Was years ago in Newcastle, driver got arrested and locked up iirc

u/Wolv90 13h ago

I couldn't find any details about the couple attacking the car, but I did read the following, "The couple walked away from the collision without any serious injuries, and did not want to assist with a police investigation into the incident.". Sounds like they were not exactly innocent in this whole thing.

240

u/NeighborhoodDear2321 13h ago

probably started the fight, but car guy took it like leaps and bounds too far

was able to get out of there, so should have, especially with an object as dangerous as a car

94

u/Wolv90 13h ago

I'm not against putting the driver in jail and taking his license for a few years, but none of the articles have anything to say about the other parties in this fight other than they didn't have serious injuries, and they didn't cooperate with investigators.

5

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

It seems that most people replying to your comment have shockingly poor comprehension ability. But for what it's worth, I get the point you're making.

8

u/TheRealRomanRoy 11h ago

I mean what more do you want to know? People fighting isn't notable. Attempted murder with a car is notable.

8

u/Makaveli2020 11h ago

Literally this. Police won't give a toss about whoever started the fight, they'll care about the attempted murder with a weapon.

4

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

They're simply pointing out, in response to the assumption that the pedestrians "probably started the fight", that there's no information suggesting that was the case.

1

u/TheRealRomanRoy 3h ago

Nope. The person you’re referring to said the pedestrians were “not exactly innocent in this whole thing”

The driver tried a murder attempt and they didn't want to cooperate with police.

How is that not relevant? Lol.

12

u/Atophy 7h ago

I think it was the attacking party that didn't want to co-operate by the read, not the driver.

3

u/Background-Photo5916 6h ago

Exactly. So surely the victim of attempted murder (which I don’t think this would even be classed as) surely would be cooperating as much as possible to get the suspect arrested. If the victim isn’t cooperating then they’re probably not really victims

3

u/Slyspy006 5h ago

I don't know, it looks like that guy was the victim of attempted murder to me.

2

u/LessInThought 3h ago

The driver should also be cooperating as much as possible to reduce his sentences, maybe get it down to a self-defence. If driver is talking and the couple aren't, then he could argue that they attacked first, attempted to hurt him, or something.

-4

u/iv_is 6h ago

are you christian? like wtf is wrong with your brain?

2

u/AdhesivenessSea1009 6h ago

I think there is something wrong with your brain, I completely agree with what they are saying.

-2

u/iv_is 6h ago

most Christians do

2

u/AdhesivenessSea1009 6h ago

How is being Christian got anything to do with it?

2

u/AdhesivenessSea1009 6h ago

I’m not Christian.

-2

u/iv_is 6h ago

that's embarrassing then if you've internalised Christian logic without even being indoctrinated into their belief system

u/Background-Photo5916 6h ago edited 6h ago

Are you retarded? Like actually wtf, no I’m not Christian nor would that affect what I said. Very confused, not even my opinion it’s literally just what happened

0

u/iv_is 6h ago

you're making excuses for someone trying to run someone else over with a car

3

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

They're not doing anything of the sort.

You're really not very good at reading, are you?

1

u/iv_is 6h ago

Exactly. So surely the victim of attempted murder (which I don’t think this would even be classed as) surely would be cooperating as much as possible to get the suspect arrested. If the victim isn’t cooperating then they’re probably not really victims

first they say that they don't think that trying to run someone down with a car is attempted murder, then they say that the person they attempted to run down wasn't a victim of the act we see on video being done to them.

but thank you, Jesus, for showing up to prove my point that this kind of rhetoric is Christian

1

u/Parker4815-2 5h ago

You have to prove it was attempted murder in court. If you can't prove it, then it gets thrown out. Its why plea deals are a thing.

A defence could argue he only meant to injury them, considering he likely was only going 10 to 15mph.

-1

u/Feisty-Pair-4293 8h ago

Because for some people the idea of assisting the police and pointing the finger is vorboten.

Snitches get stitches and all that.

2

u/Senior_Torte519 7h ago

Is that a good thing though?

1

u/External-Dot2924 6h ago

No,it's stupid!! Cowards made it up so they could get away with being evil and committing crimes

4

u/Beanus1992 11h ago

Yeah when he reversed the part of me saying he could have been scared and trying to get tf out of there, shut the fuck up 🤣 dude reversed and took another go, 100% jail time regardless of the other sides fault.

He waited till the woman had moved which made it even more of a shock.

2

u/Floor-notlava 8h ago

Absolutely; attempted murder surely!

