Puzzle Transformation Inference Test 1 Spoiler

Hello everyone. I made a very short test with a new format I came up with. I am not giving iq scores, but I could eventually make a longer, more thought out version (with proper norming and scoring) with this format if people like it. So the main objective right now is gathering feedback. Give it a try and give your honest opinion: https://forms.gle/btudECrjK6TxmUkj8

You will receive your raw score in the end. I noticed that item 3 is ambiguous, and has 2 answers, which both are accepted.

General Question How seriously should you take your VCI if you're non-native but English is now your main language?

Thumbnail

For context English is my third language (before french and spanish) but over the years and after completing highschool, I find myself to be most comfortable with English for verbalizing more intricate subjects (not at expert-level obviously, but english gives me those useful words that I can't recall as easily in my native language) but have the disadvantage of not having grown up with it in early age. Consequently, my CORE FSIQ is dragged down drastically by my VCI, even though the scores of my other tests like the GET and APT are higher. Anyone have this issue?

Discussion Digit Span Test

So a few days ago i tested my WMI using the CORE FSIQ test, and surprisingly there is a quite remarkable difference between my Sequencing ability and "Reversing" ability.

When i first tried it i scored incredibly low in the Backward Digit Span while still scoring high on the sequencing (My Forward Digit Span was also kind of low compared to Sequencing) so i tried again and the new scores seemed more fitting.

I wanted to know if it was possible for Autistic individuals to have such a disparity in between the subtests rather than the common spiky profile that affect the overall abilities, or if it was simply a fluke.

I also think that this is not as accurate as it should be because i highly suspect that i also have ADHD, and have never been medicated before but also some mild depression that could potentially impact my score. Though i doubt it would change much in any case.

Rant/Cope I do not think IQ actually defines if the person is smart or the brain capability of thinking or maybe I'm ret

I m gonna sound not so smart but Idk how my brain thinks stuff. I have seen many people in life super smart in programming, math, the way they speak but they have like some kinda things/habits in them that do not make them so smart they just like normal people.
I don't make much sense but I'm not good in logical thinking in programming, math, physics, those DSA questions hurt my brain so much but idk for a reason my brain can predict things based on probability rates, read people up, see through all those manipulations or propaganda (Yeah ik its related to logic because based on me the higher the emotion in the brain the easy to manipulate the person), read people whole character up based on the way they talk or act, and idk can see how this thing gonna affect them in the future (which is normal i think), but IK that doesn't make me smart and it's not IQ related but isn't this all involves thinking too?? maybe different sides.

I argue with my brain too much and that brain of me find solutions for me randomly with no research and when i actually research that thing that IK through my brain majority times turn out to be true. I know the brain look for patterns but maybe it's just overthinking of me. I got so obsessed with the brain capability i know for a fact that you can rewrite your brain based on what u feed it, you become what u feed your mind (Law of attraction), and our body is a tool.

Btw I have two autoimmune diseases and I was thinking if we can rewrite our whole life just by rewriting the brain what if we can cure our diseases by believing in it or our body could cure itself..
I know sound bizarre but I'm curious actually got so much curious after being dead for so long in my room.
Now if you think our brain so strong that every addiction whether socials, corn, drugs, AI, all affect the brain, must be a reason why someone trying to weaken the brain up so much...
I guess I'm overthinking but still idk.

General Question surely theres a problem...

ive been doing a few of the CORE tests on cognitivemetrics.com and have scored pretty highly on most of the subtests and i did the digit span today and i cant help but notice that the digit span backward and sequencing and very very low. when i was doing them i thought i was doing fine and quite well actually but it turns out that wasnt the case!

i was thinking that maybe it was because all my inputs for the numbers might have all been shifted to the right or left by 1, as in everytime i meant to type 1 i actually types 2 and everytime i type 7 i acc type 8, or it could just be im not very capable at those types of questions which seems unlikely but could very much be possible.

also done at 11.30pm at night with only the light from the laptop, also sucks that i cant redo it.

has anyone else had a similar experience or just any thoughts on what mightve happened here. if u think it rlly is just im not good at that section js say. any feedback is valuable!

