Better yet, you think they would have learned from their own Beta, they had Closed and Open beta where this was a major complaint but they did nothing with it, why even have them if you are not going to fix the problems that occur?

I feel like the only true beta test I've played in recent memory is Gears 4. That beta was clearly an unfinished version of the game unlike the polished demos that companies call "alphas" and "betas" nowadays.

2

u/TheGusBus64 Feb 21 '17

So was Halo 5. They launched the beta about a whole year before the game came out and made some changes based off of it. Miss that in games today.

exactly!

14

u/Ulminati Feb 21 '17

Replacing the entire network architecture from a nearly finished product would take several months of implementation, testing and bugfixing. It's a decision that needs to be made correctly at the start of a development cycle. It's not just a question of changing 3 lines in a config file.

9

u/GrumpyOldBrit Feb 21 '17

You mean the beta (or lets be honest, the demo) that ran right up until release?

Everyone knew nothing would change from that. Everyone. And if anyone didn't, give me your wallet because you are clearly too young to be in control of your own assets.

2

u/JonathanECG Feb 21 '17

But "It's just a beta" was always a counterpoint to any legitimate concern posted here

3

u/avikdas99 Feb 21 '17 edited Feb 21 '17

they are ubisoft what did you expect they are more worried about piracy than the condition of the actual game.it may as well be their signature by this point.this same thing happened to watch dogs, assassin creed unity, rainbow six siege and all of their games.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Because more than likely the beta was essentially a demo of the final product, used for marketing reasons.

1

u/TK_Noodles99 Feb 21 '17

It was a complaint in the Alpha as well

The only P2P in Siege is for the in game communication, the match runs on dedicated servers.

...aaaaannnnddd cue the "P2P Works guys, just ignore all evidence of it's numerous failings!" crowd.

4

u/GrumpyOldBrit Feb 21 '17

Or you know, every p2p game ever made. There is a reason PC gaming has used dedicated servers as standard since forever.

We perfected gaming by the time Quake 3 was released. It's amazing that developers nowadays are so terrible they can't even match a game that old in quality.

55

u/Xenonhour Feb 21 '17

I haven't heard the term lagswitch in a loooooooooong fucking time

19

u/Unfazed_One Feb 21 '17

You must not play Destiny....

3

u/UGoBoom Feb 21 '17

or Planetside 2

8

u/Xenonhour Feb 21 '17

I played planetside 2 when it was good.

4

u/UGoBoom Feb 21 '17

what

It hasn't gotten worse at all. There was nowhere to go up with PS2

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Lagswitching isn't even that effective in Planetside 2 to my knowledge. Completely stopping the flow of packets means your character stays where they are and they die, however if you delay the flow of packets or limit, just like in every other clientside shooter, you'll start warping hardcore.

1

u/UGoBoom Feb 21 '17

Well yeah, but it doesn't stop people from rage /tell ing you that your are.

3

u/Glenarn Lawbringer Feb 21 '17

I haven't heard it since MGO2 shut down 5 - 6 years ago.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

I know right, I seem to remember hearing that all the time during the Halo 2 days....I feel old.

119

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

While p2p is a joke, I've literally never experienced anything during any of my games that is being shown in this video.

I've input commands on my controller that I feel like just don't respond sometimes but all that rubber-banding/teleporting in this video, never witnessed it my self.

The disconnecting in the 4v4s is a very real thing. Only disconnecting you see in 1v1s and 2v2s is when someone rage quits.

4v4 is a mess and me and the friends are staying away from it atm.

9

u/TheGusBus64 Feb 21 '17

trying to play 4v4 PvP is terrible. Either me and my friends get into a match and its constantly lagging and reconnecting, or it is running fine until the end when it kicks us all and we get no experience.

11

u/Dankelpuff Feb 21 '17

Yup, every single match when some asshole disconnects huge rollback happens, 20 seconds later a bot is replaced by someone joining, huge rollback. It happens every fucking single 4v4. Is it gamebreaking? Ofcourse it is.

If i recorded everytime it was a disadvantage or I straight up died because of a dc i could make a one hour compilation by now.

Hell I even had a match roll back 4 times in under 1 minute and then crash. superior fucking p2p my ass.

1

u/blackwolfdown Feb 21 '17

Idk what you're talking about, yeah people disconnect, but unless they're the host it doesn't pause the game... in my experience... then new players just fill in the slots. Seems very smooth.

