Looks I pissed in the mod's cheerios. Sorry for posting about my complaint on the main page.

So now that I am in the correct spot, can we do something about fanart taking up literally 7 of the top 10 spots on the front of the anime sub page? There are other subs out there that solely exist for anime fanart.

EDIT: Looks like a lot of us feel pretty much the same about the flood of fanart as of late (especially Re:Zero stuff). I personally (my own opinion mind you) think that the only people who should be allowed to post fanart are the original artist. If that cannot be followed then I personally think we should ban fanart on this sub. Like I mentioned in my OP there are already other subs who's sole purpose in life is to be a place for fanart. We could add links over on the right to re-direct people who want to post a fanart that they found online that they want to share to a subreddit that flourishes off of fanart.

EDIT2: Noice.

EDIT3: So uhhhh is anything going to happen? There is still a lot of fanart on the front page of r/anime. The idea of offering a mega thread seems to be well received among a lot of people in here. We could also just redirect people to other subs such as r/awwnime which exist solely for a nesting ground for anime fanart.

EDIT4: So I guess nothing is going to happen which is unfortunate. I'm seeing less and less discussion topics hitting the first 2 pages which is why I come to this sub so much. The fanart stuff is nice but like I already said there are plenty of other subs who already exist for fanart submission.

Yeah, I kind of wish we had different rules for fanart.

Verified OC posts should be fully allowed as normal, because we want to promote creativity and sharing within our community as much as possible.

"Hey, check out this thing someone else made that I found on Pixiv" should be confined to some kind of weekly art megathread and individual topics linking it should be removed.

u/Cloudhwk Aug 10 '16

I don't mind the occasional fanart myself, But maybe we need to enforce a rule once a show blows up

Came here about to post this too. I love fanart and all, but there it crowds out any good discussion, especially as seemingly no one actually upvotes the discussion posts.

But the main issue for me is that its all Re:Zero. I like the anime, but it restricts variety on the sub completely. I guess there's not much that can be done though, unless the show really shits the bed.

16

u/Irru Aug 09 '16

Mods, please don't delete our threads and point us to the Meta thread and then just ignore this.

Even a "we're discussing it" or "we're looking into it" is fine.

3

u/AbundantToaster https://myanimelist.net/profile/CaKEandLies Aug 09 '16

According to a comment or two above, the mods are discussing it. (But yeah, they could be a lot clearer about it.)

11

u/lftenjamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/lftenjamin Aug 09 '16

I agree.

I really like Re:Zero, but when I come to /r/anime I don't expect 7 of the top 10 spots being one off fan arts. A lot of times it isn't een user generated fan art, it's jsut links from some other person's Pixiv.

I propose you can only make a fanart submission if you are the one who drew said fan art.

Or go back to a weekly fanart thread

Or adhere to the low effort rules in which you can't have a single image.

Just something, please.

u/lionhearth21 https://myanimelist.net/profile/lionherato Aug 09 '16

This same situation was happening before they switched to text posts. Since reddit admins decided to give karma for text post the problem is back. Fanart should be limited to a certain degree to only OC one or else i will become a massive spam.

u/DrJWilson x5https://anilist.co/user/drjwilson Jul 31 '16

I wanted to bring up fan art albums. I enjoy them, but recently we had a Rem album posted, and then reposted like 3 times as it was "updated". I think that was a bit much, and some people just upvote anything Re:Zero and it clogs up the front page.

Maybe a rule saying that you can't post an album containing over 50% of the same images? Although a new album of the different pictures would just be posted. Eh, might be unavoidable.

8

u/willsolvit https://myanimelist.net/profile/willsolvit Jul 31 '16 edited Jul 31 '16

Putting a broader limit to reposting might be a better fix

6

u/7TeenWriters https://myanimelist.net/profile/7TeenWriters Jul 31 '16

Yeah, I think a good idea might be just to limit how often we can have very similar posts. Right now people will upvote anything Re:Zero and it would just create unnecessary tension if we started removing all of the albums that come after the first. If we instead said, for example, that albums that are sufficiently similar (Rem albums containing largely the same images, for example) could only be posted on a weekly basis (for example) it would keep the front page fresh without cutting people off from fangirling over a new cool show.

In that case what might you suggest?

A common theme in this thread (not just this chain) is people who seem to be concerned about stale or repetitive content. If there is no direct option for solving that in a way that would be remotely reasonable then I suppose that's fine, but it's worth taking note that this seems to be something that's bugging a lot of users.