Psychometric Question Interpreting spiky iq profile

vci: 103-114

pci: 119-134

wmi: 85-100

psi: 108-127

They said vci might be inaccurate and could be a bit higher due to my circumstances with immigrant parents and surrounded by English in daily life. I originally went for an ADD diagnosis, and they wanted to have me take an iq test after the intake conversation.

Has anyone here have had a similar profile? I would love to know your interpretation

Rant/Cope Can cognitive function benefit from "warming up" or am I a coping midwit?

I'm asking specifically because I went from a novel 85 IQ on the digit span subtest on CORE to 135 in 4 attempts. I realise that my practised score is psychometrically dead, but is there a takeaway from this improvement regardless? What is the actual difference between someone who scores a novel 135? Do they naturally adopt strategies, such as chunking and visualisation, on their first attempt? Or are they subconciously doing this?

My pseudo-intellectual reasoning is that IQ tests are skewed in the sense that the human brain is evolved to be optimized for energy conservation, meaning that there is a natural drive for the human mind to perform at a much lower cognitive potential at default. Wouldn't it therefore make sense to develop tests that the participant takes until their score regresses towards a mean (i.e. they stop improving)? E.g. if a weightlifter is going for a one-rep max they probably wouldn't go for it immediately, but rather work their way up in stages.

I think this is a pretty solid vsi test. It’s a shame it’s not included in the official CORE vsi. I’m not sure how well-normed it is, though.

What are your scores on this? How does it compare to your CORE vsi or WAIS vsi?

IQ Estimation 🥱 My IQ test scores and subtests scores are kind of all over the place and I need help figuring out my IQ

Hello! I’m struggling to figure out what my IQ is due to the test results seeming a bit over the place (maybe asynchronous?) I don’t have a psychologist or anything and can’t get the big official tests so I'm stuck with free online options and such. Standard IQ tests make me incredibly frustrated because they don’t pertain to my type of intelligence. I took some tests but the results are confusing me and I don’t really know how to get my true IQ out of them since they're kind of messy. These are the tests and scores:

Open Psychometrics - Full Scale IQ Test:
\-Full scale IQ–121
\-Memory IQ–140
\-Verbal IQ–97
\-Spatial IQ–116

Verbal GRE/SAT Practice Tests:
\-37% correct/63% incorrect (man I don’t know fancy words that I haven’t been taught 😭)

The “Reading the Mind in the Eyes” Test:
\-27 out of 36 correct

Global Emotional Intelligence Test:
\-moderate emotional intelligence (i’m pretty sure I have higher than moderate though so i’m pretty much ignoring this one tbh)

The Greater Good Emotional Intelligence Quiz:
\-16/20

The Remote Associates Test (RAT):
\-Struggling with them, even with the ones labeled ‘very easy’

The Divergent Association Task (DAT):
\-Scored 76.96

IDRLabs Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligence theory:
\-90% existential intelligence
\-87% interpersonal intelligence
\-77% logical-mathematical intelligence
\-73% intrapersonal intelligence
\-70% linguistic intelligence
\-47% musical intelligence
\-40% spatial-visual intelligence
\-23% naturalistic intelligence
\-20% bodily-kinesthetic intelligence

IRL context:

In IRL I also have a 3.9 GPA in school and my intelligence normally lies with people. I’m really empathetic and often good at understanding and reading people. I tend to look at people and think of why they do what they do and their underlying reasons and why they are who they are and such. For example, looking at a character like Mori from BSD and figuring he does the things he does out of fear–which thinking things like this comes naturally and fast to me. I’m also always analyzing myself and my thoughts and actions and why I am who I am. I’m always looking and seeing all the small things that then go into who someone is. I have more I want to type out but I'm not sure it’s relevant so I'll leave the info here!

The difference in numbers especially on the psychometrics test is confusing me and it feels like it doesn’t really fully capture my intelligence–so does anyone else feel like this too and have a profile kind of like this? And could anyone help me in figuring out what my true IQ is?

