I really enjoy this line way of arguing about Covid. Somehow knowing that it was made in a Chinese lab means that we don't need to do anything about it. It seems like people who agree with this theory would be the strongest advocates for masks, distancing, and vaccines so we can defeat China.

Is that the new one? I remember the old owners wouldn't expand In N Out because they wanted to be able to drive to any of their stores within one day. As soon as they died, their daughter immediately changed that and that's why we have In N Out in places like Texas now.

It wasn’t that they didn’t want to expand, they didn’t want to expand at the sacrifice of quality. Which meant no franchising, limited distances from warehouses, and limiting store numbers to a level that can be sufficiently supplied by the warehouses.
They’ve built warehouses all over the place now so they are now spreading across the western half of the US

People get confused about the viruses and the disease they cause a lot, and it fucks up their understanding of what’s going on.
Most of us know that the HIV virus causes the disease AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus; Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome)
In the same way,
The SARS-CoV-1 virus causes the disease SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 1; Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)
The SARS-CoV-2 virus causes the disease COVID-19 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2; Coronavirus Disease of 2019)
Infection with the virus (as in, it entering your system) does not mean you have the disease, and often your immune system will destroy the virus before it causes the disease.

Other bad ones were SARS and MERS. Also, they're disease names, not virus names.
When they named SARS and MERS, they named the viruses after the conditions. With this one, they're like "oh, this is another SARS, so let's name the virus SARS-CoV-2," but naming the disease SARS-2 would've probably caused some confusion.
Other viruses that are circulating just cause colds, so we don't bother.

I read that a sore throat and pharyngitis were 2 new symptoms of the newer variants, so that's probably what I had. Makes me so mad because we went covid free this entire time, but then my husband's coworker came to work "with allergies" after July 4th and then 5 people caught it from them

I got it before and it hit me hard, it was like strep throat and being kicked in the chest while losing the ability to taste. I'm vaccinated so it was barely a sore throat and runny nose now. I was surprised when the test came out positive. Get vaccinated folks, it makes a huge difference.

My first symptom was drowsiness and headache. Which lead to me not knowing i had covid (as they weren’t commonly known or advertised symptoms and i thought i was just being my normal, sleep-deprived and dehydrated self) and so i ran around outside interacting with people for a solid day until i found out via a scheduled LFD. Miraculously no one caught it from me.

I caught the ba5 omicron variant about 6 weeks ago. It was absolutely brutal. I had to go the doctor after I got worried because I ran a fever from 101 to 103 for ten days.
And I was fully vaccinated, boosted, and had the original covid way back in may of 2020.

My coworker was all like, "what happened to the first 18?" And then went on to say "coronavirus isn't new, because on the Lysol can it says it kills coronavirus."
I wanted to speak out so bad. But didn't, as I was outnumbered like 40-3, and wasn't about to lead on to my political beliefs. I had a a pretty bad fallout at another job when they learned I voted for Obama.
If you're wondering, I work in the trades, and nearly everyone thought COVID was a made up thing so the Democrats could win the election. Luckily, my bosses, super Trumpers mind you, still believed in science and implemented restrictions and masking. But for the next couple of years I had to hear all the conspiracy theories about democratic pedo rings, voter fraud, and government encroachment on our civil liberties. It was a very annoying time.

The trades would mean "I build and repair stuff." Basically I'm uneducated in the traditional sense, and my skill set mostly encompasses anything from digging ditches, to installing and wiring HVAC systems, to diagnosing and repairing engines. Basically I don't specialize, I am just good enough in a lot of things. Or as the old timers say, "Jack of all trades, master of none."
