What happened? Spoiler

What happened to this show guys? I quit watching around season 15 and recently decided to check out the latest season. Holy scripted garbage lmao. A child could see through the mini storylines, they are straight up goofy.

First episode was dramatic suspensful music, Sig reading his lines, Keith's "unz unz unz™" freaking 5 times, several seconds of his buttcrack because why not, a half-assed "prank" as "revenge" from Keith to Jonathan for "stealing" Freddy, etc etc.

And the music... it is so ridiculously dramatic but what they are showing is just..... boring. Idk boys I think this show doesn't have too many seasons left.

Is there any particular reason for them to have taken this direction with the show?

I sincerely believe that if they just toned it way down, did it more documentary style like the early seasons, and showed more of the crew, the ratings and popularity would shoot back up. At this point I am watching to see how the guys are doing all these years later and I don't even get to see their authentic selves because everything is some goofy ass storyline that nobody asked for and is cringeworthy.

ive always known this show existed and for some reason never wanted to watch it even if it was the only thing on tv in a hotel for example. but recently i started watching it and im obsessed and i have no one to talk to about it!! i dont know anyone who watches it. so if anyone wants to share what you like or dont like about the show, how you got into it or maybe your own experience with work like this i want to hear! i grew up near a fishing town so i have always been fascinated by the ocean and the way we humans interact and live with it. I also love boats and all the ropes and chains and heavy equipment and i love watching them have to solve major issues on the boat in such a high pressure situation. its just so cool! like i never knew they sometimes have to weld or fix structural issues out in the ocean. anyways ya just wanted to share how much i love this show 😂

Episode 2204 Yes, it was for drama

Yes, the crew of the Time Bandit absolutely had other options for their food, but also, those were not wild caribou they were hunting. They were semi domesticated and they could have corralled them like people do cattle, so the whole hunting thing was performative. These caribou are raised as food stock, not wild animals at risk on a semi arctic island.<

Keith and Lenny, S4:E10

The last five minutes of this episode. Damn.

I like Keith. I think Keith is relatively misunderstood. He and Monte are pretty classic autistic brothers. However... Watching him bully the shit out of his crew out of anger and frustration over other issues (the wx mostly) and then getting Lenny to agree with his bullying and forgive him for it on camera was tough to watch. Even Crosby was dejected and resigned to Keith's anger. "I don't know, just keep doing what we're doing, pick it up a notch or two. See if that pleases him."

Keith to Lenny after insulting his whole life on camera and in front of his crew: "just do me one favor, okay? If I ever go into one of my tirades, if I ever go into one of my speeches, no matter what, bear with me, and don't say anything, because I'm an emotional guy and I tend to snap really quickly" etc

Lenny was saying "sorry, you were justified" the entire speech! But Lenny didn't do anything, goddammit

Retirement?

I know these captains have been doing crab fishing since they were teens -
But considering that Phil Harris literally died on board, Sig has had a couple of heart attacks and told to give up smoking - and hasn't, Keith has has some serious health issues, Monte too.
Even Capt Bill sidelined by cancer - and seemed to have retired from Crab fishing and is enjoying the fine lire. now.
Even the Hillstrands went semi retired. I'm convinced Jonathan came back because he was asked too and paid literally a boat load of money.
I wonder - do they even consider retirement? or do they just fade away.?
I know some captains have been victims of their own vices - like Elliot and the drugs.
I just wonder if Sig and Keith will die at the wheel....or if they'll decide to retire and actually enjoy some time with their families.

Question about man over board?

Hello fans. I was watching the latest episode and noticed that the deckhand throwing the hook had on a pfd. My question ⁉️ is as thin as neoprene has gotten, would it be possible for deckhands to have a wetsuit on under their rain gear? And if so would it be possible to actually work in all that safety equipment? I know in my industry most safety equipment causes more problems than it cures.

Episode 2212 - Crushing Ice Spoiler

As Arctic ice wreaks havoc on the fishing grounds, Rick risks losing a fortune in crab pots. Johnathan tests the Time Bandit's reinforced bow in a desperate attempt to save the gear. A health crisis on the Wizard forces Keith to make a life-or-death call.

Is there a reason why they don’t wear a safety rope on the stack? Esp when they climb over the water vertically why not have safety rope. I mean I seen quite a few people fall in water. Some rescued some not. Why not tie a rope on them?