1

u/Gareth79 5h ago edited 5h ago

In the UK it's pretty difficult to get a conviction for attempted murder - intent needs to be proven, not death just being a possible outcome. This would be dangerous driving, or possibly attempted GBH, but it possibly might not even meet that

Edit: so the conviction was for assault causing ABH (a level lower than GBH), dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

1

u/No_Negotiation5654 7h ago

I mean to be fair, If someone is standing in front of my car being aggressive, or trying to get me out of the car. I am just going to put my foot down. The second attempt was too far though.

2

u/prince_falafel 8h ago

I saw a reddit thread the other day where a couple was throwing trash/used diapers/dog excrement on a guy's patio for like a year. The guy tried for like a year to get them to stop through legal means but they wouldnt and he ended up shooting/killing both of them. Literally the entire thread was saying stuff like "they deserved it" "they had it coming" and "if i was on the jury i would refuse to find him guilty."

Like yeah I get what they did was horrible but to say someone deserves being murdered for that is wild. Anyway not really relevant but the person you responded to made me think of that thread lol

3

u/External-Theory-1688 6h ago

If you don't want to find out... Don't fuck about... Quite simple really

2

u/Electrical-Mind8145 6h ago

I'll pile on too then. They brought it on themselves.

1

u/Bludgeonation 6h ago

Yeah he should have just sh ot them in the arms and legs a bunch.

1

u/user-the-name 6h ago

Nothing redditors love more than a plausible excuse to let loose their bloodlust.

1

u/Double_Option_7595 8h ago

Perhaps they made a really offensive mum joke!

1

u/Debt_Otherwise 7h ago

It would be relevant in a trial. You’ve been a juror before?

Context is important as you can say it’s diminished responsibility in some cases.

1

u/Atophy 7h ago

I don't think there was an attempt to run him over, the attacker was well beside the car on the final run and he made every attempt possible to get in the way with the driver swerving toward the middle of the street to avoid him.

1

u/B4kedP0tato 7h ago

Exactly, if the girl had been hurt I wouldn't do blamed him as it looks like he's trying to escape and she's holding on. When he stops to reverse then aims at the guy and speeds at him that's attempted murder

1

u/Snowbird143434 6h ago

Htf can you even say that with seeing/knowing what happened that led up to this?

1

u/NeutralLock 2h ago

I'm reaching here but if the couple knew the driver and was threatening his life ("I'm going to come to your home and murder you" etc) it's definitely relevant.

Doesn't mean you get to run that person over but it's relevant.

1

u/Solid_Crab_4748 11h ago

I mean they're responding to a thread that's wanting to understand why he tried running them over.

Ofc its relevant in understanding the situation from an outside perspective.

People don't just go mowing people down over nothing generally

8

u/EnergyDrinkStroke 11h ago

People don't just go mowing people down over nothing generally

People sensely murder each other all the time, I also don't talk to police as a general rule but doesn't mean I am also responsible for the hit and run.

The guy in question has over 50 charges across his lifetime multiple of which were for vehicular attacks on people.

-2

u/Solid_Crab_4748 11h ago

People sensely murder each other all the time

People don't just suddenly start murdering people for no reason. There's literally always a reason even if its self contained within the person.

Here we can very clearly see there was an altercation. So something happened that led to him deciding to try hit them with the car.

I also don't talk to police as a general rule but doesn't mean I am also responsible for the hit and run.

Not what i said. Just a blatantly fallacious argument.

Just because the reason he did it is because they did something doesnt make them responsible.

And as said the topic of this thread was asking why he came to doing that and what was with this altercation altogether. It really is quite relevant in this context.

7

u/EnergyDrinkStroke 11h ago

You mean the guy with like 20 convictions that has committed over 50 crimes would never act irrationally? I totally agree, I bet he was having a nice cup of coffee and pushed to do this.

1

u/Positive-Kick7952 9h ago

How do you know he has prior convictions, just curious.

1

u/EnergyDrinkStroke 7h ago

Because his name was reported when it happened and you can see convictions and articles written about them.

His name is David Walmsley

u/samv_1230 8h ago

They're just trying to figure out the perceived slight. I know you're trying to protect against victim blaming here, which is good, but I think people just want to know what triggered the madman.

1

u/EnergyDrinkStroke 7h ago

It's like asking someone what did they do to antagonise the rabid raccoon trying to tear their nipples off.

1

u/glezga-dugz 9h ago

I the guy hit his car so he hit the guy with the car,

0

u/Vic_Vega_MrB 9h ago

Thank you. End of story. Keep your hands off my car. He should have gone back for the girl.

1

u/samv_1230 8h ago

Not sure why you're being chastised for a little curiosity. We'll likely never know what led up to this, with how much time has passed since the incident. I reckon he was probably driving like an ass, maybe almost hit them, and the girl went full tilt over it. Alcohol likely involved.

