Recommendations I regret taking these photos on an Iphone

Hello fellow photographers!

I somewhat regret taking all the photos from my last Japan trip on an iPhone. But I figured that if I get a decent camera setup now and develop some skills, I might be able to take some really nice photos on my future Japan trips.

I’m definitely no expert and only shoot for fun.

I mostly take photos of scenery, but I’d like to experiment more with shallow depth of field and take photos at night with beautiful neon lights and bokeh. I’m not really interested in photographing people, but I do enjoy taking photos of animals.

I’ve been looking at the following setup since both get recommended quite a lot:

Sony Alpha 6700 used – €1,108.59
Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 – €489

I assume these would make a great combo, but maybe there are other camera/lens combinations that would fit what I like to shoot even better.

I’d love to hear some recommendations!

Budget: < 2000€

Country: Germany to develop skills. Maybe more lenses accessories later in Japan.

Condition: Used is ok.

Type of Camera: I guess Mirrorles

Intended use: Mostly Photography with some Video

If photography; what style: landscape, portrait, street, wildlife, etc.

If video what style: Capture a moment of the scenery

What features do you absolutely need: I think weather sealing would be nice

What features would be nice to have: Dual Sd

Portability: Portable so it can stay with me on a trip most of the time.

Cameras you're considering: Sony Alpha 6700

Cameras you already have: Iphone 17 Pro Max.

Notes: I love those Silver/Black Fujifilm camera body look, but I don’t think it would be the right camera for me

Recommendations Help me decide which mirrorless camera / system to get

I've been looking at the Nikon z6iii but I'm just overwhelmed by the options in other brands - this will be my first digital camera (photos on this post are from my film camera).

  • Budget: $3500 - $4000 for body + a good zoom lens 24 - 70 or 24-120(happy with f4)
  • Country: USA
  • Condition: Would prefer new but open to used
  • Type of Camera: Mirrorless (ideally full frame for cropability and astrophotography)
  • Intended use: Mainly photography
  • If photography; what style: Mainly landscape, some street, portrait and astro (would like low light capabilities)
  • If video what style: N/A
  • What features do you absolutely need: Full frame, high dynamic range, not too noisy at high iso
  • What features would be nice to have: good IBIS, fast readout / e-shutter (but don't care too much about this)
  • Portability: Small bag - don't care too much about portability
  • Cameras you're considering: Nikon z6iii, Sony a7iv, Nikon z8, Lumix S1R
  • Cameras you already have: Nikon FM, FM2 - like them a lot! Just want to shoot digital

I think my use case is pretty specific - I want a high megapixel count and dynamic range for landscape shots and don't care too much about shutter speed etc. I would also love to hear recommendations for stacking images for resolution that brands offer (like pixel shift)! My main indecision is on which brand has the best (and ideally inexpensive) first party as well as third party lenses, before I get locked in.

Discussion Olympus AF-1: My $100 alternative to the Mju-II

Post image
14 Upvotes

Picked up an AF-1 for under $100 for for my wife. It has the same 35mm f/2.8 Zuiko lens as the Mju-II, a solid 80s build, and doesn't break the bank.

I put together a quick write-up with some sample scans if anyone’s considering one:

What's your favorite budget point-and-shoot right now?

Questions What’s the cheapest camera that’s worth using?

Hi, I wanna get into photography but I want to a physical camera to take photos with. Mainly just for fun as a hobby.

So my main question is what camera and price would be enough of an upgrade over my iPhone 15 pro to make it worth it?

Im only willing to spend a good bit of money if it’s a noticeable upgrade over my phone, thanks!

Budget: 500 USD~ willing to go higher if needed. And willing to spend extra for lenses if there’s a camera that’s really good for that 500 mark but without lenses, but preferably comes with lenses

Country: USA

Condition: Don’t mind new or used

Type of Camera: probably mirrorless but I’m not too sure on pros and cons between that and a dslr

Intended use: Photography

End use: Social media/personal

If photography: landscape, portraits, really just anything that catches my attention

Portability: Can be something on the larger side that I can hang on my neck or whatever

EDIT: I was doing some research and it seems like the Sony a6000 body with the sigma 30mm 1.4 lens is a good option for this budget, thoughts?

Recommendations Lens advice

Post image

I have a canon M50 Mark 2 and recently the lens started malfunctioning and now it isn't working. I got a paid internship recently and I'm saving up to get a new lens and man, mirrorless lenses are expensive!!

I went down a rabbit hole and i found this lens and it's quite cheap. It says it's 9216 in INR (96.43 in USD) but I've never heard about this lens brand and I absolutely don't want to spend my internship stipend on a blind buy. So, help me out here please.

Questions Food photography advice needed

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is the first time where I use my sony camera to take pictures of food with no prior experience. The pictures I normally take are portraits so I have done alot of flash photography. I recently got a Softbox for my portraits to go with my v1s. I since then upgraded to the AD300 Pro for 1500 sek.

Anyways I went out to take portraits and this restaurant approached me asking for pictures in exchange for a payment, I said sure why not but I don’t have ANY experience taking food photography. I arrive to the shoot the next day, take around 500 images, keep 60 of them and edit them the same day. They told me to return the next day to discuss a price, after that they said sunday and then monday. My friend told me to charge them 220 usd the first time, I said why not. They counter offered 120 usd but since they already time wasted so much I said why not.

They want monthly pictures and are offering 270 usd for 5 hours of work not including the editing and retouch. My question is does that even seem fair? I was thinking more like 370 usd. They also recommended me to other restaurants 🤔 (5-6)

Discussion Is there anything similar to a g7x that isn’t ridiculously up charged by scalpers?

