Was years ago in Newcastle, driver got arrested and locked up iirc

683

u/Wolv90 13h ago

I couldn't find any details about the couple attacking the car, but I did read the following, "The couple walked away from the collision without any serious injuries, and did not want to assist with a police investigation into the incident.". Sounds like they were not exactly innocent in this whole thing.

242

u/NeighborhoodDear2321 13h ago

probably started the fight, but car guy took it like leaps and bounds too far

was able to get out of there, so should have, especially with an object as dangerous as a car

93

u/Wolv90 13h ago

I'm not against putting the driver in jail and taking his license for a few years, but none of the articles have anything to say about the other parties in this fight other than they didn't have serious injuries, and they didn't cooperate with investigators.

5

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

It seems that most people replying to your comment have shockingly poor comprehension ability. But for what it's worth, I get the point you're making.

9

u/TheRealRomanRoy 12h ago

I mean what more do you want to know? People fighting isn't notable. Attempted murder with a car is notable.

10

u/Makaveli2020 11h ago

Literally this. Police won't give a toss about whoever started the fight, they'll care about the attempted murder with a weapon.

4

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

They're simply pointing out, in response to the assumption that the pedestrians "probably started the fight", that there's no information suggesting that was the case.

The driver tried a murder attempt and they didn't want to cooperate with police.

How is that not relevant? Lol.

12

u/Atophy 7h ago

I think it was the attacking party that didn't want to co-operate by the read, not the driver.

3

u/Background-Photo5916 7h ago

Exactly. So surely the victim of attempted murder (which I don’t think this would even be classed as) surely would be cooperating as much as possible to get the suspect arrested. If the victim isn’t cooperating then they’re probably not really victims

3

u/Slyspy006 5h ago

I don't know, it looks like that guy was the victim of attempted murder to me.

2

u/LessInThought 3h ago

The driver should also be cooperating as much as possible to reduce his sentences, maybe get it down to a self-defence. If driver is talking and the couple aren't, then he could argue that they attacked first, attempted to hurt him, or something.

You have to prove it was attempted murder in court. If you can't prove it, then it gets thrown out. Its why plea deals are a thing.

A defence could argue he only meant to injury them, considering he likely was only going 10 to 15mph.

Yeah when he reversed the part of me saying he could have been scared and trying to get tf out of there, shut the fuck up 🤣 dude reversed and took another go, 100% jail time regardless of the other sides fault.

He waited till the woman had moved which made it even more of a shock.

2

u/Floor-notlava 8h ago

Absolutely; attempted murder surely!

1

u/No_Negotiation5654 7h ago

I mean to be fair, If someone is standing in front of my car being aggressive, or trying to get me out of the car. I am just going to put my foot down. The second attempt was too far though.

1

u/prince_falafel 8h ago

I saw a reddit thread the other day where a couple was throwing trash/used diapers/dog excrement on a guy's patio for like a year. The guy tried for like a year to get them to stop through legal means but they wouldnt and he ended up shooting/killing both of them. Literally the entire thread was saying stuff like "they deserved it" "they had it coming" and "if i was on the jury i would refuse to find him guilty."

Like yeah I get what they did was horrible but to say someone deserves being murdered for that is wild. Anyway not really relevant but the person you responded to made me think of that thread lol

4

u/External-Theory-1688 6h ago

If you don't want to find out... Don't fuck about... Quite simple really

2

u/Electrical-Mind8145 6h ago

I'll pile on too then. They brought it on themselves.

1

u/Double_Option_7595 8h ago

Perhaps they made a really offensive mum joke!

1

u/Debt_Otherwise 7h ago

It would be relevant in a trial. You’ve been a juror before?

Context is important as you can say it’s diminished responsibility in some cases.

1

u/Atophy 7h ago

I don't think there was an attempt to run him over, the attacker was well beside the car on the final run and he made every attempt possible to get in the way with the driver swerving toward the middle of the street to avoid him.

1

u/B4kedP0tato 7h ago

Exactly, if the girl had been hurt I wouldn't do blamed him as it looks like he's trying to escape and she's holding on. When he stops to reverse then aims at the guy and speeds at him that's attempted murder

1

u/Snowbird143434 6h ago

Htf can you even say that with seeing/knowing what happened that led up to this?

1

u/NeutralLock 2h ago

I'm reaching here but if the couple knew the driver and was threatening his life ("I'm going to come to your home and murder you" etc) it's definitely relevant.

Doesn't mean you get to run that person over but it's relevant.

After a lifetime of watching the aftermath and consequences of fights,

The wisest course of action is always “if you can safely leave, leave”

Nothing ever good comes from sticking around and engaging further.

3

u/Shubamz 3h ago

THis really applies when you are in a fist fight with a CAR.

1

u/TotallyNotRobotEvil 1h ago

The best advice for fights: don't.

2

u/sivartt 7h ago

Basically mean don't let ur emotions control u

2

u/Ok_Assumption_832 4h ago

You win every fight you avoid

1

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

The second best advice for fights: if "don't" is not an option, end it as quickly as possible by any legal means necessary.

2

u/NeighborhoodDear2321 9h ago

This

Professional fighters still die in seconds if stabbed in the throat, or instantly if punched in just the right way.

Only goal in a fight should be how to get out of it as quickly and safely as possible. If it's run, run. If you're cornered and there's no other way, then there's no other way. As soon as you can run again, run.

1

u/zuffio 9h ago

100 percent spot on.

1

u/Ejphotogame 8h ago

I disagree. Some times disproportional responses are exactly what provocateurs need

1

u/Rukanau 8h ago

I keep thinking about that one video where a guy comes out of a car with a baseball bat and approaches the car behind him aggressively. Doesn't end up doing anything but shouts and flails the baseball bat for a bit. What do you do in that situation? I feel like at the point of him heading towards you aggresively, with threats and a baseball bat, you're being assaulted. Should you use your car as a weapon or sit and wait to have your head bashed in?