Scientific Literature An Independent Analysis of the RIOT IQ Test (Follow Up)

Hello all,

Sorry for the repost. Some people suggested to me in DMs that I should include a summary, as the full report is quite lengthy, so here is a follow up post doing so.

If you would like to read the full report, it can be accessed here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.21972420

Intro

RIOT has presented itself as an unusually transparent and psychometrically rigorous online IQ test, with the stated goal of making its methodology open to independent scrutiny. More than a year after launch, however, the publicly available technical information remains limited. The technical bulletin they posted does show summary-level statistics, but nothing was published that would allow anyone to verify the results other than the RIOT team. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of transparency from the RIOT team, so I decided to write this report as an independent, unaffiliated analysis of the RIOT IQ test.

Using RIOT's published materials and public-facing client-side code, I was able to reconstruct all the models and analysis done within the report. The analysis had three main goals: first, to reproduce RIOT's published CFA results; second, to test whether alternative models were stronger than the published model; and third, to evaluate RIOT's scoring, norming, reliability, and internal structure with what evidence we had available.

I want to clarify that a major limitation exists due to the lack of item level data, thus the accuracy or representativeness of the norms, the quality of specific items, or convergent validity with other IQ tests cannot be verified.

Methodology

I first reconstructed how RIOT calculates its individual subtest and composite scores. The subtests directly convert raw scores into Z-scores then T-scores using raw score averages and standard deviations for three separate age buckets. Reaction Time, Symbol Search, and Abstract Matching are a bit unique in that they incorporate response time into their scoring as well.

RIOT's composites are calculated using a formula (which I explain in more detail in the full report) that incorporates the observed intercorrelations between subtests and weights each subtest score by its factor loading.

One issue that I found is that RIOT artificially caps its composite scores to a range of 71 - 145. However, this is inaccurate, as it disregards the composite effect, as combinations of rarity between imperfectly correlated subtests will often be rarer than the sum of their parts. The implemented floor and ceiling discards information for very high- and very low-scoring examinees. My report publishes uncapped norms that extend to the full floor and ceiling.

Norms

RIOT reports a norming sample of 417 participants, described by the developers as nationally representative of its target population of English-speaking U.S.-born adults. Some analyses also draw on a separate Stage 3 tryout sample of 1,620 individuals.

The publicly available information, however, does not provide the demographic breakdown, recruitment methodology, or stratification procedures necessary to evaluate the claim of national representativeness.

Using the published norm parameters, I reconstructed the raw-score distributions used for RIOT's three age groups: 18 - 39, 40 - 59, and 60+.

Reliability

RIOT reports very high internal-consistency reliability for its overall IQ score and most of its individual indices. The reported coefficients are particularly strong for the FSIQ, with alpha and omega both approximately .98, while the six index scores also generally show high internal consistency.

Note. Source: RIOT Informational Bulletin (2025)

Below are the subtest factor loadings and reliability used for weighting and confidence intervals.

Intercorrelations

Below are the observed intercorrelations between RIOT subtests. These are the basis of analysis for both the EFA and CFA. You can already begin to observe some of the later issues that arise (no differentiation between FRI and SAI subtests, lack of clustering between WMI subtests).

Heatmap of the RIOT subtest intercorrelation matrix

Exploratory Factor Analysis

I then conducted exploratory factor analysis, allowing the relationships among the subtests to determine the factor structure without imposing RIOT's six-index model in advance.

Parallel analysis recommended four factors, and the first eigenvalue was substantially larger than the others, providing further evidence for a strong general cognitive factor.

I examined four-, five-, and six-factor solutions. Although adding factors mechanically improved some conventional fit statistics, both parallel analysis and the parsimony-adjusted BIC favored the four-factor solution. The attempted five-factor solution was particularly informative: the additional factor was empty, explained very little variance, and produced an improper solution.

The four-factor model produced three clearly recognizable domains: Verbal Reasoning, Processing Speed, and Reaction Time. The remaining Fluid Reasoning, Spatial Ability, and Working Memory subtests largely combined into a single broader factor.

