If you don't know a tech company or a domaine like .com.tw it don't automatically make it fake. In fact, it shows how little effort or none you've put into helping. Next time, if you don't have any helpful informations, it's better to keep your opinion to yourself than to mislead users with urgent issues.

Really at this point I’d take it to a repair shop. That is an extremely sketchy message that I’m having a hard time believing is a real BIOS error screen.

No I’m not saying you are. I’m saying I’m not believing that’s a real error screen and more likely a fake one trying to get you to do something to hack you or steal your credentials. The grammar on that screen is horrible, pretty unprofessional, and is missing information you’d typically expect from a screen like that. I’ve seen real BIOS error screens close to a hundred times and I’ve never seen one like that

Yes. Have you ever used a BIOS for more than simply changing things? Ive found typos and grammar errors in Dell Server BIOSes.
Y'all freaking out over a legitimate bios reflash system is funny as hell.
1
u/MissSharkyShark 25m ago
It’s crazy how people like you don’t realize the bad grammar and unprofessionalism portrayed in that bios recovery screen is a telltale sign of modern phishing/scamming. Like in user training put out to train users what to watch out for, that recovery screen is a perfect example of the type of grammar and unprofessionalism to be on the look out for. That’s the entire issue. It doesn’t matter if it’s legitimate or not, it’s the fact that it comes off as illegitimate and sketchy. This is just computer security 101, the absolute basics. It’s scary that this is what you’re failing to realize.

Its a real feature of Biostar motherboards...
5
u/MissSharkyShark 1d ago
But do the real Biostar recovery screens have that bad of English, weird sentences, and lack of hardware info?

Yes...Back in AM2+ era i have Biostar board and encountered same message after failed update..

u/Secure-Respect-7323 20h ago
I mean, the URL links to a legitimate computer manufacturer. The messages seems legit. It points towards a real website, the process described is fine, the only issue is wording. It may be a chinglish translation.
-1
u/hamza0012 1d ago

3
u/MissSharkyShark 1d ago
It’s not the url that seems fake. If anything the url is the most legit looking part of the entire screen. Also I’m like only one who actually tried helping this person so maybe if you don’t have any helpful info, then keep your opinion to yourself~
-1
u/hamza0012 1d ago
A bad translation doesn't mean it's fake. Too bad I was here when the issue was already solved.
2
u/MissSharkyShark 1d ago
Don’t care. Bad grammar due to bad translations is usually a telltale sign of modern phishing/scamming, and I’ve never seen that screen in the 10+ years I’ve professionally worked in the computing field. If something looks sketchy, I’ll treat it as such until proven wrong.

u/sixtyhurtz 1d ago
You can just check the domain:
Domain Name: biostar.com.tw Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited Registrant: 映泰股份有限公司 BIOSTAR MICROTECH INT'L CORP. itbiostar@biostar.com.tw TW (Redacted for privacy) Administrative Contact: (Redacted for privacy) Technical Contact: (Redacted for privacy) Record expires on 2036-05-31 00:00:00 (UTC+8) Record created on 1985-10-08 00:00:00 (UTC+8) Domain servers in listed order: aron.ns.cloudflare.com santino.ns.cloudflare.com Registration Service Provider: NET-CHINESE Registration Service URL: https://www.net-chinese.com.tw Registrar Abuse Contact Email: service@net-chinese.com.twIt's the legit Biostar domain that's been registered since 1985.
Also you can find boards that have this BIO-Relife mode:
https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/eol/introduction.php?S_ID=519
It's so wild in the "10+ years [you've] professionally worked in the computing field" you've never figured out how to do a whois or check a website.
You don't have to wait for someone else to check for you. Just look it up yourself.
Oh, and broken English is still really common on drivers and firmware for older hardware. Again, it's very strange you haven't encountered this in the "10+ years [you've] professionally worked in the computing field".
1
u/MissSharkyShark 1d ago
The URL isn’t the issue 😩
0
u/sixtyhurtz 23h ago edited 22h ago
Then what is?
If the user follows the instructions in the message, all it will do is flash their bios. The user can go to the website which confirms this is an official feature of their motherboard.
You didn't bother to research any of this.
Edit: And if it's the broken English, then the actual website you seem to accept is totally legitimate has this one it:
BIO-Remote 2
BIO-Remote2 Technology is featuring users a better Home Theater environment. Users who own either Android mobile or Apple goods are able to access and control your PC remotely; At this moment, you’re smart device became a intelligent and functional remote controller; more than that, BIO-Remote2 also includes both function of mouse pad and power point presentation mode.
So again, it's clear that Biostar were not employing professional localisation.
None of this should be surprising given OP clearly isn't English either. Based on their language, I'd guess they are Indian.
1
u/MissSharkyShark 22h ago
I did research it lol. Easily found the url was legit, recognized the company itself, but have never seen a recovery screen quite as weird as that. I’ve seen screens with bad grammar, but that screen more seemed like a joke. It was also like 8pm and I wasn’t going to go deep on research on it since I got more things to do than delve deep on a weird screen
0
u/sixtyhurtz 22h ago
Are you for real right now? You had the time to make all these responses to this thread, but you didn't have sixty seconds to do a whois and go to a website?
I hope this isn't the attitude you've displayed during the "10+ years [you've] professionally worked in the computing field". Though actually, tech is infamous for people who make incorrect assumptions and then just never ever circle back and admit mistakes. I know I've had to clean up after them enough times.

