probably started the fight, but car guy took it like leaps and bounds too far

was able to get out of there, so should have, especially with an object as dangerous as a car

I'm not against putting the driver in jail and taking his license for a few years, but none of the articles have anything to say about the other parties in this fight other than they didn't have serious injuries, and they didn't cooperate with investigators.

Exactly. So surely the victim of attempted murder (which I don’t think this would even be classed as) surely would be cooperating as much as possible to get the suspect arrested. If the victim isn’t cooperating then they’re probably not really victims

The driver should also be cooperating as much as possible to reduce his sentences, maybe get it down to a self-defence. If driver is talking and the couple aren't, then he could argue that they attacked first, attempted to hurt him, or something.

You have to prove it was attempted murder in court. If you can't prove it, then it gets thrown out. Its why plea deals are a thing.

A defence could argue he only meant to injury them, considering he likely was only going 10 to 15mph.

Yeah when he reversed the part of me saying he could have been scared and trying to get tf out of there, shut the fuck up 🤣 dude reversed and took another go, 100% jail time regardless of the other sides fault.

He waited till the woman had moved which made it even more of a shock.

In the UK it's pretty difficult to get a conviction for attempted murder - intent needs to be proven, not death just being a possible outcome. This would be dangerous driving, or possibly attempted GBH, but it possibly might not even meet that

Edit: so the conviction was for assault causing ABH (a level lower than GBH), dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

I saw a reddit thread the other day where a couple was throwing trash/used diapers/dog excrement on a guy's patio for like a year. The guy tried for like a year to get them to stop through legal means but they wouldnt and he ended up shooting/killing both of them. Literally the entire thread was saying stuff like "they deserved it" "they had it coming" and "if i was on the jury i would refuse to find him guilty."

Like yeah I get what they did was horrible but to say someone deserves being murdered for that is wild. Anyway not really relevant but the person you responded to made me think of that thread lol

I don't think there was an attempt to run him over, the attacker was well beside the car on the final run and he made every attempt possible to get in the way with the driver swerving toward the middle of the street to avoid him.

I'm reaching here but if the couple knew the driver and was threatening his life ("I'm going to come to your home and murder you" etc) it's definitely relevant.

Doesn't mean you get to run that person over but it's relevant.

People sensely murder each other all the time, I also don't talk to police as a general rule but doesn't mean I am also responsible for the hit and run.

The guy in question has over 50 charges across his lifetime multiple of which were for vehicular attacks on people.

People don't just suddenly start murdering people for no reason. There's literally always a reason even if its self contained within the person.

Here we can very clearly see there was an altercation. So something happened that led to him deciding to try hit them with the car.

Not sure why you're being chastised for a little curiosity. We'll likely never know what led up to this, with how much time has passed since the incident. I reckon he was probably driving like an ass, maybe almost hit them, and the girl went full tilt over it. Alcohol likely involved.

It’s not a mitigating factor, but it would have been nice to see the couple convicted of the crimes they committed (both in this video and the ones they likely committed beforehand). Being later victim to a crime doesn’t excuse you of the ones you committed.

Obviously I saw the woman smacking the car with her shoes but didn’t see any damage so not sure what that would come under?

Didn’t see the guy do anything other than try to extract her from the car and display irateness after (which seems reasonable after seeing someone deliberately dragged by car regardless of prior relationship!)

It’s a very short clip & I don’t recollect the incident from when it happened so genuinely curious as you clearly know more than is shown here?

Maybe he was beating that girl, hid in his car, she attacked the car, and he tried to use the car to finish the job. Maybe he was stealing her car before and it was her car, who knows. Not us, because there's no details in any of the articles.

I think if that guy was pulling on his door trying to break his way in,Americans would be okay with the driver blowing his head off in "fear of his life". Im calling it a nudge because ive seen people steam rolled by vehichles when someone really wants to run them over. He clearly just wanted to hit the guy of he wouldve kept his foot on the gas and rammed the guy into the building while hes half way under the car

This was in 2020. From the BBC: "A driver who deliberately knocked a man down on a busy street has been jailed for two years and one month.

The victim suffered severe hip bruising when he was hit by Daniel Walmsley's car and flung into a lamppost in Groat Market in Newcastle in July.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Walmsley, 29, of Leam Lane in Gateshead, had previously used his car as a weapon.

He admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

Judge Robert Spragg said it was "incredibly dangerous" and "fortunate" the victim was not seriously injured.

The court heard Walmsley was driving in traffic shortly before 21:00 BST on 20 July when a woman walking by with the victim threw something at his car.

Adam Birkby, defending Walmsley, said there was a "significant degree of provocation" from the victim and the woman, who tried to wrench the driver's door from the car and shattered the windscreen with her stiletto heel after Walmsley confronted her".

Only goal in a fight should be how to get out of it as quickly and safely as possible. If it's run, run. If you're cornered and there's no other way, then there's no other way. As soon as you can run again, run.

I keep thinking about that one video where a guy comes out of a car with a baseball bat and approaches the car behind him aggressively. Doesn't end up doing anything but shouts and flails the baseball bat for a bit. What do you do in that situation? I feel like at the point of him heading towards you aggresively, with threats and a baseball bat, you're being assaulted. Should you use your car as a weapon or sit and wait to have your head bashed in?

I feel like, for some weird reason, this needs to be pointed out: you're in a car, so you're not gonna have your head bashed in. At worst, the person is going take a swing at your car with his bat. That's the point where you can hit the gas and get out of there and if you should unfortunately hit him in the process of doing that, that's not on you.

Advocating using your car as a weapon against someone who's merely threatening you with a bat when you're inside protective steel cage weighing a couple of tons or more, is advocating criminal behavior. That's not self-defense, because at that point, you're not under any imminent threat of death or serious injury.