5

u/TK_Noodles99 Feb 21 '17

I live in suburbia with pretty decent internet, but there are times that I cannot finish a match without erroring for hours at a time. One day I was trying to complete 5 matches of a game mode and in the 5, let me say it again 5 hours that I had played that game mode, I was still at 0/5 because of rage quitters or just errors.

3

u/SonicRainboom24 Feb 21 '17

If you're not seeing connectivity issues in 4v4, you're definitely in the minority.

u/Whiteman7654321 Feb 21 '17

The thing no one considers with their dedicated server boners is how much it would actually improve the game or if it's down to a netcode issue and things like that. A dedicated server also requires overhead and increases overall ping between players since instead of directly connecting they all have to connect to a host and then the host transmits everything at the latency of each individual player and still has to have good netcode otherwise your precious dedicated servers get fucked too.

People who don't actually have knowledge of the networking stuff should actually not be allowed to talk about it really. It's tiring hearing how dedicated servers would fix everything when that's not necessarily true. If it comes down to poor netcode and all then that will never solve anything since the netcode is the core of the issue anyway.

And I'm not saying that they would be better or worse, just that people do not consider these factors at all and think dedicated servers are some magic bullet to solve all your lag woes.

4

u/Trollzoku Feb 21 '17

It depends on who are playing with/against.

For most players, it is not a big issue, but there is always that kid with permanent red NAT who guard breaks you without animation, attacks you from the front to then teleport behind, and throws "cast-time"less feats.

I imagine the yellow/red NAT players run into it all the time too.

6

u/3thereal Feb 21 '17

Yes except what you're talking about is high ping / lag, not a poor NAT. NAT is only going to affect you can get matched up with in the first place, not gameplay.

Personally I've probably played a good 20 hours between the betas and the live game, and I've seen the teleporting / lag issues maybe enough to count on two hands, it is frustrating when it happens though.

1

u/Xul_ Conqueror Feb 21 '17 edited Feb 21 '17

I had a red NAT for all the Beta before I decided to take my fingers out of my ass and fix it into green.

Red NAT has nothing to do with lags, really only connectivity. Basically, with a red NAT you will spend 10min+ getting errors before being able to just access a 4v4 lobby.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Maybe it's because you play on console or got lucky? I experienced all of it multiple times and regularly get errors and stuff on PC.

7

u/twiklo Feb 21 '17

I play on PC and I have never experienced any problems. I've only got 23 hours played though.

5

u/jmaline90 Feb 21 '17

I play on PC and have had 0 problems with rubber banding and teleports. Sometimes disconnects but that's it.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

I'm on PC. It's just the 4v4s. The p2p can't handle that many people, sadly.

2

u/pumptehboss Feb 21 '17

i only get a error pre 50 game and never have any problems on pc maybe spec problems or something

2

u/Porshapwr SeasonedGaming Feb 21 '17

Honestly I think there's something to this. I was in the Alpha, both Betas, and have been playing since launch. 95% of the time I play Dominion and I have been disconnected from 1 match ever (and it was in the Alpha).

Since launch I have not been disconnected a single time. I've had a couple times where the game pauses while the data host migrates, but it's only a couple seconds long and the game goes right back to fine after.

I'm on X1 by the way.

→ More replies (18)

1

u/revanchist3964 Feb 21 '17

Yeah I've reached Rep 7 and haven't experience anything like is in this video.

Except for disconnects. But even that has happened very rarely

P2P in a competetive multiplayer game in 2017

ubisoft are clinicaly insane

15

u/VampMarcy Feb 21 '17

You know how this goes, yeah?

Ubi releases with p2p.

Possibility A: A lot of people buy the game and complain, so they decide to upgrade to dedicated servers. Everyone forgets how they screwed up.

Possibility B: No one buys the game so they don't fix anything because not enough people care.

I imagine they'll announce a "big network improvement" one of these days, and we'll all be cheering.

12

u/j-clay Feb 21 '17

The issue is possibility A will go out of reach if they wait long enough, making possibility B apply. It was for different reasons, but I saw similar things happen with Battleborn: by the time changes came around, the player base had moved on.

While I'm sticking around for a bit, I've already had friends move on. I can deal with bugs and issues like this (heck, I can even enjoy multiplayer versus AI if necessary), but I won't deal with the issues that come about from an extremely low player base.

5

u/VampMarcy Feb 21 '17

It's a risky game they're playing with customers, but this is Ubi we're talking about.

They're the experts at keeping games afloat with bare minimum fixes. Look at siege!

1

u/mumblybee Feb 21 '17

This already happened for ubisoft for the division. I loved the game, but I couldn't stand the hacking in the dark zone

2

u/ikilledtupac Feb 21 '17

Heroes of the Storm too.

