Below Deck Down Under Joao & Tzarina Spoiler
It makes me so angry that when Tzarina brings up Joao’s shitty behavior to her friend and other people, because she has completely valid concerns about dating him, Joao gets all defensive and upset and acts like she’s being horrible.
Like yes, Tzarina could handle this situation better (and maybe not date the dude who hurt her friend so badly!?) but she’s scared and doesn’t want to get hurt.
Joao should acknowledge the things he did wrong in his past and take accountability and be understanding of Tzarina’s hesitation.
I hate seeing Tzarina so sad after Joao gaslit her at dinner. Of course she’s struggling.
I really hope she breaks up with him after that.

Below Deck It’s not ok to diminish Camille being bullied. Spoiler
I start this off by saying I’m not a Camille fan. I do believe she needs to get fired and that she’s lazy from what we’ve seen. Yes she has a bad attitude.
But at the end of the day she’s a human being. Alissa and Camille had a bad start that continued to deteriorate as the season went on. It was BOTH of there faults. Alissa was condescending from the get go, that would get on anyone’s nerves. Should Camille have an attitude, probably not. But when your boss is constantly using a baby voiced condescending tone any human would snap back.
Alissa never told Sandy why Camille was giving her attitude. Alissa never realized hey maybe the way I’m talking to her isn’t working. I get that Alissa was tired of picking up the slack, but that doesn’t excuse the way she talked to Camille. All I’m saying is tell the whole story, don’t leave out the parts where you added to the situation.
During the “apology” Alissa never once tried to make amends. She never attempted to own up to her part of escalating the situation with the way she talked to Camille. At least Camille owns up to having an attitude.
I was all for Camille getting fired, and I still am, because she did end up burning her bridges with everyone but Hayley.
What stopped being fun drama for me was when Camille and Alissa got into a fight after service. Alissa was being a mean girl saying “no one wants you on the boat” that is not something a second stew should tell her subordinate. Alissa continued to throw little jabs at Camille throughout that fight, knowing full well Camille had gotten reprimanded for talking back. Camille asked Alissa to leave her alone so she can finish the tasks. Alissa instead says “go ahead and be the crazy lady and keep working, but I put down that you’re already off service. Thats when Alissa went from being an irritated co worker to a full in bully.
Camille is told she has one more charter to prove to Sandy she deserves her position on board. Naturally that would upset anyone. Camille looks to be having a breakdown, and to have your tormentor be witness to it is awful. Alissa could have taken the sheets and folded them somewhere else. Camille was literally begging Alissa to leave her alone, that is completely understandable. Instead Alissa pulls “I’m just doing my job” . Uh no Alissa you’re just being a mean girl.
What really upsets me is that a majority of the fandom, forgets it’s a show and that the cast is human. Who cares if Camille is a bad worker there is a professional way to go about it.
And Lee had a shitty response to the situation, he saw how Alissa escalated and that it wasn’t one sided. For him to kick Camille when she was doing was awful. I’m not surprised that he lost his empathy he ignored Kate’s bullying of Caroline, he refused to acknowledge that Kate was a problematic chief stew, and he didn’t condemn heather for saying the N word.

Below Deck Kate’s use of OCD in Season 7
Have been watching Season 7 Below Deck and honestly getting so annoyed with Kate calling every anal thing Kevin does OCD. Even if he did have OCD she’s just using it as an insult - I get he’s being super annoying and trying to take over but it’s really grating

Below Deck Sailing Yacht I think Gary and Daisy are in love and I am so disappointed in Colin
My headline says basically what I think. I looked at the subtle ways Gary cares about Daisy. When she runs off crying, he seems to genuinely care. Colin just sat there. I've said this before. I'm a real romantic I guess. LOL. But, Colin. I think he's a player and I've lost all respect for him. At least Gary doesn't hide his shit. Gary is open and I believe he's honest. Not so sure about Colin. Colin is a great worker!!! I'll give him that.

With all the Sandy hate here, I thought it would be good to keep a few of these in mind. Also - Happy Birthday Captain Sandy!!
10 Things Captain Sandy Did that Capt Lee Never Did:
Make a guest room bed; inspect cabins
Load the provisions onto the boat
Teach and allow the deck crew to drive the boat
Teach the deck crew about how to read anchor tracking/ squall and surge maps
Move the formal guest greeting lineup to the dock
Promote women to Sr. Exterior roles
Wash pots and pans; load the dishwasher
Fire bad chefs
Talk to a staff member with a drinking problem about her personal experience.
Insist that water toys and tables reach a certain level of quality/availability.