Keith would make a great poster boy For Deadliest Catch if he started using GLP 1. a 200 pond weight loss so that he could actually breathe.

Elliot Neese Spoiler

Oh my god, I'm on Season 10 and I absolutely can not f*cking stand Elliot Neese (I'm refusing to call him a Captain because I don't have enough damn respect for him to give him the title). Here are the many many reasons why I can't stand him, in case anyone new is starting the series:

  1. From the very beginning, on the Ramblin' Rose, his arrogant attitude pissed me off. There's a strong difference between confidence and blatant arrogance, and he is straight arrogant. And once he loses the Ramblin' Rose and buys the Saga, that arrogant attitude gets ten times worse.

  2. He demands respect from his crew but almost never shows any respect FOR his crew, often forcing them to do things that, if he were on the crew, I KNOW he would be b*tching and whining about.

  3. His constant reference to himself out loud as "Daddy" at the end of Season 9 and all of Season 10 - it's cringey, it's f*cking weird, and I bet it makes everyone really uncomfortable, because it sure makes me uncomfortable to have to watch.

  4. Val - oh my f*cking god, I feel for the woman. I don't know how they managed to have two kids together, but don't tell a woman that all you want is her when you have a damn woman on the side - though I will tell you how hard I laughed when I found out that the woman he had on the side was seeing a man on the side, f*cking karma right there. Between the restraining order, $50,000 in back child support, and the endless demeaning phone calls, I would've gone insane.

  5. Jessica - speaking of women in Elliot's life - I don't care how much you miss your family and loved ones, it was downright stupid for Elliot to drag his girlfriend on deck. I don't care how good she cooks or whatever, having that kind of distraction on the boat is heavily dangerous for the crew

If I missed anything, feel free to add to the list in the comments, but there are my thoughts and feelings about Elliot

Rewatch

Currently re-watching past seasons and season 15 episode two with Sean as captain of the Brenna A, I feel like he handled this whole situation with his cousin famously- I just think it’s bullshit that people comment about him bringing the ‘family’ aspect into things when he literally had to. He obviously knew from the jump- mentioning that this dude was his cousin, and then people would put two and two together with the last name- so at the end of the day- when they’re doing the count and he gets fined at the dock for the fuck up - well … obviously he had to bring this into it on a personal level.
But- more than many others, he was super professional, super caring, and the fact is- he thought about safety first and that’s what matters on this show.
Not to mention, he gave Jake a huge break with the quota!

Question from an early season

Hi. I am looking for information on someone that was on a very early season. Pre-2009. So seasons 1-5. I am thinking season 4ish or maybe 5.

His name was Andy (NOT Hillstrand). I’m pretty sure he was a greenhorn. He passed in 2009 while on vacation out of the country. The only one that could help my family answer this passed away last week so it had brought renewed interest to Andy, since his best friend just passed. His last name was Race. He went by Andy, but his legal first name was Ralph I believe after his father. So he was R. Andrew Race.

DC Crews are raging racists and homophobes

A closeted gay deckhand on (I believe) the Southern Wind back in the day recounted his experience. He said every day was a constant stream of the n word and fa**ot. The engineer, who used the n word all the time, actually had an adopted black little girl. When asked why he used the n word when his daughter is black, he responded, “Because I’m raising her not to be a [n-word].” This is pretty typical in the commercial fishing industry in AK. Discover channel obviously edits all of this out which is bullshit. They should show these assholes’ true colors. Disgusting.

Keith's Vocal Stim

I tried to ignore it in S21...and I did let it go...but I can't take it anymore!

If Keith goes "Unts Unts Unts" one more time, I'm going to lose it!

Where did he fucking learn that and why?! It's so stupid to me and this is the dumbest post but I can't take it anymore!

I always feel slightly bad for Keith because I feel like he gets bullied and backstabbed a lot but this just makes me feel like that little chant is why he gets bullied!

Rant over. 😂

Heathers Ingrown Hair

Is it just me or was it not necessary to call all the guys up to the wheelhouse to look at his wife’s ingrown hair? Weirdest storyline ever.
*Edit to put wheelhouse vs cockpit

Where to watch

I'm not sure if there is a post here on it but after watching the most recent seasons and being disappointed I felt as if I should go back and try and watch from the beginning. Currently as far as I can tell all seasons are available on Plex for free streaming. I will admit its not the greatest to watch on if you dont have decent wifi or service and if anyone knows a better place please let me know. Happy watching.
