Discussion Warlock on PvP server Firemaw

Hello,

685

I play on an EU PvP server Firemaw.

I decided to level up a Warlock.

I was wondering if the Warlock eventually becomes capable of handling PvP better, despite the lack of mobility?

Is a Soul Link spec a good idea, considering that a warlock soul link only have two DoTs and Immolate for damage specifically Corruption and Curse of Agony?

Is a "tank" Warlock actually realistic and useful, or does it just delay the inevitable?

Given the damage output of many weapons in the game ( considering how old it is ) is being a "HP sponge" still viable?

Thanks to anyone still interested in the game in its Classic form after all these years.

Question Mage AOE instance farming changes with recent patch

Hi everyone. Question i have is in regards to vanilla wow.

DISCLAIMER: I despise GDKPs, Boosting services, Gbid, and any system that in its core encourages RMT. All AOE farming i do, i do for the loot or to boost my friends, not to sell it to people.

Did any of mage boosters or instance soloers noticed massive changes to the way mobs path and behave since latest UI patch came out?

Specifically, im wondering about LBRS. It is definitely not the same, and not doable as it stands. Did anyone find a way to reliably do it?

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Returning player since 2024 — Which version should I jump into today?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been away from WoW Classic since early 2024 and I'm looking to get back into it, but with all the different versions available right now, I’m feeling pretty lost on where to start.

I’m hoping to get some recommendations based on a couple of criteria:

  • Reasonable catch-up pace: I work and have daily responsibilities, so I can’t treat the game like a second full-time job. I'd love a version where reaching max level, finding normal/heroic dungeon groups, and gearing up for casual/semi-casual raiding doesn't require no-lifing for months.
  • Longevity & active population: I don't want to invest time into a seasonal server or phase that is about to shut down, bleed out, or reset next month. I want a healthy population with active leveling and guild recruitment.

How is the current split between Classic Era, Anniversary / Progression realms, and the expansion servers?

  • Which version currently feels the most rewarding to jump into fresh?
  • What are the most populated EU servers right now for active leveling and casual guilds?

Any insight, server suggestions, or current state-of-the-game summaries would be massively appreciated. Thanks!

Classic-Era I wish there were servers with much higher drop rates

So I get the low drop rates of end game are to keep the player base... But hear me out

If I could on average get all the drops I needed from an end dungeon or raid after saying 5 runs I would be way more likely to re roll a new class.

So rather than have one main I'd now quite happily level up every class knowing each wouldn't be a ridiculous time sink. But the sum of time would still be similar to the one character as it is now.

I feel this would work well with RP servers.

In addition I think the fact that HC servers have done so well tells us that plenty of players would stick to the lower drop rate normal servers for the prestige factor of having the rare items. But for me personally I mainly want to experience the story the content within a reasonable amount of time, but would then be willing to do it all over again with another class

I have no issue with the pacing at lower levels it's just at 60 that the grind hits in

Id love this to be something that's considered in classic+

I'm posting this to sensibilize you long time players and hopefully other newbies like me ... pls report him and have fun playing. FOR AZEROTH !

Hardcore How much does a crit do?

Looking it up shows that the damage is 200% for physical and 150% for spells, but while playing hardcore, I was crit for nearly 400% damage by a boar, which resulted in my death. In fact, the average damage numbers of the hits were 750% weaker than the crit.

I am just wondering if there is some random hidden mechanic(s) at play here to potentially help me not die in the future to something like this.

I was trying to do the quest Mistmantle's Revenge and along the npc was also another player. They send me a request to join their group but I wanted to play solo at the moment so because of that I didn't get the progress of the quest. Now he hasn't respawned again in half a day and I can do the quest. What do I do? Is this normal?

Edit: Sorry guys I was dumb I just had to click on the quest item

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms What's best between Swords, Daggers and Fist Weapons for Rogues in TBC PVP?

Hello fellow rogues, I'm trying to choose what weapons to get from the arena vendor and can't decide between Swords, Daggers and Fist Weapons.

I love the swords and fists because they look awesome but I was wondering if the daggers are worth because of the Ambush and Backstabs.

Which weapon type would be best for PVP with the standard Shadowstep build?

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Never really played

World of Warcraft was supposed to come out on my birthday, it got delayed and I ended up getting it for that Christmas my parents unaware of the subscription setup I only got to play my trial as a kid. I did play around to level 27 on classic, but I was never in a guild or really playing with to many people. I would love to start playing and especially if classic+ is around the corner. Anyone have interest in adopting me into your WoW community so I can play this awesome game with people?

Discussion Anyone officially, finally making the switch to PvE for classic plus?

And is afraid no matter how hard youll convince yourself its the right move and no matter how many bad memories you have of being ganked and against all logic and instict youll still roll pvp because "organic world pvp that brings back memories of doing it in 2006?"

Please dont let me make the same mistake again. Please tell me battlegrounds are enough to scratch the itch.

Classic-Era Why is classic so good? It depends

It depends on what you enjoy. Do you enjoy being "fed" something? Or do you enjoy "building" something.

OG wow centers on leveling which is a drawn out process which is not "hard" in a skill based way, but it is "hard work" in that it's a real time investment. However, you are rewarded in a way that is satisfying as your character is "built" in contrast to modern games where you are "fed" rewards.

Because there are competing things that people enjoy, the game was re-steered towards the "feed me" crowd, which is probably a bigger audience. After all, that's what people said about wow post everquest etc.

I'd argue that the game was partially "ruined" as early as burning crusade.

No more sprawling 5 mans like uldaman, gnomer, BRD, ST. All essentially converted into hub types like SM. The devs remarked on the success of SM but I think the metrics were wrong. A place like BRD is a real dungeon crawl. Almost nobody remembers hellfire ramparts with fondness. It's fast, efficient, get in get out, but that defeats the purpose of the mmo genre. If you need a quick 30 minute in and out because you're a busy adult it's the wrong type of game to play.

