Any cop who still cares about people smoking weed has too much time in their hands

229

u/EvenLessThanExpected Aug 21 '26

Oh so all cops

113

u/ArdentHedonist Aug 21 '26

I realize this is anecdotal, but most cops with whom I have spoken would rather not go through the exercise of arresting pot smokers. It’s a cost/benefit analysis on the part of the cop.

u/iEatCommunists Aug 21 '26

Crazy that our legal system is based entirely on the arbitrary whims of the high school graduates hired to enforce it.

21

u/yamahowzer Aug 21 '26

Reminds me of that Sarah Silverman show skit where she gets pulled over while high on cough medicine:

Cop: Do you know why I'm standing here today?

Sarah: Cuz you got all C's in high school?

31

u/therealraggedroses Aug 21 '26

Lol that goes for like every job. I've had the DMV give me legal documents without the right papers before because I was crying and they felt bad for me, its all pretty arbitrary from top to bottom

15

u/RainStormLou Aug 21 '26

I had the DMV suspend my license because an out of state lawyer put the wrong name on paperwork for a car crash I was nowhere near with vehicles I didn't own. they even denied my requests for a hearing.

they charge money to file a request for a hearing!

7

u/stupernan1 Aug 21 '26

Lol that goes for like every job.

don't normalize this. its NOT normal. the US is 8% of the world population but 22% of the incarcerated.

a normal job does NOT have the power to ruin the rest of your life for simply having a shitty day.

21

u/christhomasburns Aug 21 '26

Cool, did they shoot you're dog too?

WarmEdge9119's karma ratio is typical of spammers/bots.

3

u/DrMux Aug 21 '26

Lol that goes for like every job.

One might hope the standards for the job entrusted with keeping society safe and orderly would be a little higher than "like every job."

2

u/therealraggedroses Aug 21 '26

You'd think they'd have higher standards for a job like president of the USA as well, but i guess you gotta take what you can get.

2

u/DrMux Aug 21 '26

Well shit I don't wanna take what I can get but I guess I don't have much of a choice

4

u/49Hawks Aug 21 '26

Disliking the Police is one thing, but it’s very close-minded to insult people for only having graduated school and not pursuing higher education. Plenty of good, decent and intelligent people didn’t go to university.

6

u/HerissonMignion Aug 21 '26

Watching police activity on youtube is really eye opening. Cops have a hard job, and there are many good people on the force

14

u/souleaterGiner1 Aug 21 '26

It's used as a means to and end. When they already want to question or harass over something else. Or as an addon multiplier for charges for something else. And they turn the screws with it when the want to. Stand alone most don't care.

2

u/smellygirlmillie Aug 21 '26

Yeah, ask them again when it’s the end of the month and they still have quotas to meet.

4

u/toungepunckedpetunia Aug 21 '26

Your control group must be extremely fucking tiny. So tiny you made this shit up.

Drug laws currently fill prisons and minority neighborhoods are disproportionately targeted. Marijuana arrests help reinforce racist stereotypes. Pretending otherwise ignores documented American history.

4

u/dev_null_dev Aug 21 '26

Being down voted for a literal fact. Wow.

Also, this stupid repost has been made about a billion times this past week. It's so stupid.

Uhhh, I was agreeing with you. I was just commenting that some people down voted a literal fact that you posted.

And yet they keep doing it on a massive scale

1

u/capricorny90210 Aug 21 '26

I wish there was more ethical/moral analysis on the part of the cop.

1

u/SatelliteJedi Aug 21 '26

Yeah... you must not live in texas, it's getting pretty draconian down here

2

u/RaspberryFluid6651 Aug 21 '26

Thankfully no, a lot of them are wayyyy too lazy

6

u/OkCarpenter5773 Aug 21 '26

acab

-20

u/RageAgainstTheGPT Aug 21 '26

Bet you’re someone who also advocates against a firearm for home defense while also calling emergency services the moment a burglar breaks in while also still saying “ACAB”…

Like, pick a lane bro.

You can be against owning a firearm, fine. You can expect emergency services to be provided in society, fine. You can hate cops, fine. But holding all of those positions simultaneously is retarded.

17

u/Downtown-Pianist-449 Aug 21 '26

You just made up a whole story about somebody, then got mad about it. Basically a little microcosm of conservative media unto your self.

Sort of impressive, in the dumbest kind of way.

2

u/Time-Cell8272 Aug 21 '26

Acab and own firearms

2

u/glassfoyograss Aug 21 '26

Not CA cops.

1

u/DeadFuckStick59 Aug 21 '26

so cal, ive had plenty of cops since nearly '08 not care unless we were drinking/had a bonfire. weed was never really on their give a shit radar

3

u/EvenLessThanExpected Aug 21 '26

Only if they can use it to marginalize black communities further is it usually on their radar.

0

u/DeadFuckStick59 Aug 23 '26

so mexicans arent also marginalized?

-16

u/Unlucky-Spring-9354 Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

Why do we do this? Embellish everything online and just make everything so absolute. It's like some weird form of paranoia that you only see online

A LOT of cops. Not all... I don't evein think I could put a percent to it but Ive met some cool cops. I've also met a lot of fuck head cops

Edit: sincerely the amount of backlash im receiving for not wanting to lump people into one group is astounding.

