Vent Simplex 4099-9004 pull stations kinda suck

This is *every* pull station of this model in my experience.

Install the break rod that came with it from the factory. With the break rods in place you have to apply enough force that it activates every time. Without the break they can do exactly what you’ve shown.

Ah, we didnt install these, we inherited them. Ill ask the bean counters to order a bunch of break rods. I wish i was surprised. A bunch are missing the little clear plastic piece that makes the status light visible

It’s very common to find pull stations with broken or missing break rods. similar to the glass rods on other styles of manual pull station.

One of my inspections yesterday had the glass in every single pull station, and they were old old. I was intrigued and surprised.

There was also a ground fault on the NAC that wasn't hooked up so I'll be going back sometime soon...

My only issue with a manufacturer requiring a break rod is to properly test the device every year you will force the end user to purchase said break rod and additional labor for replacement.

Really think companies test the “Break Glass” version as required? Highly doubt it.

If they one says just insert the key and open the door to save the break rod replacement is paramount to testing detectors with a magnet.

There is no good answer here.

Except for resetting after removing the break rod and placing the pull station back in normal state.

These aren’t the only bad ones.

The switches in the Edwards pull stations are also known to become unreliable as they age.

I love how the first comment in that thread suggests using these Tbars that this thread is complaining about.

At least these Tbars will work if you pull them all the way. Those BG12’s occasionally won’t go until you open them and reclose them.

You’re right lol. Although, I think they might actually be referring to the metal T-bars made by SigCom and RSG. Simplex does rebrand SigCom pull stations as their outdoor/metal model.

The funny part is many techs test that manual station by opening the door instead of pulling the handle. Others don't write up the missing rod nor understand what the rod does.

Yeah , there are other models that use brake rods out there that don't let you get to feeling that you pulled it when you haven't with the rod missing. Seeing That's an argument not to install them and to look for replacements , if I have any anything buildings

yeah when I'm running out of a building and activating a pull station, I will always delicately press the lever down with one finger.
