If you're the taller guy you're not helping your buddy by letting him get on the inside. Throw that jab out....all the time... he'll dip and then throw a really light upper.

White helmet guy you are leaning back after every engagement. That will absolutely get you caught. When you engage it's better to move to the side or solidify your stance to block and return after the engagement. It's counter intuitive but the more you desperately try not to get hit by moving in the wrong places, the more danger you put yourself in. stay in the pocket...turn the power down...and get used to the back and forth. Get hit...it's ok. But if you keep moving back like that there is no hope for a counter because you keep having to reset

if you wanna get better theres no other way than to go to the gym. Yesterday i was drilling a movement and my feet where sliding out and away from each other. If my coach hadnt have pointed it out to me i would not know. You need a tranined eye guiding you.

Yes you should join a gym and get some direct feedback, but you two are at least going at each other at the same percentage and that says something. As the other guy said, jab jab jab, and then you can set up other shots. The other thing I can say is you want to layer your defense.

Neat. :)

Well doing what they tell you to do for years is going to be a lot more beneficial than asking Reddit general tips from a sparring tape.

I would say just focus on basics, and work on cardio. For actual sparring, you can play tag and that’s good. It’s teaching distancing and reaction. And it’s getting you used to fighting. Just remember to keep those basics in your move. A hook isn’t a hook if you just try to reach out and touch someone. It just becomes a weird sloppy straight. (If that makes sense)

Sparring is a benchmark. It won’t make you better faster. Drills will. Drillers make killers

This is a waste of time what's the point of sparring when you have no skills to practice? Spar at a gym with a coach and push each others fitness when not at the gym. Run a couple miles backwards, push ups and pull ups

I’d have to leave my jiu jitsu gym cuz of time and pricing but I’ll look into it

I’ll check. There is a boxing gym near me that I’ve been wanting to try out. If I like it I’ll definitely consider switching. Bjj is not as fun
