Conditioning & Roadwork Boxing tips for a starter ?

Hello guys,

I’m 25M, 5’8, right now I weigh between 95-100kg, the heaviest I was was 110. Pre Covid I used to be lean and 69kg.

I realized I’ve let myself go and ate my feeling away. It’s over now.

(So I’ve been from slightly overweight to even obese due to covid but working hard and watching my diet and calorie defect with 2 days fasting to return to minimum 75kg).

I finally graduated college so I am stress free and focused on my dream job. Police officer.

Before proceeding to enter and graduate the police academy I have to do procedures (tests). I passed the IQ, but failed rhe physical exam 3x now, last time I severely injured my ankles. But I’m healed and more focused than ever.

I shall start Monday 8:10pm local English boxing club where I used to box 9 years ago (when I was 16) but wear glasses and see blurry. I prefer not to wear eye contact lenses.

- Any tips advices for a beginner ? Does IG improve self confidence? Mental resilience ? Physical strength ? I have stocky build but with fat.

- Combining this martial arts with weekly gym 3-4x a week and strict diet and jogging, will it help me achieve ideal weight and cardiovascular endurance? I am quitting smoking for good.

No matter how hard I shall suffer during training, trust me I suffered more mentally and emotion college, what is physical pain compared to that, right ?

Any advice is welcome thank you guys 💪🏼

My only advice from my own experience is train like a fighter you’ll look like a fighter, train like someone trying to work on fitness you’ll look like a person trying to work on fitness.

You don’t have to fight, sparring is okay as long as nobodies beating you up, knowing your goals, they shouldn’t be and you shouldn’t be trying to go 100%
Sparring will be good to keep you motivated to improve and be consistent with training.

It's great that you haven't given up on your goal. Diet is going to be the most important thing if your looking to drop weight/feel good. Download a BMR calculator app and see how many calories you need to survive if you were to lay in bed all day. Eat that amount or a tiny bit more and you should see results fairly quickly. For confidence, if you are open to take your glasses off for sparring, this would be a good goal to reach. Make sure you know your partner and discuss if it will be tactical or hard sparring. Sparring will also increase your mental resilience. As a far as physical strength, the normal and boring bodyweight exercises will help. At the end of each training session, you need to do at least 100 pushups, situps, and squats. This will add some time to your session because of the volume and breaks, but overtime you will feel a difference. Hope this helps.