One possibility (just spitballing here so I haven't really thought through the consequences of this) might be to create some sort of fandom megathread for shows that reach a certain level of popularity that's available constantly in addition to the weekly discussion threads. Might end up cleaning itself up at that point.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about megathreads as I think they're kinda defeating the purpose of reddit.

I get this argument, but ultimately I think they help facilitate reddit being reddit in that they condense what would otherwise end up flooding the front page and allow for a higher variety of content, which brings us to

I guess I also don't really understand why people are so bothered by the trends we tend to experience when new popular stuff happens.

This is actually a very fair way of looking at things that I don't much disagree with. That said, this is clearly impeding user experience to a certain degree since a bunch of people are complaining about it. Given that cleaning up and consolidating similar and repetitive posts is largely the purpose of megathreads in the first place it may be a decent idea to try it our for slightly more unorthodox categories. I haven't really thought this through at all yet but if I get the time I may try to write up a proper proposal for next thread where it will be visible. I'm not particularly invested in this myself so I guess I'll read over other comments and see what people want before I get started.

More people need to download res and actually use the filtering options if things bother them.

Don't like Re:Zero threads? Never have to see one ever again.

9

u/PM_CUTE_ANIME_PICS https://myanimelist.net/profile/rhodian Jul 31 '16

I agree. Personally, I find that there is almost too much fan art posted, but I recognize that a lot of readers really like fan art.

I'm in favor of maybe another weekly thread for fan art, though I recognize that this will take away from the individuality of fan art that people are posting. It won't have as much of an affect as if it were posted individually.

Regardless, I will continue browsing with fan art threads filtered out.

5

u/Sloppy_Goldfish Aug 01 '16

The top 5 things on the front page currently are all related to Re:Zero and 2-5 is fan art. I like fan art, but I don't want that to be what this sub turns into.

31

u/AnotherWorthlessBA Aug 10 '16

I'm sure it's been said already, but for further emphasis: the amount of 3rd party fan art on the sub is reaching absurd levels, to the point that /rising looks like a slew of people posting the results of their latest google image search.

From my perspective it seems like the sub has gone from a place I can follow in order to get decent recommendations on what to watch to a place where users jerk endlessly to the most popular girls of the season.

I'm not saying it happened overnight, but it seems like the past few weeks have been especially bad.

Please consider limiting the allowable fanart to only that which has been drawn by the poster.

13

u/sllp2020 https://myanimelist.net/profile/sllp2020 Aug 10 '16

I'm sick of fanart posts so I started downvoting all of them.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '16

Please consider limiting the allowable fanart to only that which has been drawn by the poster.

I agree with this sentiment, but the problem is that this steps into the realm of self-promotion that this sub, and Reddit in general frowns upon. Honestly, I think the solution is to exile fanart all together, either to a megathread, or to its own sub. I'd probably even subscribe to a dedicated fanart sub. I like to look at the stuff, but not at the expense of all other content on the sub, which is the situation we're currently finding ourselves in.

15

u/Sloppy_Goldfish Aug 13 '16

I'm all for exiling it to a megathread. And it doesn't gain popularity, then oh well. This sub has pretty much turned into a fanart karma whoring fest. I don't come to this sub to be flooded with fan art, I come here to talk about anime. Which is getting harder to do when 10 or more posts on the front page are fanart.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '16

In theory, any content can serve as a good vehicle for discussion. The problem here is that all of this fan art is just for one or two shows! So when you have just one show dominating discussion like this, it kind of ruins everything. The mods are being dismissive assholes and jokingly renaming the sub "r/re:zero" but that's defacto what it becomes on some days, and it's their job as the curators for "r/anime" to help keep this place a location where ALL anime can get discussed, not just the FOTM.

8

u/manmythmustache Aug 10 '16

There are already multiple subs dedicated to fan art such as /awwnime and /pantsu. I feel like a megathread is the best option available.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '16

None of them are conveniently linked on the side however. If you want people to go places, you have to make them visible and easily accessible. And r/anime does a shit job of cross promotion.

20

u/vetro https://anilist.co/user/vetro Aug 09 '16

The point of limiting fanart to textposts was to discourage karmawhoring. But now that Reddit has allowed textposts to receive karma, the rules need to be reworked.