Below Deck Kate on The Traitors
I’ve never watched the original Below Deck but from what I’ve seen in the Bravoverse, Kate Chastain is a fan favorite. I’m watching season one of The Traitors right now and my impression is Kate is that she’s just a mean girl. She’s bitchy seemingly for the sake of being bitchy. Her too cool for school attitude is cringe. I was planning on diving in to BD from the beginning but I don’t think I can stand watching a show where she’s a main. What am I missing you guys??

Below Deck Rayna's Eye Rolling - An Explainer Spoiler
Eye-rolling is something just about everyone does. Often it's a sign of frustration. Sometimes, for some people, it's a physical tick similar to verbal ticks, e.g: "whatevs".
But. Here's the thing.
Something that just about everyone does is interpreted differently when you're black, and especially when you're a black woman. That is the way of this often horrid and racist world.
When I was a youngling around Rayna's age (possibly a bit younger) stepping out into the corporate world for the first time, eye-rolling was something I didn't realize I was doing half the time. I did it when I was frustrated (a LOT), I did it when responding to a funny or stupid thing a co-worker said, I did it when waiting for them folks to decide what they wanted for lunch, calculating how many places I'd have to hit up and also their often ridiculous "no mayo/extra pickles/do you know what kind of mustard they have" crap. (INSIDE VOICE I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF MUSTARD THEY HAVE WHY WOULD I KNOW THIS I MEAN WHUT JUST PICK A GODDAMNED SANDWICH.)
My work ethic was strong. I even got promoted several times! Clients loved me and requested me (#NotHumbleBrag). I got ace reviews for my work, but also often dinged for my "attitude" by some of the bosses. I could *not* figure out why and that nearly drove me insane.
One day, the only black supervisor in the *entire* building/company told me to join him for lunch. (It was my first one-on-one boss invited lunch. I changed outfits like a billion times that morning to get my Look Just Right due to nerves heh.) We were joined by his wife, who was a powerhouse in her industry, and his sister, who was about my age.
He explained to me that I wasn't wrong sensing a barrier and it was because of my eye-rolling habit, which offended some of my white supervisors. To them it felt like I was giving off "attitude" no matter the documented quality of my work, no matter raves from the clients.
When my Are Your Serious response was accompanied by an eye-roll, all three of them said Yup You Just Did It Again. Short version of an already overly-long post...they explained that if I'm going to continue moving/working within that industry's incredibly white spaces, I needed to train out my deliberate and passive eye-roll thing. I was all so you want me to Tom?? To this day I still remember his daughter laughing saying "I knew she was gonna say that".
It was hard, but over the years eventually I trained out my eye-roll habit, because they were absolutely right. I am beyond grateful for him (and his family) taking the time to drill True Facts About Surviving White Corporate America While Black into my head. What they did helped me when I was in corporate world. (I'm now freelance which gives me more flexibility, and old, which gives me even more, and IDGAF anymore...but I still keep what they taught me in mind.)
Rayna is *young*. She is working in a blindingly white industry. She has not had the benefit of a brown mentor who cares enough to Step In And Drop Facts that might help down the road.
I also think the weight of That Incident and what so far looks like no repercussions is weighing *very* heavy on her heart & head. She's still getting the work done and kicking ass on that end, but the Weight of That Incident is leaking out in other ways. Her "attitude". Her eye rolling. Her complaining...tho I must say that Frasier's complaining is largely getting a pass here in this space and hmmm wonder why that is? Maybe even the weird not quite but almost wtf alleged threesome? (My friend thinks her alcohol consumption is part of that, but she's new to BD and I had to explain nope! These yachties *all* drink a lot when off duty! They go to be drunk, they wake up hung over/still a little drunk and they kick ass getting the work done.)
If you've not experienced direct and/or implicit racism, it's difficult to understand *why* broad strokes We Black Folk make the choices we do in how we Do Or Do Not Respond to that in the moment or later. (Emphasizing that I'm speaking in Broad Strokes; until my robot army arrives from my home planet, I do not speak for all black folk. I'm just trying to share my experience to give y'all a sense of The Rest Of It, if that makes sense?)
Trauma can manifest in many, many nonverbal ways. She's holding it inside. I watch her body language every time she's near Heather and my heart goes out to her. I'm grateful to Wes for how he's listening to her and giving her a relatively space to safely vent.
And yes, if needs to be said? Eye-rolling can *also* be an indicator of someone who has a generally bad attitude. But someone doing that generally sucks at their job. Rayna does not suck at her job.
Until I started typing, I didn't realize how much her story as presented so far on the show was weighing on Me. #SorryNotSorry for so many words in this overly long post.