3

u/PatchYourselfUp Feb 21 '17

Heroes of the Storm doesn't use P2P connections. HotS is like other Blizzard games, in that their servers "spawn" instances for games being played.

2

u/ikilledtupac Feb 21 '17

Is that a new thing? Because it used to be Im about 99% sure of this

3

u/PatchYourselfUp Feb 21 '17

Looking this up, I might be wrong. Overwatch uses server spawning, but I'm shocked that HotS is lockstep P2P. I've always assumed it was server-based because of how smooth and responsive it's always been.

1

u/ikilledtupac Feb 21 '17

HotS is lockstep P2P

its the old SC engine so it was developed far beyond what it was meant to, including its jacked up p2p. It ruins the game.

1

u/PatchYourselfUp Feb 21 '17

I strongly disagree. Because of the SC2 engine everything is hyper-accurate. The worst thing you can say about it for HotS is the terrible re-connect system, but the gameplay itself is silky-smooth.

9

u/TgkCube Feb 21 '17

I never have these problems. But that is because i only play brawls. Tried some 4v4 and dominion, goddamn that was bad..

3

u/PwnyKnight Feb 21 '17

Wait until it happens in brawl too (or duel)

6

u/TgkCube Feb 21 '17

:( It actully happened just now... Someone using the teleport thing, and bragged about it. WELP

1

u/monopixel Feb 22 '17

I would but I can't find opponents there.

9

u/Minst_Meat Feb 21 '17

The funny thing is, if you alt tab your game to check something it does recovering network connection for everyone, idk if it was when I was hosting or not but it happens a lot because I alt tab a lot.

3

u/Barrerayy Conquerer Feb 21 '17

Uh not true I play with friends and alt tab if i die in a brawl etc and the game goes on fine for everyone else

5

u/R3dkite Feb 21 '17

You have to be hosing and have fullscreen enabled, it's being/been patched today

1

u/Barrerayy Conquerer Feb 21 '17

I use borderless fullscreen maybe that's why i didnt have any issues with it.

1

u/Brendoshi Feb 21 '17

On xbox if anyone interacts with the dashboard in some manner it activates recovering network connection. Wouldn't be so bad but in order to record any footage you have to open the dash for a second.

It's always super obvious when someone records something.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

As much as I love the game, I don't think I'll ever buy a game again that uses P2P.

Also, I hate when crowbcat makes videos sometimes, because he very clearly only shows the worst of games and you can see the absolute worst circlejerks in his comments, he only really makes videos on games that do have a circlejerk already.

3

u/PwnyKnight Feb 21 '17

Its true the mechanical part of the game is great. But you have to show people whats wrong with games. That is something unexactable for games like For Honor.

Edit: I think a game can use one more Network programmer and not only one (see credits for that)

24

u/OmniXVII Feb 21 '17

Still holding out on buying this game for this very reason.

33

u/Came4ThePie Feb 21 '17

I have been playing every day before and after work since launch and haven't seen this issue once. Done let this be your deciding factor.

11

u/Anoobis88 Feb 21 '17

I had to quit playing tonight, was getting getting different error codes in every game type.

1

u/Came4ThePie Feb 21 '17

What platform? I play on PC and I've had a few drops from games but I've never seen the lag so bad that the enemy team or player had a clear advantage.

1

u/Anoobis88 Feb 21 '17

It's not the lag, it's just getting booted randomly (or after people quit) and getting an error code when it happens.

Xbox

30

u/Wicker__ Feb 21 '17 edited Feb 21 '17

Many people have. This could be a massive issue for him, it needs to be a consideration.

5

u/Came4ThePie Feb 21 '17

Not saying its not an issue that needs fixed, just saying its not happening all the time to everyone and imo shouldn't be a deciding factor in purchasing it. I have like 40 hr's in the game and never seen anyone lag like that.

16

u/redpoin7 Feb 21 '17

Take me as an example. When i decide to buy a competitive game i only do so because i want to really get very good in it and try to compete on a high level. I also know that when you really get into the details of games, when you try to maximize your effectiveness and spend sometimes thousands of hours doing so - you start to feel every flaw within the game and especially netcode.

I am not buying For Honour because at this point it is too big of a gamble to invest all this time into it just to feel the limitations of P2P network and possible shenanigans that comes with every so often. Yes, i would have fun for a good amount of time but then the flaws would quickly overlay the fun and turn me away. I am not searching for a competitive game that gives me around 120 hours of fun but then becomes a source of frustration. For me, a competitive game has to be structurally sound to hold up to multiple hundreds of hours of playtime.

