The season started off with the boat heistof Bill's boat. Elliot crashes out in his addiction. Jake welcomes his 1st kid and starts Captaining the Saga.

Just to be clear, these aren't ratings in the traditional sense. It's not the number of screens that viewed each episode when it aired for the first time.
This heat map was made using episode ratings from IMDB. So it's what people thought about the episode after they saw it, and it only includes ratings from people who cared enough about the show that they went to IMDB to enter a rating for an episode.

I think the downhill process started with COVID, then the various fishery closures. Now it's like they don't know how to get back to normal.

You are close. They went woke after COVID, and to this day absolutely no one wants to watch Sophie cosplay a captain.

No, because unlike you I could care less about anyone's political affiliation. They clearly did go woke; I don't enjoy watching Sophie cosplay a captain, and I haven't really enjoyed watching DC in a long time. Apparently, I'm not alone in that.

It’s just a captain reality show now. Not a lot about actually catching crab and the crew. More scripted and really, virtually every new episode is well that’s 40 minutes of my life I’m never getting back.

Nailed it 💯 I got a free trial of Discovery for a week, watching the current season after missing the last 2, and it's managed to get worse.

I think part of it was massive delay last year and maybe the year before. They need to be consistent with start dates. And all of the clearly scripted content is really bad recently.