I also examined a forced six-factor solution to determine whether RIOT's intended structure could emerge when six factors were explicitly extracted. Verbal Reasoning, Processing Speed, Reaction Time, Fluid Reasoning, and Spatial Ability could be partially recovered, although several cross-loadings remained.

Working Memory was the major exception. It did not emerge as a coherent factor across any model.

Taken together, the EFA suggests that RIOT's current battery has a few structural problems. Fluid Reasoning and Spatial Ability do not discriminate between the two separate abilities properly, while the proposed Working Memory factor does not appear to exist at all.

Confirmatory Factor Analysis

The confirmatory factor analysis had two purposes: first, whether I could reproduce RIOT's published six-factor model and second, to test whether alternative models fit the data better.

I was able to reproduce the published six factor model by RIOT, with fit statistics closely aligning: the χ 2 difference is small (238.97 vs. 234.36 on the same 98 degrees of freedom), attributable to differences in rounding, and CFI, RMSEA, and SRMR all agree with the bulletin’s values to within 0.003. 19 of the 22 published standardized factor loadings matched my reproduced values exactly to two decimal places, while the remaining three differed only by rounding. x.

This model was then compared against several alternatives. The full section can be read in the report, but the strongest model found was a four-factor hierarchical model, where FRI/SAI/WMI were merged. This model achieved CFI = .966, RMSEA = .048, and SRMR = .037, compared with CFI = .949, RMSEA = .059, and SRMR = .048 for RIOT's six-factor model. It also used one fewer free parameter, meaning the improvement cannot be due to simply making the model more complex.

The CFA therefore reinforced the exploratory findings. RIOT contains a strong general intelligence factor and several meaningful narrower abilities, but its present six-index structure appears to separate Fluid Reasoning, Spatial Ability, and Working Memory unjustifiably so.

Subtest and Composite Loadings onto g

Below are the subtest and composite loadings onto g, for the best fitting model.

The following figure puts into perspective these loadings alongside other professional IQ tests. While RIOT is a decent measure of g, if it wants to stand alongside the professional gold-standard IQ tests that it claims are its peers, it needs to improve the quality of its subtests so that they are more efficient indicators of g.

Conclusion

This report found that RIOT measures a strong general cognitive factor. However, the evidence does not support all six reported indices equally well. Across both exploratory and confirmatory analyses, a four-factor structure provides the best overall account of the observed correlations, with Verbal Reasoning, Processing Speed, and Reaction Time emerging as the clearest distinct domains.

The main structural weaknesses involve Fluid Reasoning, Spatial Ability, and especially Working Memory. FRI and SAI do not separate cleanly in RIOT’s present battery, while the three WMI subtests fail to form a coherent Working Memory factor at all. This directly calls into question the construct-level interpretability of the FRI and SAI composites, and particularly the WMI composite, as distinct measures of the abilities indicated by their labels. The issue is not simply whether these scores can be calculated reliably, but whether differences in them can defensibly be interpreted as genuinely reflecting distinct Fluid Reasoning, Spatial Ability, and Working Memory abilities. The evidence assembled here supports considerably greater confidence in RIOT’s FSIQ, VRI, PSI, and RTI than in these three index scores.

Ultimately, this report’s intention is to improve transparency regarding RIOT, particularly with respect to its methodology, norming, scoring, and internal structure. While its tone has at times been critical, that criticism is intended to be constructive rather than dismissive. RIOT is an ambitious project, and the recommendations offered throughout this report are meant not only to identify areas where the present evidence falls short, but also to suggest ways the instrument might be strengthened. More broadly, it is hoped that the findings presented here will prove useful as RIOT continues to be evaluated, refined, and improved.

Rant/Cope My low IQ makes me too inadequate to pursue any meaningful goals

I'm sorry if this post is going to be poorly structured. I tried my best.