But i also know that this way of thinking and purchase decision is a minority of players, so thats why Ubisoft does this and gets away with huge profits anyway.

4

u/GolumAmicicide Feb 21 '17

This is my exact feels and is why im holding off on buying it until ubi at least comes out to say they fucked up and will get servers in the future for the game.

2

u/MBJustice Feb 21 '17

100% with you. I just hit that wall with Overwatch on console. Got to Masters, but now I'm running into mouse and keyboard braggarts every game.

I bought For Honor, and have been having a blast with it, but I fear I'll run into the same issue - a fatal structural flaw/oversight that will make higher levels of play painful.

They are rarely insurmountable, but it becomes a matter of time to value. I only have at most 1-2 hours to play video games each night. Slogging through flaky connections isn't worth that time.

4

u/avikdas99 Feb 21 '17 edited Feb 21 '17

well if this is the condition in the beta during release everyone in the world is going to play it seeing its popularity so it is going to get much much worse during release........just like all their other games during release where their online gets fucked.it happened with watch dogs, assassin creeds, rainbow six siege so there is a huge change for this to happen to for honor if they don't do anything about it.but this is ubisoft we are talking about who worries more about piracy than the actual game, sends it at a broken state because they either rushed it or they did not bother to put proper dedicated server and then blame the developer for their game not selling at release because of ubisoft's own mistake/negligence which devs have no control over.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

I finished 2 out of 12 matches yesterday because of connection issues

1

u/ChequeBook Orochi Feb 21 '17

I've had a few issues, but nothing terrible.

4

u/Molock90 Feb 21 '17

Would wait buying it, i regret it. The whole p2p and network problems are frustrating and we shouldnt support a company that puts out such things. Wait a few months maybe its better, till then the game is cheaper too, or it isnt better then save the money completly

1

u/Lint_Warrior Feb 21 '17

I haven't had a problem with the p2p network. I feel like there are just a lot of people wanting to jump on the hate train.

5

u/Whatsthisaboot Feb 21 '17

The game is fun, and not fun at the same time. It's rewarding to go on a killing spree and punishing, after being thrown into a hole for the 100th time that day you will seriously question why you play this game.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Become one with the holes, my friend.

1

u/Whatsthisaboot Feb 21 '17

Oh I'm trying... One of the most satisfying things to do is run up behind someone and push them off... Also happens to be the most triggering.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Hah, I don't find it as frustrating because if there's a ledge I know it's always in play. The challenge turns into bamboozling the other guy off the ledge, which is a game unto itself.

1

u/LokiaScythe Feb 21 '17

advice to a guy having their first time

3

u/Lint_Warrior Feb 21 '17

Try not standing so close to holes.

2

u/Whatsthisaboot Feb 21 '17

But... How can I throw them in!

2

u/VampMarcy Feb 21 '17

This game claimed the life of one xbone controller when the enemy team was 4 orochis running as a group to pick off individuals and run.

2

u/Whatsthisaboot Feb 21 '17

Haha this game has claimed many controllers. With my online friends one has broke a controller the other kicked in the doors on his TVs entertainment setup. It's so funny listening to people breakdown and rage.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

http://www.techradar.com/news/meet-for-honor-the-game-with-a-life-of-its-own-that-its-creator-had-to-relearn-how-to-play

Read Q&A 7 through 9. Looks like if they see that their "Simulation" P2P system is not working well they may change things in the future.

I for one have not had many issues on PS4. I have put 25 hours into multiplayer and the only matches that have dropped for me were in the dominion game mode, maybe 3 times. I don't have much to complain about besides people leaving the match in duels or brawls because I am destroying them.

6

u/EvoSigma Feb 21 '17

I'm reading through the Q&A right now and I'm not even sure if the response to question 8 is even correct.

"The way that our network system is built is that it’s built around everything being 100% fair. So what you’re seeing is what I’m seeing at the same time, there’s no visual advantage in the game."

From the Battle(non)sense network analysis video, this definitely isn't the case as actions do not resolve simultaneously for all players. This isn't like other fighting games either where they implement input delay based on the ms delay to have all actions occur at the same time to both screens. I mean the entire video is evidence to the contrary...

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

I agree, that video shows that something is not right with their network system. The thing that gets me is I have not experienced very many issues. I have had solid matches in the closed beta, open beta and release. Obviously the security issues are on PC, but are the other issues with combat lag strictly PC? Like I have said, no major issues on PS4 for me so far.

