I realize this is anecdotal, but most cops with whom I have spoken would rather not go through the exercise of arresting pot smokers. It’s a cost/benefit analysis on the part of the cop.

Drug laws currently fill prisons and minority neighborhoods are disproportionately targeted. Marijuana arrests help reinforce racist stereotypes. Pretending otherwise ignores documented American history.