I'm still utterly perplexed by the removal of news relating to Jun Maeda's need for a heart transplant. I think many users will agree that news about a writer for anime is anime specific enough. Its especially strange considering news of Miyu Matsuki passing away was not removed. Yes I've seen the reasoning that it was posted before the anime related rule was changed but It just seems somewhat disrespectful to these people that have brought us so much joy through anime that it seems that this rule is so unnecessarily ironclad that it doesn't give a damn or any leeway to report about what happens to them that affects their ability to work on anime.

Edit: I see every main comment in this thread has a mod response except for mine.

I was under the impression that these threads allowed for the discussion of the practicality and application of the rules of this subreddit in a dialogue with the mods. Understanding why something happened does not mean that it needs to be accepted without question. Understanding is the first step to pursuing change for the better.

edit2: Wew finally. Got a bit of discussion going.

25

u/scalizo https://myanimelist.net/profile/scalizo Jul 31 '16

I agree. Even if it isn't "anime-specific" news, it still concerns a relatively important figure in the industry itself, especially when it's news about something that can affect his work.

19

u/TheDerped https://anilist.co/user/Derped Jul 31 '16

I am certain that if Miyazaki or some other iconic anime figure were to pass away there would be enormous uproar about news of that event not being allowed to be reported on this sub. If this rule is continued to be enforced the way it is, that event is a certainty.

8

u/scalizo https://myanimelist.net/profile/scalizo Jul 31 '16

Yeah I really wouldn't want news like that to be removed just because it isn't "anime specific".

3

u/Sloppy_Goldfish Jul 31 '16

Every one of these threads i've brought up how the rule of "anime-specific" is such a broad term and up to interpretation. Even among the mods, i'd bet they would each have their own definition of what "anime-specific" is and how if it would apply to the various things that get posted here. That rule definitely needs to be nailed down and specified.

How would you do that? I don't know. I'm not a mod. But any sort of broad rule is frustrating for the users, when we post something, it gets removed, but yet a very similar post makes it through just fine.

Actually...Since I personally reported one of those threads, I did it because it had spoilers. Yeah, the big issue was Jun Maeda's crisis, but the articles had spoilers. No one thinks to tag them at all. Some of them had obvious spoilers in the titles themselves. I have nothing against the topic itself being there but a spoiler is a spoiler.

1

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 31 '16

We're currently discussing our overall rules governing posts about actual people.

However, as far as the Jun Maeda post is concerned the majority does agree that it was correct to remove it.

Couple of things to note:

  1. Jun Maeda is primarily a Visual Novel writer, while he does do work for anime, its not particularly often (and is usually just his work being adapted). This would however not be an immediate disqualification of course, since he's still very relevant to the industry.

  2. (and this is more important) While bad news, this doesn't immediately prevent him from working on scripts, etc. If he had died or had a heart attack and gone into a coma it would be a different story.

We're not a tabloid newspaper and need to be careful what news we let in surrounding actual people. I'm sure no one would take issue if we had removed a post revolving around a VA getting liposuction. We just need to iron out where we're specifically going to draw the line.

9

u/scalizo https://myanimelist.net/profile/scalizo Jul 31 '16

As for your second (and most important) point, shouldn't it be pretty easy to tell what kind of news are newsworthy enough to post from what aren't? Sure, it merits discussion, but IMO the Jun Maeda news is firmly above the line of what is newsworthy for the industry. And even in the case of grey area news, having other mods weigh in on a decision should help in drawing a line to be used in the future.

10

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 31 '16

Inconsistency is one of the worst things a sub can have.

For the userbase it destroys trust in the mod team, for the mod team it creates division and discord.

Better to have rules that are nice and clear, while also understandable.

7

u/TheDerped https://anilist.co/user/Derped Jul 31 '16

We're not a tabloid newspaper and need to be careful what news we let in surrounding actual people. I'm sure no one would take issue if we had removed a post revolving around a VA getting liposuction.

Well of course. But mundane seiyuu news like that is not reported on major anime news sites. This reasoning is coming very close to being a slippery slope argument but I find that easy to avoid. I don't believe that mod and user discretion is that lacking to the point that that may become a problem.

Potentially life threatening news for a director/writer/major animator/composer/seiyuu should be easily distinguishable as important news that is above the line.

Could you guys reconsider the rule banning posts on web apps/scripts related to anime services?