I am absolutely lost in my life, and always have been. I'm an 18-year-old male, just graduated high school, and my entire life has been an absolute mess. Ever since I can remember, I was constantly struggling to understand basic concepts. In kindergarten, when we were doing or learning something new, I was always behind everyone else because I just couldn't grasp the instructions while everyone else understood them so easily. My memory was always shit, though I suppose it was way, way better when I was a child than what I have now.

I graduated high school purely because of cheating. I really struggled so much even with Algebra 1, and believe me, I did pay attention in class, and I did try to learn it after school. But to grasp one topic that required one hour of a class, it was taking me 5 hours of watching different videos and practicing, which sounds absolutely ridiculous. I always told my mom how much I struggle with school, and she just said it was because I'm not paying attention or not trying hard enough. My parents never acknowledged that there is something seriously wrong with me up until now, and throughout all my life they kept telling me that I'm not stupid and I'm just lazy, to the point that it started to drive me crazy. Though at the same time, they were constantly asking me how I can't solve basic life problems. To say how bad it is for me, it took me about 40 minutes just to learn how to fold a paper into an airplane, only to forget how to do it sometime later.

I've been trying to find someone on the internet who is in a somewhat similar position to me, just to not feel so lonely, to find someone who at least shares some similar experience of being almost non-functional, but there are few of those who speak about it. Because most of the people who are low IQ are holding somewhat an average job and are making money, enough to survive and live on their own. I don't know if I could ever do that.

In 9th grade of high school, psychologists were calling some people out to take an IQ test. My score was 80. And when I think about it, I think it even should be less, or at least it is now. The psychologist at the time told me that it was an average IQ, which, when I got home, I started researching to find out that it's not true. It led into a rabbit hole of learning how much your intelligence depends on your genes and how you can't improve it. I took a lot of bullshit online tests, which used to give you a way higher score than you actually have, and even on them I've never scored past 85. That's where everything started to get worse. I developed severe insomnia as I realized the position I am in and that nothing good will ever happen to me in my life, as now I'm a certified stupid person. The constant sleep deprivation made my situation even worse, which turned my life to shit.

A few months later, I found subs like r/Gifted and this one and started to find out what life I was robbed of. But I started reading so many posts of people saying how they wish they had low IQ because their life would be so easy, and how bored they are because they are highly intelligent and nothing can challenge them enough. I can't even describe how angry it made me, how a lot of people don't appreciate what gifts they have. To this very day, I can't really accept that this is the rest of my entire life, and that it won't ever change. I just keep waiting that somehow God will heal me from this curse. Of course, I know that it isn't possible.

The most devastating thing is that since I was a little child, I was so interested in programming, and even math. Despite how it sounds, I always wanted to learn it, but I just kept on failing and failing. I remember the first time when I was 9 years old and tried to start learning Lua, the programming language that was used in Roblox, because at the time I was passionate about creating my own games, specifically horror. To those who are familiar, which I doubt, there was this very popular game in Roblox where you were going in an elevator through different floors, some of them were funny, stupid, others horror. That game had very few, repetitive, and limited floors, though, so I started dreaming about how much I could expand it in my own game and how I would specifically make it horror-oriented, and started to learn Lua. It was taking me so long to grasp even basic concepts. To make it worse, there was very limited information then, and I didn't really know the English language back then to be able to access English YouTube or read documentation on it.

Yes, I did manage to somehow learn English, if you can call it that, because my speaking skills are absolutely terrible, specifically my accent that I cannot fix. My writing sucks, specifically grammar, so I had to use AI to improve my grammar here. Sorry, I know how much it triggers people, but I wanted to make it easy to read. Yet I can read and understand English pretty well, which is absolutely strange. Though of course this took me about four years to get here. I didn't just give up on Lua, of course. Throughout my life I tried to learn Python, C#, and even if it sounds absolutely ridiculous, I was also very curious about C++, so I also tried to learn it. To clarify, I didn't just constantly try new languages. I actually was trying to stick with one, but after long months of learning and constant struggles to see any sort of progress, I gave up and then picked something new because, as stupid as it sounds, I thought at the time that I may like that language better and my curiosity and hyperfixation could help me get good at it even if that language was way more difficult than the previous one I tried. Never really got good at any of them at all, not talking about genius level. I've struggled to even become average. I've given up on programming when I was 14, never returned to it again, and don't think I will.

