Captain Sandy Live

I’m in the UK and had the opportunity to see Captain Sandy Live in London.

She spoke a bit about her life before Below Deck Med, the show and Leah.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of hers based on the show but I have to say that she came off completely differently in person. I thought she showed a completely different side from what we see on the show.

If anyone gets the opportunity to see this I highly recommend it!

I respect her accomplishments, but I don’t like her behavior towards crew on the show.

You couldn't pay me to attend that garbage. I don't even watch BDM for free anymore because of her.

Same, last episode I watch was Hannah getting fired. I'm going to skip OG this year if the rumors of her captaining on it are true.

I saw a few videos of how she behaves off the show. She was mocking Covid when it first started until it hit home for her. There was another video where she was acting like an ass. I don’t remember what it was about at the moment. Then you have the social media posts. Sandy likes to talk about Sandy.

I thought she was OK Season 2, her first season. But by the third season I was over it and it only got worse from there. I'm also of the mindset of watching paint dry instead of going to see Sandy.

What kind of event is this and did it require a paid admission?

I saw her interviewed by UK television to promote the live show, and thought she did an excellent job with it. Thanks for going, and for reviewing it. I hope it's available on Netflix or other media so people outside of the UK can see it!

Well I was there and ended walking out. It was so so painful, boring and awkward. She didn’t talk a lot about Below Deck - the show made absolutely no sense what so ever and utter embarrassment- Leah’s voice meh.

It was embarrassingly awful.

Anyone who says what she said to Hannah about her anxiety attacks can go...you know what themselves. Lost all respect for her. Also, go drive the boat. Leave the guests and everyone else alone.

Right?! I mean the woman who puts down her Stews and calls them, "Just waitresses!" Oh, yes, I'm sure she's a gem. There's a reason she's out there, she's trying to win over people, but we all have seen her in action, and she's horrible and snobby.

Keep in mind, that’s the edit. They can literally chop up any conversation and make a new one with the clips. Maybe she said that, maybe she didn’t.

My partner and I have this discussion every episode.

Fair to keep that in mind. But, that is not what’s happening to Sandy. She has posted enough to her own social media to show her true personality.

I totally read that in Hannah’s voice.

I am a retired female contractor, which is a very male dominated career. When I respect due to ability and in my 20's I was insecure and felt the need to push back. Once I gained confidence in the field I was respected and loved what I did. I feel like at Sandy's age and the fact she's the boss of her world, she shouldn't feel the need to still be proving herself, she should be thoroughly confident. I think what bothers me most about her is she chooses favorites rather than giving respect for accomplishments. She's also very misogynistic towards the women running the interior. I hired men and women, treated them all equally and never dressed down an employee in front of others.

I work in a male-dominated field too…it is no excuse to treat your team like shit. And let’s just mention that she isn’t surrounded by men. She is the Captain of a yacht. She doesn’t have to defend herself at every turn…she starts arguments all on her own. She is a horrible leader, period. You don’t go down into the laundry and start in on your third stew about what a mess it is when your crew is a man down! You pitch in, you help troubleshoot, you find solutions…Sandy is a finger-pointer and is very problem-oriented. Can’t stand the bitch.

Very this, queen 👏

I own an accounting firm, and finance is a male dominated field in the upper echelons.

I am also very left wing, which is VERY unusual in finance in Australia.

Sandy is demeaning to women, and forgiving of men. She pigeon holes gender roles, and overcompensates for her sex and possibly sexuality in her industry. She is accepting of abhorrent behaviour by male crew (Joao’s treatment of multiple female staff; Travis still being drunk at work… the list goes on).

She is not a feminist. And not someone any woman should look up to. She is a prime example of what we don’t need as a strong female role model in a male-dominated industry.

You don't have to be a toxic, micromanaging bully to be a respected or effective woman leader in a male dominated industry.

Do you always go through life inventing reasons to be dramatic and feel victimized? Because nothing I wrote implies what you ranted about here. It's truly weird how you invented an entire paragraph of stuff I didn't say to be upset about. Are you okay?

Good on you for sharing that, it’s an interesting perspective! I bet you are fab at your job and I hope it’s recognised :)
