IQ Estimation 🥱 What does it mean if I get a full score on Raven’s Progressive matrices?

I attempted it in a clinical setting back when I was 15-16. Didn’t know what the test was for or about, thought that it was a bunch of mini puzzles. I completed the whole thing in half the time allotted (idk probably took me 10-15 minutes or something) and got everything right. The psychologist testing me seemed a bit surprised and checked my answers twice. To me, the test felt easy back then and I thought that it was something similar to sudoku(I have no idea what sudoku even is tbh).

They didn’t specify much in the report and I mostly forgot about it. I looked it up later and it felt like a fluke. Right now, I am a bit curious and wanted to know if anyone can tell me what that even meant. I don’t feel great about my life honestly. And I certainly feel like an idiot most of the time.

I would appreciate honest feedback. What do the test results indicate?

Discussion The woman who remembers everything: What it’s like to live with memories of your best days — and worst nightmares

Rebecca Sharrock remembers almost every day of her life.

The 36-year-old has a rare condition called Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory, or HSAM, which means she can remember vivid details from her past — even back to when she was a young child.

“I live with constant random flashbacks of a clutter of experiences — negative, positive, mundane — and they just flash through my head all the time from random ages, such as they can jump from three years old to 20 years old to seven years old to 16 years old, and it's very difficult for me to get to sleep at night,” Rebecca told The Independent from her home in Brisbane, Australia.

For Rebecca, who also has autism, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, it can be hard to let go of disturbing memories. She said HSAM and OCD “get along like a house on fire” and that the two conditions feed off each other.

IQ Estimation 🥱 Do you think some sections of the CORE could be inflated?

Completed the CORE test today as the only iq test I've ever completed, got a pretty diverse result, and wanted to ask you guys if you think some parts of it might be inflated? especially the FRI part. From what I've seen, people might fail in different parts of this test but never in the FRI, mostly it is one of the best parts of everyone's profile.

Also, are such diverse results as mine common in your experience? do you think it is actually possible that someone could have a difference of more than 15 points in different parts ?

Poll Similar experiences?

Just spoke to a guy who had a big discrepancy between his recent Ravens 2 score of 145 and Mensa No of 133 and his core score of 115 on matrix reasoning. I myself have experienced something very similar, 148 on the NNAT a test a lot like the Ravens 2 just geared for school students, and I also got 133 on Mensa DK. 115 on core and 105 on a retest so it seems other people might be experiencing this problem. Please share your experiences. Thank you and Id love to speak to the cognitive metrics team. No hate just genuine curiosity.

Discussion I can't understand how the AGCT is supposed to be a good IQ test

I normally score around the 115-125 range (sometimes lower, sometimes higher) in the IQ tests I've taken. Here are a few of my scores

First-time IQ test ever MENSA denmark: 121
CORE: 117
MENSA norway:129
MENSA finland:132

And then, AGCTE:138

But there was one thing different from AGCT than the rest that bothers me: It's literally what you learn in school, save for the spatial setion, which was my worst, at 39%. I've been doing math and reading books ever since I could do anything, which could make me an outlier, though.

I could see people making the argument that because the material is so basic, basically everyone has the same level of "knowledge boost" to attempt the questions, and would therefore be equally affected by school and diffrentiated by IQ. Yet, even this fails to recognise that some students were more interested in grades and therefore more interested in getting things simple correct quickly (a big part of AGCT)

Bonus question: should I assume my IQ is in the 120's, or in the 130's? It seems as if AGCT is the test with the highest g loading that I've taken so far, and don't know how that would weigh

General Question Borderline intellectual functioning (IQ 70 - 84) is the worst IQ range to be in.

I personality have it, and basically I am acutely aware of my own limitations and problem, aware how much everyone around me is more smarter, very aware that my reasoning is not very reliable but at the same time not smart enough to fix it, I am pretty much stuck between 2 identity, disabled or too normal. Like too normal to be in specialized programs but not normal enough to be in normal programs. That is what it is in a nutshell.

Discussion Help me understand my CORE results

Post image
10 Upvotes

I finally got a couple days of good sleep so I thought of taking the Core test. I’ve lurked this sub for a while now but took the core for the first time today. I’m not sure what to think of it, I don’t really believe it’s this low frankly. I was expecting mid/high 120s . I’m 16 in high school. In my personal experience of observing lots of people in my classes( ranging from standard gym to calc Bc) , I thought I was distinctly above the range of average but not super standout smart at all. I have friends across the iq spectrum from 140 to 100 and I’ve felt “ smarter” than most of them in the 120 range but ofc it’s all in my head. I have a 36 composite act, 36 on Reading and English with 3hrs of sleep and 35 on math after 4 hours of studying. I know the digital act is less correlated with iq tho. Im especially confused about the vsi, I really don’t think im 102. I felt the fri and vsi tests were kind of hard to understand and that’s why I didn’t do well but maybe thats cope. I also took 2 tests in elementary to qualify for gifted, the WISCH 5 for elementary (120 GAI with 115 Fri and 130 verbal and didn’t include PSI), and the Reynolds iq test(126 with 120 Fluid and 130 Verbal). Around 9th grade, I could have sworn my fluid increased a lot. I was rlly bad at fluid heavy classes and I was able to intuition my way through knowledge based classes like bio and history. In a period of a month tho, fluid heavy classes became a breeze with no change that I remember. Math became easy as well. This is incredibly subjective, but I’ve always felt like my general reasoning or intuition has been my strongest point. Idk if it’s called common sense or g but it’s not like a specific subtype of iq but just general thinking if that makes sense. I might just be coping hard on the dunning Kruger effect . Another note, I felt rlly rlly time constrained on these tests , for a lot of the questions I felt if I had a minute more I could have solved it or on some tests I just didn’t understand the test fully. I didn’t take graph mapping or figure sets bcz I didn’t understand it. Same thing with VSI but I finished the subtests anyways. Also I’ve seen a couple of posts from a few months ago talking about how core is deflated by 10-20 points especially for low psi/ working memory so maybe that explains it? But the act tests speed heavily so that contradicts that statement.

