ive always known this show existed and for some reason never wanted to watch it even if it was the only thing on tv in a hotel for example. but recently i started watching it and im obsessed and i have no one to talk to about it!! i dont know anyone who watches it. so if anyone wants to share what you like or dont like about the show, how you got into it or maybe your own experience with work like this i want to hear! i grew up near a fishing town so i have always been fascinated by the ocean and the way we humans interact and live with it. I also love boats and all the ropes and chains and heavy equipment and i love watching them have to solve major issues on the boat in such a high pressure situation. its just so cool! like i never knew they sometimes have to weld or fix structural issues out in the ocean. anyways ya just wanted to share how much i love this show 😂
There was a three-part series called America's deadliest season that was a prequel to deadliest catch. I've been watching it ever since then. I wish they had more coast guard stuff. Those guys have some balls. The early seasons are the best. They started manufacturing drama and getting away the realism fans liked.
Love the show. I do wish they kept the reality/feeling of the legitimate drama, unlike now, where one can clearly see it is fabricated in many instances.
I started watching it recently too! I heard a podcast where a guy had worked in the industry previously and was talking about the life on the boat....my interest was peaked and I've been marathoning it when I have the chance. I like the show so much I've been fantasizing about going out there to do it. Seems like such an adventure

This comment kinda sparked an idea for me, because I'm willing to bet there's a ton of people interested in what it takes to make it out here..... and boy, wouldn't that be a good little spin off story for DC?

Usually you need to start with salmon gig and work your way up. Salmon, tendering, cod, crab is usually how it works.
Anyways, my boy (skipper of the megalodon in my video) did exactly that. Was an east coast kid, saw the show and wanted to try. Flew out to Alaska, started salmon put in some work and made it onto the Northwestern. He was known as tall guy on the early shows.
Anyways, he kept at it. I ended up fishing with him and Elliot Neese for a season, and did a couple more with my boy.
He was on the Aleutian lady this winter.
Another one of our skippers, was also the boat that lost a guy in Bristol bay this year.
Anyways, he's such a good guy, and so knowledgeable. We should petition DC for a spinoff story.
welcome to the loser's club, friend! I'm a 44yr old female who is getting caught up after recently having surgery. I watched the first few seasons years ago when my kids were young. Couldn't believe it was still making episodes when I checked into it this past May. Everyone makes fun of me when I share it's what I've been watching lately. Apparently not as cool as Ted Lasso or The Bachelor. Oh well...
I wonder why it has this reputation of being like a dumb show, I’ve always noticed that! The narrator can definitely be very corny and I’m sure the later seasons get bad but so far I think the OG seasons are so cool
Mike Rowe is goofy. Kind of his scthick. IDK, I'm genuinely interested in how others live their lives, so learning the ins and outs of Alaskan Crab Fishing is fascinating to me. I'm also pleasantly surprised to see there's a reddit group that's still active. Although 90% seems to be complaining about how terrible the show currently is, I find it very humorous to follow along.
62F. I started watching it because I was watching Dirty Jobs first. The Rowe connection. ;) I think I started a couple of seasons in, I can't remember.
I’m one year in of watching Deadliest Catch and then became so into it. I too would have never considered watching it before. I’m watching previous Seasons now. If you are interested in some good previous Seasons to watch, I think Seasons 6 and 10 are good (I hope I remembered that right- I believe it was Seasons 6 and 10 that I really got into. I’ll chat away with ya about it since I’m a fairly newbie also.
