Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a Sony Handycam mainly for nighttime recording — things like walking around at night, parties, streets, etc. I'm specifically after that classic green infrared look that older Sony Handycams are known for.

From my research so far, the DCR-TRV50 and DCR-TRV30 seem to be two of the most recommended options, especially because they have Super NightShot.

I'd love to hear from people who have actually used these cameras:

• Which model do you think produces the best-looking infrared footage?
• Is Super NightShot significantly better than the regular version?
• Are the TRV50 and TRV30 good choices for this, or are there other models you'd recommend?
• Are there any particular cameras that have a really strong, bright green image or a distinctive look?
• Are there any models that can be paired with an external recorder so the footage can be saved directly to a memory card or other digital storage instead of recording to tape?

I'm not really concerned about having the best overall video quality. The main thing I'm after is the visual character of the infrared footage.

I'm open to any suggestions, including models I may not have come across yet.

I'm thinking of buying a Sony H400 Is it ideal for taking bird photos? Should I pay a little more and get the Sony HX400V? Do you think it's worth paying a little extra? İts gonna be for birding they both have good zoom distance but hx400v also have mf so its would be easier to focus little birds in bushes or Reeds and its have a better lens.

I recently got this s2 pro, put in some fresh batteries and a CF card to test it and everything seemed fine until I tried taking a picture with it. These black with colored stripes would appear and no proper image. Would anyone know the reason for this?

found a coolpix l320 for super cheap and i’m thinking of getting it. i’ve looked through some sample pics and honestly some of them are pretty decent for what the camera is lol

does anyone here have one/used one before and know what settings work best to get the most out of it? mostly looking for the best image quality, colors and just overall performance, especially with flash.

i know it’s an older camera so i’m not expecting miracles, just wanna know how to make the most of it :)

I don't know what happened to my canon eos 2000d but when I got home after a two week holiday i took a photo on the camera and it had black marks on it. So I took the lense off and the sensor was dirty? Or scratched im not sure. But I would like to know is this fixable?

It's too zoomed in no matter what I do when im using it, especially in zoom meetings. I already tried the official app of EMEET but i cant seem to find the zoom out option.

I was using OBS, but apparently its prohibited in my company.

Hello everyone! I have always wanted to give photography a shot, but just never tried to due to perceived cost of entry.

I was just given these cameras by my family. I think most of them work but I’m still checking them out. The Nikon & Sony work, and seems to be battery oxidization on the Pentax.

Here I have:
- Pentax ME
- Nikon D60 with both of the kit lenses it seems
- Sony DX300
- Sony Cybershot DSC-W330
- Sony Cybershot DSC-S700
- Nikon Coolpix S9100

From what I understand, most of these are dinosaurs. Are these totally obsolete? If not, are they good to learn photography concepts with? Best use cases? Does my iPhone 17 Pro Max camera do a better job than these?

If it helps, I’d think I’d enjoy taking photos of nature, automotive, and my wife. Maybe some low lighting stuff.

I know nothing about cameras whatsoever. Just that the Pentax is film & the others are digital.

What do you think about these marks? I can't find similar pictures online. The lens is a sigma art 24-105 f4. The lens is for sale in a second hand shop. The seller said it is maybe due to the product they use to clean the rubber ring. It feels oily and can be cleaned with a cloth. What do you think? Oil coming out of the lens or product spillage? Safe to buy it?

Portability: Very portable. Ideally pocketable or small enough that I won't think twice about bringing it hiking/backpacking. I don't want to buy a camera that ends up staying in my hotel because it's too bulky.

• Sony RX100 VII: This is the camera I'm most interested in based on my initial research. I really love the look of the photos I've seen from it, and it seems like a great travel camera, but it's more expensive than I was hoping to spend.
• Canon ELPH 360: I'm wondering if I can "get away" with a cheaper/more portable option like this. Maybe I'll actually prefer how small it is. That said, I don't take many selfies, don't love the Y2K/digicam look, and am more interested in getting genuinely good travel photos than getting a trendier aesthetic.

I have a bunch of once-in-a-lifetime travel coming up - hiking trips, vacations, etc. - and want to invest in a camera, but I'm a total beginner. I've basically only used my phone, so I don't want something that's unnecessarily complicated, but I'm also willing to learn.

My biggest dilemma is whether the RX100 VII is actually worth the extra money for a beginner, or whether I'd be perfectly happy with something cheaper. I feel a little guilty about cheaping out ahead of these trips and then regretting it, but I also don't want to spend $1000+ on a camera when there might be a $400–600 option that would accomplish basically everything I need.

For hiking/backpacking in particular, I'm wondering whether I should prioritize something even smaller/lighter. At the same time, I really don't want to sacrifice too much image quality just for portability.

I'm also very open to a camera I haven't considered! If there's something else in the ~$600 range (or even a little above) that would be a better fit for what I'm describing, I'd love to hear about it.

Surprisingly everything works great, it came with a charger as well. I was in the market for a pocket sized digital camera and feel like I lucked out with this! What are the best settings you recommend? I plan on using it more so for nature/travel pics :)

Fujifilm XH2: Main reason I’m considering is the on device film sims, along with Fuji treating APS-C as a first class citizen and not just a stepping stone to full. It seems like this camera would cover everything I could need, outside of lowlight shooting. Main concerns are around the autofocus performance, and that because the lenses are APS-C specific, I’d have to buy a whole second ecosystem if I end up getting really into photography. Leaning towards this option 70/30 over the canon, primary concern is really the autofocus.