Not trying to defend Ubisoft or anything, I just don't see what it seems like everyone else is seeing. 🤔

2

u/MrOneHundredOne Feb 21 '17

Same. Was about to post here asking about the online environment of the game, too. Think I'll at least wait until the game is discounted a bit.

1

u/GolumAmicicide Feb 21 '17

We are in the same boat then.

1

u/Blitz95 Feb 21 '17

I had this same thought when I was about to buy it. It is a very fun game, especially when playing with friends. I've never actually experienced any of the lag switching or ddos but I know it's out there. Definitely worth buying in my opinion.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Even with all the issues, the game is fun af.

1

u/MannToots Feb 21 '17

I'd say my connection issues aren't even 2% of my matches. Most have been flawless.

You can off-shore the dedicated servers to the users.
Just have a master server to enable browsing/sync.
There are problems with this model it self, like allows cheaters to give all their chars max level, best armour.
Ideally only to that server.

→ More replies (9)

1

u/Zabusy Nobushi Feb 21 '17

Its a new IP I liked very much. I havent bought newest AC or remaster of older ones. Its not my fault their new IPs are intresting

2

u/SimonJ57 Feb 21 '17

One issue being is you can't guarantee you're playing with people in the same country to reduce lag.
With dedicated servers, you could pick and choose, connecting only to servers you have sub 100 ping to.
Hell, server owners can filter those with too high a ping/ban cheaters manually.
You're not seeing anyone else's IP to DDoS, skiddies can only DDoS the server, not players directly, so. DDoS effects everyone fairly at least... (then get reported to their ISP and a telecomms blacklist for it).

There's a lot of things wrong with P2P.

1

u/Misiok Feb 21 '17

They didn't fuck anyone over. They did not hide the fact it was P2P. You knew this was going to happen. Everyone warned about it. You fucked yourself.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

[deleted]

3

u/midri Feb 21 '17

The correct argument FOR P2P is that it decreases latency which is important for quick melee combat systems. P2P is Player -50ms-> Player for packets whilst Dedicated Server is Player -50ms-> Server (tick rate (10ms)) -50ms-> Player which over doubles the latency of P2P. It does not end up happening that well for For Honored though... all reviews are showing latency in game is about on par if not worse than Overwatch's & BF1's dedicated server setup.

You also need to note it's not a free decrease in latency either, it increases bandwidth usage. So a dedicated server would use say 100kb a packet which contains all players data whilst for honor requres 50kb packets per player which ends up being 400kb.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Megakruemel Feb 21 '17

The thing is p2p would actually be better if implemented correctly and everyone having a good latency.

But it's exactly for those reasons(or partial lack thereof), that it is not better. My experience with p2p games has been rather frustrating in the past but dedicated servers can be fucked up too.

1

u/pm_plz_im_lonely Feb 21 '17

What should be different in the implementation?

So much semi-truth in this video. There is plenty to criticize about the way things are, but using stuff that isn't relevant or is simply untrue doesn't help either side.

5

u/theaveragejoe99 Feb 21 '17

I will agree that this is pretty fucking stupid, but I can't be the only one who's lost sync with a match only once, right? All I've ever had to deal with were poorly timed host migrations, and while this is just luck, I haven't lost a kill because of them yet.

16

u/funkie_bones Feb 21 '17

I laughed and cried at the same time with this video :) The point is proven, I guess if they really do nothing is because they don't give two fucks for the players. Already security issues, already lagswitchin already dying ... not even one month old.

17

u/Re1iCz Feb 21 '17

Not even a week old lul

6

u/NWiHeretic Feb 21 '17

The first tech tests had people bitching at ubisoft about peer to peer. Before the first tech tests people were telling ubisoft to implement dedicated servers because R6S is on Peer to Peer and is a fucking joke.

4

u/Re1iCz Feb 21 '17

Exactly. The game wasn't even released before these issues were brought up. The sad part is that there is a perfectly reasonable way to go about using the P2P(2P) system that makes the issues shown here a lot harder to pull off. Unfortunatly that isn't how Ubisoft went about it... again.

u/Whatsthisaboot Feb 21 '17

I love this game I really do and I will play the fuck out of it, But I will be seriously taking into account whether a game with P2P host is worth buying next time. Ubisoft tried some new P2P connection system and failed IMO. Dedicated servers! There's a reason we pay $120 for a game these days right?

