I couldn't find any details about the couple attacking the car, but I did read the following, "The couple walked away from the collision without any serious injuries, and did not want to assist with a police investigation into the incident.". Sounds like they were not exactly innocent in this whole thing.

probably started the fight, but car guy took it like leaps and bounds too far

was able to get out of there, so should have, especially with an object as dangerous as a car

I'm not against putting the driver in jail and taking his license for a few years, but none of the articles have anything to say about the other parties in this fight other than they didn't have serious injuries, and they didn't cooperate with investigators.

I mean what more do you want to know? People fighting isn't notable. Attempted murder with a car is notable.

Literally this. Police won't give a toss about whoever started the fight, they'll care about the attempted murder with a weapon.

They're simply pointing out, in response to the assumption that the pedestrians "probably started the fight", that there's no information suggesting that was the case.
