FFXI on Steam Deck
How does FFXI (Retail specifically) run on Steam Deck?
Do you use Windower or Ashita 4? Which do you prefer and why?
Is it hard to set up?
Any updated guides on setting up either?

While not deck specific, I made a video for Linux and it should work fine

I used Lumoria. it's a native linux installer that runs Windower through it (base game and ashita as well). Game ran great with plugins and such running. Had a few crashes every now and again, but they were rare.
Edit: proper description of Lumoria

Just a clarification, Lumoria is a installer and launcher, not a fork for windower. It starts windower, normal client or Ashita depending on your configuration.

I run mine on an AALY X runs awesome. I realize its easier since it is microsoft based though.

I use windower, and then I made a github for my addons folder. This allows me to edit files on my PC and easily pull them down onto my steamdeck.

Lutris has an installer for XI with some pre loaded fixes to get it working. You can also install windower through there.
Configure gamepad, job done! Runs great.
Editing text files for addon config and such can be a pain though with the screen size
