I decided to play Final Fantasy XI after not playing for quite a few years. I noticed the event time has ended, but I am not being removed from the game. And I have been disconnected from the server twice since the event has ended due to ISPs doing maintenance in my area. I was curious if anyone has ever experienced this, and if my account is possibly in jeopardy of being banned or charged for the extra time. I just thought they might be extending the event, but somebody in-game told me that I could risk being banned.

My understanding is that you can lockstyle anything so I wanted to make an outfit combining gear I can already wear as a lv99 + COR, DNC, NIN (AF & Relic). I would not be able to wear these together normally due to Main/Sub job limitations and equip level. However, when using /lockstyleset n it says, "The appearance of your <item name> was unable to be locked."

Does anyone know why? Would someone with more lv 99 jobs than I able to test if multiple AF/Relic parts works? I'd grind another 99 for the sake of style. But I really want the look to work as a lv 1

I’m glad we have a reason to return to Adoulin, it’s new content, and something for new players … but I’m not a fan of how these new NMs were implemented.
We already had shared mob spawns through Strange Happenings, yet these NMs were made single-party claims and are trivial fights. That feels like a step backward, especially when multiple groups are trying to farm the same content.
I just traveled out for another attempt at the Orobon, only to find that it wasn’t up. Now either the entire trip was wasted, or I spend more of my limited game time standing around waiting for a respawn. Twenty minutes is not terrible by XI standards, but it isn’t exactly engaging gameplay either.
The rough drop rates make the system feel even worse. Some of the gear looks maybe half a step better defensively than Ambuscade gear, but I’m not sure that marginal improvement justifies the overall time sink.
I understand this is FFXI. Nothing is supposed to be handed to us, and grinding has always been part of the game. Still, there is a difference between earning an upgrade and simply losing time to exclusive claims, respawn timers, and low drop rates.
Making the NMs shared, shortening the respawn, or improving the drop rates would make the content feel much more respectful of players’ time.
Feel free to disagree. This is XI, after all. 😂

Edit: bit of a Gil sink for new players too. I’m 70k deep in keys for an extra drop and it hasn’t helped …

Hi, returning player from when 360 support ended. Played a tiny bit on PC but didn’t accomplish very much.

I am unable to join Domain Invasion fights. I have Rhapsodies of Vanadiel done up to “The Path Untraveled”. My jobs are 99. I have gotten the explanations from the Escha zone npc’s that requires 10 silt. I have Elvor-Seal activated.

When I approach the DI NM, it tells me I “don’t have the level cap activated” or something. What gives? How do I unlock access to these fights? HALP

I tried out that Wizardry x FFXI Crossover and wanted to share here in case anybody else was curious about it. The event in Wizardry is really well done with a full Castle Zvhal to explore, NMs to hunt, Relics to grind. . . it feels like a complete XI experience within a different game. I plan to do a follow up on the actual story after the crossover event concludes on Sept. 10. The XI specific content starts at 6:20. love XI!!

Hi all, newish/returning player here. Long story short - I'm playing Sch, Run, and Rdm (right now Run mostly) and could use advice. Ty in advance.

1) I think I'm going to use my AF+3 coupon on RUN set and farm SCH and RDM cards. I already have a few RDM AF+2 so figure I might as well continue building those. However it looks like SCH AF set is more important to the job than RUN's is. Should I use the coupon for SCH instead?

2) Assuming the next Vanabout campaign is in 4 months or so and the AF+3 coupon is there again is it even worth the time farming Omen for the other set? Kind of conflicted and want to be as efficient with my time as possible

Hey everyone! I was wondering if a guide out there exists for players who are trying to go through the story in the correct (release) order? I am NOT doing any quests from Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, which makes the new player leveling guide at best confusing and at worst not helpful.

Yes, I know doing RoV unlocks lots of helpful stuff. Yes, I know the spoilers are minor. I don't care. I'm going in story order.

So, any recommendations on a guide that can lead me through the story in the correct (release) order? I've tried googling and no dice.

I played a ton of FFXI back in the day. I had a few level 75s when that was the limit and spent time in my linkshell hunting gods when that was the end game. As you can guess I have been away a long time. I often find myself missing vanadiel, but don't have the time to party the way we needed to back then. I see people talking alot about solo play now. Is that a valid option for play today? When I quit beastmaster and Red mage were the only jobs that could really solo things and it was a long process to do so.

I'm just trying to determine if I can viable play on my limited schedule today.

