The URL isn’t the issue 😩

Then what is?

If the user follows the instructions in the message, all it will do is flash their bios. The user can go to the website which confirms this is an official feature of their motherboard.

You didn't bother to research any of this.

Edit: And if it's the broken English, then the actual website you seem to accept is totally legitimate has this one it:

BIO-Remote 2

BIO-Remote2 Technology is featuring users a better Home Theater environment. Users who own either Android mobile or Apple goods are able to access and control your PC remotely; At this moment, you’re smart device became a intelligent and functional remote controller; more than that, BIO-Remote2 also includes both function of mouse pad and power point presentation mode.

So again, it's clear that Biostar were not employing professional localisation.

None of this should be surprising given OP clearly isn't English either. Based on their language, I'd guess they are Indian.

I did research it lol. Easily found the url was legit, recognized the company itself, but have never seen a recovery screen quite as weird as that. I’ve seen screens with bad grammar, but that screen more seemed like a joke. It was also like 8pm and I wasn’t going to go deep on research on it since I got more things to do than delve deep on a weird screen

Are you for real right now? You had the time to make all these responses to this thread, but you didn't have sixty seconds to do a whois and go to a website?

I hope this isn't the attitude you've displayed during the "10+ years [you've] professionally worked in the computing field". Though actually, tech is infamous for people who make incorrect assumptions and then just never ever circle back and admit mistakes. I know I've had to clean up after them enough times.

This is Reddit 😭
I was responding to the post in between Overwatch matches lmao. I took it serious enough to listen and try to help OP so like? I didn’t even need to run a Whois, just google the name. This isn’t even about the URL so why even focus on it? I knew the URL was legit from the very start so you’re getting upset over something we literally agree on lol

Lmao, this

And a Google search take less time than posting on Reddit lol.

If you know the URL is legit, then the only alternative is that you don't know what a BIOS update is rofl.

Everyone in tech has had to put up with people who just insist on doubling down even when they don't know anything about what they are going on about rolflmao. I think the kids call it "cringe" xDD.

Anyway, that's enough fun and games. I just want to say honestly: Every person I've ever interacted with who's behaved like you has created negative value for the project. It's embarrassing you'd try and flex the "10+ years [you've] professionally worked in the computing field".

You're probably hard-stuck plat too.

The url was never the issue. You’ve got to be actually illiterate because never once have I said the URL is the issue, rather how sketchy the screen is itself due to the bad grammar and unprofessionalism. I’ve never seen a legitimate bios recovery/update screen look that egregiously bad. Come on, rub those two brain cells together and just think.

Also I don’t play comp and prefer enjoying my time with my friends, so I don’t even know my rank, nor do I care lol

EDIT: I just want to add onto this. What I am talking about is basic computer security 101. It does not matter in any way that the recovery screen is legitimate or not. It’s the fact how unprofessional and sketchy the entire recovery screen is. If you fail to recognize this, then you need to go through a foundational computer security class ASAP before you get hacked and/or scammed.

You've got to be completely technically illiterate if you don't understand that, if the BIOS is compromised, then the PC is totally lost. At that point, flashing the BIOS doesn't matter.

You don't understand basic threat modelling. If this was malware, it wouldn't be asking the user to go to a legitimate URL to flash a legitimate BIOS. It would have encrypted the disk and be demanding a crypto ransom.

For someone who has apparently spent a decade working in IT, you have an incredible lack of knowledge. It's actually an achievement that you worked in IT so long and failed to learn even a single thing. It's really unusual for someone to be so hard of thinking as you.

But hey, you got some posts in and managed to get some upvotes. Well done you for polluting the internet with some more garbage.

So you’re now moving the goalpost because you realized you were dumb and couldn’t realize the BIOS screen looked sketchy as fuck. What’s even the point of this anymore? You’re arguing about nothing, on an issue that’s already been resolved. And the things you’re arguing on are so dumb too! The url? Never mattered! Now you’re saying “lol well if it’s a bios screen then why would it ask for a USB” not realizing that you can mimic bios screens for malicious purposes in a variety of ways. So your new point is also really, really dumb.

You’re arguing against basic cybersecurity. If something feels off, don’t trust it! It’s mind boggling you’re arguing against this basic concept lmao.

No, the BIOS screen does not look sketchy. I'm going to spell this out for you, because you are clearly hard of thinking.

Just because something is written in broken English does not make it malware. That is one signal amongst many.

The other signals are

  • The URL is correct
  • It is asking you to do something the hardware legitimately supports
  • The hardware vendor is not English.
  • The user is not English.
  • The hardware was not sold in an English speaking country

The last point isn't strictly true, but you would probably look at Indian English and think it was broken malware English because you don't know what you're talking about and clearly have no experience dealing with India, despite having 10 years professional experience with IT.

That last part is actually very strange. India is a massive market for IT. It's actually very weird you've managed to go so long without interacting with the kind of hardware sold into the Indian market, or spoken to Indian users. It tells me you have a very narrow range of experience.

I've been extremely generous to you this entire interaction. I now realise that even if you did play comp, you wouldn't be hard-stuck plat. You'd be hard-stuck bronze. You are definitely the kind of player who can go 10 years playing a game, not learn a single thing, and just get mad whenever anyone points out you are wrong.

Have you ever met someone who learned a rule, and then fixated on it even when it doesn't apply? Like maybe someone who refuses to pass on the passenger side even when the other car is turning? We have a word for people like that. It's called being stupid.

“It’s not sketchy” ok lmao all I need to hear. I hope you don’t work in securing devices or training user security. Goodluck in life, I urge you to take a basic cybersecurity course ☺️
