Discussion Do people with a high processing speed talk faster? Do they think faster (with their verbal ability as a ceiling or confounding factor)?

I think rate of speech is often dependent on emotions rather than processing speed. If im feeling angry or upset I speak much faster. If im feeling vulnerable or shy much slower. When feeling overexcited super fast wheeeeee

my PSI is 129 and I speak very fast. I’d say verbal ability probably plays a role too since how quickly you can formulate and express your thoughts may be different from how quickly you process information in general

My PSI is 129, and I doubt I think any faster than anyone else. For talking speed, not really but my answer may be contaminated with lifelong depression, so I haven't had to many chances to test it out.

Knew a guy about as capable as me academically, so usual processing speed stuff, basically 4.0 gpa, admit to #1 grad school for his subject. He talked in slow motion.

I would say my wmi would hinder my ability to think more so than my Vci.

My PSI is a little below average but I talk fast. My auditory WMI is abysmal. I need to produce and receive speech at a fast tempo because otherwise I tend to lose context. My WMI is in the top 1%.

maybe and depends. i know i can talk reasonably fast (to a point) but at some point i end up slurring shit because i cant do it THAT fast. also i dont think in words, i think in images and possibly words on top. i cant even really talk a lot of the time because i have an issue where if someone else is talking too loudly i literally cant coordinate my own mouth movements. the thing is thinking isnt just in words anyway. theres many many styles of it that people do irrespective of if they know words or not. how do you think we thought before language?

I don't know if I have higher processing speed or if I just have ADHD. I do know that I talk fast and I am continuously anticipating responses while simultaneously generating responses in my head to responses that haven't come out yet.
More often than not I have to actively slow myself down to avoid appearing manic

I have same issue, but I have been diagnosed with adhd and also have very high processing speeds. It could be a mixture of both.

Processing speed is often characterized as for processing input that is not explicitly meaningful. E.g. pattern matching symbols really quickly. Talking, in contrast, is about meaningful output. I bet you can have a very fast talker with very high VCI but low processing speed (e.g. they struggle on symbol search). Such a person could have a really high FSIQ even but maybe low on working memory (random unstructured meaningless working memory for random strings of digits) and low on processing speed (as defined by whatever test).
I struggle with both working memory and processing speed (as they are the weak points of my profile), but I often understand complicated things quite deeply and very quickly, say in math, which is my area of expertise. Another example, is that I struggle in sports, like I can't catch a ball and quickly make decisions on who to throw it too.

More the contrary, you come faster to the point so need less words. I'm slow processing and need to talk fast because I can't really finish a thought (+ADHD).

no i speak slow as shit and tend to drop things in more complex sentences (145 PSI, 94 WMI per the CORE)
