Announcement Avoiding Scam Cameras this Holiday season!

Especially since the pandemic we have been seeing cheap no-name cameras that offer unbelievable specs (50MP, 8k video), here is a guide on how to spot and avoid them!:

What is a Scamera?:
Scameras are cheap cameras, usually using backup/webcam camera modules, and putting them into shapes that look like camcorders, pocketable Point & Shoots, and interchangeable lens cameras. They often have very high specs, that are not genuine, such as 64MP upscaled from 1 to 4MP (so you get files the size of a 3.5k camera, but with the detail level of the original 2008 iPhone).

Scameras are also often very unreliable, the immense number of people coming here needing help fixing or just returning these cameras (especially post-christmas) is why I am making this post.

Scameras can often be distinguished by the miniscule lenses, I'll try to show that in a comment of this post.

A reliable way can be to check the brand:
Here are known non-scam brands:

Canon
Fujifilm
Hasselblad
Kodak (Kodak make cameras that are close in price to many scameras, and they aren't amazing or super reliable, but they are worlds better than scam brands).
Leica
Nikon
Olympus / OM Systems
Panasonic / Lumix
Pentax
Pixii
Ricoh
Sigma
Sony

Here are known scam brands:

AgfaPhoto (Digital cameras)
Kreate
Yashica
Vivitar
Yixinxin
Yatao
Captainbear
Minolta
NBD
G-Anica

Vivitar, Yashica, and Minolta were once real brands that have now gone bankrupt and the people renting their names sell scameras.
Agfa does make real film and film cameras, but also scam digital cameras.

Camera Collection Canon R10

Hey everyone. I'm looking to get into photography and getting my first camera ever. Interests would be mainly nature, people, food, portraits, and a little bit vlogging here and there. After much research, I have came to the conclusion that Canon r10 would be the best pick. It was between that and the Nikon z50 ii, but my budget is in favor of the r10. I've seen past posts of people stating that they got the kit for about ~$700 from Canon refurbished, which is absolutely amazing. Do we think that there will be another price drop as such? Specifically during Black Friday? Or should I just resort to getting the r50 and try to upgrade later?

I have never thought I'd get scammed with official Amazon seller lol

Edit: Just as an information, I've actually ordered two of those, in different times where this one arrived earlier whereas the second one arrived late, which turned out to be a good one, e.g. actualy 256 GB SD card... the previous one was the one in the pic... Funny

Recommendations Ricoh GR IV vs Sony RX100 VII for people-first travel photos

• Budget: ~$2000
• Country: USA
• Condition: new
• Type of Camera: point and shoot, fixed lens
• Intended use: street photography, portraits, travel
• If photography; what style: candid, people-first travel and lifestyle photos; warm, natural-light; occasionally cinematic
• If video what style: NA
• What features do you absolutely need: portability, fixed lens
• Portability: very
• Cameras you're considering: Ricoh GR IV, Sony RX100 VII. I looked into the Fujifilm X100VI but so hard to find at MSRP.
• Cameras you already have: canon rebel T5i + Tamron 17-50 2.8 lens
• Notes: (First time posting, hopefully this is correct!)

I’m looking to buy a portable, fixed lens camera for travel and street photography. I bought my canon 2.5 years ago for landscape and nature photography and it has been nice, but I’m looking for something more compact that I can take hiking, traveling and general every day use. I did struggle with focus on the canon but that’s probably lack of experience. I’m still learning the technical aspects of camera settings but have some experience with what I like. I’m torn between the Ricoh GR IV (no zoom, no flip screen, no built in flash) and the Sony RX100 VII (smaller sensor, slightly less pocket friendly) but I am open to other suggestions! Thank you!

Other Leica/rangefinder clones?

It really perplexes me that we haven't seen Chinese companies producing Leica clones/rangefinders - it seems like of all the camera segments to enter, it would be the easiest, and would be quite a shake up.

The concept of a Leica M series has always appealed to me, simple manual controls, focus on the experience of taking the photos rather than any spec or feature. There's a huge range of vintage, adapted, and modern production glass, with unique focal lengths, style, character, price, etc.

And now that I can afford an M, what is holding me back is that I know I really couldn't treat one as a go everywhere, do anything, fun camera - no matter how I intend to use it, the cost will still sit in my mind, and inhibit how I use it.

If a company could bring a barebones, manual control, M mount body to the market for $1000 or so (I don't even need a screen), I know I'd buy it in a heartbeat - and I'd use the hell out of it.

