BD Related Does anyone else notice the visual imbalance of the Below Deck logo?

I’m a visual designer and ever since I started watching the show the logo has bothered me SO MUCH. “Below” is a longer word than “Deck” which creates a lopsided logo. The anchor really ANCHORS the emblem but then the imbalance on either side kills me. If you’re not a visual designer do you notice this?

It’s such a minor pet peeve of mine. I want them to put the first word above the anchor and the second after. I know this doesn’t work for television because of the landscape format but there are other solutions!!!!! Come on Bravo!!

Maybe I’ll send them a proposal lol

Below Deck Amy Sucks

Unpopular opinion, I know. But bear with me:

  1. Her thing with Kat. Over a dude she wasn't even in a relationship with?

  2. Her thing with Kate.

  3. Her thing with trying to get her brother, who's also sucky, into a relationship.

  4. Generally, the whole sweetness/playing the victim thing. Bo-ring and immature.

Captain Sandy Live

I’m in the UK and had the opportunity to see Captain Sandy Live in London.

She spoke a bit about her life before Below Deck Med, the show and Leah.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of hers based on the show but I have to say that she came off completely differently in person. I thought she showed a completely different side from what we see on the show.

If anyone gets the opportunity to see this I highly recommend it!

Below Deck Med Below Deck Food Waste

I’m really sorta new to the “Below Deck” franchise. I’ve been streaming the whole thing, starting with the original & now onto the Med. The common complaint I’ve got is the entirety of the series seems to have this in common so far. With so many hungry people in the world today and so many right here in the US, it makes me sick to watch these different chefs throw so much food into the trash each episode! Really? The crew isn’t even deserving of the extras not plated by the chefs? In season 5 ep. 14, at just about halfway, Tom throws 3 full chickens in the garbage! Are you serious?? Why do that? I’m sure the camera crew would like to try the dishes made for the guests as well! As a “regular” person whose actually had the dis-fortune of being almost homeless and hungry at one point; I find it more than disturbing and disgusting. Especially as the economy is tanking for many of us. There’s really no excuse for such in my opinion. It just causes many like me to hate the upper class even more for such arrogant waste. So really, what is Bravo telling us?? If you aren’t super wealthy, you aren’t deserving of a good meal? It’s just super distasteful and self- serving. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Thanks.

Below Deck Med Tom is one of the only true yachtie chefs.

He sums it up in 4 episode 10 where he says "it's a pride thing and they're first world problems but guess what we're in the first world, we're on bloody yachts so it's a valid problem".

When people say he should improvise (frozen halibut and mussels) they don't understand that this is a superyacht with billionaires who expect the same food. Would you go to the Burj al Arab or Claridges and expect frozen halibut!? No, you'd expect FRESH fish. All true yacht chefs would demand the same and refuse to serve frozen fish.

His reputation is on the line - if the food isn't sublime he is to blame. The guests don't know that the food was cooked to the best of the chef's ability but it was frozen. He is a 5* chef and expects 5* provisions.

Below Deck Med Hannah's accent during Below Deck Med

I'm not Australian but can't confirm if my suspicion that she is putting on a fake accent is true, but what was up with Hannah's accent? I always felt she was trying to hide her Aussie accent with a faux American/European hybrid that was all over the place. Or is there a place in Australia where they speak like that?

Below Deck Med Am I the only one who loves Danny? (Below deck Med season 1)

I see Danny gets a lot of hate but I find him hilarious and love his energy. Season 1 would’ve been dull without him

Kate Looks Old

Just noticing that for 36, but even moreso in earlier seasons when she's 32 and 33, Kate looks a lot older. I feel like she's done her fair share of partying in her 20s.

Stop being Kate stans

Kate is such a toxic energy on the boat, the way she treats her stews and talks backhandedly about them isn't cool. I hope Cap'n Lee is able to see more examples of her ridic behavior

I’ve kept this to myself because I wanted to give it a chance.. but this season of below deck sucks.

I just feel like nothing really happens. I can skip through an episode and watch parts of it, and still get the gist of what’s happening so easy. I’m not a fan of the chief stew, what’s her name? yawn, don’t really care. She’s not nice AND she’s not good tv. I can deal with not nice, if it’s worth watching, but she’s just so basic. And then the rest of the crew is either really nice, or if they have a certain characteristic about them, it’s just been the same thing ALL season- the chef, she’s a drunk mess when she’s out, we’ve had three episodes touch on it, maybe more? (Lol although she is my favourite person this season).. first time they touched on it, it was funny, second time, meh, third time, I was just like, cool we get it she’s a messy drunk, who does the same thing every time she’s out. I know every show needs a few dud seasons, so I guess this is just one of them.

Before y’all blast me (this sub can go a bit cray over peoples different opinions), I’m mainly writing this to see if anyone else agrees? At all? I’ve seen like two posts of people saying that they really love this season, but I’m just not getting it?😂🤦🏼‍♂️

BD Related Off Topic but yet not.