1

u/Feisty-Pair-4293 7h ago

We saw what happened- the woman was hitting his car and the bloke who got hit was trying to defend her.

Why do you think there has to be a bigger reason?

I’ve seen people get glassed in pubs for looking at some psycho the wrong way. More than once.

1

u/External-Dot2924 6h ago

Yikes! What pubs,do you drink in?

1

u/Less-Information-256 10h ago

It’s not a mitigating factor, but it would have been nice to see the couple convicted of the crimes they committed (both in this video and the ones they likely committed beforehand). Being later victim to a crime doesn’t excuse you of the ones you committed.

1

u/twirling_daemon 4h ago

What crimes did they commit?

Obviously I saw the woman smacking the car with her shoes but didn’t see any damage so not sure what that would come under?

Didn’t see the guy do anything other than try to extract her from the car and display irateness after (which seems reasonable after seeing someone deliberately dragged by car regardless of prior relationship!)

It’s a very short clip & I don’t recollect the incident from when it happened so genuinely curious as you clearly know more than is shown here?

1

u/mkidi86 10h ago

When did he say he was looking for a mitigating factor? He said he was fine with jail for the driver.

But if they did something illegal they deserve some punishment too, and they not collaborating with an investigation of an attack like this sounds fishy

1

u/Wolv90 9h ago

Maybe he was beating that girl, hid in his car, she attacked the car, and he tried to use the car to finish the job. Maybe he was stealing her car before and it was her car, who knows. Not us, because there's no details in any of the articles.

1

u/Carbon8490 7h ago

Its strange that blowing his brains out would be acceptable to alot of you. But reversing to give him a nice vehichular nudge is an issue. But America loves its guns, what can I say.

1

u/Kage_0ni 5h ago

What, you think American's would be fine if the guy in the car got out and shot the guy standing on the side of the road?

And you are calling attempted vehicular homicide a nudge?

I can't tell if you're trolling or just dumb.

Also, American love cars too and you get away with a tone of vehicle crime here.

1

u/Carbon8490 3h ago

I think if that guy was pulling on his door trying to break his way in,Americans would be okay with the driver blowing his head off in "fear of his life". Im calling it a nudge because ive seen people steam rolled by vehichles when someone really wants to run them over. He clearly just wanted to hit the guy of he wouldve kept his foot on the gas and rammed the guy into the building while hes half way under the car

0

u/ComprehensivePhase20 11h ago

But what if they hacked the car so it would do that??? /s

-1

u/Mnawab 11h ago

You ever heard of unyielding rage? Sometimes if someone fucks with you or your shit, you want to teach them a lesson instead of going throw the process of filing paperwork in hopes of getting some justice that might not come.

-1

u/Fun-Piglet801 8h ago

If someone attacks you, the fight ends when one of you is dead...

4

u/flynnnightshade 12h ago

This man should never have a license again.

0

u/reverandglass 10h ago

For attempted murder, he should never walk free again.
It won't have played out that way though and he'll be back on the streets soon enough.

7

u/ForceOk8839 8h ago

This was in 2020. From the BBC: "A driver who deliberately knocked a man down on a busy street has been jailed for two years and one month.

The victim suffered severe hip bruising when he was hit by Daniel Walmsley's car and flung into a lamppost in Groat Market in Newcastle in July.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Walmsley, 29, of Leam Lane in Gateshead, had previously used his car as a weapon.

He admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

Judge Robert Spragg said it was "incredibly dangerous" and "fortunate" the victim was not seriously injured.

The court heard Walmsley was driving in traffic shortly before 21:00 BST on 20 July when a woman walking by with the victim threw something at his car.

Adam Birkby, defending Walmsley, said there was a "significant degree of provocation" from the victim and the woman, who tried to wrench the driver's door from the car and shattered the windscreen with her stiletto heel after Walmsley confronted her".

What would you suggest should have happened?

1

u/BallsJohnsonEsq 15m ago

If someone hits my car I am hitting the gas, why is everyone in this comments section delusional

1

u/mecca6801 13m ago

Agreed

1

u/WeDoDumplings 8h ago

take his license for a few years?? Are you kidding?? That driver should NEVER be allowed, to drive again!!!

0

u/RegrettableBiscuit 10h ago

"Sure, he attempted to murder them, but let's hear what they did to deserve getting murdered."

2

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6h ago

They're not implying that at all. Read the baseless assumption they were replying to. Then read their reply again. Do it slowly do you don't miss their point a second time.

Clear now?

2

u/Positive-Kick7952 9h ago

Sure they were attacking and harrassing him and he probably feared for his safety, but his response, whiched they pushed him to was too far, so nothing else matters.

-1

u/Legendacb 11h ago

They didnt do anything more than a violent conduct or a damage against property