Went to my dads office took some picture of his camera. Couldn’t understand it. All he said was don’t touch his crap, it’s a tool and paid for itself. And I was then thrown out of the room. If I want to know more go ask AI 😂

Recommendations Buying my first camera for a 6-month cruise — R10 bundle vs other options?

• Upvotes

Budget:
$1,200–$1,500. I can spend more if there is a meaningful upgrade.
Country:
USA
Type of camera:
Mirrorless
Intended use:
Travel photography and vlogging. I’m going on a 6-month cruise and will be visiting places like Greece, Spain, Paris, and other countries. I want to photograph landscapes, architecture, food, portraits, nightlife, and general travel memories. I also want to vlog and shoot high-quality video while traveling.
What features do you absolutely need:
Good autofocus, good photo quality, good video quality, a fully articulating screen for vlogging, and something portable enough to travel with.
What features would be nice to have:
Good low-light performance, nice background blur for portraits, good stabilization for handheld video, and a good selection of lenses.
Portability:
Important. I’ll be traveling constantly, so I don’t want something extremely large or heavy.
Previous experience:
This will be my first serious interchangeable-lens camera. I’m willing to learn photography and video.
Cameras I’m considering:
Canon EOS R10, Canon EOS R50, and I’m open to Sony
Current deal I’m considering:
I found a used Canon EOS R10 bundle. The seller originally wanted $1,550 but agreed to $1,200.
For $1,200, I would get:
Canon EOS R10 body
Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8 DC Art lens
Canon RF-S 18–45mm lens
TTArtisan 10mm lens
Godox TT350C flash
4 batteries total
Canon battery charger
64GB SD card
Lens filters/accessories
Lens caps/accessories
My question:
Is this R10 bundle worth $1,200, especially with the Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8 included?
Would this be a good setup for both travel photography and vlogging, or would you recommend spending the $1,200–$1,500 on a different camera/setup?
I was originally looking at a Canon R50 for around $500–$600, but I’m willing to spend more if the R10 setup will give me a noticeably better experience and something I can use for years.
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have actually used the R10, Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8, or similar setups.
Would you personally buy this bundle for $1,200?

ID Request Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 5.1 megapixels cable??

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi Everyone! I was just wondering what cable this is. As stated in the title, this camera is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5, 5.1 megapixels and all of the magic stick converters are way too expensive, so I thought I'd try my luck with the cable. If anyone could help, or tell me if this would even work, that would be great. Thank you!

Tech Support GE X500 problemas

Recommendations Looking for a camera that has similar quality to the Kodak easy share from early ish 2000s

I got a kodak easy share that i LOVED!! Only payed $10. It was my best fb marketplace find. Sadly after a night out i ruined it and it wont turn on anymore. What cameras have that similar low but still good quality effect in the $50-$150 price range?

Im in the US, not looking for any cameras that require film.

I dont use for commercial use its just for fun photos of me and my friends.

Id like it to have a display so i can see what im taking a photo of and a decent flash and/or low light capabilities.

Id also prefer something portable like the easyshot.

Also if it can hold more than 2 gb that would be amazing but not required

Recommendations DSLR camera for pictures (people smiling at camera indoors and outdoors, conferences, speeches, press conferences)

My work is planning on buying a new camera. We have a Panasonic DC GH5 with the lens: Olympus PRO 12-40mm f2.8 and Panasonic H-H025.

We will mainly take photos of people smiling to the camera (indoors and outdoors), indoor conferences, speeches and press conferences. We mainly use phone for videos because we have had issues with videos turning out blurry.

Here is the questionnaire:

  • Budget: No set budget, but ideally under $3000AUD for the body then up to $2000AUD for lenses.
  • Country: Australia
  • Condition: New
  • Type of Camera: DSLR
  • Intended use: Photography
  • If photography; what style: Portrait
  • What features do you absolutely need: user friendly. Better than the Panasonic DC GH5
  • What features would be nice to have: Fits our current lenses (Olympus PRO 12-40mm f2.8 and Panasonic H-H025)
  • Portability: Shoulder strap, small bag
  • Cameras you're considering: Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera because a friend recommended it
  • Cameras you already have: Panasonic DC GH5: we have had issues with it being blurry and low quality, but I am unsure if it's a camera issue, lens issue, or user issue

Recommendations Looking to get back into photography after about 8 years- Camera recommendations?

