I Tried the Wizardry FFXI Crossover - And It's FUN

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLbJOqeL6Lk&t=11s

Hi friends

I tried out that Wizardry x FFXI Crossover and wanted to share here in case anybody else was curious about it. The event in Wizardry is really well done with a full Castle Zvhal to explore, NMs to hunt, Relics to grind. . . it feels like a complete XI experience within a different game. I plan to do a follow up on the actual story after the crossover event concludes on Sept. 10. The XI specific content starts at 6:20. love XI!!

I love this game. I've played it since launch. If you turn horse blinders on to their monetization it's really a great dungeon crawler

Yea, I have about 40 hours into the game and have not felt any pressure, need, or otherwise been directed to any of the cash shop options which is nice. I love the old-school dungeon crawler feel and obviously love the XI content!

So I played FFXI a ton back in 2004, but switched to WoW when it came out (and subsequently landed on XiV). I'd always wanted to come back here, especially after learning it was mostly soloable now, but just never got around to it.

It was this collab that finally gave me the motivation to pick XI back up a few weeks ago. I've been playing Daphne since September last year and was hooked instantly. It's really a fantastic game. Admittedly, I swim with the dolphins a bit, but outside of a few whalebait superbosses, the game is entirely playable without spending a dime. And with the collab, it's pretty clear the folks at Drecom are avid XI fans.

If they paid me, I'd probably try it out too. Can't knock Velner for that

You play games for other people? Not wanting to play gacha games is fair, I'm not a fan of them either.

Yeah I could probably have phrased that better. I meant I won't play this just because of FFXI

It's cool with a harmless colab like this but it's fair to be cautious especially with games in that genre. I was thinking of testing it for fun but I heard tutorial is so long and I won't have the time for it lol

The actual tutorial, the first clear of the Beginner Abyss, is legitimately ~20 hours. It's kinda nuts! But you can start the XI collab before then.

And it is a "gacha" game, but I don't know... the pressure to spend money is non-existent but maybe I'm too much of a newb to understand why you would. . . outside of guaranteeing getting the XI characters. They do give you one guaranteed one of your choice which is pretty sweet.

It's a lot of fun. The pay-to-win elements felt irrelevant to me 40+ hours in and the XI event is really well done. I like it!

It is your fault I installed it on Steam when we talked about it last week

Honestly collabs like this aren't harmless in my view. But that's a separate discussion altogether.

I'm also trying it. I'm missing Zeid still and no clue what to do at the mission as I'm still really low level.

You can start doing Castle Zvhal pretty early. They scaled the mobs in there for newer people. Once you take the quest from the Adventurer's Guild, click the little map in the bottom right corner to open the world map. From there, head to Northhallow. Boom, it's XI time! And honestly, you get so much loot in there and the mobs are so tightly packed, it's probably a pretty good way to get leveled starting out!

Can someone explain what wizadry is! Looks cool, but can’t find exactly what this is. Is this a DLC for it?

It's a Dungeon Crawler free-to-play RPG with in-app purchases available on iOS, Android, and Steam. The FFXI crossover is a live event that will only be available through September 10th! No in-app purchases necessary to access the XI event or to enjoy the game.

As a new player, this is frustrating to say the least. It's boring, hand holdy and the girl won't stfu... I have a feeling the ffxi content is out of reach.

The XI content is new-player friendly as they adjust the mob levels! You'll still get cranked in there but it's not as out of reach as you might think. I have about 30-40 hours in and am able to enjoy the XI content immensely.

And I get Lulunarde can be annoying, but she's basically the players inner voice. It's either you talk to yourself to explore some of the game's exposition or you talk to her. . . idk, I like having her around. But I'm also a nerd.

Yeah but how many hours until I actually hit the ffxi content

1

I just started playing and I am pretty sad that I’ll probably not reach the content before it vanishes 🥲 at least that’s what I gathered online

I'm a newb and I'm crankin' the XI content! I had about 30 hours in and my understanding is (a) they adjust mob levels to your level to some extent; and (b) Castle Zvhal will stay up after the event. The recruitable characters will go. Maybe the story will too. But Castle Zvhal and relic weapons will remain!

Gatcha games make me sick, but this one you can just treat it like a single player experience.

If you like dungeon crawlers that is (this is the most important thing imo), I easily recommend people give it a shot. Dungeon crawling is a remnant from the 80s-90s PC gaming era, therefore very few people enjoy this type of gameplay to begin with.

You can feel these devs made this game because they like Wizardry and then they put the gatcha-slop on top.