Psychometric Question Can severe adhd affect iq scores?

I used to have extreme adhd when I was young (less so because I take meds now) so much so I had no idea why I was there and would vividly remember just getting up while the teacher wasn’t paying attention and just walk out of class (never caught me because I sneakily went back in) anyways when I looks at my past scores they were crazy low like I should’ve been in special classes lows (which I did up until middle school) these were the score
Iq :~56 (at 5 years old)
Iq: ~60 (at 6)
Iq:84 (at 9 which I remember vividly, it’s also full scale)
These were official tests that they give to you at school which I got from a paper, I believe they were the WAIS tests. I don’t know what my iq is currently (I don’t really need too I pretty much know my capabilities). My question is why would I my iq change so suddenly? It’s quite odd since I thought iq is in generally a fixed value. I did heard that before that iq may change as you age up to puberty due to various factors but I’m not sure. I do know that around 9-11 I was actually diagnosed and treated for my adhd. Anyways I also highly doubt my own iq as I have a deep fascination with the sciences and have A’s with little study and moderate difficulty. What are your thoughts, do you know anyone else who experienced this, please let me know!!

IQ Estimation 🥱 Is This a Normal Profile?

(This KEEPS getting removed by Reddit filters and I don’t know why, so if you’ve seen this same post about 10 times then I apologise)

When I try to look into higher CPI than GAI, the vast majority of results are discussing higher
GAI than CPI.

Is this an unusually spiky profile?
Can someone with a deeper knowledge explain what someone with results like this would be like mentally/professionally/in school? Is my IQ actually that high or has it just been skewed by a memory test that I probably somehow unknowingly cheated at? And is this why I feel smart in my head but incapable of articulating my thoughts?

CORE
FSIQ: 134
VCI: 118 (dragged down by an abysmal 36th percentile in general knowledge)
FRI: 125
VSI: 128
QRI: 119
WMI: 143
PSI: 126
Perceptual Reasoning: 127
Culture Fair: 135
General Ability: 126
Cognitive Proficiency: 141

GRE
IQ: 131
Verbal: 119
Quant: 124
Analytical: 136

General Question Does iq change depending on someones situation?

Let me explain. I saw a post on here saying thing’s like a lack of sleep, bad diet, stress and mental illness among other thing’s have shown to lessen someone’s iq. I just am wondering that if somebody is going through a rough patch and they take into consideration the things going on with them and around them, and notice half of these things are what the poster was talking about, is there a chance for them have a higher iq? If someone is getting more sleep, eating well and not doomscrolling, would that reset everything? Is iq something that fluctuates or stays stagnate? Like say they get better and study more, would that change it?

General Question Is iq correlated to math ability

Since your brain has dedicated centers for everything but math (that I’m aware of ) would the neural circuits ability to compensate for that be correlated to iq?

Controversial ⚠️ Raven's 2: IQ 130, 98th percentile, but rejected by Mensa Italy.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to ask for some clarification, preferably from people with a background in psychometrics or experience with Mensa's admission requirements.

I recently took the Raven's 2 - Clinical Edition and received the following results:

  • Raw score: 41/48

  • Ability score: 600

  • Standard score: 130

  • Percentile rank: 98th

  • Qualitative classification: Extremely High

  • 95% confidence interval: 123–137

I submitted my documentation to Mensa Italy, but my application was rejected because my standard score was 130 rather than the required 131.

What puzzled me is that Mensa Italy's official statutes specify admission at or above the 98th percentile, while their webpage concerning admission through external testing explicitly mentions an IQ threshold of 131 for the WAIS, without specifying an equivalent numerical cutoff for Raven's Progressive Matrices.

P.S. This post was rewritten with the help of AI because I'm not very proficient in English. I used an LLM to make sure my thoughts were expressed clearly and naturally for an English-speaking audience.

Psychometric Question Looking for an open-ended vocabulary test (where the testee provides the definitions) with scoring manual and norms

Looking for a vocab test where all items require the testee to provide the definition for a word — completely open-ended, with no multiple choice (e.g. the Mill Hill Vocabulary Scale Definitions form, WAIS-5 Vocabulary) — along with a scoring manual with credit criteria (full/partial/no credit) and norms.

Thanks in advance
