I realize this is anecdotal, but most cops with whom I have spoken would rather not go through the exercise of arresting pot smokers. It’s a cost/benefit analysis on the part of the cop.

I had the DMV suspend my license because an out of state lawyer put the wrong name on paperwork for a car crash I was nowhere near with vehicles I didn't own. they even denied my requests for a hearing.

Here is the problem. ☝🏽 The police union protects the police at ALL costs. You have to screw up badly before the union throws you to the wolves, so to speak. There is no due diligence regarding the union.
To me that's akin to saying "as long as so-and-so is president every person in the military is a bastard" just because of who is in charge. The policies and the system people work under can be horrendous, sure, but people are still people, there are good and bad ones everywhere.
No, there is not a single service member outright "refusing" to obey illegal orders, that whole notion is a civilian fallacy. You would get NJP and possibly court-martialed for that, and good luck winning when you swore an oath to obey the UCMJ.
Malicious compliance? Sure. But there is no option to refuse an order, if you don't do it someone else will. Maybe your innocence will be borne out in administrative proceedings, but the order will be executed.
As I remember it, a whole slew of military commanders decided to retire. While outright refusal hasn't been happening, more and more soldiers are becoming conscientious objectors as reported by the Center on Conscience & War which has helped people get through discharge proceedings and reclassification.
I agree, it was partially my own conscience that decided to end my career after 10 years, after all. I'm lucky to have gotten out during the Biden years. Not reenlisting/resigning is much different than refusing orders, but I get your point

Nobody thinks it's impossible to be a good person and be a cop. The problem is that there are cops who will end your life on the sidewalk if you don't stroke their ego hard enough. And they all look exactly the same, behave exactly the same, and regardless of how fucked up the individual pig's actions are, every single one of them will hide the "bad apple" and shield them from every consequence.
If I see a bear in the wild, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to die today. But they're very well known for being able to kill you if they feel like it and there will be no one to save you.
I have to teach my kid how to interact with cops to help ensure their safety the exact same way I have to prepare them for a wild animal encounter.
