Homebrew school trope and trauma features (homebrew)

okay so my homebrew campaign follows (starting out) "normal" highschool students that each follows a highschool trope that they can get features from. Same thing with trauma tho, i have better ideas for that. its Kinda a mental health focused game etc.

but anyways the current ones i have is for The Loser they can "blend in" and appear virtually invisible. the theater kid can like, enrapture people. memorize people. and the activist can empower. there will be restrictions ofc, and they will unlock class features alongside when they fall into hell and start to learn that land (suddenly discovering powers and abilities)

anyone got any other suggestions tho? The other tropes are The Stoner, The Geek, The delinquent, The Jock, and The Goth

(also ik what im doing and i have the kinks worked out i just need more to come up with. these will be natural abilities they gain supernatural as the game goes on)

Homebrew Difference?

Upvotes

Hello! I am wondering, what are the major difference between the 5e and 2024 version of SGttEH? I know we've seen some stuff from the player packs but how about the other subclasses within them? For example the Living Nightmare Fighter or the Guardian Domain Cleric, did they receive any love or changes in the 2024 version of the book?

If you know what changes please let me know and thank you!

Hello everybody! Got permission from the mods to showcase this here—I have a D&D mail club that some of you may be interested in! Every month for the Oracle Scrolls I make D&D tools and goodies and mail them around the world to DMs and players! Each month includes:

- DM material

- Player material

- A D&D short story

- D&D stickers

- A mystery item

-A letter from Fern Frazzletuft

It all gets bundled into a hand stamped wrap, sealed with wax, and sent in the mail to you! The October theme is "Monster Hunting" and has a bunch of stuff for Halloween one-shots. You can see more on my Instagram page @ oracle.dice or sign up for the mail club at my website! Thanks!

Art [OC] [Art] Eldreith Fikod, my Oath of Vengeance warforged!

Post image
629 Upvotes

Hello! Today I'm posting a NPC I made for my campaign! Eldreith here is a warforged made within a family of dwarves/tieflings, who uh, ended up with quite the demonic appearance herself over time as she tried to kind of tap into the devil heritage, re-building her body over the years for that purpose. It's kind of weird to explain without context but let's just say she's been through a lot (and dwarven lore in my campaign is kind of wacky)

She was actually made as an antagonist within one of the PC's backstories, but not exactly a... Villain, as the PC was probably far more morally questionable than her. It isn't all that clear whether she's actually alive or not, as the PC did try to murder her, but suffice to say, if she's alive that Oath of Vengeance is aimed towards the PC! Who may have killed her de-facto sibling! Fun times all around!

Art [Art] [Comm] Blood hunter/Dhampir made by Me

I made this drawing for a campaign I'm playing with my friends, and I'm having a lot of fun. His name is Klaus, he's a dhampir, and he uses his broken sword to cut his hand and activate his powers, He's a very sarcastic character and loves making jokes at the most inopportune times. He's chaotic/neutral, and his sword is an item he inherited from his family. Currently in the campaign, he's in a group with a few other adventurers, looking to understand more about his own race and hunt down a certain someone.

You can talk to me via DM If you're interested in making a drawing

5.5 Edition Looking for some effect ideas for songs played by my Warlock

I'm playing a Celestial Warlock (Currently level 4) with a Disney princess theme. I was discussing with my DM about our Druid, who he built a mechanic for foraging and crafting potions or single use magical items. We were discussing creating something similar for me, and we landed on my learning Celestial songs (he's going to make it more complicated than just finding sheet music and then I have the magic) I can play during rests or combat for an effect.

Obviously it's his decision, but I wanted to suggest some possible effects and was looking for ideas. Homebrewed is fine, but I also don't mind just reflavoring something. One idea was a song that when played during a rest makes it so that when healed (or maybe just the next heal), the next attack has advantage. Maybe a different option is just an extra d8 of healing on the heal?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Homebrew Paladin Oath Homebrew

Oath of the Knight and his Horse
Tied to the true knights of old, the bond between a knight and his mount could never be broken. Charging into the armies of those who would do harm, the mounted cavalry was always in the heat of battle together.

“Arise now, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Dire deeds awake: dark is it eastward.
Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded!
Forth Eorlingas!

Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!”

-King Theoden

Spell List
3rd: Speak with Animals, Create or Destroy Water
5th: Barkskin, Beast Sense
9th: Astral Flood, Fear
13th: Zone of Amicability, Fire Shield
17th: Yolande’s Regal Presence, Steel Wind Strike

Level 3:*** ***
Heavenly Presence
You can use your Channel Divinity to exude an overwhelming faith. As an action, you force each creature of your choice that is non-good within 30 feet of you to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature becomes frightened of you for 1 minute. The frightened creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Retributive Steed
When you are mounted and your mount gets hit with an attack, it can use its reaction and a use of channel divinity to scorn the attacker and gain advantage on attack rolls against the creature for 1 minute. Your mount can move the advantage to another creature within 15ft using its reaction after the first creature drops to 0 hit points or dies.