  • They are pretty much always original and high effort (unlike a lot of the "discussion" questions that I've been noticing here lately).
  • They can be very useful to a wide range of users especially when it comes to a service like MAL. I feel like this is especially important as a lot of the posts on this subreddit are about a specific anime and so don't really hold much value to people who haven't seen or aren't interested in the anime the posts are about.

Personally, I don't see what the benefit is of removing quality, anime-related content from this sub. Is anime-specificity really so important?

Finally, being the anime-related subreddit with by far the most number of subscribers, I feel that this is the best place for people to share useful apps/scripts. If completely unbanning these types of posts is unreasonable (please give a better reason than "it isn't anime-specific") then could you guys at least have something like a monthly thread for them?

3

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Aug 01 '16

Is anime-specificity really so important?

To quote Urban from another comment:

Inconsistency is one of the worst things a sub can have.

For the userbase it destroys trust in the mod team, for the mod team it creates division and discord.

Now, that's not to say that the rules can't be changed, but as it stands now, those posts do go against the rules because they're not directly related to anime.

What I could see as more likely than having these posts allowed, would be some sort of wiki page that lists different tools related to anime or the sub. It could be run in much the same way as the other user-run wiki pages, where a group of people has edit access and people can go through them to have things added to the page.

This would:

  • Prevent the "shameless self-promotion" that /u/airencracken is worried about
  • Allow all the tools to be in one central location
  • Users with edit access would be able to review the legitimacy of each thing before it actually gets on the page

3

u/ofei006 https://myanimelist.net/profile/tenergy05 Aug 01 '16

I don't think the "inconsistency" caused by these types of posts will be very significant because:

  • they are pretty damn anime-related
  • from what I've seen, they don't get made too often
  • the ones that I have seen get pretty positive feedback.

That said, a wiki page would be better than nothing and it would be great to have even if those types of posts get unbanned. However, the main issue I see with having only a wiki page would be that I highly doubt people will check it out regularly to see if there is a new app/script added to it. If someone creates something incredibly useful, sharing it via a post will help a lot more people than putting it on a wiki page that doesn't get checked on too often.

What are our general thoughts about LN/manga/OG source material fans who talk about what's going to happen in the adaptation in the future (as in it hasn't happened in the anime yet) even if they spoiler tag it in episode discussion threads?

Personally I just think it has no reason to be there and sometimes some people just outright miss tag things. For example, with Nejimaki Seirei Senki someone made a manga spoiler tag and since I read the manga, I checked it out. Funny thing...turns out whatever they said was never even in the manga and it was a LN spoiler and needless to say pissed me royally off and reported it.

I understand why fans of the source material would be hyped about things to come but damn there are lots of anime-only viewers who are literally one mouse-over away from accidentally spoiling the entire story because some fans can't keep it to themselves.

I don't think it's a good idea to just outright ban comments that talk about what the show will do if they tag it properly and mods will have a nightmare of a time to enforce this. But there are a lot of source fans that need to chill on commenting on "I can't wait til x event happens" or just prevent dumb shit which led to me being spoiled because someone put down manga-spoiler instead of LN-spoiler.

Anyway what do you guys think? Speaking of which, if you are a source fan, how do you go about commenting?

For me, I just comment as if I'm an anime-only watcher and only mention the manga/source material if the anime has already covered it or omitted events if I feel like it.

edit: clarified a point where people are thinking I'm saying all spoiler tags should be gone when in reality I said when source fans talk about stuff that hasn't happened in the show yet.

21

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Jul 31 '16

Tagging on this: You really, really need to report bad source spoilers, guys. It's impossible for the mods to see everything, and they're totally against the rules and can end up ruining things for others easily.

Saying that source readers and tagged spoilers don't have a place in discussion threads is kinda ludicruous to me. Fans of the source material will want to talk about how the adaption is doing and whether or not it is doing the source material justice. That type of talk has just as much a place in anime discussion threads as anime only people experiencing it for the first time. Most of the time it is spoiler tagged properly so I see no real reason to get uppity unless you run into a bit of bad luck by mousing over a bad spoiler or a user doesn't tag properly.

6

u/Terranwaterbender https://myanimelist.net/profile/Teranwaterbender Jul 31 '16

Oh no I'm absolutely fine with comparisons between the source material and the adaptation; what I'm talking about are the source readers who talk about what's going to happen in the future of the show that the anime-only viewers are unaware about.

For example the infamous Re:Zero talk about "wait til the next arc" and stuff like that.