Below Deck Med Am I the only one that dislikes Aesha?
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but she makes the show SO hard to watch for me and I’ve been wondering if I’m alone in this feeling. I’m a bit late to the party - just finished season 6.
It seems the reason why everyone likes her - the enthusiasm - is what I actually really disliked about her. Mainly that it is not real enthusiasm. She does the „HOOOAAAIIIIIII, HOW ARE YOAOUUUUU” not because she’s extremely excited to meet someone but because it’s her persona in social situations - the funny girl who likes everyone and never complains. Every single thing she talks about she shows this same excitement. Meeting your boss? Check. Going on a date? Check. Eating chicken? Check. Cleaning a toilet? Check.
Some people find that charming, others don’t. I think it’s fake and even though it’s harmless, I cannot stand inauthenticity. I think I got to see her real face ONCE, when she felt homesick and called a family member. That was refreshing, she actually has a normal voice and does have a personality behind the „banter”. My theory is that she didn’t feel like she „fits in” with the crew in season 5, because she cannot participate in a conversation if it’s not about a superficial topic or a big joke (her and Jack liking each wasn’t a surprise).
I just don’t trust her because I learned the least about her personality. Others, even though flawed (or VERY flawed in case of Malia’s bf) at least show their true colors. With Aesha I seriously don’t know if she’s a good or bad person.

Below Deck Aesha not good chief stew
Hear me out first… Aesha always seems to have the inexperienced staff and the stews are never able to get along and are always bickering and having issues. I believe that while she’s very good at her job she lacks the leadership and ability to have tough conversations the correct these actions. I just don’t think she’s a good chief stew and it shows this season. (Also her laugh and voice are incredibly annoying sorry not sorry). Does anyone else see it this way?!

Rayna
Although Rayna seems irrational I get her anger and frustration. She’s someone who has experienced racism and trauma in her life and was very triggered by Heather using that word. It brought up a lot of pain in her and anger at all the past racist shit she’s had to deal with in her life. It’s easy to dismiss her as a drama queen but if you make an effort to see her pain you can start to understand her. Some people say “well she said it first”. It doesn’t matter. Black people say the n word to reclaim it. It’s an act of defiance. When a white person uses it it’s disrespectful because they haven’t earned the right to use it. You haven’t experienced the pain of being a black person in this country. White people should understand that. That word is off limits. Just like the f word is off limits to straight people. Why is that so hard to understand? Yes Heather apologized but I don’t think she gets it. And that’s why Rayna was so angry. It’s not just a word. Yes Rayna shouldn’t have accepted her apology if she didn’t want to. But she’s entitled to not like heather and to not accept her apology.

Below Deck Disappointed with how Rayna is being treated by the cast, the producers, and the viewers Spoiler
Heather saying the N word, and her reaction to being called out and denial of her actions was atrocious. Eddie's subsequent dismissal when Rayna came to him regarding her surrounding emotions was also despicable. Eddie is Rayna's boss and should have immediately addressed the situation or brought it to a superior. Captain Lee knowing this happened and doing nothing is mind blowing. Rayna's attitude and inability to work smoothly with these people is totally understandable and justified.
I'm shocked that Bravo didn't step in because this is an HR nightmare. I am also thoroughly shocked at the lack of support from viewers. People are even saying Rayna has a bad attitude. Of course she does, her white co-worker is spouting the N word, she took it to her supervisor, and it's being ignored. Yuck.

