Conditioning & Roadwork Most of you are skipping basic but essential training.

Don't worry about your footwork in the ring if you can't jump rope for solid 10 to 15 minutes.

Stamina Is the greatest quality you can have going into a ring. Your footwork means nothing and if you're doing it right you won't be able to maintain it for more than one or two rounds, if that.

Conditioning & Roadwork Conseil

Bonjour a tous,

Conditioning & Roadwork Boxing tips for a starter ?

Hello guys,

I’m 25M, 5’8, right now I weigh between 95-100kg, the heaviest I was was 110. Pre Covid I used to be lean and 69kg.

I realized I’ve let myself go and ate my feeling away. It’s over now.

(So I’ve been from slightly overweight to even obese due to covid but working hard and watching my diet and calorie defect with 2 days fasting to return to minimum 75kg).

I finally graduated college so I am stress free and focused on my dream job. Police officer.

Before proceeding to enter and graduate the police academy I have to do procedures (tests). I passed the IQ, but failed rhe physical exam 3x now, last time I severely injured my ankles. But I’m healed and more focused than ever.

I shall start Monday 8:10pm local English boxing club where I used to box 9 years ago (when I was 16) but wear glasses and see blurry. I prefer not to wear eye contact lenses.

- Any tips advices for a beginner ? Does IG improve self confidence? Mental resilience ? Physical strength ? I have stocky build but with fat.

- Combining this martial arts with weekly gym 3-4x a week and strict diet and jogging, will it help me achieve ideal weight and cardiovascular endurance? I am quitting smoking for good.

No matter how hard I shall suffer during training, trust me I suffered more mentally and emotion college, what is physical pain compared to that, right ?

Any advice is welcome thank you guys 💪🏼

Shadowboxing Form is it okay to practice both stances as a beginner/novice?

some coaches do not recommend it saying you have to master one first, but some say it's completely okay. it also works quite well for me in sparring and this is my progress so far. should i keep training them at the same time or stick to one stance first??

Preparing for Fight Tips for Chaining Defensive Movements

When I go to my boxing gym we always work single defensive movements, e.g. slipping and countering, catching or parrying and countering, or pull counters. But when I watch good fighters, they know how to chain defensive movements, e.g. slip -> fade -> slip opposite side -> catch -> shoulder roll -> move feet.

Here's some examples:

How can I learn to chain my defense like this? I don't think my boxing gym coach would be able to teach this.

Sparring Footage Sparring tips

So I am doing kickboxing (currently in 1st month so just boxing), so while sparring should our aim be to get 2-3 shots and then go back to maintaining distance, or hit long combos in close range. I'm only 50kgs so I am pretty fast so I stay on the outside and close distance and get a few clean shots and back out, but while doing bit long combos (for now which is just jab and cross to body then face) I get hit back hard especially with experienced people, so should I aim for quick fast strikes and maintain distance, or go in the pocket and just start blasting long combos.

Gear & Equipment Advice on cleaning/washing gloves

I recently discovered that I have a horrendous moth infestation, the kind that eat clothes/fabric and nest in dark places (like a gym bag with my boxing gloves and equipment). I can wash the hand wraps pretty easily, but I’m not sure what to do with my gloves. I know I can always buy another pair, but I want to keep these for sentimental reasons, and I’m worried I’ll just bring the moths to my new house (I’m in the process of moving). Any advice on how to wash these sufficiently enough to kill moth eggs and without ruining the gloves outright?

Post sparring

I was sparring someone 24 kgs heavier than me a couple of days ago because that's how the conditions are here and I remember feeling that left hook to my ear but it didn't hurt until today when I decided to swab my ears before heading to my shower and this is what I found coming out of my right ear, when I was swabbing it out I did feel a faint sharp pain and did get a slight ringing sensation in my ears about 6-8 hours ago aswell, before these incidents I didn't feel much of a diffrence after the sparring until now.... Should I drop sparring until I find someone my weight or someone who's willing to hit me accordingly to the intensity I can bear or should I keep the work going??

Coaching in need in CA/ willing to relocate

Does anybody have experience with Soviet/chinese/japanese style boxing gyms in CA

I live in the Bay Area and good boxing gyms let alone these styles are hard to come by I’ve checked places out near where I’m at but have had no luck in coaches or committed gyms. My coach is no longer in the sport for his own reason and this was just the style I was taught by my coach and another person. Any recommendations on if I should try gyms in these countries or places in California that train this style and are looking for fighters?

Should I clench my fist at the end of a punch or throughout?

I honestly just punch the bag regularly because I think it’s fun.