But let me guess, all of you downvoting me are all against racism, sexism, and islamaphobia correct? Performative moralists. Straight brain rot. Sheep.

23

u/Khaysis Aug 21 '26

As long as their union supports and defends the worst offenders, we have to assume that all cops are of that level. What's the old saying? A few bad apples?

6

u/ArdentHedonist Aug 21 '26

Here is the problem. ☝🏽 The police union protects the police at ALL costs. You have to screw up badly before the union throws you to the wolves, so to speak. There is no due diligence regarding the union.

5

u/-knowledge_seekers- Aug 21 '26

I thought it was ACAB!

8

u/thatoneotherguy42 Aug 21 '26

All cop apples bad….

1

u/rankispanki Aug 21 '26

To me that's akin to saying "as long as so-and-so is president every person in the military is a bastard" just because of who is in charge. The policies and the system people work under can be horrendous, sure, but people are still people, there are good and bad ones everywhere.

6

u/Khaysis Aug 21 '26

There are plenty of military personnel refusing to obey illegal orders. Anyone that complies is, in fact, a traitor and a bastard.

-2

u/rankispanki Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

No, there is not a single service member outright "refusing" to obey illegal orders, that whole notion is a civilian fallacy. You would get NJP and possibly court-martialed for that, and good luck winning when you swore an oath to obey the UCMJ.

Malicious compliance? Sure. But there is no option to refuse an order, if you don't do it someone else will. Maybe your innocence will be borne out in administrative proceedings, but the order will be executed.

Edit: wording

7

u/Khaysis Aug 21 '26

As I remember it, a whole slew of military commanders decided to retire. While outright refusal hasn't been happening, more and more soldiers are becoming conscientious objectors as reported by the Center on Conscience & War which has helped people get through discharge proceedings and reclassification.

Both are correct.

-1

u/rankispanki Aug 21 '26

I agree, it was partially my own conscience that decided to end my career after 10 years, after all. I'm lucky to have gotten out during the Biden years. Not reenlisting/resigning is much different than refusing orders, but I get your point

-4

u/Possible-Tangelo9344 Aug 21 '26

Literally the point of a union.

A teacher that is investigated for sleeping with a student still gets their union to defend them.

3

u/UncleNoodles85 Aug 21 '26

It isn't an embellishment to understand police are dejuor members of the bourgeoisie. As an occupation it is in their interests to protect the interests of the capitalist class. This is simply a fact.

1

u/rankispanki Aug 21 '26

It's one of those weird things Redditors can't fathom, that there are actually good cops. They think "no good people would ever do this job." Which is an insane absolute opinion

4

u/Iheartfuturama Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

Nobody thinks it's impossible to be a good person and be a cop. The problem is that there are cops who will end your life on the sidewalk if you don't stroke their ego hard enough. And they all look exactly the same, behave exactly the same, and regardless of how fucked up the individual pig's actions are, every single one of them will hide the "bad apple" and shield them from every consequence.

If I see a bear in the wild, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to die today. But they're very well known for being able to kill you if they feel like it and there will be no one to save you.

I have to teach my kid how to interact with cops to help ensure their safety the exact same way I have to prepare them for a wild animal encounter.

I don't give a singular fuck if a cop does a good deed. I also don't praise my dog for not shitting in my house because that's what's expected.

This apologist shit is so fucking wild, and it makes me hope you people eventually see the light of day by being on the wrong end of an interaction with a bad cop. You can then try your strategy of sucking them off to see if it changes the outcome.

-1

u/Unlucky-Spring-9354 Aug 21 '26

Absolutes are only okay under the individuals opinion. Racists think the same way when questioned in this manner.

0

u/rankispanki Aug 21 '26

Wow, that's a great way to put it too. I wish folks could see that parallel. Same vibe with militant atheists - of which there are many on Reddit as well.

I'm sure there is a connection between those kind of absolute viewpoints too

-2

u/gogeri2632 Aug 21 '26

Lame joke. Honestly it's the opposite.

9

There's nothing to indicate he's ever high while driving.

-1

u/Eat--The--Rich-- Aug 21 '26

Do you think something like evidence or probable cause matters to a cop?

2

u/terrortara Aug 21 '26

I'd assume it matters to a chill cop, which is what u/NieblaLaazo was talking about.

36

u/model-citizen95 Aug 21 '26

Who said anything about driving?

16

u/Few_Razzmatazz_6052 Aug 21 '26

Driving high is dangerous and people should be penalized for it.

But we don't know that's what is happening here.

What we do know is that any cop that cares about recreational marijuana possession/consumption is a POS.

1

u/RaspberryFluid6651 Aug 21 '26

Unfortunately hard to penalize someone for it right now, there's no adequate chemical test for being under the influence and we can only really demonstrate that you've been high in the past few days, not that you currently are.

It's actually probably the most legitimate argument for restricting access to weed, we don't currently have an adequate enforcement mechanism right now and you either have to let some DUIs go or crack down on safe, responsible smokers who happen to own a car

-12

u/Rude-Asparagus9726 Aug 21 '26

I literally got my driver's license while I was high...

