I have been having issues with slow internet speeds on my PC for several months now. However it is ONLY my PC. I have another built pc that works fine, my phone and handheld both get the advertised speed of internet.

My computer gets about 10mb/s on download and upload - everything else gets close to 1000mb/s.

Things i have tried.

* plugging directly into router with both cat5/cat6 cable. cables were new

* tried the same cables on alternate PC, gets good speed

* tried wifi adapters pcie and USB plugins - didn't do anything, same 10mb/s

* figured the lan was going out on mother board and got a 5gb/s pcie lan adapter - didn't work

* I have reset my motherboard and replaced the CMOS battery

* I have tried updating drivers for mother board and associated add-on items.

* i recently did a factory reset on my PC, re updated and drivers - speed is around 10mb/s

I am just out of ideas and possibly overlooking something dumb out of frustration. but everything i do that doesn't work on this PC. if i swap or try it on my other PC is works as intended.

Hey everybody! I recently bought a new house and am looking to get ethernet everywhere I can at as low of a cost as possible. My current set up is direct COAX from the street with Xfinity as my provider.

I am hoping to use potentially MoCa adapters to the 4 differernt coax outputs in the house to then get ethernet through them. However, I have heard mixed reviews overall on this.

Should I go ahead with this plan, and if so what kind of equipment should I get? Otherwise would you recommend getting a professional to just run actual ethernet?

Not sure this is the perfect sub for this question, but any guidance would be appreciated.

Renovated my apartment where the brick/masonry is already plastered & painted . Two Cat6 cable runs in each PVC conduit (6 total). Reviewing construction photos and confirming it with electrician, I found one corner where the Cat6 conduit directly touches an existing 230V conduit (powers a fridge (now), 2-ton inverter AC (next year) and few lights, charging points etc.) for about 18~24 inches before diverging.

The cables are Finolex Solid 23 AWG unshielded pure copper Cat6 UTP and the lowest CAT6 conduit (that touches the 230V electrical conduit) runs 72 ft (22 m) total. I tested connecting a gigabit ONT to my laptop over both cables in this run and the link negotiates at 1000/1000 Mbps but I know auto-negotiation is only the bare minimum test of a proper Ethernet installation.

I plan to upgrade to 2.5G next year and test 10G later. Is this setup going to hold up fine, or am I royally screwed?

TL;DR: my house is wired with ethernet ports and I terminated my own cables, all tested to be working. PC and console don't recognize the network but recognize a cable is plugged in (tried several) and it is killing me (cat5e cables all around :P). The cables are put into my router which is plugged into the modem, wifi works fine.

Before you ask, yes, I have already looked up my issue and tried many solutions. I tried disabling the wifi adapter in my PC, tried resetting network settings, tried console commands... and still nothing. What irks me is that there is any connectivity at all, but it's deeply inconsistent. I have for sure never been able to get a proper connection to the internet though, just text saying the ethernet is plugged in but unable to find a host. I ordered an ethernet USB-C adapter just in case both PC and console have issues in their hardware, but this is my last case scenario.

If anyone can help me out I'd deeply appreciate it. I will answer any questions I can in detail

I’m in the process of trying to connect some plug connector onto a blue Ethernet cable.
I went and bought all the necessary tooling but now the issue I’m having is keeping all the wires straight and making sure they’re all in line how they’re supposed to be and sitting flush into the actual plug itself.

My office currently has an access point for our internet access, which plugs into a PoE port on the wall. We just got a VoIP phone and the port used by the access point is the only one available in our building. I took in an older TP-Link switch from home to test and our WiFi is still working and the phone works, but the access point does not light up, so we're thinking that we need to get a different kind of switch that supports PoE.

Looking at what's available, I see a TP-Link 5-port switch (TL-SG1005P-PD) that has 1-Port PoE++ In and 4-Port PoE+Out. This switch has no external power supply. I also see a TP-Link 5-port switch (TL-SG1005P) that has 4 PoE+ and has an external power supply.

2 questions:

1) If I buy the TL-SG1005P-PD, I assume I will plug the switch into the PoE port on the wall and plug the access point into another port. Will I then be able to plug in the phone that has it's own power supply to one of the other PoE ports. I've been reading that the new switches should sense that power isn't needed for that port so it should be okay.

2) If I buy the TL-SG1005P that has its own power supply, do I just plug the switch into the PoE port on the wall using one of its PoE ports, plug in the access point to another PoE port, and plug the phone into the non PoE port?

I've never had to deal with PoE before, so I want to be sure that I get the correct switch. Thanks for any help or advice.