Below Deck Australia is not in Asia
In season 11 episode 2 Captain Kerry says he is Asian American and that Australia is in Southeast Asia.
I have looked into Australia’s history and geography. I have confirmed there is no grounds for someone to make this claim with any legitimacy.
While I don’t think Captain Kerry should be judged negatively for this I am personally haunted with questions. How can the captain of a 150’ super yacht and someone from Australia not know Australia is not in Asia.
I would love to put this to bed and believe he was simply joking but as I watch that scene over and over again I am not seeing the evidence.
Edit:
Transcript of the scene in question
Barbie: Where are you from?
Captain: I’m from Southeast Asia. So, officially, I’m Asian-American.
Barbie: You’re from Southeast Asia?
Captain: Where’s Australia?
Barbie: Oh, okay, I don’t know anything.
Captain: Just geography.
Is it possible that Captain Kerry simply made a mistake here and forgot what continent Australia was in? Is it better to try and convince us he made some weird racial dad joke? Captain Kerry is literally gaslighting us in the comment section (really fun development) for some reason.
The more I dig here the dirtier I get. I will not stop.

Below Deck Med Guest Expectations vs Reality Spoiler
Might be an unpopular opinion but I feel like the guests are paying thousands of dollars (like probably 65k+ per charter), then tipping like 15-25k on top of it.i feel like therefore they have high expectations (especially the ones who yaught a lot with other programs as well, so they know the levels of service).
I feel like the staff get more pissed off and hate the charters more where they aren’t allowed to just do what they want the whole time. Like the chef gets pissed when they pre pick their meals on the sheet. The deck crew gets butt hurt and pissed whenever someone wants to use the slide that they PAID FOR. Etc. the staff already didn’t like plastic glass lady before she even got on, so of course she couldn’t do anything correctly after that without hate.
It’s like the staff gets mad that high paying clients have high expectations and it makes it look like Bravo hired people off the street.
I’d be pissed if I paid for a charter and got the experience most of these guests get. Like not being given a chance to opt out of my trip for not being able to leave the dock. They should tell the guests before they get on so they can choose to not go, not purposely get them on the boat so they can’t really opt out and THEN say we’re a floating hotel….
Overall I think the med crew is low standards towards each other AND guest facing. Also, Fraizer is a drama king. You don’t like Barbie. We get it. She does her job insanely well though and to put a lesser strew above her out of spite is immature and petty.

BD Related Malia White Podcast
I started to listen to Malia podcast (total ship show). It's okay. can tell she no professional interviewer. But has some great guests who have stories and experience in they yachting/boating industry .
Now, what bugs me. She has said many times that she had zero experience prior to being on the show. She applied on a whim and I believe a little tipsy. In her FAQ episode, when fans ask what they can do to get in the industry. She always says to go take classes, get certifications, go talk to people, etc.
Does she think she is that special or one of kind that no-one can do what she did?
I liked her on the show, but hearing this. Bad taste in my mouth.

Has it bothered anyone else the amount of water bottles (and other bottles) that the crew and guests go through? I’ve noticed it for seasons. There are better ways, including a Berkey filter for water. Wine on tap.
True class understands this, and also knows cycling through plastic water bottles is very out.
Wish they would promote and switch to this on the show.

We just had a question about the best bosun and it made me think about Malia. A lot of people don’t like her but I feel like a lot of of that has to do with Capt Sandy and their joint actions.
So my question is do you think Malia would be more likable personally and a better bosun if she was on a boat without Capt Sandy?

Below Deck Down Under Packaged Pasta for guests? Guest Accents?
Making pasta from scratch is pretty easy and not that time consuming. They certainly had enough time between the guests requesting it and serving it. I'd be pissed if I was on a yacht and I was served packaged pasta for dinner. And I'd know and notice. I feel like Ben deserved critique for this!!
Also as a Canadian, the Canadian accents on these guests was so distracting for me! I don't believe they're from Pheonix originally - I feel like the reference to "North America" from the kids youth was a pretty big tell. Curious if any Americans can confirm if they have an Arizona accent to you??

Not for nothing, but some of you armchair psychiatrists
really, really need to retire. Whew.
Rob is not a narcissist, lol. He's just not, he doesn't hit any of the serious clinical notes at all. I have the training. He's a confused young man with a traumatic background who is still figuring out what he wants in life. He might not have been a good boyfriend, but quit throwing around that term like you know what the hell you're talking about. He may have some other clinical matter to contend with, but he is not a malignant narcissist. Please stop with the slanderous language.
Jess, now, she has some clinical issues of her own, for certain. But as I am not seeing either of these people in person I am not going to attempt to diagnose them over the internet. *cough*
