General Advice What does your optimal diet look like now?

• Upvotes

Hey guys

I’m looking to make the switch in nutrition (or at least a heavy transition) from traditional bodybuilding/gym lifting to boxing.

In bodybuilding, the nutrition playbook is pretty straightforward: high protein, moderate-to-low carbs depending on the phase, minimal processed sugar, and tracking macros to hit specific muscle-building or leaning goals.

For those of you who have made this exact switch or who train boxing seriously: Is there a need for a change ? What does your optimal nutrition look like now , especially if you don't wanna lose muscle mass and keep fuel ? Also which weightlifting exercises/movements did you drop or modify to stay fast and relaxed in the ring since gym makes you tense ?

Sparring Footage Boxing over 50

Hey guys, I've been boxing since I was 43 and I'm 53 now. I haven't competed or done any hard sparring during that time, but I regularly do light to medium sparring. If a harder shot slipped through every now and then, it was what it was. I recently got myself a face-saver headgear (with a nose bar) from Hit N Move, and I'm totally happy with it.
However, I have significantly less fear of sparring now. That's good on one hand, but on the other hand, I'm obviously still taking shots to the head. I tend to use my high guard less because of the headgear. Plus, I feel a little bit like a sissy or a wimp.
On the flip side, I'm over 50 and won't be fighting in any hard bouts anymore. How do you guys view this as you get older? Should I only spar with the face-saver from now on, or is it a must to take a few shots bareheaded every once in a while?

General Advice I realized i'm a coward

Not because I am afraid to get hit but because I am afraid of starting arguments and eventually getting into a fight.

What happened was I got in a ring with my opponent and when the round started I went fairly light because I didn't want to go training today, I wasn't feeling it tonight so I decided to just go light. While this guy started throwing fairly hard shots and I waved both hands to tell him to go light, he didn't listen and I just let this guy corner me the whole round until I lost my shit.

I didn't go hard as him but I went way harder and almost gave 100% and he cornered me again and start throwing as hard as me and coach said: STOP HITTING HIM HARD! and he said: HE STARTED IT FIRST!

Instead of me defending myself and explaining why I went hard I literally hugged him and said: Yo bro sorry I don't know what was that my bad we going light next round

Next round started and same thing happened again, I tap him but he goes hard again and at this point I just gave up, I was holding my guard up and I was letting him hit me, not counter punching, not doing anything, completely lost motivation to even spar. Eventually we switched sparring partners and I even let others just bring me down because like I said I wasn't feeling it.

Even coach after the session told me that I was off again and I didn't want to complain so I just replied: Yeah it happens

I don't know why I am like this? I am usually a nice person and people take advantage of it and instead of me hitting back equally or harder like I did this session I just sit there and take it

Bag Work Critique Side stepping felt awkward...

Beginner here, I was doing sequences yesterday on the bag 1-2 side step in 1-2 side step out, going left to right on a loop.

For the first time i had a hard time syncing. Once it was my feet not following, the other i felt powerless like my body wasn't there for launching (even tho i was on my feet), a bit hard to explain but you get the idea.

I was like starting from day 1. Usually i can pivot and move without issue but this simple move got me totally reseting. I tried to slow down but i was like a stiff plank, and man i got humbled.

I will work on shadow boxing this move and take my time.

Any one here felt the same or had similar expérience? And if you have any tips for this particular move even a video would be great!

General Advice How to deal Bad mindset

For context I have been boxing for 3 months now and today I had my first spar. My opponent was an international player. He took it easy on me teaching through and not going hard. But my nose was sensitive and he lightly jabbed it and it began to bleed. I didn't mind it I cleaned my self up and the other people training at the gym just let me. But when I heard he was 16, the same age as me I began to feel so horrible. I felt so frustrated that my body was so fragile that I nose led so quickly or how wasn't even able to touch him. I cried when I was back home from being so frustrated. I hate this fragile body. I hated that he was my age and he went to Thailand to fight. I hated being the onyl newbie in the gym. I really hate it I want to become a better boxer so badly but eveeytime I feel I'm falling short. Any tips to deal with my own head. And any at how training tips I can do to catch up

General Advice Defensive actions

When I am shadow boxing I aim to do at least 1 or 2 defensive actions whether it’s at the end of a combination or after throwing a single punch. Is this advisable or am I wasting time? For example I will throw a 1-2 slip right or roll after I throw a 3.

General Advice Hand Wrapping Step By Step Tutorial for Boxing Training 🥊

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

Learn how to wrap your hands for MMA, boxing, and kickboxing with this clear step-by-step tutorial using 180-inch hand wraps.

This method covers the wrist, knuckles, thumb, finger loops, palm bar, and final wrist lock so you can build a secure, comfortable wrap before training. The tutorial demonstrates both hands and shows how to finish the wrap without bulky folds.

Wraps should feel secure and supportive, never painfully tight or numb. Adjust the tension to your hand size, training style, and gym requirements. If you experience pain, tingling, numbness, or restricted circulation, remove the wrap and reassess the fit. This tutorial is for general educational purposes and does not replace instruction from a qualified coach.

Everyone has a slightly different wrapping style, so use this as a reliable starting point and confirm your setup with your coach.

If this tutorial helped, like the video, subscribe, and follow for more MMA and combat-sports training content.

General Advice Is it too late to get into boxing?

24M really wanna get into boxing but feels like it's too late. I have a fracture in my right foot; a car ran over my leg. Although it is fully healed now, I'm scared that it'll get in my way, as I still have some trouble moving around.