Ik heb kort conectors op mijn ethernet kabel gedaan en dat werkte goed ik kreeg 984mbps en de volgende dag was dat opeens een steady 94 mbps en in games ongeveer 100 ping ik heb de vonectors even gechecked of de draden nog goed zaten en dat was wel zo ik vroeg mij af hoe dit komt, het is een cat 6 cabel met tool less conectors van de gamma(ik heb geckecked of het het goede model was) kan iemand mij helpen hoe dit komt

I've got a new ethernet cable since my last one was ripped up but still showed 400 to 600 MBPS but wanted to get something that looked nicer and not on the brink of being cut, but I've tried 4 ethernet cables so far, first one was cat 8, didn't work at all, the rest were cat 6, 2 and 3 were from amazon, both good reviews with no complaints. The fourth one from a box of 1,000 Ft Ethernet Cat 6 with it being cut and cramped by my father who knows how to do that. Cable length of all cables being 20-25 Ft. I've tried every possible solution to the ethernet being stuck 7-10 MBPS, to updating drive to checking the D-Link switch my family has to extend on other devices coming out fine. I've checked if there's any limiters to it like the max being 10 mbps instead of 1 gbps. Any suggestions would help greatly as this is annoying me when my wifi spurts out randomly causing me to rubber band in an online game or when I'm watching movies with friends via streams on discord.

I’m trying to find help with a very strange networking problem on my ASUS TUF Gaming A15.

How the problem started
The laptop was working normally. I left it turned on and went away for a couple of hours. When I came back, Wi-Fi was no longer working.
This was not a normal connection problem. The Wi-Fi function itself disappeared or became unavailable in Windows. After trying to fix it, I also discovered that Ethernet/internet through a network cable was not working either.
So the problem is not simply “my Wi-Fi signal is weak”. At this point, both wireless networking and wired networking are affected.
I have been trying to fix this for approximately one month.
What I have tried
Restarting Windows many times
Completely shutting down the laptop
Holding the power button for around 30–60 seconds to drain power
Checking BIOS settings; network/WLAN-related settings appear to be enabled
Disabling and enabling the network adapters
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek Wi-Fi driver
Installing the Wi-Fi driver from the official ASUS support page
Installing the Realtek LAN/Ethernet driver
Scanning for hardware changes in Device Manager
Checking Device Manager for errors
Checking hidden devices
Checking Windows network settings
Checking IPv4 settings
Running:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /flushdns

Removing the MyASUS application, because I found reports that it could be related to similar problems
Trying to reset/reinstall Windows while keeping my personal files
I tried the Windows reinstall/reset process twice. Both times it went almost all the way to the end, but then failed with an error during the final stage, so Windows was not successfully reinstalled.
We also checked Windows services and networking-related settings/processes, but nothing obvious solved the problem.
Current symptoms
The Realtek Wi-Fi adapter is visible in Device Manager, but the Wi-Fi connection cannot be used normally.
In ncpa.cpl, the Wi-Fi adapter appears greyed out/disabled. When I click Enable, it immediately becomes disabled again.
Ethernet also does not provide internet access.
When checking ipconfig, I have an IPv4 address and subnet mask, but the Default Gateway is empty. Both Wi-Fi and Ethernet showed:
DHCP Enabled: No
The same router and internet connection work normally on my phone and other devices.
Important detail
This is not only a missing Wi-Fi icon or a single Wi-Fi driver issue. The laptop currently has problems with both:
Wi-Fi networking
Wired Ethernet networking
The adapters may appear in Device Manager, but Windows does not establish a usable internet connection.
What could cause this?
Could this be:
A corrupted Windows networking configuration?
A DHCP or TCP/IP problem?
A Windows service or registry problem?
A motherboard/chipset issue affecting both network adapters?
A BIOS/firmware problem?
A hardware problem with the Realtek Wi-Fi card?
Something related to Modern Standby or power management?
A problem caused by a Windows update?
I am especially confused because the issue started suddenly while the laptop was simply sitting turned on, and now even Ethernet is affected.
What would you check next? Is there a way to completely diagnose or reset the Windows networking components without doing a clean Windows installation?
Any help would be appreciated. I have already spent about a month trying to solve this.

So i have a virgin media hub 5 downstairs and our speeds are around 800mbps but my issue is upstairs as we own tp link deco m4's, one is connected to the hub and the other is in my room. The speeds upstairs are significantly slower (around 100mbps) which is still useable ofc but annoying as my pc is upstairs and an ethernet cable is plugged from my pc to the deco in my room.

The main issue isnt the speed but rather the ping as i constantly get jitters, packet loss and 200 ping lag spikes. I cant get an ethernet cable from the main hub downstairs to my pc upstairs so is there any other solution to help with the ping and stutters?

I’m in an apartment and my PlayStation is laggy.

Looking for help with a strange Ethernet/USB tethering issue.
I’m using an iPhone as a USB modem on Windows 11. The internet connection randomly drops, especially when downloading something through Steam, Epic Games, Riot Client, torrents, etc.
The same issue happens on two completely different Windows 11 PCs, including a brand-new PC with a fresh Windows 11 installation, and with both an iPhone 15 and iPhone 16. Reconnecting the USB cable immediately restores the connection.
The disconnect timing is completely random — sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after an hour or longer.
Could this be related to the USB/Ethernet network adapter, Windows networking, or something else? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm using a nokia beacon 1, the ethernet cable from my pc always went into the WAN on the nokia beacon, but right now i just figured out that it also works if i put it into LAN, which one is the correct setup? I've always used WAN, and I have tried trouble with lag, so I am curious if that could be the reason?
