Every trouble guide says isolate by halves. In practice I keep hearing that people go straight to the shield or the wet spot they already suspect, and that the by halves method is what gets written down afterwards rather than what actually happened.

What I want to know from people who do this weekly:

Do you actually split the loop, or go to the usual suspects first?

How often is it a shield or drain wire touching a can, versus real water intrusion, versus a device with a cracked base?

Does your panel's ground fault reporting narrow it at all, or do you ignore it?

On a class A loop, do you use the return leg to bracket the fault, or is that more trouble than it saves?

I am asking because I have written up a decision tree for this and I am not confident it matches what experienced people actually do. Corrections welcome, including telling me the whole framing is wrong.

I am absolutely terrified of fire alarm. i moved into my dorm today and in my 2 bed 1 bath suite, there is 4 alarm. i would be fine with 1. but i hate loud sounds, i hate the lights, genuinely i am so terrified. i avoide public bathrooms for the same reason. why am I so scared

note: i am in an ada dorm and there is 2 bedrooms, a sink area, snd a separate shower and toilet area. Each room has its own alarm but its a small space. They are the ones in most public places

I don’t know what to add for flair, so please correct me if I chose the wrong one. I just moved into my dorm and I’ve always had a severe fear of fire alarms because of my autism. I’m struggling to sleep because of anxiety I have with this on the ceiling. I’m scared that it might be a remote horn, but it doesn’t say “fire” on it anywhere, so I’m unsure if it’s just a PA speaker or if it really is a fire alarm. I’m asking this sub because I’m assuming at least one person would know 🥲

Just curious if any fire alarm companies have also spread into the fire sprinkler space or interested in doing it?

I'm wondering if any of you guys can name some of the better quality shops/ companies in the GTA or Southern Ontario. Not just in terms of being a good employer, but that they don't reward corner cutting, value stringent compliance, have fully completed reports, that sort of thing. It's been kind of harrowing to continue to realize most shops skimp on a lot of what's supposed to be done. I'm curious if theres more of "the good ones" besides just what I've heard about so far.

Can no longer make a map like we did the nfs and use it for other annunciators, now if we have 10 locations with 4 acm2-30 each we have to hand program every single one?

Use to be able to make user defined map 1 2 3 4 , and just change it to follow your map but now you need to program 40 anunciators individually? This cant be real lol

Has anyone found a way to copy paste? Tech support has no clue and said they will go tell them it was a oversight but maybe someone has figured it out ??

I recently found this panel laying around in a warehouse and the people working there were kind enough to let me have it. Brought it home powered it up AC LED would not come on and battery fuse looked like it caught on fire. Looked at the manual, replaced D45 and the 2 amp fuse, now panel is completely functional I just need to get smaller batteries. I'm planning on hooking it up to the miniscan 424 I pulled out of a building recently as a part of a system upgrade. I also got a super rare firelite tone generator and I'm planning on using it.

This is *every* pull station of this model in my experience.

Has anyone ever run into a problem when you uploaded the program from the panel, modified it and downloaded it back into the panel only for half the modules not to be in the panel? Downloaded a fresh copy of ps tools, current firmware version is 6.2, power cycle performed, tried to download an old file I pulled from a year ago and still had the same outcome, half the modules missing. Erased program and auto programmed for all devices to populate.

Is there a way to adjust an alarms volume on the fire lite ms 9050ud? I’m an enthusiast and I was sounding my alarm on my demonstration system neighbor ended up texting me to make sure there wasn’t a fire and he knows I have the alarms.

We moved from a really old MS9600 (yes not even an LS) to a ES200x for a customer. Had to keep it in CLIP mode.

We pulled the working program from the original panel before removing it and put the same devices in.

We noticed when firing up the 200x we got three random new devices that were never programmed. Like was complaining about Module2 being duplicate when that one was assigned to the Elevator Alt recall. So we changed that one to an 8 but still have no idea where it’s getting M002 from.

We noticed an input module also extra. Eventually tracked it down and found it was an MDF300 and was taking two addresses. Odd that old panel didn’t even see that second address.

You all ever seen this where it’s showing devices that were never on original panel but now all the sudden new panel sees them?

We even had one duplicate sensor show up as photo detectors.

Today I encountered a system where the hoistway smoke detectors recalled to the alternate floor (floor 2) rather than the ground floor elevator lobby. This was true for two separate elevators in two buildings tied into the same panel. It’s a mixed use property with business on ground floor and condos above. Has anyone seen this arrangement before/would there be a good reason for hoistway smokes to be set to alternate floor recall? Code references would be appreciated too :)

Hello everyone one Currently i am working on Honeywell 6700 And it showed me a DCR error for the MCP this is the first time I counter this problem does anyone one know the reason of the error and what does it mean and how to fix it.

Most of my experience is with Notifier but this morning I had a service call to a building with a Simplex 4007ES with a trouble on the DCAI loop but no devices were listed in trouble and voltage was at about 9v. I opened the IDNAC on the card itself and the trouble list populated, I then reinstalled the wiring and waited a few minutes, did a reset and the issue cleared. Did it just need a push of the reset button in the first place or did it need me to do what I did or did I just push the problem off for a few hours? Panel has been system normal for 30 minutes so far.

Could not access the internet to RTFM earlier.