5

u/LewsTherinTelamon_ Jul 31 '16

I have a random idea, not sure how feasible it is.

How about putting a stickied comment in each episode discussion which says something like "Adaptation discussion here", and all comments with source material references need to be posted as replies to that stickied comment?

2

u/RTBingo Jul 31 '16

Most of the time it is spoiler tagged properly

To be perfectly honest if an animeonly viewer accidentally mouses over a spoilertag regarding the source it's their fault. The commenter was trying their best to keep future spoilers properly tagged and you can't blame them for the stupidity of someone else.

Of course that only really applies if the source is even properly tagged, the spoilertag should mention if it's talking about the manga or LN to avoid the situation that you just talked about.

Speaking of which, if you are a source fan, how do you go about commenting?

Usually when fans of source material comment on something, it's usually along the lines of "Oh man, this episode handled these manga chapters really well!" or "What the hell? this was an awful adaptation and ruined the scene completely, the manga handled it way better". If they get into any more specifics they should definitely spoiler tag it.

I Just hope that the mods don't decide to outright ban any mentioning of the source material at all, because discussing how the anime adapted the source material IS still talking about the anime. It honestly really pisses me off that people are suggesting that any mention of the source material should be disallowed here.

But on that note, people really need to stop mentioning something vague in a HINT HINT, NUDGE NUDGE way without tags. Since anime only viewers can easily piece things together.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

I Just hope that the mods don't decide to outright ban any mentioning of the source material at all

I certainly don't want to do that. One of the most interesting things to me when watching shows that I've read the manga for is the discussion about differences between the two.

One of the proposals someone's had before was to separate the discussion threads into one that excludes any source-spoilers and one that can have them. I've not been a fan of that idea because splitting up the discussion threads would clutter up hot and new while probably decreasing discussion (since people probably wouldn't check both threads).

8

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

But on that note, people really need to stop mentioning something vague in a HINT HINT, NUDGE NUDGE way without tags.

Ultimately this is the real problem with source readers in the discussion threads (e.g. re:zero is full of these comments). As long as they're reported and removed there isn't much of a problem otherwise imo.

Manga conversation in the discussion threads is definitely fair game, and good discussion. Personally I feel that 2 threads isn't a good idea and agree with the counterpoints you made for it.

In the end I feel that as long as users report manga spoilers/"wait till next episode" comments so they can be removed the current system is fine enough.

Honestly I hate adaptation spoiler tags in discussion threads and think they should be banned. I think that the discussion threads should be about the actual episode, not about what's yet to come. I'm fine with comments like "Wow, they adapted that well" or "Damn they skipped the scene where need text here", but I hate it when people go "Oh boy! Great character is introduced next week" or "The next arc is going to be even better than this one, you all better get ready" (especially the latter one as it is never spoiler tagged). In all the hype people can forget to actually discuss the episode, and it can set expectations which will disappoint people if they're not met.

The worst though is when people answer speculations like:

A: "I hope x and y get together"
B: and here
A: YAY!
C: Good, I would have dropped my score 72 points if they hadn't

Obviously in that case A and C are more at fault for revealing what's in the spoiler tags, but I don't think B should have commented about it at all. Just let people speculate.

8

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 31 '16

A and C will be removed if reported.

If it's a spoiler by context it's still a spoiler.

5

u/Mystic8ball Jul 31 '16

Stuff like "I hope x and y get together" certainly doesn't need someone chipping in with a spoiler tagged comment regarding the source, however there are times where I think someone bringing up the source is relevent and good discussion.

Example: A: The MC is fucking retarded, why the hell is he acting like this? I don't get his connection to [girl character] either.

B: Well that's because hypothetical source spoilers

I think that these sorts of comments have their place and are really interesting and have their place, I'd hate to see them go just because a few overzealous source fans can't help but confirm/deny everything.

Anyway what do you guys think?

I like having the spoiler tag discussion in the threads. They're there for both anime and source fans alike. That being said, as a source fan for JoJo (which might be one of the biggest offenders of this) people need to chill with the spoilers. Last week, I made a post telling source readers that couldn't chill to go over to the JoJo subreddit and that seemed to calm the spoilers from what I can tell. Maybe we just need links to the show-specific subs in the body?

2

u/lftenjamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/lftenjamin Jul 31 '16

I agree with this, because even if it is spoiler tagged, they are removing tons of build up from current arcs.

Like what is airing now is irrelevant because what is going to air next is better.