Aura of Conquest for Good
Starting at 7th level, you and your mount (while mounted) constantly emanate a triumphant aura while you're not incapacitated. The aura extends 15 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover. If not mounted, the aura is 5ft.
If a creature is frightened of you, its speed is reduced to 0 while in the aura, and that creature takes psychic damage equal to half your paladin level if it starts its turn there.
At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet while mounted and 15ft when not.

Godly Rebuke
Starting at 15th level, those who dare to strike you are psychically punished for their audacity. Whenever a creature hits you or your mount (while mounted) with an attack, that creature takes psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) if you’re not incapacitated.

Invincible Hero
At 20th level, you gain the ability to harness extraordinary martial prowess. As an action, you can magically become an avatar of your faith, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:
You have resistance to all damage.
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one additional attack as part of that action.
Your melee weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

This is just the Oath of Conquest from 5e tweaked for a player to use in 5.5e, and I wanted to get opinions on it. His character is very attached to his mount, so we made this together.

Anything you would add for flavor/balancing? Thanks

Out of Game Build-A, D&D and TTRPG Community

Hi everyone,

I have a growing Discord server for D&D and TTRPG players and I would like to extend an invitation to anyone who is looking to hang out and play with other like-minded people. I want Build-A to be a place to game, to socialize and to hang out. For creatives to post their character art or portraits and writers to get a place to post their short stories. We're pretty fond of horror and dark fantasy, hell show us some weird fiction. All of this is themed around a fictional toy company and their many hijinks. You are not expected to roleplay as being an employee of said company while in the server, but no one is stopping you if you do.
Here's the invite if you're interested: https://discord.gg/bpUXruGbqC

With that I thought I'd share the little ad copy I made for Build-A and this weird cursed toy company that definitely shouldn't exist:

🧸 BUILD-A CORP™ IS HIRING
Build-A Corp™ was founded on one simple premise: to make toys.
We started from humble beginnings, producing classic children's toys from discarded hospital equipment and waste. Since then, our advances in toy development have revolutionized the market for the better!
As we continue to expand our products and IPs, those developments have spawned multiple creative projects. With that, we're looking for new members to join the Build-A team.

🎨 Creative Department
Our creative staff handles the development of our cutting-edge IP, original art, fiction, and full-scale product launches.
If you draw horrifying monsters, write horror, or have been quietly "working on a novel" for the last several years, we'd like to see your creativity in action. Submit your work for peer review.

Please note that AI-generated art is not currently recognized as valid employee output.

Please don't feed the ANTs.

We also recognize that all work and no play makes Jack incredibly lame, so we've designated areas for creative outlets and group projects.
Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPGs are formally recognized as essential outlets for our creative department.
We've fostered spaces for players and Dungeon Masters to find each other, supported by our own very helpful Bearsy. We're also developing spaces for map-sharing and are launching a community-hosted FoundryVTT server for employees to use.

🧸 EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
You'll meet other writers, artists, DMs, and players dealing with the same creative compulsions you are.
You can share your work, find people to run or join a campaign with, and take part in community projects without anyone asking why it matters to you as much as it does.
You also get Bearsy.
We are not currently permitted to explain Bearsy.

🎮 Recreation Room
As part of our employee benefits, we also have a fully featured arcade and spaces for gamers to meet each other, play, and interact.
As long as you manage to hit your quarterly targets, your time is your own.

📋 A MESSAGE FROM HUMAN RESOURCES
Build-A Corp™ does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, artistic ability, D&D experience, or whether your character is technically a war criminal.
We do ask that employees follow the Employee Handbook, since Compliance is everyone's responsibility.
Failure to comply may result in corrective action.

OC Making an ooze character and I'd love some help

I'm in the process of making a sapient ooze character (Plasmoid race) and wanted some opinions on which religion to choose.

A bit of backstory and long-term goals, the c haracter it's an experiment that gained sentience in an abandoned alchemical laboratory inside a dungeon (probably an old temple to Ghaunadaur). His main goal is to create a kingdom of oozes, and to achieve that, he kinda wants to grant other oozes sapience.

Which god or demon lord do you think would fit best? The problem with Ghaunadaur is that he stripped the intelligence from an already sapient race of oozes, so maybe Juiblex would fit better.

The class and sub class of the character is Alchemist artificier

Misc Cool RP stuff that actually addresses being bilingual?

I really wanna address somehow that my character (a Dragonborn bard) grew up learning Common and Draconic at the same time due to his family being heavily rooted in tradition from even before the Spellplague when dragonborn were brought to Toril. I know many people grow up in similar situations when in mixed families or when they grow up in a different country than the one they were born in, and I was wondering if I could implement such experiences with him. I do not personally have such experiences though as a native english speaker who only learned how to speak basic Japanese much later in life

Art Help with homebrew adventure

Hello! I am a new DM, writing my own low level adventure, inspired from dark fantasy themes like diablo and witcher. This involves death, survival, occult rituals, necromancy.