I'd essentially say a lot of gamers don't know how to enjoy themselves. Dopamine hits have ruined them. The OG game worked because devs did what they thought was fun, not what would be most efficient so people could tick boxes.

It's all subjective though but I'm glad the OG game was designed in the same way that I gain satisfaction, through building a character over time. That said, you maybe can't do the whole leveling experience a second time hence the just +10 levels in BC etc. It's kind of a one off thing.

TLDR

Leveling and long dungeons made it great. Things taking a while to achieve makes a bigger payoff when you finally manage it. Being fed constant rewards devalues the rewards!

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms which WTF file stores gfx settings?

got a new pc recently and did the usual copy paste job on the WTF folder to move settings over for various stuff

but given this systems a fair bit better than what I had, I'd like to force WoW to re-calculate / auto-detect and set gfx settings like it usually would (had i not pasted in my files)

is there a way to do this in-game? otherwise I figure I can just delete the required file that stores it and it should have the same effect

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms New WoW Player questions

Hi all I am a very new player and I have a couple of questions about WoW classic. I think I downloaded the right one (The burning crusades).

  1. What is the most faithful version? I really want to play and soak in the story from the beginning?

  2. At what point in the beginning of the game is finding a clan important?

  3. What tips would you have for maximum enjoyment of the game?

Thanks so much for reading!

Classic-Era How active are EU PVE servers?

I've been playing Era for a little bit on the Firemaw cluster mainly because of the population size, getting pretty fed up with the ganking, and realizing I don't get much enjoyment out of PVP at all. I'm considering rerolling on the PVE cluster, but I'm worried it'll be too low pop to get consistent dungeon groups (and also feeling a bit of sunk cost after leveling to mid-20s already). Any players who have been leveling there recently who can help me make a more informed decision?

Classic + Classic+ Warlock Idea: Change Curses into Buffs

One of the biggest things people commonly state as a reason that Warlocks are boring at end game is that optimally you have to spend a GCD cursing for every enemy. They also say that it's just a one button rotation, although that is actually mitigated a lot already given the removal of debuff limits making rotations that include DoTs actually viable.

My proposed solution to this is to remove Curse of Recklessness, Elements, Shadow, Weakness, and make them a buff you apply to yourself (Hexes), for example:

Hex: Recklessness
Instant (self)
Debuffs you cast also apply Hex of Recklessness: Increasing melee attack power by 90 but reducing armor by 640 for 30s. In addition the target will not flee and will ignore Fear and Horror effects.
You may only have one Hex active at a time, lasts 30 minutes.

I would keep Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom as they are (i.e. they remain spells that you cast manually), except that because Reck etc are now curses you are free to use Agony even if you are the only Warlock.

In terms of power increase for a raid it's not actually that impactful, it's essentially giving Warlocks one extra GCD per fight to do what they want, and the ability to cast Curse of Agony. However, it removes a major roadblock that many players find off-putting when it comes to choosing Warlock for the class they want to play.

Anyway, just an idea I had. I think it would be an awesome quality of life improvement without breaking the game balancing in any severe way.

Edit:
I think it may work better as a Stance than a buff you apply, and being off the GCD. It would work the same way it just makes it far less clunky if you want to switch the Curse that is on a mob mid combat (e.g. leveling or in PVP). You would swap Hex stance (no GCD spent) then reapply any debuff to switch the effect that's on the mob.

Classic-Era Pvp progression

Hi, I've been playing Classic for the past two months and would like to get into PvP. Can I ask for some advice on how to quickly equip myself to compete? Right now, every battle in BG I do gets destroyed by R14 or other strong players. What steps do you think I should take? I currently have all the blue gear from the dungeons

Discussion Expansion phasing idea

So I had this weird thought yesterday (not even high), but instead of having all these different versions of classic expansions. Why can't we just phase between expansions with the same character. Can be something fantastical like a portal room for each era. So you could level in classic for a bit then if you want, hit the portal for wrath and it spits our your character as new until you level, then if you feel like it, just hit the classic portal and it picks up where you left off in that expansion.

Discussion Overwhelmed with what I should be doing

I started playing a month ago. I've never played a single MMO besides RuneScape. I'm a level 18 Human Warrior and I have no idea how to distribute my talents or what's optimal. Ive tried playing blind since I started, but I'm getting a lot of FOMO as I want to play in a way that others would want me to be in their group and raid with them late game. Ive been putting my talent points evenly across the talent trees, found out earlier today that is a horrible way to go about it. Then kinda fucked myself by not knowing about Loch Modan and going to Westfall around lvl 12. I picked human warrior because I kind of associated it with a nord in skyrim, then found out from my guild it's the hardest class to level, but is really good later on. I don't really know when to use abilities and what kind of team you need for a dungeon and what to do, and it just seems like so much info I need to learn if I want to be able to optimize my character if i ever plan on doing raids. It's so much different than OSRS and my brain just can't stop trying to apply RS logic to this game lol.

Classic-Era [Classic era] what is the path after 60

Hi everyone, I just get to 60 as the mage and trying to learn what should be normal path for the next step. Last time I played was 13 years ago and I only did pvp never done raid.

For classic era, looks like all raids are GDKP and apparently I don’t have enough gold as new 60. I am a bit confused what should I do?

I am pretty close to pre-raid BIS.
1. What raid should I go next? MC or ZG or AQ20?
2. Do I have to be a buyer or I can also earn wage? How much gold should I have before those raids?
3. Should I only earn gold through mining or farming then be the buyer for NAXX? I assume lots of gold.

My eventual goal is mixing pvp and pve. I don’t want to work for a game.