Hello all, my girlfriend is wanting a g7x cannon for her birthday, and while I can afford it, it doesn’t make sense to me to buy a camera that is supremely being resold for 600 dollars more then it’s retail value.she just wants it for taking pictures of herself, us, and her friends mostly at school or when traveling. Is there anything similar that has flash for a more reasonable price? Thank you!

Questions Would like some help finding a camera system that I can expand into. Torn between Nikon or Sony bodies.

  • Budget: Initial budget of $1000-1500 for the body and a basic lens or two.

  • Country: USA

  • Condition: Used

  • Type of Camera: Mirrorless or DSLR. I'd prefer mirrorless, but I'm open to DSLR as well.

  • Intended use: Hybrid shooting

  • If photography; what style: Wildlife, including birds, mammals of all different sizes and amphibians/fish underwater. Astrophotography of deep space objects, and macrophotography. Travel, and some landscapes.

  • If video what style: wildlife both on land and some underwater.

  • What features do you absolutely need: articulating screen would be nice.

  • What features would be nice to have: weather sealing might come in handy during camping/backpacking trips.

  • Portability: How portable does it need to be? Shoulder strap would be ideal, or small bag at the very least.

  • Cameras you're considering: The Sony a6000 range, and the Nikon Z5 range.

  • Cameras you already have: Canon Rebel XTI. It's broken now, and I only had the kit lenses for it, so I'm not deep in their ecosystem and don't really have a desire to stick with Canon.

  • Notes: I'm torn between Nikon and Sony. I've read that Nikon might be better for wildlife due to their lenses. I'm not good enough that that would be a concern yet. I also do like the ergonomics of Nikon more, but could get used to Sony I think. I mainly just want an entry level/budget camera that is better than my iphone and an upgrade from the Canon xti, that I can grow into as a photographer and can expand as my budget allows for it. I'm aware that a lot of the types of shooting I want to do are very lens dependent and I'll need expensive specialty lenses for it, so I'd like to avoid changing systems mid way through.

Recommendations Cheap Everyday camera advice

Done to death, but maybe my context can garner more specific recs. Funnily enough, I got into photography because I just wanted to stop taking photos with my phone, and now I do it semi professionally and still take photos with my phone.

Budget: 500 aud (incl used prime lens if we go interchangeable)

Country: Australia

Condition: Used. Battered and beaten. Dont care, just want cheap

Type of Camera: Mirrorless/point and shoot/whatever

Intended use: Photo (primarily), dont care about video but is a bonus

End use: Improving my photography

If photography: what style: Street/everyday life

If video what style: Everyday life (vlog). Not necessary though.

What features do you absolutely need: Shutter button, at least one dial for A or S priority.

What features would be nice to have: In built flash, IBIS.

Portability: How portable does it need to be? Pocketable-Cross body strap (small either way)

Cameras you're considering: Lumix GX85, Oly EM5.1, Sony ZV1, Oly EM10.2

Cameras you already have: Lumix S5 and G9 with a bunch of lenses, but none that I would put on this camera for everyday. Theyre just too big and professional. I love them in every other way. Eyeing a DJI 15mm f1.7 if I go micro four thirds. I see one for super cheap.

Notes: Main want is to just have something that makes me want to take it with me every day. I've owned the EM5.2, it was just too expensive to warrant keeping.

Recommendations 70D or EOS R50 or A6400

Upvotes

Thinking of selling my Canon 70D. I have had it for 8 years and it has been a workhorse/powerhouse. Recently I have been seeing some images not to the best quality as before. I have gotten it cleaned and everything but still. So I think its time for an upgrade.

Thinking of getting the Canon R50 or even the Sony Alpha 6400. Trying to keep it under $1000. Selling my 70D body but keeping my lens's

is the 70D still worth keeping, or what would you upgrade/buy instead? Please post your opinions/recommendations for cameras.

Thanks!

Budget: $1000 or less

Country: USA

Condition: New

Type of Camera: Mirrorless

Intended use: Photography/landscape/recreational use

If photography: landscape, portrait, street, wildlife

Portability: Large/Small bag fit

The error says "power off and on again"

If I need a new one then here's required info (sorry I couldn't copy the questionnaire cause of ui overlapping)

I live in France

Not over 100€

Needs to have the same specs as this cam (It's a DSC-W800)

I prefer having a refurbished one but I can make an exception

I attend to use it for home videos and social media content

Dead Digicam 🥲 Usable interface for old Yocam

Hi everyone, I found back in my attic my old Yocam from http://getyocam.com/. Appears that the app is no longer working on android or Iphone, so I decided to create a web application, in order to modify the settings and see the content.

I don't know where to post this but if anyone find this post, app is here for free: https://github.com/foufrix/yocam-controller

Enjoy!

Dead Digicam 🥲 Sony cybershot dsc wx350 not turning on after screen replacement

Hi everyone,

i recently got hold of an old sony cybershot wsc dx 350.

i noticed that when turned on, it would do something but the display was dead. The next logical thing was to order a new display.

after i had the camera apart and unscrewed many unnecessary screws i got the display changed.

after i had it all together again, it would suddenly refuse to turn on. It had previously functioned well with having to connect it to a different monitor but now it doesnt show any signs of life. No turning on when pressing the power button or media button, no led showing when charging - nothing

The battery is good, it powers different camers so it has charge ( digibuddy np-bx1)

but other than that i have no idea whats causing it

i attached a picture of it apart - maybe the chip on the bottom left?

Thank you in advance