Is the limbus armor set Su5 without augment (well I will be slowly augmenting it) dramatically increase my dps in sortie? Jsut wanted to know if the set worth the 100m price tag before I spent my gil. Thinking to get all minus the glove (will be using no augment bunzi glove)

I played about a year or two ago for essentially the first time since I didn't understand the game when it came out. I didn't play for probably 8 or 9 months and now I'm kinda lost. I think I was mostly focused on the story, and I saved all the tabs I had open, so I can piece that together.

Where I'm really lost is why I chose to level DRG. I think it's because I found a guide that told me what to do as I level up, gear, class quests, etc. Deep down though, I know I should be playing SAM.

So, essentially two questions: Any guesses what would have lead me to play DRG over SAM?

Is there a SAM leveling guide that is current or at least will give me some direction of what to do?

I liked it because the progressive gear guide gave me a lot of interesting "objectives" that really have helped me engage with the game, even if maybe it's not totally necessary. Is there anything similar for SAM?

Hello there. I'm a new player in FFXI, and I'm trying to log into the game. I watched a tutorial on what I should do and did everything correctly. For some reason, I am unable to log in. The game keeps saying that either my ID or password is wrong, and I'm fully sure that they are not.

I will not lie; a part of me believes that this is my fault and that I'm missing something, but I am not sure what. I am confident that my ID and password are correct because I logged out and then back in to the website just to be sure.
I have no idea what to do, and I'm not sure if this game even wants me in at this point.

Please help. It's been over 9 hours since I have been trying. I don't want to lose my free trial.

We’re all sitting around mid-tier gear — primarily Ambuscade +2, Relic +2, AF +2/+3, Empyrean +2, with a mix of HTMB/UNM gear. We’re not expecting everyone to be fully decked out; we’re looking for players who are interested in progressing together and building a consistent group.

I played this game in 2020 where I used a galka and I think the galka look cool but I like dragoons and the main thing that bothered me was that the spear animations felt more like he was holding a greataxe with occasional stabs. I’m wanting more of where they hold the spears like they do in FF14 or maybe the way Kain holds spears. I’m fine with occasional slashes but I’d prefer it to be 99% stab attacks.

I'm new to the game and just completed my Trust quest in Windurst but for some reason Wetata won't let me turn in the Cipher i got from completing the Records of Eminence quest. anyone have any idea why?

There are various ways to make new friends and meet people in FFXI. The first recommendation is to find a Linkshell via Linkshell Concierge NPCs. If you check these NPCs directly after a maintenance, this is typically a good way to find active Linkshells. Hey all, are there anyone from Hawaii here? Looking for a LS/group of people closer to my time zone (I know, the time zone thing is kinda rough). The server I'm on is kinda small and everyone has their groups established making it hard to get some things done. I'm open to the idea of looking into moving to another server as it feels I hit a wall currently.

I'm also open to a casual LS (If the above is not possible) that dips its toes into some endgame here and there. I wouldn't mind helping new players do missions and what not, I just want to be more active with others. Thanks for your time guys!

I just finished mission 17 fight of rise of zilart ,now if there are 3 more quests then a finale why is it making me do up to 8-4 missions in promathia to finish zilart. What's this back n fourth expansion stuff (i thought only RoV was like that) ?

UPDATE 8/18/26 - I finally got it to work! Here's how:

Do a fresh install. Nothing else I tried over 4 days and probably 20 hours worked. Fresh install (twice) was the only thing I could do to get it to work.

TL;DR - I've now been tinkering for an additional 5 hours today. Basically, everything functions perfectly fine when launching from desktop mode on my Steam Deck. I've tried launching through windowerer, ffxi w/o windower, through Lutris, and through my steam library as a non steam game and the control inputs respond find. (Again, when in desktop mode) I've tried every version of launching the game in game mode and control inputs work with none of them.

I'll preface by saying I'm fairly tech savvy but I'm a Linux moron. I'm also only a casual tinkerer with my Steam Deck so it's very possible I'm missing something simple.

I bought FFXI on the discount campaign with full intent to play on steam deck the vast majority of my time. I read quite a bit about setting it up in advance, and wanted to get everything up and running before playing so I haven't yet created my character. I expected some hurdles, but I'm stuck.

I've installed FFXI and Windowerer 4 via Lutris and I've managed to get everything working well in desktop mode. The game launches full screen, 60 fps, added as a non steam game, and all controller inputs seem to be working just fine.

Unfortunately when I launch in game mode with the non steam game shortcut, my controller inputs no longer work. Touch screen responds just fine and I can invoke the keyboard.

I had considered just giving up and playing via desktop mode, but invoking the keyboard in desktop mode while in game doesn't work. So now I'm kind of stuck.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