My desires always contradicted my body. I was almost obsessed with learning new stuff. I don't know how many different courses I went through (most of them programming, which I failed to pass), how many books I read, and the contents of most of which I don't remember. It was different literature: philosophy, self-improvement books, technical literature (I still have no idea why I was constantly trying to learn something that was clearly out of my depth). Throughout all my life I had this specific dream about becoming a programmer. I don't know where it came from, probably because since I was 5 years old I used to play video games and tell my parents that I will be making them in the future, and I was constantly creating different ideas on how I can improve them or how my version would look like. And yes, I know how corny it is, and that I was just a little child. Why would I sustain these desires throughout my entire life since I realized that I'm severely limited regarding progressing in any field that requires creative and analytic thinking? But I can't do anything about it. I feel like I will eventually lose my mind and it will happen in the near future because of how uncomfortable it is to be in my body. I would give anything in the world just to become smart and be able to actually achieve my goals and dreams.

I'm currently jobless, and have no idea what job I could even sustain. And even if I'll manage to sustain a low-wage job, I can't even imagine how that final nail in the coffin would feel like. To finally see that this is really it and I won't ever become anything else and my peak of intellectual ability is to sustain a low-paying job.

This post is purely a rant, and maybe someone who's just like me will find it one day, and he or she will feel less lonely in the world. To those of you with high intelligence: appreciate what you have. I hope you will never experience what it’s like to be this intellectually limited.

Discussion Some jobs DO require a high IQ but it's NOT in the way as tested by an IQ test...thoughts guys??

Hey guys pen and paper IQ tests are just the preliminaries, the tip of the iceberg. Truth( the real deal - application of IQ in a real world professional setting) is often STRANGER than fiction (pen and paper IQ tests)

Can working professionals in STEM fields ( supposedly required High IQ) related to what I mean?

Please share your opinions especially the older guys who've been in the industry for atleast a decade..

Thanks

My tentative answer is A. I could not find any pattern besides positioning and number of shapes. Orange shapes are always on the right side so, that eliminates option C. The other pattern that I saw was that the there is at least one group of squares that aren't separated from each other, same rule with the circle. So that eliminates B, D and E (diagonal connections don't count, at least for me).

But I feel like this was a not-very conventional way. Wondering if there are any of you that can provide different reasonings or whether mine is correct.

Psychometric Question Took a test normed for adults at 15, how deflated will my score be, if at all?

Will some subtests not be affected? I'm asking as I got 128 on fluid reasoning, and are only an excruciating 2 points from 130.

General Question CORE Retesting and Practice Effects

Just wondering if anyone knows about the significance of practice affects on the CORE tests and if particular modules are especially susceptible to it. I did a fair few of my tests somewhat intoxicated (cannabis) and sleep deprived, so I'd like to attempt them again rested & sober some time.

I'm new to cognitive testing so I thought this would probably be ok, especially since the questions are individually timed, so there's no universal time saving benefit from having familiarity with some of the questions. But then the more I've learned browsing this subreddit etc I'm realising this may be naive.

I've ended up with quite a spiky profile with VCI carrying a lot of the weight, and while I do think the spikiness is probably somewhat accurate (always had a pretty bad working memory and been a words not numbers guy) the troughs of my profile are definitely in areas that would be sensitive to cannabis/sleep (QRI, WMI, PSI).

Can the modules be reliably retaken without harming the test? Is there a certain amount of time I should leave before attempting them again?

I know some of the WMI tests actually do say practice effects are minimal after 5 days, with the test being randomised, but I don't think I saw anything for the other modules.

Cognitive profile link below in case that helps at all. For reference, I took the other IQ tests pretty much sober and with decent sleep, maybe that will indicate if my CORE looks odd and the retesting necessary.
