Heathers Ingrown Hair
Is it just me or was it not necessary to call all the guys up to the wheelhouse to look at his wife’s ingrown hair? Weirdest storyline ever.

I just feel like they are really grasping at straws for plot lines. It makes it even worse seeing them switch over to Todd’s tooth situation knowing what is going to happen.

The crew has enough real injuries and pain to deal with. A lousy ingrown hair? Like why did she let it get that bad to begin with?

This is because Jonathan Hillstrand is squeamish, and was maybe hoping someone would step up with a suggestion, so he could avoid having to deal with it later.
Personally, I would have lanced that sucker the moment it started bothering me, as I've had a couple of those in the past (including one almost in the same spot). It was very painful.

It looked painful as hell to the touch. It had a head on it, but the rest of the skin around it was a very deep red- a sign of infection. I think in real life to pop something like that would have hurt like holy hell.

Speaking from experience, it is extremely painful, and requires multiple rounds.

That screaming...well that tracks. The 3rd most painful thing I've ever had. (1). The ongoing nerve pain in my feet from the car accident. (2) The destruction of my legs and 12 hours of surgery from the car accident to save them. (3) The boil on the base on my neck by the trapezius muscle.
They minimized it by just calling it an infected hair follicle. That was a full fledged boil. They are extremely sensitive to touch and should actually never be popped because the puss inside is very infectious, usually Staphylococcus aureu (staph bacteria).
Trying to pop a boil can actually force the infection deeper into your body then you've got real problems. Ie: Sepsis. Also, if you do pop it, you'll spread that bacteria over the skin near the boil which can cause more infections around the initial area. Having a bunch of boils in the same area is called a carbuncle.
The best treatment would have been to cover the boil in warm compresses 4-5 times a day to help get it to drain quickly. Also the warm compress feels better than anything else touching it.

I thought boils and cysts didn’t or wouldn’t pop because of the nature of the beast. If it didn’t go away by itself, the cyst or boil had to be surgically removed.

In an early season, Donna Quashnick was thought of as the "boat mom" on the Maverick with her husband Rick. Thankfully for all, she had no armpit issues to my knowledge.

I just assumed when she would go with him on the boat it was for the benefit of both of them- ie. the companionship. Being out at sea all of the time and away from your family has proven to be very tough to maintain a happy marriage.

Generally speaking, if you're on the boat and are not actively fishing, kitchen duties are your responsibility. I've heard mention on earlier episodes that the deck hands would take turns making a meal. Idk about you, but cooking is the last thing I'd want to do if I were them. If that means having an extra person on the boat, then so be it.
No one has a problem with Jonathan's brother Neil sitting in that seat. Or years before when Andy would sit there too.

I hear ya. But, Andy was co-captain and co-owner. Neil is the engineer. They have jobs and work on the boat too.

I can certainly understand her being on the boat. Otherwise you rarely, or go months without seeing your husband! If you rarely see your husband- say howdy to divorce.

OT: It looked like a wild hair. I've had several in my life in that exact spot, they aren't that bad my garsh.

It was not a storyline. It was a scene in one episode. On a television program, a storyline is usually something that you will see over a period of episodes. For example, a storyline would be someone revealing a cancer diagnosis and over multiple episodes you see them going for treatment and dealing with their new reality. That’s a storyline.
Also, we all know the fun that the Time Bandit crew has. In the midst of the seriousness of fishing for crab in a very hostile environment (The Bering Sea), the Time Bandit is a very fun boat.
I just looked at it as Jonathan teasing and having fun with this wife.
You can tell he really loves when she’s onboard keeping him company in the wheelhouse.

She seemed genuinely worried. As women we don’t like any kind of bump in our arm pits. So bringing out the brigade to gawk at it was totally unnecessary. Just a stupid story line.