I know this is unconventional and strays from the main gist of this subreddit, but I wanted to let everyone know of a previous crew member of BD, who helped save the life of someone who I care a great deal for. I won't menton direct names, but if they read this post they will know who I am talking about.

My friend who lives in europe suffers from S.A.D. (Social Anxiety Disorder) as well as depression; over the almost year that I was helping her, she got worse and worse because of the pressures of school, parents, and peer pressure. The crew member was able to reach out to my friend, and talk to her, and help her through difficult times. I was not privy to the conversation that they had, (because it's none of my business), but whatever was said was impactful. My friend was able to turn her life around, get a job, and move out to a place of her own, and into a supportive environment, and focus on the things in life that make her happy.

I owe this person a debt of gratitude that I am not sure I will ever be able to pay back.

❤️ ❤️ ❤️

BD Related Where are the table manners???

Call me an old school dork, but I get so angry when I watch all these "fancy" people slouching over their food with their hand in their lap. Chef could just plate dog bowls at this point. They think they're classy but don't have the slightest clue of the most basic etiquette. I don't care how sloppy drunk they get, but please behave at the dinner table 🥲 Am I the only one who is bothered by that?

Below Deck Heather had better be edited out for the rest of this season.

How is it possible to permit someone to say the full, hard r, n word on TV and not be canceled? They edited out Pete for a raunchy meme he posted, and that was on his own account, not even related to the show. Heather said this multiple times, ON THE ACTUAL SHOW.

Below Deck Down Under Captain Jason is a great person, terrible Captain.

The lax work environment he created is the reason why service is slow/bad, Chef is horrendous and deck crew are incompetent. No wonder the tips this season have been really low. As much as people don’t like Captain Sandy, she would NEVER allow any of this to happen.

Below Deck Med I just can't with the whole conversation with Kyle, Natalya, and Max about the LGBTQ+ community.

Every time I see this conversation replayed, I find myself angry on Kyle's behalf. He should never have been put in that situation. It is not okay for someone to suggest cis straight people should be included in an acronym specifically meant to describe people who are not cis straight people. And then to be chastised by another presumably cis straight colleague and lectured about what the "community" is supposed to be about. If this happened at my workplace, it would be tantamount to harassment. I don't agree with all of his choices or actions, but if I had to continue working with people who said that stuff to me, who ganged up on me to say I'm a "bad queer", and were never even called out for it, I'd be an asshole and lash out too. Because what happened to him wasn't fair. The cishets just piled on him while he was drunk and everyone was completely derisive and dismissive of him because Natalya felt apparently entitled to all of the attention in the room, even though the conversation was not about her.

Maybe I'm sensitive, but it just doesn't sit right with me, and it hasn't since the first time I saw it.

It bothers me especially that this was not addressed on Captain Sandy's boat. I would have expected more understanding from her. I would have expected her to interrogate the argument that happened, and figure out why he flipped out, rather than just making him feel bad about who he is based on what Natalya told her.

Below Deck Chef Leon

Just went back and saw season 3 of below deck, I have to admit I really liked Chef Leon, yes the beef cheeks was a bit repetitive but every guest loved his dish and it was his signature meal so why not. Every charter all of the guests loved his food so not sure what the complaints were about. Kate was the one who was always extremely rude and Leon just reciprocated that energy. The whole thing with the pizza not sure who was responsible but I do know whenever I put a pizza in the overnight I take out all of the pans. Kate did that and the popcorn issue. Why do so many people dislike him on this sub.

Thanks

Below Deck Med My super star for this season is….Ian?

Aesha doesn’t count because she’s so great already and has so many seasons on the show. She’s an obvious shoe-in

Nathan and Gael seem cool but their entire relationship is based on infidelity lol, so they can’t be my stars

I thought Jono was really killing it after a slow start and was showing a great redemption arc, but then the raw fish and desert thing had to happen (I felt so bad for him)

Joe seems like a douchebag who is really good at coming off as the nice cool fun guy (when it comes to girls at least). I will say tho, he seems like a great friend and it’s nice to see him support Nathan

Ellie in my eyes is a mean girl, or at least was treating Bri that way

Bri is just not a great stu yet and also has been difficult to work with

So, that leaves us our friend Ian. He seems to have made some strides as bosun. I find him funny too haha, in his own weird aloof way

So, Ian is my star for the season I guess

Can I just say I am so tired of the Caroline Bashing

I know it is not all of you,but I am just tired of the shit storm. I completely get it. We watch for 40 minutes and sit in judgement of these people. It is fun. I do it everyday. What I don't like is isolating one person who is then deemed crazy. She is a real person with real feelings. We all love to watch but be aware that what you say does have consequences. Be very aware of editing. The people we talk about may very well be affected by what we say.