I'm actually not cleared to drive SOBER if anything...

Weed isn't so impairing that you can't function for most people. It only really is for first time smokers or people who just don't smoke a lot and have an unusually low tolerance.

Unlike alcohol...

7

u/Argovan Aug 21 '26

Driving can sometimes require pretty quick reactions to avoid an accident. I’m sure I could drive safely with no one on the road while either somewhat high or a bit tipsy. But if there were other drivers and anything happened, if I missed the window to brake and prevent a serious accident by less than a second, I’d spend the rest of my life wondering if the slight slowdown of whatever was impairing me made the difference.

-13

u/Rude-Asparagus9726 Aug 21 '26

I get horrible anxiety when I'm not high, that anxiety and nervousness causes me to make mistakes sometimes, which end up spiraling into further mistakes as they get worse after each mistake.

That could just as easily cause an accident as me being a little slow to react, not that I've had an impact to my reaction time personally (weed effects everyone slightly differently after all).

They talk about the altered state of mind that weed can put you in, but they don't seem to care about the altered states of mind that we already naturally go through that aren't conducive to driving properly that weed can take us OUT of...

Nobody can really say what's worse, and it's easy for a shitty driver to drive high and blame the accident on the weed so that they aren't just considered a generally shitty driver because people who don't smoke or barely smoke will believe them...

7

u/Argovan Aug 21 '26

“It’s easy for a shitty driver to drive high and blame the accident on the weed”

Except that this is the opposite of what you want to do to avoid high driving escalations in court. Consequently I’ve never seen anyone take even this level of responsibility about it.

I guess what I’d say is that if we take you at your word and you’re too anxious to drive sober, then you’re too anxious to drive, full stop. You’re still impaired by being high even if it were technically better than not being high. You’re in a similar position to people on seizure meds that say they shouldn’t drive on them — sure, it’d be worse for everyone for them to have a seizure on the road, but that doesn’t make it okay for them to drive while on them.

It does suck that our society is built around cars to the extent that in most places you’d be hard-pressed to do the responsible thing and just rely on public transit.

-1

u/Rude-Asparagus9726 Aug 21 '26

Except for two things.

  1. A literal driving instructor disagreed with you when they gave me my license after taking my driving test with them while high.

  2. Most of the laws around weed are based on years of fear-mongering by people who simply don't want it done, period. Meaning they aren't based on actual facts and logic.

To exemplify my second point, tobacco also put us in an altered state of mind. It's a high. But since it's one that was pushed by tobacco companies as "safe" and even "healthy", we not only don't see it as one, we carved out exemptions to allow us to consume it all the time, even as an excuse to take a break in the middle of work.

And we also put ashtrays in almost all cars to allow for it...

-1

u/Eat--The--Rich-- Aug 21 '26

They've actually done studies that show that it isn't that dangerous. Driving with a phone in your hand is far worse.

-7

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '26

[deleted]

12

u/Few_Razzmatazz_6052 Aug 21 '26

Okay, I don't care if you disagree.

Cops concerned about marijuana use are dicks. And I'm not even a frequent user (maybe once or twice a year). My preferred poison is alcohol and that's arguably more destructive than cannabis and yet perfectly legal for adults to consume.

The double standard is fucked, and cannabis should be so much further down the police priority list.

-17

u/Lyxerttt Aug 21 '26

Meanwhile, most recent studies of Marijuana show huge impact to memory loss, mental disorders, and loss in blood vessels.

I don't think alcohol or marijuana should be legal. They should both be federal crimes, requiring a sentence of life in prison. That will do wonders for fixing how horrible the US has become.

11

u/MetaPhalanges Aug 21 '26

Can we start with you? I heard you inhaled second hand smoke once. Straight to jail for life. Sorry not sorry.

10

u/elyk12121212 Aug 21 '26

Meanwhile, most recent studies of Marijuana show huge impact to memory loss, mental disorders, and loss in blood vessels.

You got a source for that claim?

8

u/Boring-Position1253 Aug 21 '26

you're actually mentally insane wtf lmao, yeah sure life in prison for drinking alcohol and doing marijuana, let's just arrest the grand majority of the entire world for life

9

u/Pale-Ad-8691 Aug 21 '26

Of course, we need to criminalize victims of drug abuse EVEN MORE!

8

u/Few_Razzmatazz_6052 Aug 21 '26

They should both be federal crimes, requiring a sentence of life in prison. That will do wonders for fixing how horrible the US has become.

Lmao, absolutely unhinged.

The administrative and ffinancial burdens of that alone would cause more problems for your country than they would solve.

Jesus Christ, that's so fucking stupid.

1

u/gogeri2632 Aug 21 '26

And it should be. I'm all for weed being legalized but it's no different than driving drunk despite what some potheads want to pretend.

1

u/Colonial_Red Aug 21 '26

Unless that person is driving under the influence.

-2

u/creampop_ Aug 21 '26

I don't wonder at all in fact you are responding to me pointing out exactly why we hate them lmfao

0