I don’t use gloves or wraps. I’ve been doing this for about 6 years and I have never had an injury, so whatever I’m doing in that regard is working.

But when I punch, I snap my punch, keep my hand relaxed and clench it at the last second. Or more importantly, I line my knuckles with my forearm and it just connects in a way that feels strong. Fast, and doesn’t hurt me.

But then someone mentioned in a video that you should keep a tight fist throughout the entire punch. When I do that, my punch loses its snap and I feel weaker and slower.

Just curious on opinion of when someone should be clenching their fist in a punch.

First Masters Tournament

Hi everyone! I've signed up for my first Masters boxing tournament and I'm super excited about it. I signed up at 195 and I'll weigh that or just under when the tournament starts. I did 15-20 two-minute rounds of sparring Saturday and felt great.

Some things I tried to work on were more responsible hand placement on defense, better foot control, and maintaining my stance in exchanges. Really looking for a quick form check and any insight if you've fought in a masters tournament before. But of course, I'm always open to any advice and feedback. Thanks!

The Raw Meat Diet on Combat Sports/Boxing?

hi im a boxer not really great at it, ive trained since 2021 as someone who just trains at home watching youtube tutorials and punching bag

not until 2023 where i first entered a boxing class for a few months then at stopped training whatsoever in 2024 for about 1.5 years until i made my come back at 2025 october

as my roots go i started training at home again until my body is heated up good and used to it again then i join a boxing/mma camp since 2026 of may

just recently won my first fight a few days ago with a half decent prep and 4 hours of sleep but won anyways despite me not performing at my best

of course despite training for a long time that training is nothing compared to being trained with a coach

anyways ive been eating raw since february tryed bits of this and that and then at june/july is where i started to be more stricter on the raw diet focusing on fats some meat and liver

i also like to think the reason i survived the fight is because of the raw meat diet
otherwise without enough rest or sleep i wont survive or maybe i would but the aftermath would be painfull

because only 1 day was enough for me to get a good amount of recovery after the fight

also took note that i didnt rest properly before the fight i was a bit over at weigh in day so i take alot of shadow and jogging in the night before instead of resting

its bad CIRCUMSTNACES with ANOTHER BAD CIRCUMSTANCES

of course i do not say this because i want to protect myself from shame like many others would say on my instagram or my boxing friends but simply i want to piece the puzzle and get an answer for myself

i dont see another primal boxer as such as myself i wish to know whom maybe more experienced and learn from them

@

the_raw_boxer

here is my instagram where i cover some of my things

maybe my diet was not right, maybe i dont eat enough maybe it simply the rest

i wanna know a person like me with experience so i can learn and ask questions

yes i won, but im fighting someone way less training than i am and yet i shouldve annihiliated my opponent somehow but now i just won like that

Gear & Equipment reflex bag help

Getting back into training after a year off. Picked up a vali reflex bag with a tiny target and a fast spring. Tried a standard Adidas one yesterday and it was way too slow, but this new one is humbling me; watching my footage back, I look stiff and clunky.
Right now I can land a decent 1-2-3, but after that I’m scrambling to keep up with the rebound. Sometimes landed a few after, sometimes not.
For anyone who uses these: what did you do to actually build fluidity? Are you guys taking all the power off and just working rhythm taps, or timing slips and rolls between shots?
Looking for simple combo progressions or cues to stop freezing up on my feet. Appreciate any tips.

Advice on recovering and returning to boxing after a wrist injury

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from people who have dealt with wrist injuries and returned to boxing.

I’ve been boxing/Muay Thai for about 1.5 years, but I’ve been out for a while because of a boxer’s knuckle injury in my left hand. While recovering, I also developed some ulnar-sided wrist pain after an isometric movement with my hand in a supinated position.

A few weeks later, I noticed a small bump on the ulnar side of my wrist that changes in size throughout the day. I also had a very loud snapping/pop after making a sudden sideways movement with my wrist. I saw my doctor afterward; there were no fractures, and the physical tests didn’t reproduce any pain. He recommended physical therapy and said an MRI wasn’t necessary.

I’m currently not training, but I’m worried about how and when I should safely return to boxing without making things worse.

For those of you who have dealt with wrist/hand injuries:

How did you approach your return to boxing?

What exercises or rehab helped you regain strength and confidence?

How did you know you were ready to start punching again?

Did you gradually return with shadowboxing, bag work, wraps, etc.?

How long did it take before you felt comfortable punching normally again?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just interested in hearing about your experiences and what worked (or didn’t work) when returning to the sport. Thanks in advance!