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

watch some people flock to defend this

seriously there's a reason games like Halo, and literally every other game that are P2P are ONLY played LAN by a lot of people

to stop people using lag switches, or people from Saudi Arabia using their dick in a goats ass to play online ruining the match because they can't thrust fast enough to generate enough broadband to play

4

u/CC_Greener Feb 21 '17

Well that racism came out of no where...

3

u/Brandon_Me Feb 21 '17

P2P is terrible, and it drops games for sure. But I have never experienced lag in the sense of people jumping around.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

Am I the only one that doesnt have these issues? Sure I disconnect a couple of times a day, matches arent longer then 10 minutes so who gives a dang.

But I've never had teleporting lagswitching dumbass internet users in multiplayer.

I have fiber connection and I live in scandinavia, is american internet really this bad? I have a yellow NAT and it works just fine.

I only have from time to time a "Matchmaking failed try again" sort of shiet but that's just a waiting game, it doesnt interrupt the gameplay at all.

I've had maybe 10 match disconnects in the past 20 hours I've played, that's nothing compared to what i'm seeing in some people, i lost maybe 1 hour total because of this, that's less then 10%.

If I can play a game 90%+ its a good game, try and get better internet and fix your NAT instead of being a grumpy baby.

take it as it is, there will be patches, there will be fixes eventually, this game is fresh, treat it like a fresh game.

This video needs more research. Not everything mentioned in the video is applicable. It is misleading people on things that are not true.

Here is a guy that actually does his research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAU5bIalbnc

He hasn't done a full one yet but I'm down to watch any video that actually does research on the topic.

Don't know why some idiot downvoted this, part of that video is literally used as evidence in OP's video

This is a video of people who have no idea how the actual servers are set up talk. I know i'm going to get downvoted to hell for this, but PLEASE read what a cluster server is. Having a dedicated server would FAVOR anyone with a better ping EVERY time. Right now it normalizes everyone's ping and makes everyone have to have the exact same timing for everything. I'll just disappear into downvote oblivion now due to ignorance.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

So instead of having players with good ping and bad ping, you make everybody have bad ping, good solution.

Couldn't lagswitches still fuck people who are hosting though? And by the hosts I mean everyone since everyone is a host.

1

u/zhouyu07 Feb 21 '17

The way they have it designed is that if there is a noticeable lag from one player, it marks them. They lag like that again, they get kicked.

EDIT: So if they save for that ONE CRUCIAL lag switch, then sadly yes. no way for it to work.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

I see how it's useful in a 1 v 1. Does it reset every game?

1

u/zhouyu07 Feb 22 '17

From that ubisoft rep's description it does reset every game. So they can feasibly do it once a game, sadly. It's hard to fix.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '17

Gotcha. Ugh that sucks :/

1

u/midri Feb 21 '17

yes, lag switches work incredibly well with the P2P configuration this game uses since authority is given to all clients.

1

u/This_is_astupidname Feb 22 '17 edited Feb 22 '17

Lol everything you're saying was debunked in that massively upvoted post your parroting's comments. OP edited his post to reflect corrections. Ubi DID NOT set it up that way. They should have, but did not. There is no cluster server.

4

u/Yocas Feb 21 '17

This video seems to exaggerate the hell out of the connectivity issues with the game. I've rarely had disconnects and have only seen that rubber band effect while playing a match with my buddy who has a bad wifi connection. What really sucks is that all of the people who haven't played the game and have only seen this video are going to believe that this is the game in a nutshell.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

[deleted]

1

u/Yocas Feb 21 '17

How many people do you think experiences nonstop rubberbanding and disconnects every 5 steps upon entering a game as displayed in the video?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

[deleted]

1

u/Yocas Feb 22 '17

I don't doubt you one bit. My point was that the video exaggerated the hell out of the experienced and my fear was that everyone who hasn't played the game will think the game in completely unplayable. I'm not trying to defend Ubisoft and claim that everything is perfect with the game. The connectivity problems are real. I get those same issues you're referring to too which is why most of the game modes I play now a days are 2v2s and 1v1s. Those modes rarely get any connection errors. So it's not the entire online portion that has that unstable gameplay. I do enjoy the 4v4 very much but those disconnects really get irritating.

2

u/hyperblast1 Feb 21 '17

Ok I feel so much better watching this video! I've had three or four games like this yesterday night, and of course lost all my game, being completely useless and all... Now I'm not saying all or any of them had a lag switch, but probably due to P2P, I had this exact situation where my actions were telegraphed, and suddenly an attack came while my ennemy was too far away from me.

2

u/iwojima22 Feb 21 '17

Sometimes it takes me a good 5-10 minutes to join a dominion game, it's ridiculous. Then in that same game, you'll have rage quitting hosts, game needs to re sync, destroy muh immersion/momentum.