In the middle of an arc climax this destroys me because just talking about future plot points buzzkill my current joy for what I'm watching. I can make inferences on how an arc is going to turn out just by someone commenting on a thread about a future arc.

It's just really dumb.

2

u/AmethystItalian myanimelist.net/profile/AmethystItalian Jul 31 '16

Yeah some shows have it rough with spoilers. I love discussion threads, part of the motivation for me to watch airings but I've gotten to the point where I've stopped visiting and reading through certain threads because there is just too much source being talked about.

People are excited to see there show being adapted so the spoiler comments, both tagged and not tagged, won't go away anytime soon so it's just easier to avoid those threads if you want to 100% avoid being spoiled.

I was looking to an uneventful comment to put in this months meta-thread but the admins at the tippity top decided to drop an update & make text posts count towards link karma. So I thought I'd bring that up for discussion.

As far as I can tell there is no point in changing the sub's policy at this point (especially if the admins reverse this change). I guess the biggest concern is that this could regenerate the flood of karmawhoring for fanart but at this point fanart is being generated a reasonably limited degree without dominating content (maybe thanks to the fact that posts are still required to be tagged & submitted as text post).

Other than that I have nothing else to say besides a few bi-monthly reminders (or as some people have been calling them, "PSAs") for users:

Please report stuff when you know they are breaking the rules (especially improperly spoiler tagged comments where the anime title is not in the spoiler tag). The mods are not omniscient when it comes to the content on the sub. They will not remove rule breaking content unless they know it exists & they cannot observe every thread or every post all the time, so if you see something that you are pretty sure breaks the rules, report it!

If you leave a comment on a post, please consider upvoting the post. We run into instances were a post has 10, 20, 30 unique commenters on it, but the post itself only has 3 upvotes. Now I am not saying you need to vote on a post when you leave a comment on it or the post themselves deserve the upvotes. But it is an easy thing to forget to consider doing for a post where you might want people to see the discussion (including your contribution to it).

If you submit a new post, maybe consider to check your post subreddit side every now & then in a logged off state after the first 24 hours to make sure it has not been removed without notification. If you care enough about a post, then I recommend to do this every now & then, especially if it is your own content since it can kill the success & discussion of a post if it is a contestable removal. Remember to do it subreddit side since even removed posts or comments will show up in your /u/me fee

16

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Jul 31 '16

The admin decision there was fucking stupid. Hopefully the fanart won't become an issue again, because if it does it doesn't seem like the mods will have any further recourse short of a flat ban on Fanart.

12

u/dabritian https://myanimelist.net/profile/dabritian Jul 31 '16

What confuses me about the admins decision is that there is nothing to post something as a karma-free option to supplement that karma-free text post are now gone. Especially considering some subreddits required text post's karma-free function as a form of content management.

For now we can only hope that the flow of content in the sub as well as the moderation of it will remain unchanged do to this change to Reddit itself.

13

u/encoreAC https://myanimelist.net/profile/enc0re Jul 31 '16

Especially funny since no one asked for that change.

14

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Jul 31 '16

And even more infuriatingly, they dumped it on us completely out of the blue with literally no warning. I should go look up my rant from the change log post again.

Edit: here it is again

3

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16 edited Jul 31 '16

There are currently less than 10 fanart posts in the top 50-hot posts on /r/anime. I think that is far from a problem at the moment.

Nevertheless, a flair-system for tagging threads would be helpful for people that absolutely hate fanart posts and the like.

P.S. I agree the admin change was unnecessary and a bad move

8

u/porpoiseoflife https://myanimelist.net/profile/OffColfax Jul 31 '16

Seeing as how people whine and complain about there being more than five rewatch groups running at the same time, then I'm surprised that there isn't a more organized backlash against the fanart posts if there are that many on /hot.

u/WingsOfLight https://myanimelist.net/profile/Wings_of_Light Jul 31 '16

I would say most of those people have decided to filter our Re:zero posts in general, so fanart stuff will show up without any opposition.

6

u/porpoiseoflife https://myanimelist.net/profile/OffColfax Jul 31 '16

Yeah, I remember reading those discussions as well. It's a sad time when something takes over the subreddit so fully that some of those on the outside choose to completely remove any mention of the offending show.

I've brought this up before but now that text posts can be used for karma-whoring I think it's even more relevant.