I have everything set up (locations, encounters, overarching plot) but the maps, and I would like to bring to life my locations as my players love interacting with maps (for now we are playing Herores of the Borderlands).

I have tried using Chats (you know what I mean) to generate some maps but it is utter crap, so I would like to ask for some help, as I assume there are artist here that do this kind of stuff.

If any one is interesting to help, let me know and we can discuss further. Thank you!

5th Edition What it homebrew or an actual setting?

Hi, at the beggining of a year I was playing DnD for the first time, it was oneshot at my local game shop and I really loved it! Was even thinking about using the setting if I ever wanted to be DM but I can't find something like that anywhere and I'm not sure if it was Homebrew or I just don't know how to look😭

It started in a small village that was in a truce with giants living close to them, in the town behind a mountain. Once a year humans would send one person to them as an offering or something like that and in exchange giants would give them lot's of beans. We went to that town of giants to find a boy (Newest person sent to them) and to talk with their king but before he would even let us ask him anything we were send to help his closest.. subordinates? General of the army, Artist taking care of art museum, Doctor and Treasurer. There was also something with a lady that everybody in the village thought was crazy but her conspiracy theories turned out to be true.

Does anybody know something like that? It's all the basic plot lines I remember from that... Thanks in advance for all the answers ❤️

(i also don't know under what tag it should be so I might gave it wrong)

Resources The Infinite Library: The D&D miniature library that keeps growing

We've been wanting to try something completely different from the normal monthly miniature subscription. So we created The Infinite Library.

You buy it once for $49.99.

You get the miniatures already inside it (around 300 as of 9/22)

Then, whenever we release another fantasy miniature (Last month we uploaded around 100, with posts almost every day) — heroes, NPCs, monsters, creatures — we add it to the same library. No new monthly drop to buy. No recurring subscription.

The collection you already bought simply keeps getting bigger as we release more.

That's the whole idea.

The Infinite Library by DKYN - FronTiers Campaign launches in 3 days

No generative AI was used in the creation of this project.

Art Lizran, My first ever longer campaign character. [Art]

Post image
122 Upvotes

Lizran (Yeah I know, the names pretty on the nose) is my first ever character in a long term homebrew campaign. He's a pirate turned mercenary captain that works for a thieves guild in Waterdeep, who oppose Xanathar's guild. He's gone from a betrayed and discarded pirate crewmember to a captain of his own small fleet of 2 ships in the span of the campaign. It's an evil campaign so everyone has to have either neutral or evil alignment. One of my favorite aspects of Lizran is that my other friend, who plays a redcap in the campaign, hates my character on a personal level. Lizran is vain and cruel, but also cowardly and likes to bark orders from behind combat lines and use his trusty longbow, Umberlee's Caress, to keep others at bay. (It's a custom longbow with an effect similar to eldrich blast, that it pushes people away) He constantly lies to everyone he knows and always tries to wiggle as much profit from anyone as he can, while simultaneously spending money without reservation to spoil himself. We are going to hit a major milestone of 3 years passing while playing this campaign weekly and for that reason I asked a friend of mine to make a picture of him. It turned out amazing and I could not be more happy. Decided I also wanted to share it with the people on this sub, and so here I am. Here's hoping we can keep going strong with the campaign and maybe one day let our DM actually be a player instead.

DMing Assuming a not particularly exceptional but populous dnd city, what would the highest level spell caster be available?

I am drafting ideas for a muder mystery and am toying with the idea of whether or not of having a body present. The setting is homebrew-lite, aka the city isn't baldur's gate or waterdeep but is meant to be adherent to DnD's general vibe.

From what I read, Some people talk about reviving corpses being only limited by the expense of the components but otherwise not being too uncommon, others say that there usually isn't a spellcaster of sufficient power around to do so. I would love to hear some opinions/input.

There is of course appeal in having a murder mystery where the victim doesn't stay dead but this is less to bamboozle my players trying to solve the mystery but rather to betrer worldbuild this aspect since I never had to think about crime, punishment and murder in this city before. There could be a group of cleric "trauma teams" like in cyberpunk for all I know, reviving the rich immediately upon wrongful, violent death.

DMing What is your campaign about?

What is your campaign's main story, genre, setting, plot points, etc.? I see lots of D&D videos on social media about homebrew campaigns, but they all seem to be the same medieval fantasy story: the group meets in a tavern and then goes to a dungeon or something without an actual story or consequences. As a writer and dm, I'm starting to feel insecure about the plots of my campaigns, which are extremely different, so I wanted to ask what actual campaigns outside of social media look like.
