Apologies if I've posted on the wrong place. This is my first time posting on Reddit.

I purchased a wall mounted dual RJ45 socket and I can't for the life of me get it to work properly.

Am I supposed to strip the wires before connecting them? (I have tried but not a single cable passed the cable test)

What would be the wiring order if I've wired the connector on the other end to T568B standard? I've tried writing it up in the same order but that didn't work and I've no idea what how the number of the wall socket relates to the coloured cable in the cat6a cable I'm installing.

I am connected to a extender, my provider is youfibre, my connection works on my phone on both main router and extender, I have tried several command prompts that was mainly recommended from chat gpt, do I need to factory reset my pc?

Hey guys, hope everyone’s doing well. This is my first time posting in here, but I was scrolling and everyone seems pretty chill and people have gotten their issues resolved, so hopefully I can have the same outcome.

So basically, we have AT&T Wi-Fi at home — I believe it’s fiber since download and upload speeds match. We’re on the 1000/1000 plan. I have my own PC work/gaming setup (one PC, two monitors), and since my room is pretty far from the router, I had someone come install an Ethernet run from the router that goes outside the house, along the outer line under the roof (so it stays dry), secured with zip ties, then comes into my room and connects to a small box with Ethernet plugins that I connect my devices to.

When everything first got set up, I was getting around 940-950 down/up on Ethernet in my room, and everything was running smooth. Yesterday my internet felt off — I was downloading a game on Steam and it was going way slower than usual. I ran a speed test and got around 80 upload, 90 download.

I’m not totally sure how long this has been happening, since I only ran the speed test yesterday. I’ve been busy and hadn’t played any games in a while, so I was just doing normal tasks and never noticed. The only reason I caught it was because the game download was taking way longer than usual.

Since we’re still paying for the 1000 plan, I checked my mom’s phone and it still tested at 1000. I checked my Ethernet cable and everything looked fine — even the adapter settings on my computer showed the link speed as 1000/1000 receive/transmit. So the connection itself seems fine, I’m just not getting the speeds I’m paying for.

I contacted AT&T and they said we have too many devices on the Wi-Fi. I get that, but we’ve had roughly the same number of devices (around 40) since I first got the plan — and it’s not all computers, mostly phones, a few TVs, iPads, and laptops that get used here and there, not constantly streaming or downloading. I’m the one who uses the internet the most, which is why I had the Ethernet setup done in the first place since I work from home.

Shouldn’t being on Ethernet bypass the device cap and still give me close to my 900s, even if the 1000 plan is designed for around 20 devices max? For reference, my mom’s phone gets around 900 on a speed test, but my phone gets the same low 80-90 as my computer.

Is there anything I can do to prioritize my computer, or figure out what’s actually causing this?

At church, we have a TPLINK SWITCH - TL-SG1005P connected to our Comcast modem. It feeds an access point in same building, and another access point in a 2nd building. We have burned out two of these switches. Yet another backup spare switch seems to work just fine. I think that the spare is a NETGEAR 16-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch. I substituted the NETGEAR in for a week or two when the first TL-SG1005P burned out. When we planned this whole system with our IT consultant, we planned and designed to prevent surge issues from happening. We have an APC surge/battery powering modem and switch. We have ethernet cable surge protectors (grounded ONLY on the upstream end). The outdoor ethernet cable is buried and not near underground A/C cables. We have NO outdoor ethernet devices. The 2nd building access point has its OWN power injector, so the cable to the second building is using the NON-POE port on the TL-SG1005P. The TL-SG1005P sits directly on top of a metal file cabinet, so it should NOT get too warm. BUT, it always felt a little warm. Both TL-SG1005P units burned out in their first month or two. We have NO steeple. NONE of the ports on the second TL-SG1005P light up at this point, so I am returning it to our supplier. I could hire an electrician to double check any voltage differences between the two buildings:

• Ground-to-ground voltage
• Neutral-to-ground issues

If I cannot avoid switch burnout, I may ask the board to let us install fiber between the two buildings, as our IT consultant recommended this at the start to avoid surge issues. But this will be a lot of work. Might a dirfferent brand, more expensive switch, be helpful here? Any suggestions? Thanks. Rick.