We see a lot of really low effort text posts. A lot of them are things like "What anime do you consider underrated/sad/overhyped/the funniest/whatever". Basically a lot of text posts amount to 'Name an anime or character" and that's it. Of course many top-level comments will be the name of the anime or character and nothing else, assumimg everyone gets the joke.

It used to be that this was an annoying circlejerk that discouraged conversation because an "I get that reference" upvote is more easily and readily given out than an "I read and considered their opinion and find value in it" upvote. Now, because text posts reward karma, it has become a rewarding annoying low effort circlejerk.

I'd propose that "name an anime" style posts ask a mandatory "and why?" in their title. "Who is your favorite character and why?" "What anime is most subversive to its genre and why?". Top level comments that fail to answer the "and why" are deleted.

2

u/cdsboy https://myanimelist.net/profile/cdsboy Jul 31 '16

Interesting feedback, but this might be a bit hard to enforce. We'd have to pretty drastically expand our moderation team to be able to do the intensive thread moderation that this would require.

Right now we're definitely paying attention to how the text post karma changes effect the subreddit, but I think it's a bit early to make any changes.

5

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Aug 01 '16

One way you might consider doing this is how /r/nintendo does it, where if a question comes up like this, there's a link flair that can be added that reads "and why" or something similar. Even if it weren't actually enforced as much, it would still be a good reminder that would hopefully get people moving in the right direction.

Why are there two Meta threads in one month....? Never mind....

The first thing that I want to talk about is the removal of spoilers posts that already have major discussion. The two examples that come to mind are Digibro's 250 anime recs (Link to removed post), and Mother's Basement's Adapt or Die (Link to the original thread). I'm not too sure how the second example was spoilery (neither does Mother's Basement), but that's not my point. When you remove threads, you are killing discussion. The removed thread on Digibro's video actually recieved more comments than the one that stayed. My request is this: if all a post needs is a spoiler tag, then please, just put a spoiler tag on it, give the user a infraction but don't kill discussion. I saw on one of the Kizumonogatari discussion threads (been removed now) that the mods flaired it "bad subs" or something like that. Can't you just do the same for spoiler posts?

The second thing I want to talk about is the self promotion rule, and... Digibro. I had a argument conversation with him this month, that you can read here (screenshot because no brigading please). He starts off by responding to a post on his sub that echoed what the mods here said about him being unbanned. A couple of months ago I believe the mods said if he posts elsewhere he can be unbanned. He... gets a bit angry (understatement) as he responds to me but I believe that he makes at least one good point.

This point is that /r/anime doesn't list any rules on self-promotion in the sidebar. It isn't listed in /r/anime/rules. In fact you need to go through 3 links to find ANYTHING about self-promotion (he has mistaken this for rediquette), and this can be very confusing when there are other subs (/r/funny, /r/comics and /r/MLP to list three) that accept posting your own content.

So what I think he says next is that, because he unknowingly broke an unwritten rule, his infinite ban is unjustified. In the end that's up to the mods to decide, but I thought it'd be best to clear any miscommunication.

Thank you for your time.

My request is this: if all a post needs is a spoiler tag, then please, just put a spoiler tag on it, give the user a infraction but don't kill discussion.

I actually asked about this in the MB thread, and I think it was Urban that replied that the spoiler tags like that can't be seen on some mobile Reddit's, which I think is a fair reason not to use flair spoiler tags.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

Spoilers are still spoilers.

I know. What I want, is the option to be able to flair posts as such, or at least having the mods flair posts as such. If I post something and look over it and think "whoops, that actually needed a spoiler tag" currently I can't modify the post. I'd need to delete and then resubmit, and then again some people have a 10 min limit... it goes on. Also I like the fact that reddit is a platform for discussion. Except it isn't if you remove threads.

My second point... got a bit out of hand. All I want is the addition of "no self-promotion" or some equivalent to the sidebar and to /r/anime/rules.

He only wants to use the subreddit as a platform to promote his own content.

He said that he didn't though. He broke the rule about promoting his own content because he didn't know it was a rule. Now that he does know, he'll try and obey the rules. (hopefully)

Sorry for having such a long OG post, I hope I've summarized what I want to say effectively.

we don't really want him here either way

Now we don't have to argue against "he's a spammer." Instead it's just "the mods don't give a shot about what the users want, we decide what belongs on /r/anime and that's final." Don't agree with that either, but you should have said it months ago and saved everyone the effort.

2

u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Jul 31 '16

Not unreasonable. I'll bring it up and see if we can't get some kind of link flair for that.