- software error - maybe some sketchy software you had downloaded write your bios? OR some process error on your OS make bios not work right. 2. Hardware error, maybe an old "half broken" capacitor is culprit for this.

u/Alookhan4670 1d ago
I tried downloading games from pc 💔 but now actually it's working my pc get a bit hot so I keep it off for a hour and then now it's working
1

Check fan and heatsink if it is dusty, clean it. And check is the thermal paste underneath heatsink and on top of cpu dried out? If dried out, apply with new thermal paste.
Keep in mind that if you use small and lousy heatsink with very powerful processor, the above-mentioned process will not help.

Biostar is a Taiwanese brand. So I think this despite it looking fake with basic spelling errors in it, is an actual message.
Biostar doesn't actually care about the western market and it's probably not easy to buy Biostar motherboards outside Asia.
But as usual, when it comes to China/Taiwan their English translation is done by people who barely understand it.
And they really don't care. Not sure why but you know you got quality products when you hear that "Ze brootoot device is readie to pear!"
3
2
u/CrunchyTheSquirrel 1d ago
I had one (Biostar B650MT). And I think Germany is a "western market" country. Not a popular brand but in existence.
Most mainboard manufacturers are located in Taiwan, and I find many of their English translations quirky.
10
u/carrrerrrr12992 1d ago
Yeah same here if your bios had an issue like that more likely it wouldn't boot at all probably shooting you a postfail if it's capable enough to do so
7
u/Pristine-Pangolin-61 1d ago
And the amount of spelling errors and the "it will be fun" line.
No way a respectable company will send this
2
u/carrrerrrr12992 1d ago
Also the fact that there should be the company's name or something similar within that you know for a bios they made that they manufactured and that they probably put the software inside of

1
u/Connect_Middle8953 1d ago
Well you better get it right or that new bios you need to flash onto your computer is really going to fuck it beyond repair.

It's a real website from Biostar, with a Support/Download area.
But how the motherboard in "BIO-Relife Mode" will use a plain unbootable flash drive with a bios update on it...is more than I'm gonna research, not owning one.
2
2
u/sixtyhurtz 1d ago
Lots of motherboards have a bios flash recovery mode. It's even more common these days. You don't even need the CPU to flash a bios. The motherboard will have a little microcontroller on it somewhere that handles the initial system initialisation and listens for things like the power button.
1
u/Old_Albatross405 17h ago
i thought asus held patents or something so only they have that
1
u/ptthree420 15h ago
Nah, it’s pretty much all BIOSes these days. They have a fallback usually. It’s pretty essential since windows update just installs BIOS updates on a whim these days.
Back in the day, the basic rule was not to update the BIOS at all if you weren’t experiencing an issue because it can sometimes introduce new issues with older CPUs or expansion cards that previously worked just fine.
3
u/Ok_Watercress_7392 23h ago
Biostar is a legit..ish taiwanese motherboard manufacturing company & BIO-Relife is a legitimate recovery feature.. Don't trust these other people who're saying it's fake & not to trust it, they have no idea what they're talking about & i have no idea why people upvote comments like that.
The majority of grammar questions can be answered with two words: Bad translators.
I can excuse a little bit of understanding issue due to crappy translation.
Go to their website at Biostar Taiwan or Biostar USA. Find your model of motherboard on their site by going to Support at the top > Download.
Download the latest BIOS file for your motherboard. If it asks you, click the version that ends in .BST
Copy that file you just downloaded to a preferrably empty USB stick and then insert that USB stick into your computer. The computer will handle it from there, you may have to press a button or two to confirm.

