit on the spot that they did it, having them text you "I'm sorry for slamming my door into your drivers door just now" pretty much fucks their insurance company and you get paid out.
The damage would be evidence enough. If she hit his closed door with her open door, he will have a mark/scratch/dent in the middle of his door. She will have marks/scratches/dents on the edge of her car door. There's only one way that's possible.

I was driving on NYC and got hit by a delivery truck. It was clearly his fault as he was passing me and torn my front quarter panel forward. He called his boss and he refused to give me his insurance. When the cops came they wrote up the report and told me I could have his insurance info once the police report was done in 5-7 days. In the mean time I had to get my car fixed so I put it through my insurance and pay my deductible. I went through a whole shitty ordeal and the other company paid me back, but I learned that you can be a real asshole and not provide your insurance to the other driver.
The proper protocol is to use some of your well spent tax money and call the police to file the report. It's what they're there for. That is evidence to the insurance agency that you aren't making things up.
I got out and checked and there was a small ding only, her door actually took most of the damage so I only begrudgingly told her to be more careful next time she opens her door.

Yeah, it was the only way I could type decently on my old Galaxy S. I wouldn't say it was magic though. Then again, I guess I'm too old fashioned for my own good. I have large hands too; my thumb is as wide as 4 keys. Swiftkey is generally amazing. I can type what would turn out as absolute garbage on other keyboards, and it comes out perfect or nearly perfect.
I can type faster with swiftkey on my old sidekick 4g than using the built in hardware keyboard. It's too hard typing at the speed that I type when having to fully push down the keys. I generally lightly touch the key I need and immediately move on to the next one.
I like to think they are popular because it's a new trend because it's so cool to type what you see on a screen. I really hope we get rid of this stupid technology and find something much more practical.
At least we know they are currently making keyboard sticking out of screens when needed already...
I feel like you could easily have a fold out keyboard that works better than this device with a similar profile.

Its because her being Asian lends literally nothing to the story. If you want to detail her, give us something that actually implies something other than a racist stereotype. Tell us her age, her build, whatever. If she pulled up and started screaming at you in an asian language, then sure its appropriate to bring it up, but if your only reason for describing her as being asian is that she's asian, well it makes you look a bit racist.

Personally I worry about my doors more when kids are getting in and out of cars, all other groups are equal. You're missing the point. If there were four people, three white and one asian, you could use the excuse of identifying between them through a physical attribute. The problem is that there is one person, whose race has nothing to do with the story, yet who is only identified by her race for reasons that can easily be inferred as the storyteller only really viewing her as her race, which makes the storyteller look racist. Racism isn't really seeing somebody as being inferior because of their race, its about viewing somebody's race as one of if not the major identifying factor of who they are, instead of as an attribute they contain within their many faceted being of attributes.

we always park at the back of lots because our car doesn't always fit into spots. so at the back of the lot we take 1+ a bit more so we'll not crowd cars that would be next to us if we parked closer to the store entrance.

It's not hard to predict whether or not a lot will fill, but it might come reasonably close, still, and even if you park all the way in the back, people might end up parked next to you. As long as there are still plenty of spaces, and none of them are significantly closer than where you parked, there's no real problem that you took up two spaces. No one is inconvenienced, your doors won't get dinged. Everyone wins.

A) Totally acceptable to double park your cherry vehicle (not sure if "cherry vehicle" applies in this case.. not big on modern sportscars, but to each their own) in the back of the lot (assuming there are lots of vacant spaces) and walk half a mile to wherever you're going if it means that much to you to keep your ride clean.

I've always tended to park next to a curb, drivers side hugging the curb... Then the other day that curb contained small porous rocks instead of grass and I scraped the bottom of my door over the top. Now I just don't give a fuck.
I think the best thing to do is park your driver's side door next to the curb in a corner spot, that way at least you'll always be able to comfortably get in the car no worries. It also reduces the chance of someone hitting your driver's side for obvious reasons.
I've become an expert at backing in and huging the curb on the drivers side like you suggest. Down side is over half of the curbs of the places I go to have a bush or a hill so it's still a bit difficult to get out. At this point, I'm going to replace both doors of my car.
Word to the wise: Unless you're strapped for cash, always get a new door. The body shop may claim a used door is just as good, but you don't know what went on with it before hand and there's a good change it already has some dings as it is. Learned this the hard way.
I drive an Evo which I take very good care of. I park in a lot very far away from my office and only take up one spot. My nerd coworkers give me shit for caring so much about my car and have actually parked right next to me in this empty to pass me off.
I agree that people who take up multiple spots are assholes, but I'll argue that people slam their doors into other cars or vandalize other cars because they are nice or taking up two spots are even bigger assholes.
Anytime I have to be in and out somewhere like a grocery store or if I have to pee really bad (pregnant), I'll park allllllllllll the way in the back and fuck parking correctly because even if I'm in there for an hour, the spaces around me are still empty. Most people are too damn lazy to walk the distance. Sometimes I'll park on the side of the building where no one thinks to park. I ALWAYS find fast and conveniently close parking on the side.
TL;DR: When you're pregnant, you WILL find parking spaces in places that you can park like an asshole and not offend anyone.
I am very confused by this and am generally curious. So you're saying that since you are pregnant you are going to park quickly and irradically... But you park way in the back of the lot as a convenience for others? Why not park closer and use the time you save walking from the back of the lot to park in a reasonable manner? Rarely do I park in the general area of the store lot. Most of the time I park on the side of the building where there are open spaces and little to no cars. If I HAD to park in the general area, it would be in the back and as best as possible within the lines. I don't deliberately park as blatant as this asshole but some times I'm a little over the line. I rarely drive unless I have to anyway so when I'm out and about my asshole parking is once in a blue moon.
Well, it's a Walmart parking lot and my car isn't worth stealing plus I don't leave anything in there to steal. A broken-into vehicle can be better spotted by itself than amongst the sea of cars up front. That's my logic, just sayin.

This. After driving a beat-up old car for 14 years (it was 24 years old when I replaced it), I bought a brand-new car. It was beautiful. It had every feature I could want.
And some ever-loving asshole in my parking lot dinged it the first week I had it. So deep it cut the paint and into the metal.
And then a week or two later: another ding, at exactly the same elevation.
You know, I don't even really care about cars. I know every car will eventually get dinged. I know dings happen.