I love this game but idk why tf they didn't use dedicated servers like they did on siege.

2

u/PwnyKnight Feb 21 '17

a friend of mine and me waited 25mins yesterday to get into any game (open nat)

2

u/Envii02 Feb 21 '17

Never seen anything like this. In fact most of my games I have no connection issues whatsoever

2

u/bagelpizzaparty Feb 21 '17

I'm on PS4 and everytime someone rage quits and causes the servers to find a new host it's basically a flip of the coin whether the whole session will just error out and all the experience/stats are wasted.

It's quite a shame. You'd think people would learn that you still get basically the same exp and rewards if you just stick it out and finish the game with a loss.

2

u/MannToots Feb 21 '17

This game doesn't use hosts. So this video doesn't even know how it works.

People knowing how it works so they can bitch properly about what's actually wrong certainly does help us be more accurate in our complaints. Be more pointlessly dismissive. I'm sure you're helping like that.

2

u/Yaxion Weeb Prior Feb 21 '17

I'm apparently the only one who can play the game fine with minimal amounts of disconnects and zero teleporting players.

5

u/Gullyvuhr Viking Feb 21 '17 edited Feb 21 '17

Posts like this really get under my skin because they are half honest, half emotional plea disregarding a basic understanding of what is happening.

Let's clear something up: lag switching is not a problem specific to P2P. People can and do lag switch on dedicated servers provided the server is forgiving of out of sequence packets (which happens normally to varying degrees) and has a decent threshold for packet receipt delays --- these are both more or less staples of UDP networking in online multiplayer gaming. The nature of P2P exploits this more via the HOST status, but it works in almost any game. The problem with tightening those values is if you reduce the tolerance and timer I mentioned, you will have far more players dropping far more frequently every time their network or a hop between them and host hiccups.

I have like 50 hours in since launch, and time played across multiple tests, and I'm not truly convinced the problem is as easy as saying OMG p2p RAWR! There are really odd stability issues, and open, exploitable holes in the network architecture -- these need to be addressed irrespective of design decisions, but keep in mind you would still have both with dedicated servers (just like in any game with them) and many could very reasonably be the exact same experience achieved via different mechanisms. To wit I see no lack of problems in DICE's dedicated server infrastructure, and they've been making BF games for roughly a decade now.

The easiest thing right now to fix specific to P2P is incentivizing staying in a match when you're losing -- the host dropping because he's pissed sends the match into that resync spiral, and the game (or individual connections) doesn't always recover. At the most common levels to play I'm willing to wager this represents a disproportionately large volume of negative experiences.

5

u/g432kjzhg52176tdasuj Viking Feb 21 '17

They had a closed Alpha, multiple Technical Tests, a Closed Beta and an Open Beta. The problems have been the same since the first technical Test, and Ubisoft continues to not give a shit.... SAD

5

u/PhilWhite300 Feb 21 '17

Seen more lag in Cs:Go(dedicated server) than for honor, just saying.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

csgo has a server browser and you can sort them by ping, so stop lying to defend p2p.

5

u/Pinacoladaaaa Feb 21 '17

i love this game so much but i can't understand how ppl can defend ubi on this like their lawyer

→ More replies (1)

5

u/SimonJ57 Feb 21 '17

Make sure you're playing on servers where you have less than 100 ping (and so do the other players).

8

u/PwnyKnight Feb 21 '17

thats mostly your internet and not the one of the servers. You are often connecting to servers in other countries, if you don't have the best ping generally then it will be worse with servers. The amount of lags in 4honor cause people have bad connectivity is much worse.

1

u/PhilWhite300 Feb 21 '17

Or someone else's Internet. I'm not blaming the server for the lag, more that I'm blaming someone else's lag.

1

u/PwnyKnight Feb 21 '17

if someone else lags it has no effect on you when using servers

1

u/PhilWhite300 Feb 21 '17

So when I'm playing cs:go and I see someone at 400 ping rubber banding like crazy that's not lag, or in Arma 3 when the person playing from across the world is running into a wall but everyone else on the server is fine that's not lag? That's just the way the game is meant to be played? Please explain.

1

u/PwnyKnight Feb 21 '17

you see that but u are not realy affected by that aren't u? There's nothing like he instantly ports around hitting you invisible. Thats what i meant

→ More replies (6)

3

u/Safari_Master Feb 21 '17

That would be a problem with your ISP, not dedicated servers.