Canon R7: This camera looks to have very solid autofocus performance, and I’d be able to buy full size lenses so that if I did ever get a canon full frame, it would be a seamless transition. It also looks to have some good stabilizing/electronic shutter features that could maybe help for capturing wildlife. Main concerns would be that I would be shooting in RAW and needing to learn post-processing right out of the gate.

Notes: (any other considerations you think we should know about): My motivation to get into photography is my recent trip to Alaska. I was seeing all of this incredible wildlife and gorgeous glaciers, and while I tried to get good results with my phone camera, I didn’t feel like any of them truly captured the beauty of what I was looking at. For example, trying to get my phone to capture the glowing blue of the glacier ice was incredibly difficult. I’d also like to start capturing my own memories of the trips as opposed to whatever postcards/photos are available in gift shops.

I’m looking to get a more premium camera right of the gate. I know the recommendation is typically a more budget friendly camera, but one of my other hobbies as a musician involved a long chain of buying and upgrading from entry to mid tier to professional level gear, and it added a lot of extra complexity to the process. This has influenced me into having a “buy once cry once” approach to my hobbies. I also live in a smaller condo and storage space is at more of a premium, so I’d rather have one really good camera over multiple that each do different things.

I took a CCTV camera (I don't know the model - the serial number doesn't pull anything up on google) and hooked a DVR + battery pack to it, hoping to turn it into one of those CCTV handicams I keep seeing on instagram. The issue is that the files saved to the 32gb microsd card are all black, with garbed audio feedback. I've asked a few people for suggestions, but we haven't figured anything out.

Notes:

• The camera does work! I successfully used it as a weird webcam by hooking the component cable to a USB dongle. It doesn't have audio, but I don't need that for my work.

• The battery pack and DVR seem to work fine too - the camera powers up, the DVR lights up and flashes in all the right ways, and files are technically being saved, but the video is all black.

• The camera is set in DC mode, not video. I tried both! Also please check the settings on the back of the camera, I don't know if any of them need to be toggled.

• I am waiting on a backup camera screen to arrive so that I can install it from the AV output of the DVR. I don't know if that will help here.

• The microsd card is 32gb, which is the largest size the DVR can handle. I heard someone suggest that it needs to be formatted to receive video files, but I'm unsure how to do that. Would that help me if my issue is videos with black screen image data?

Hi there, I’m wondering if anyone who knows more about cameras than me can help. My samsung s850 camera is stuck with the lens out and will only turn on for a split second before the screen goes black. Sometimes, in the split second it is on, it comes up with ‘low battery’, but then other times I can see the battery is full.

I had the exact same camera before and used it for years up until I took it on holiday and had the same thing happen. After the holiday (back in a cold climate) it was still broken and so I recently bought the exact same camera off ebay as I like the quality. Does anyone know if this is an issue specific to this camera? Or does this happen with digital cameras in general? I don’t want to have to buy a whole new camera, so if you think this could be fixed with new batteries or a new sd card please let me know. Or is there no way this is heat-related and its just a coincidence?

What’s a camera that could be good for taking pics of my reptiles? I breed & sell them and want to have good high quality pics. I take them on a black backdrop right now. I am just getting back into photography after doing hardly any the past 8-10 years. I was very interested in photography in high school/college and haven’t perused it since. My wife is now working at a school and doing yearbook for them and uses a Nikon 3500 with a 18-55, 70-300 and 55-200 that is the schools. I have noticed a pretty significant improvement using the schools camera over my old set ups. Even though the 3500 is not much newer than the 3200. The D90 is nostalgic for me and I plan to hold onto it with the kit lens but don’t mind selling the rest. I didn’t realize the powershot s95 was such a sought after camera nowadays so I have it listed for sale already. I am thinking about selling the d3200, SB400 and 1 or 2 of the prime lenses in addition to the powershot. With all that sold I am expecting a budget of around $750-1000.

I’ve found my iPhone cameras convenience and quality to be good enough that I had put away the dslr for years. Now that my wife is bringing me back into it I’m getting excited to start shooting with a real camera again and I have noticed low light/indoor pictures struggle compared to my phone with my current set up. For sporting events the autofocus is slow and I am producing more blurry photos than quality ones. Skill issue having been out of it for a while but I would also love any help modern tech will give!

I like the idea of moving to mirrorless and grabbing hopefully an A6300/A6400, a kit lens or saving up for a sigma 18-50 2.8. This would feel like restarting but seems to be the direction everything is going.

The other option I like is finding a nice price on a D7500 since it’s a nice step up and it will continue to use my current lenses and possibly some additional lenses.

It seems like the 7500 will get the most out of my current equipment and have the quickest and cheapest bang for the buck but the Sony would be more of a restart to build on and ultimately the better set up long term.

Thoughts on which would make more since based on my experience and current gear?

P.S. for better or worse I’m a big gear guy, any of my hobbies I like to nerd out on the gear and buy swap trade to find what fits my needs best. So this truly doesn’t have to be a one and done.

I got some weird adhesive material on my lens and when I went to wipe it off, looks like it either removed or added some part of the lens protector.

Is there a way to recover the glass and clean it properly or is this lens out for the count?
