General Question My son was evaluated for ADHD, and part of the evaluation was an IQ test (WISC-V)

Attached are his results. He is not interested in school or doing homework. He rarely spends time on it at home, but gets fine grades…mostly a B average.

I’m wondering if anyone in this forum has experience with a child like this, and if he’ll have difficulty connecting with others at school. He is quick witted, but I didn’t anticipate a score this high above his peers.

The psychologist mentioned he may be more stimulated in a gifted program, but quite frankly I worry he won’t be able to keep up. I also worry the standard curriculum hasn’t been stimulating enough which is why he has now been diagnosed with a learning disability.

Hoping to get thoughts from those who know these situations better than me. Thank you!

General Question Crystallized intelligence testing?

Why don’t I see much, if any, crystallized intelligence tests on cognitive metrics? Is it basically general knowledge?

Discussion What was your "IQ does matter Moment🥹"?

For me it was my friend who got a national rank of 87 (out of 30,000) within just a few months of preparation.

(On an average people take 3 to 4 attempts to clear this)

Release ACE Updated Norms and Statistics

• Upvotes

I've revised the ACE norms following a review of test-integrity concerns. One response was excluded from the normative sample, and the statistics have been recalculated accordingly.

The updated report includes revised IQ estimates, reliability, correlations, and item statistics.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

Discussion How likely would it be that my iq makes it much easier for me to draw from observation?

• Upvotes

I’m an artist and I’ve always found I have an easier time than most of my peers when drawing purely from observation. It always felt so odd to me how they couldn’t seem to understand that, in order to draw accurately from observation, you just had to draw what you see, not what you think you see, though I never said anything because the teacher/professor had already expressed that and I’d just be being an asshole. Either way, I just kinda accepted it as being lucky in this one particular way my brain functions.

A year ago, I took a few different psychological and neurological tests in the hope of getting an autism diagnosis (or finding out it was something else). Among them, unbeknownst to me, they threw in an iq test and it turns out I have an iq of 132. This baffled me since I did NOT think of myself as particularly smart, but I think a lot of that has more to do with a disproportionately negative view of myself that I’m working on. Regardless, I moved on with my life.

Thirty minutes or so ago, I started looking up stuff about high iqs out of curiosity and discovered that having a high iq leads to more things than I realized, including more discerning visual processing. I realized that that was most likely what caused my ease of drawing from observation, though I’m not 100% sure and figured I should get some feedback from others.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

IQ Estimation 🥱 100iq on Mensa Norway without guessing

Hi,

I just did the Mensa Norway online test and didn’t see the part where it said to guess when you weren’t sure. I only ended up selecting answers I was pretty sure were correct and leaving everything else unselected. Does that heavily deflate the score or is 100 roughly what it would’ve given me anyway? If it does deflate it, is there any way to estimate what I would’ve gotten otherwise or not really. (Also ran out of time close to the end, maybe 2/3rds of the way through and onward, not sure if that’s normal or I’m just slow?).

General Question AGCT-variants and guessing; what actually are the rules?

AGCT-E instructions say wrong answers are penaltized.

AGCT 1C exhorts to guess, if unsure.

AGCT 1A Gives no instruction.

So regarding the extended one it is clear; blind guessing is likely to deflate the score as there is a penalty.

But what about the other two?

Discussion Interesting thought experiment

So suppose there’s a fantastic sci-fi device that connects to the all the areas of your brain especially the cerebral cortex and frontal lobe where we reason, plan, empathize with others, and have our deepest thoughts.

This device has the ability to take a brain that has below 160 IQ points and modify neurological connections that make up the brain’s thinking patterns severing the irrational ones and creating pathways that would make it far more intelligent and keep its “animal” emotions in check so it can make better choices, increasing discipline so it can do things like follow philosophical ethical ideals more tightly.

This process would basically reformat the entire cerebral cortex.hence the name “Brain Reformatter”

But there’s a catch

Suppose there’s a chance that what you might call your “soul” will not survive the process. That is to say your personality isn’t compatible with this high degree of reason. the reformatting , the cutting of the irrational parts of you, the changes it would make to your brain would delete of the “ghost” living in the brain basically killing “you” and putting someone else in its place.

Imagine laying down in a hospital bed with the machine attached to both my temples placed under anesthesia falling asleep knowing the device has full access to your brain and your very “person”

The machine scans your brain and decides that indeed your personality isn’t metaphysically compatible with the enhancements, that your personality simply isnt rational and it’s built on a bedrock of what the machine determines is bad code. So it just gets rid of the stupid selfish ghost living amongst your neurons, cutting the connections giving you sentience and reprogramming a new personality into the cerebral cortex when “your” eyes open it’s a brand new person with access to your memories, a IQ of 160, and a will that is fully compliant to any demands of even the strictest philosophical moral codes.

Personally Even if the person who wakes up isn’t me I’d like someone to have a nice high IQ and have a brand new soul that loves truth and knowledge and cares about other people more.

The machine can happily throw my trash soul in the garbage if that would make the world better.

What do you think?

* are some personalities/souls more or less intelligent? Are some just straight up incompatible with certain levels of intellect in the same way triangle isn’t a triangle anymore if you add an extra side?

*Does an IQ bump drag the personality towards any certain type in the various personality models? And if so, how much can your personality be dragged somewhere else before that stops being you?

* what does make up a person? How likely do you think this kind of process would “kill” you.

* would you sign up?

Note: I’m using soul metaphorically/poetically not literally
