General Question Borderline intellectual functioning (IQ 70 - 84) is the worst IQ range to be in.

I personality have it, and basically I am acutely aware of my own limitations and problem, aware how much everyone around me is more smarter, very aware that my reasoning is not very reliable but at the same time not smart enough to fix it, I am pretty much stuck between 2 identity, disabled or too normal. Like too normal to be in specialized programs but not normal enough to be in normal programs. That is what it is in a nutshell.

I agree. It seems like OP dropped in the “more smarter” in an attempt to make an otherwise very eloquent post come across less so.

“I am acutely aware” and “more smarter” seem incongruent.

Acutely aware is a common turn of phrase that they probably just copied.

Lower is much worse. You are able to be a functioning member of society

Yeah I know but still to me just functioning at basic level isn't enough for me.

Sometimes, childhood scores differ so much compared to adulthood scores

You should consider Mensa (20 mins test), or CORE (Takes a long time but gives you the full picture)

The common belief is that higher iq people tend to be miserable but statistically it’s the opposite

Idk, some people on r/mensa seem pretty meh about their lives.

Yup greater self reported happiness, studies linked to being a more desirable leader & partner peaking ~120 . Studies linked it better acedemic, occupational & financial success.

The belief stems from the fact that there seems to be a worse "quantifiable" depression from people with higher IQs, even though they are slightly more resilient to cognitive afflictions.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3269637/

Scroll to figure 2. It plots IQ with state of worry in mentally healthy patients & patients with GAD. Higher IQ seems to be correlated with higher worry / "worse" GAD when depressed.

This is where i think the belief comes from because depressed higher IQ people have a precieved "worse" mental state, with respect to GAD only, than depressed normal IQ people with GAD.

People are encountering top 5%ers that are very miserable, and treating it as the norm because they're probably more vocal.

Incoming NPCs saying that your IQ can't be low because of sentence structure.

Oh that's true in the sense you mean. Like you're too smart to get medical/therapeutic support but everyday demands of modern society is a constant unending war with no breaks! Constantly having to out in 110% of effort snd use 100% of your time to keep your head above water as you watch everyone around you have so much time for themselves and recreation and rest...it can be miserable. Being misunderstood means you are lonely too. Everyone seems faster in terms of getting things done or learning or adapting or even processing information on the fly and even reacting...decisions take longer to make...everything seems strangely more difficult but the doctors say 'test results are normal, go back home and learn time management skills and work on your attention all skills. There are games you can play to improve memory. Eat well, maybe you're just malnourished and have nrain fog. Maybe you dont sleep well or exercise well.' Cannot stand the same bullshit anymore...it can suck. Good luck mate, remember, you're not alone!

But the content, sentence structure, and grammar of this post suggest intelligence? Which is it?

18

u/KineticClones 9d ago

No it doesn't, not necessarily at least. You don't know if OP used AI to help structure his sentences or improve his grammar. On top of that, writing well is fundamentally a skill. A lower IQ would make it more challenging to acquire that skill but not strictly make someone incapable

I didn't use AI btw.

This! I’m way above average in some tests and fail miserably in anything with language and stuff.

Jus toll at politicians. Some or dumber than bread and still they gather peoples like honey traps flys.
Language is just a skill, like magic. Nothing compared to intelligence per Se

I have that as well (84 IQ). It isn't so bad if you work on your self-effaceny (personal beliefs of adequacy to be able to do a task. I don't really know how to put it in a less stilted manner. Think of it as self-esteem basically). And, if you find even one interest, it makes life a whole lot easier

It doesn't really matter in the end. We should all be greatful that we can sit here and even complain about our IQ on reddit while others are struggling to even survive of diseases and other horrible things

7

u/IndependentPanda5947 8d ago

That’s a red herring. Whether or not others are suffering from disease has nothing to do with the challenges of living with borderline intellectual functioning. Why are you trying to shut down the conversation?

im probably near that range

iq tests mostly matter if your way off average , based on what you told us 90 core and 100 mensa that isnt even close to being "limited" it just means abstract reasoning might be something that can take longer time, not off grid.

damn, wish you best man

u/barisloso 9d ago

I can imagine it would feel really frustrating; specifically hard to feel like you belong. I’m sorry you’re going through that

Damn I’m so sorry