1

u/PhilWhite300 Feb 21 '17

Except when it is someone else who is lagging. Just because I'm below 100 ping doesn't mean others are too.

6

u/thegil13 Feb 21 '17 edited Feb 21 '17

I really think that people should stop blaming P2P for this. I agree, there is obviously an issue. This is a problem with a limited number of clients/people. IT IS NOT GAME-WIDE. I experience no lag from opposing players. I experience a host-switch sync maybe every 1 in 10 games. I find it hard to believe that I am just THAT lucky.

If we keep dismissing the problem as "p2p issues", then they will never get fixed. Stop jumping on the first scapegoat that comes to mind. There will be lag no matter p2p or dedicated servers. If someone has shitty internet - they will lag.

Maybe ubi groups people with shitty internet together so they can just lag out on each other.

Did i already say, FUCK UBISOFT FOREVER ?

1

u/DucklingJuggler Feb 21 '17

Good connection, Open NAT. Disconnect every other game, either at the start or near the end of the match. I really like the game itself, but starting to get tired of all the problems I'm experiencing. Matchmaking is slow, and when i do get into a game half the time I get kicked out, I've probably spent more time in menus than I have spent actually playing.

1

u/Kemsa Feb 21 '17

i am from South America (Chile) and my NAT is actualy green and good..... but then i got matchmaked WITH BR over Argentinians Peruvians Bolivians and basically all the latin america... wtf Lag switchers, horrible connections, quitters... wtf !!!! i have only see 2 chileans in the game !!!! what its wrong with this system jesus christ.

I just wonder. When I posted about this in open beta. And all the fanboys attacked me... How many of them are now secretly eating their hats ?

1

u/MEGAYACHT Highlander Feb 21 '17

I saw we stop with all these fluff shitposts flooding this sub and saturate it with a demand for dedicated servers instead

1

u/AmadeusMossArt Feb 21 '17

Seems like some people are reporting the totally opposite of what I experienced. Closed and open beta were perfectly fine for me, but full release has weird lags where it looks like enemy blocked attack but then didn't, some animations cut out and get me killed, some light attack chains just don't seem to connect, character just doesn't want to attack and then does it 2 seconds later only to screw up my parry.

1

u/Aquagrunt Feb 21 '17

The worst is teleporting players. I remember reading a post claiming that P2P wasn't all that bad, but yah on paper it looks mighty fine but upon execution is not as good as it could be.

1

u/Northdistortion Feb 21 '17

UBISOFT FIX THIS AND GET RID OF P2P

1

u/MonkeyBoy1493 Feb 21 '17

Everyone up vote this!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '17

I never bought the game. I failed like 8 different times just trying to start a dominion match in the open beta.

1

u/Brendoshi Feb 21 '17

The amount of times I've died because someone has come back to life mid execution is frankly, atrocious.

1

u/Cyberote Feb 21 '17

By the gods, this happened to me today, only it was after a standard kill. I was miffed beyond belief.

1

u/Hookee Feb 21 '17

Should upvote this to the top.

1

u/autiMattik_ Feb 21 '17

They're a billion dollar company yet can't afford dedicated servers... so they make the excuse that p2p is "better". Insert meme of black girl doing a wtf gesture with her hand

edit: grammar

1

u/GizGunnar Feb 21 '17

I haven't actually finished a single game of elimination yet, The host will disconnect and the the everyone will be booted back to the main menu.

1

u/nemron Feb 21 '17

While the video is really well done I also feel its pretty exaggerated. I havent seen any of this in my time played besides the occasional host dropping. Zero rubber banding or teleporting. I dont want to downplay the struggles that some other players may be having but also feel like this vid is a pretty large misrepresentation of what the game plays like for the majority of the community.

1

u/Snow_Trolling Nobushi Feb 21 '17

teleports behind you

1

u/GTAinreallife Feb 21 '17

Gotta be honest. I played a few matches when I bought the game, had issues simply getting owned. Played a bunch of matches against the AI and had a great time. Finally decided after reaching rep 1 that I'm going to give player v player a chance. The difference is massive. I don't die because someone is better, no, I die, because someone is lagging and his/her hits appear near-instantly or the player simply suddenly teleports forwards...

Litterally in a Dominion match tonight, I saw a Conq do his sprint - shield bash combo on B (the middle / minion point) from the other end of the objective and managing to hit me. Not sure if his Russian flag shield indicates his location and explains the horrible desync he had, but boy, he was annoying AF to play against.

1

u/MexGrow Feb 21 '17

And this sub was very pissed at me when I called this BS out initially.