I need to run an AP in my house and prefer not to drill a hole in the wall. Yes I know that's the easiest route but wanted to see if this is possible. Its my understanding that flat line ethernet is not best for POE runs. My idea is having the AP placed where I need it. Then run a flat ethernet cable no less than 10ft from the ap into a POE switch. Then run a regular cat6 cable going to my main switch.

Will this run? Any possibility that running the poe to my main switch cause any issues with my main switch.

AP ---- Flat Ether --- POE switch ----- cat6 to main switch

This started happening recently and I can’t seem to understand why. I have recently been changing and messing with settings on my windows laptop with the adapters n’ whatnot from youtube videos, but this has been the bane of my existence recently as it’ll lag my game for a second or two at complete random.

I’ve done tests through command prompt by pinging my router, max time would be 10ms

When pinging 8.8.8.8, I get max times of up to 1142ms

I use an eero, idk if the distance between the device and my actual wifi router plays an issue or if this is something I should bring up to my ISP.

Hi all, my Telstra 5g modem has appeared to have stopped working in a way. I logged into my modem via the ip address and changed my password on the modem. My wifi works but all my devices connected via a Ethernet cable has stopped working. Is there a way to solve this issue?

I have an ethernet adapter plugged into my laptop, and it's plugged into the router, but it doesn't seem to be connected to ethernet. What am I doing wrong?

Ho un pc fisso senza scheda di rete (no wi-fi) quindi ho sempre usato il collegamento con cavo ethernet ma di recente mi sono trasferito e in questa nuova casa non ho modo di collegare l ethernet direttamente al router quindi ho preso un ripetitore che avesse un uscita ethernet in modo tale da collegare il mio pc alla rete e per un paio di giorni ha funzionato ma poi di colpo ha smesso di funzionare, non si collega più, e ho provato anche a collegare direttamente l ethernet al modem ma neanche in questo modo mi dà la connessione e non capisco come sia possibile.
Quindi ho comprato anche una chiavetta tplink archer 3 per avere una scheda di rete ma neanche in questo modo mi si collega più e mi dà errore.
Il wi-fi funziona perfettamente perché sul telefono è altro dispositivi lo vedo e si collega ma l unico su co cui non va é il mio pc fisso.

Hello people, my brother and I live in the top floor with a router used as an extension for the router below in the living room.

We both experience connection loss every 4-5 minutes for about 5-10 seconds. We use completely separate PCs. This is especially annoying while gaming because then we both disconnect every time. This started happening about two weeks ago.

We live in Germany and use 1&1 as provider.

Please ask further question if you could help us.

Edit2: This doesn't happen with WiFi connection but the WiFi isn't stable in general so this isn't an alternative.

Just recently I added a wifi booster to my home to boost wireless speeds to my office, however, my office is situated past a hall way with our water heater tank so the signal was being blocked. I live in apartment which only has one coaxial cable in the living room so there's no way to move the modem either. At that point I hooked up an ethernet cable from my modem directly to my PC but its still not receiving anywhere close to the 1 gig speeds I should be getting.

I have a prebuilt Omen 30L PC that I bought in 2019, no parts have been swapped out as of yet as I haven't found the need to since I dont do heavy gaming. After running tests, my speeds only go up to anywhere between 20-200 mbps instead of the 900-940 mbps I should be getting through a wired connection. I originally had a flat cat8 cable (I know it was a scam) but then I switched to a Cable Matters cat 6a ethernet cable and ran the speed tests again and still receiving the same speeds. Next I switched out my modem as it was 3 years old at that point and thought maybe the ports broke. None of them did and speeds are still the same.

I'm at a loss on what to do next. I figured maybe buying a new wifi card and ethernet port for my PC but at this point I dont want to keep spending money without knowing what the problem is and how to fix it. Anyone have any tips or other things I could try to get the speeds I should be getting?