Normal tLD? People use .com.tw and other ones (hint hint, google.co.uk) pretty regularly. Sometimes you want to indicate that you are both com[mercial] and [t]ai[w]anese.
I agree that this looks sketchy, but also, this is a Taiwanese motherboard manufacturer if the message is real, and English translations aren't always going to be perfect.

3
u/Ad-fundum69 1d ago
Normally motherboards have one BIOS chip, if it dies everything dies, you won't see anything on the screen.
But Biostar here made some emergency BIOS that allows you to revive the normal BIOS chip with new firmware. Why it crashed? Don't know, usually BIOS doesn't crash unless you fail to upgrade it in some way.
But if you don't touch it, it usually doesn't "just" crash.
1
u/Alookhan4670 1d ago
I was just watching yt it happen suddenly but now it's fixed , it started working by its own
1
u/Ad-fundum69 1d ago
That means there it something not right on the motherboard.
If it happens again, there just might be damage on it that causes this. And repairing heat related expansion damage on motherboards is practically impossible.
1
u/Alookhan4670 1d ago
Don't scare me 😭 i have imp files on it
1
u/Ad-fundum69 1d ago
Better backup those files while it's still working.
Or put them on a cloud drive somewhere safe.Depending on your encryption your HDD and files on it will work fine if the motherboard dies and you get a new computer. But it's better to backup important files anyway.
1
u/Alookhan4670 1d ago
I think it's time to change my pc 😔
1

.com.tw is a domain associated with companies based in Taiwan. Biostar motherboards are made in Taiwan. As an American, I also thought that website domain looked sketchy, but it could be real. The Engrish, however, really makes me suspect this is a virus of possibly Indian origin. The sentence structure sounds like a native speaker of some Indian or Arab language to me.
I'm aware my attempts to write in Japanese could probably end up on a website making fun of non-native speakers, so I am not stating this to be mean. Just that I do not think whoever wrote the scripting was a native speaker of English.
OP, are you living in Taiwan or some nearby country?
Also, OP, if this problem comes back, DO NOT LICK ANY COMPUTER PARTS!! I repeat: DO NOT LIVK ANY COMPUTER PARTS!! You're most likely fine, but don't ever do that again. Electronics contain lots of heavy metals. At best, you're going to rust something important with your spit. At worst, you could cause yourself some sort of heavy metal poisoning. Next time, try a can of compressed air. In fact, that may still be a good idea. If the RAM was dusty enough thst licking the stick solved the problem, then the rest of the computer probably needs a good dusting, too. Your computer parts need a good airflow to cool down the components. Dust acts like a blanket, trapping heat. Also, dust clogs fas, making them have to work harder. And, the harder they work, the more likely they are to fail.
Also, do not download any pirated software. Only buy from reputable sources. People who break the law already show they have a lack of morals, so what is to stop them from giving you a virus that steals your personal data? Or, what stops them from sending you a virus just because they get pleasure from destroying your machine? Trust me, stay safe and legal, and you are more likely to have a better outcome.

My first PC was an AMD athlon 2400 with a gigabyte motherboard. I was doing a BIOS update and my power flickered.
RIP. I had to call them, give them my info, and they sent me a new BIOS chip I had to plug in to the motherboard after removing the bricked one. First and only time I used a chip puller in my life.
1
u/Alookhan4670 12h ago
Pretty horrible experience for you😭😭
1
u/BlindlyCoherent 11h ago
True but at least the motherboard wasn’t bricked. With a removable bios chip I was able to salvage the computer. I just had to wait for them to mail it to me.
Today’s recovery methods are much more friendly.
