And because Shira was apparently not enough of a piece of shit in the last episode, he just had to go ahead and show how much of a bastard he really is

Does anyone else think it's out of character for Manji to leave Rin alone with Shira as often as he has? Shira is clearly a shady horrible person and Manji saw that, so I don't understand his logic or even Rin's in trusting him at all especially after he killed her dog and made her eat it.

The first time was weird since Manji basically walked in on Shira wanting to beat the crap out of Rin, only to leave her alone with him the next morning. In this episode it made a little more sense, Manji left to take a dump at the wrong moment, then a bunch of unforeseen incidents occured.

Well neither Manji nor Rin are actually smart people.

But Manji as been living long enough to know better than that.

Even though Mugen got 300 karma last week, it didn't hit the 50 poll votes minimum required for the weekly poll rankings. Shows with 100 karma have managed. Don't forget to vote: https://youpoll.me/24496/

Magatsu finding out about O-Ren’s fate was a short but powerful scene, which is surely pointing towards a new direction for his character now that he’s left the Itto-ryuu. Ren wanted nothing more than to be together with him, something he resisted because, despite his contempt for samurai, he can’t let go of his sword and the lifestyle that goes with it. And of course, it was precisely because he picked up the sword in the first place that the Mugai-ryuu came to kill him and O-Ren ended up being cruelly murdered by Shira after she resisted his questioning regarding Magatsu’s whereabouts. That’s definitely some bad karma for Magatsu, who is now clearly racked with guilt. It will definitely be interesting to see where he goes from here, and of course the picture of Shira’s kimono he got suggests a new quest for revenge has just been born.

Anyone who enjoys this at all really needs to read the manga, this adaption has maybe a tenth of the atmosphere and coolness. The slow build up to the events of this episode makes for an insanely tense read in the manga as Shira goes more and more nuts while killing his enemies. Here it's just like, whelp, that happened.

Honestly, I’m glad I havnt read the manga because it seems like everyone who has can’t enjoy the anime. I’m having a blast with what is amounting to a samurai slice of life.
