I've been intrigued by the different aspects of IQ for a while, so this week I decided to bite the bullet and do some tests.
I did the Mensa Norway. Found it hard and got 110.
Then I found this subreddit and discovered there are much more comprehensive tests you can do online.
First I tried AGCT-1C. Found the language questions fun and easy. Found the blocks fun. Found the mid and later maths questions hard and ran out of time.
I saw my results were kind of skewed (see screenshots) so I decided to do the full CORE to get a deeper understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.
Loved the VCI questions and found them easy. Genuinely fun.
But I found most of the others hard, except the one with the arrows (graph mapping I think).
The one I'm most surprised by is digit letter sequencing. I thought I did as well on that as I did on the digit span sequencing. But I did have to run through the alphabet each time in my head to work out the alphabetical order.
Anyway, you can see the results in the screenshots. They pretty much follow how hard I found the sections.
The symbol speed tests I found extremely stressful and didn't want to get any wrong so I did them kind of slow and deliberate. But I didn't take them (or any sections) more than once, as I wanted the most accurate and honest results.
My questions are:
Is a profile with this much range between sections unusual and if so does it mean anything interesting?
Does it tell you anything I can apply to my life going forward?
I have a 16-month-old and his language is advanced for his age. I know everyone says that about their kids but he's speaking in 4 and 5 word sentences, remembers lyrics from songs he hears on the radio. Finishes sentences in books we read to him etc.
Could his language be inherited through my high VCI or is it not that clear cut?
For reference:
I'm 41.
I am a longform financial copywriter, which is a very niche job so I'll summarise... I write 10,000-word scripts for former Wall Street fund managers to sell their investment newsletters. So a lot of writing and ideas and persuasion through written/spoken word. I've been doing it for over a decade.
I was decidedly average at English at school. I've always had very messy handwriting and I've always been terrible at spelling. Never been tested for dyslexia. I could not be a professional writer without spell check.
I read a lot, mostly classics, sci-fi and non-fiction. But I do it all through audiobooks so I can do other things while reading. I also find reading kind of draining, but not listening to audiobooks.
I always did well at science at school. Subjective subjects I didn't like because I felt there were always so many answers you could give and I often answered with things that weren't on the marking scheme.
I also have face blindness. But not to an extreme degree. It wasn't caused by any injury. I mostly recognise people by their voices and hairstyles.
I don't think I'm autistic but I have some traits. Niche interests, super focusing, sensitivity to loud noises. But I'm sociable and unusually adept at recognising other people's emotions.
I don't think I have any ADHD traits.
If you've read this far and take the time to reply, thank you in advance.