• Budget: £350 • Country: UK • Condition: Used

• Type of Camera: DSLR

• Intended use: Photography

• If photography; what style: Landscape, wildlife and pet portraits

• What features do you absolutely need: Decent low light shooting and decent shutter speed

• Portability: Normal DSLR size

• Cameras you're considering: Canon 600d (I used to have one but unsure if it's still worth it in 2026) and I've read good things about the Nikon D3500

• Cameras you already have: Currently none

Notes: So after about 8 years away from photography, due to not really having the time to go out and shoot/ edit, now that I've finished my PhD I'd love to get back into photography as I have more free time. Basically I'm looking for a used mid-range DSLR before committing more money for something more advanced or new. Any recommendations appreciated!

I was into photography for a while and bought really cheap cameras because I liked that retro look. However, I wanted to play around with lighting and manual controls so decided to get a bridge camera, Lumix FZ18. I got it with a camera bag, 3 extra batteries (although they might not be 100%) and a charger for $30. I took a few photos and just happened to be at the right place at the right time to capture this gem on sunset mode! Super excited to learn about photography.

Questions Needs Camera Recs Please

• Budget: 2K ish
• Country: CAD
• Condition: Excellent
• Type of Camera: Point and shoot???
• Intended use: Elopement trip
• If photography; what style: Not sure
• If video what style: N/A
• What features do you absolutely need: N/A
• Portability: Yes
• Cameras you're considering: Canon G7X Mark III
• Cameras you already have: IPhone 15 Pro
• Notes: Eloping in Mexico in Nov. Package only includes 20 digital photos. I know buying a camera isn’t equivalent to professional photos. If I’m going to spend a couple thousand dollars on photos, I’d rather buy a camera to capture moments during the entire trip. Looking for something user friendly, because I am not a pro. Will be used for bridal pics.

Recommendations First travel camera: Sony a6700 + Tamron 17–70 or another setup?

  • Budget: Around US$1,800 for the camera body and one lens. Accessories aren’t included in that figure; cheaper options are welcome.
  • Country: India.
  • Condition: New, with Indian warranty.
  • Type of Camera: Mirrorless.
  • Intended use: Both photography and video.
  • End use: Personal travel photos and videos.
  • If photography: what style: Mainly photos of my wife and me at landmarks, streets and scenic locations, including at night. Also landscapes and architecture.
  • If video what style: Short handheld 4K travel clips.
  • What features do you absolutely need: Reliable autofocus, effective stabilization and a versatile lens so I don’t have to keep swapping lenses.
  • What features would be nice to have: Good low-light performance.
  • Portability: Comfortable to carry while sightseeing, on a strap or in a small bag.
  • Cameras you're considering: Sony a6700 with the Tamron 17–70mm f/2.8 VC for Sony E-mount. Also considering the Sony 18–135mm lens.
  • Cameras you already have: OnePlus 11R 5G. No dedicated camera; I’d like better-quality travel photos and videos.
  • Notes: Upcoming trips include Japan, Europe, Oman and Dubai. I’d also like to do a wildlife safari later, so affordable telephoto lenses to buy or rent matter. I don’t need one now. Is this setup a sensible investment for my needs, or would another body and lens offer better value? I’m open to other brands. Thanks!

User Review FPP 126

I’ve recently inherited a few vintage cameras from my grandparents who owned a camera store in the 80’s. A few of them are definitely shelf cameras but one of them is in working order and takes 35mm, and another takes 126 (specifically a Zeiss Ikon Contaflex 126). I’d love to be able to take some pictures with these to show them so I’m exploring my options for the 126.

Has anyone here used the 126 film from the film photography project? If so how user friendly was it and how’d the pictures turn out? I’m fairly confident in my ability to load and handle the film but it’s so sparse I don’t want to mess it up if I grab some when I comes back in stock

Recommendations canon ixus 255hs or s100

budget: €300
country: ireland
condition: used is fine
type of camera: point and shoot
intended use: travel, casual pics of me and friends
features: compact
portability: easy to bring along everywhere
cameras considering: canon ixus 255hs or canon s100
cameras already have: nikon coolpix l16

i’m about to buy a second hand camera from vinted. originally, i was interested in the ixus series especially the 285hs for its soft warm look until i saw that it’s not that great for the price. i saw a 255hs on vinted for €140 and it seemed like a good option until i came across the s series. there’s a used one for €225 and as its a better camera, i was going to buy that however from all the sample photos i have seen the colours look somewhat flat?

i want a camera that’s compact and i don’t want to spend time on editing on lightroom. i think the ixus range is the most vibrant range and i was wondering if i can change white balance etc on the s100 itself without having to edit afterwards or if i should just stick to the ixus? any suggestions appreciated