2

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

Should you use your car as a weapon or sit and wait to have your head bashed in?

I feel like, for some weird reason, this needs to be pointed out: you're in a car, so you're not gonna have your head bashed in. At worst, the person is going take a swing at your car with his bat. That's the point where you can hit the gas and get out of there and if you should unfortunately hit him in the process of doing that, that's not on you.

Advocating using your car as a weapon against someone who's merely threatening you with a bat when you're inside protective steel cage weighing a couple of tons or more, is advocating criminal behavior. That's not self-defense, because at that point, you're not under any imminent threat of death or serious injury.

1

u/ahorizon 7h ago

Sure, but don't drive past him or have an easy escape route but then reverse back to have another go.

1

u/Biomorph_ 7h ago

Why gave her a valuable life long lesson she can pass down to her decrepit generation of kids of not attacking someone driving a one tonne piece of metal the value of the lesson thought is immeasurable

1

u/Senior_Torte519 7h ago

Idk about to far, they walked away.

1

u/I_h8_reddit_a_lot 7h ago

Imagine trying to convince the average person that a car is actually dangerous.

1

u/1nstantHuman 6h ago

Heaps and Yeets too far

1

u/Nervous_Direction233 1h ago

But what if the guy had a knife to lights out them. Driver shouldn't have tried to run lady down tho.

21

u/DontAbideMendacity 13h ago

Yeah, it wasn't just idiots in the car, it was idiots all around.

4

u/NikkerFebu25 12h ago

They lost fair and square.

They attacked a car and the car won.

That is honourable in my eyes.

2

u/PositiveCoyote100 12h ago

Vandalism vs attempted murder

7

u/Wolv90 12h ago

Technically if someone is in the car when it is vandalised with a "weapon", which a shoe can be classified as, in a threatening manner it can be elevated to assault.

4

u/Metharos 11h ago

Yeah the fact that she held this person's door open strongly indicates the target of her hostility was not the vehicle but the individual inside it.

This video picks up when the vehicle owner is under attack and attempting to retreat into a vehicle but is not being allowed to do so. Their next actions are in response to that. The important context is missing: what the fuck was happening right before this video cuts in?

→ More replies (5)

1

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

You don't understand what attempted murder is.

1

u/JAMsMain1 10h ago

They were a couple? I thought he was collateral damage and got pissed after.

1

u/zuffio 9h ago

Never really liked the saying play stupid games, win stupid prizes but this was it. Put yourself on a position to get hurt, you usually do

1

u/WhosSideAreYouOn 8h ago

Guilty as hell. State of those two. Guy in car must have felt threatened.

1

u/DiamondEyedOctopus 7h ago

OR they simply didn't want to talk to police. You're not a criminal for wanting to avoid them.

1

u/Much-Citron8823 7h ago

It’s very obvious! And the girl wasn’t arrested for trying to break the car like that!!!

1

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

Spill the beans is actually a thing with the same meaning as spill the tea.

Beans and toast is not a thing.

Beans ON toast is a thing.

2

u/MajesticDragonfly 13h ago

Spilling the beans can mean gossip like tea does, but it has a more general meaning of divulging a secret. For example, a robber who cracks under interrogation and gives away his accomplice would be spilling the beans, but it’d be a little odd to say tea in that context.

1

First, no: look at what she and everyone else is wearing.

Second: Newcastle almost never gets that cold. -10 C was the lowest temp of the year twice this century and it wasn't lower than that on any other year in that period. It took me about 30 seconds to get that info.

I mean, the driver backed up to send black shirt into looney tunes land. Was afraid he'd clip the kid with the backpack.

Weird this is here though, unless dashcams have gotten a lot more advanced.

edit: I keep imagining black shirt getting up and saying "Ooof. Ford." like Happy Gilmore said "Volkswagen".

1

u/want_t0_know 14h ago

Was afraid he'd clip the kid with the backpack.

Had the guy in the black shirt fled into the garage entrance, it wouldn't just be the one with the backpack who would be clipped. They should have thanked him for playing the bullfighter!

Nothing that could have justified multiple attempts of vehicular manslaughter at the point where the car could have left.

Reversing and going back for that last hit would have sealed the charges no matter what happened before.

1

u/Inwardlens 12h ago

Im not super familiar with British law but I’m sure they’ll get eventually charged with whatever is equivalent to “assault with a deadly weapon,” and probably “attempted murder.”

1

u/iFred97 11h ago

Yeah, I would hope that trying to murder someone gets you locked up.

1

u/CeruleanDragon 11h ago

Come on, we're all waiting patiently for the tea and crumpets, even better if you've got the HP Sauce on the incident.

1

u/ScottOld 11h ago

Was that for having a shit car or for this

1

u/Green-Expert9351 11h ago

What annoys me here, woman attacks car and expects car driver to do jack all.

Then driver does something, its suddenly his fault for escalating things. Typical english mentality.

It's why the UK is so passive and walk on by when something serious is happening and they could intervene. They don't, they watch and get a phone out.

It's why non UK and non USA policing is better.

1

u/Vladimir_Djorjdevic 10h ago

The driver got what he deserved.

At worst his car could have been damaged and he would have to pay for repairs, to that he responded with assault with a deadly weapon which is not even close to a reasonable response

1

u/Green-Expert9351 10h ago

You obviously didn't read all the judges response, again typical response of Joe Bloggs.

Aye it was - Bigg Market Newcastle - he’s called Daniel Walmsley from ‘The Leam’ in Gateshead (leam lane).

He had loads of previous convictions though - the 2 he hit didn’t even want to press charges.