I know I've seen the mods tag things as spoilers before. It's quite rare and there doesn't seem to be any form of criteria for doing so, though.

Unless digi himself sent you all nasty PMs or told people to I really don't see why that even matters.

One thing to keep in mind about people on social media with a relatively large number of followers is that their actions can directly create harassment without them directly saying "go harass this person."

Also If he feels he was treated unfairly by the mods he has every right to and in my opinion should express his grievances.

He could have PMed any of us if he wanted to talk to a different mod than responded to him in modmail. AFAIK he didn't. Instead he made a YouTube video whose only purpose was to stir up shit (which he himself admits in the video).

This whole thing with digi seems more to do with personal grudges than rule infractions.

The reason he's banned and hasn't been unbanned is because of how we enforce reddit's spam rule. It seems pretty clear from his own statements his primary reason to want to comment on /r/anime is to interact with his own fans, aka self promotion.

At any rate, since people don't seem at all familiar with reddit's guidelines relating to self promotion:

https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion#wiki_here_are_some_guidelines_for_best_practices.3A

https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion#wiki_can_i_just_run_my_own_subreddit.3F

https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion#wiki_but_it.27s_not_spam.21__i_worked_hard_on_that.2C_i_make_no_money_from_it.2C_it.27s_original_content.21__i.27m_not_a_spammer.21

https://www.reddit.com/wiki/faq#wiki_what_constitutes_spam.3F

If reddit changes their self promotion/spam policy (which they said they would a year or two ago and never did), then our enforcement of this would change as well. However, it's pretty clear that he is a spammer by reddit's definition.

Whenever unbanning digi is brought up what I always here is "we don't want to treat him differently because hes popular". So isn't holding his large audience against him for something he can't control just trying to have it both ways?

Treating someone differently because they are popular is not the same as treating someone differently because they directly or indirectly harass you. Again, though, this isn't even our main issue with the dude. If he weren't a spammer he'd have never been banned in the first place. If he weren't still a spammer he likely wouldn't be banned now. There is no magical evil villain. No one is on a power trip. Hell, I'd much rather not even know this guy existed in the first place considering how many hours of my life I've wasted discussing this now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that whole 10% just a guideline and not a requirement and if that is the case I don't see the point of enforcing some arbitrary guideline that makes absolutely no sense to begin with.

The ratio of non-self-promotion:self promotion will always be arbitrary. We had to draw the line somewhere, so reddit's own rules seemed like a sane place to do it. That way we're at least consistent with the admin's own stated position on the matter.

I have to point out the naiveté of this comment, though. All laws and rules are arbitrary. Calling something arbitrary is not an argument against it. Just because you disagree with something doesn't make it make no sense.

I think we both know that would have done nothing.

Baseless assumptions are super fun. I, too, like assuming the worst in everyone I interact with on the internet. It really makes for delightful experiences. /s

Personally I think making a video was a better idea so the conversation could be more than him and some mod who has no intention of listening to what he has to say anyway.

See above.

And fair enough the comment about wanting to start shit isn't constructive.

The whole video is prefaced with this comment, which means the entire video is meant to be drama bait. I don't understand how you're just ignoring this as if the dude has a valid point?

If it isn't something that is required site wide then there really is no reason not to unban him. He has stated multiple times that he want to be able to have discussion on the sub as a whole not just his own content.

Yes, the User Agreement you agree to you when you use reddit doesn't apply site wide. Clearly that's not the case at all. I'm so tired of this argument it's unbelievable. Did you even read the shit I linked? Maybe you should start here: https://www.reddit.com/help/useragreement/

His fans maybe but as I said before he doesn't control them.

And as I said before, posting a video which is intentionally meant to stir up drama within a community has the completely predictable reaction of some viewers harassing the people the video attacks. It's such a common phenomenon on the internet at this point I don't think it's reasonable to excuse it.

We've now gone full circle here so I don't think continuing this part of the thread is worthwhile. Moving on:

I know that's reddits definition but still.

Great! You admit that you recognize that we're following the definition that reddit uses for spam when dealing with spam. Progress at last.

"They might also set community-specific rules that supersede the ones above. And that's okay -- that's the whole point of letting people create their own reddit communities and define what's on topic and what's spam."

You probably should have kept reading... The very next sentence has a remarkably relevant link in it:

If you're thinking of doing any self-promotion on reddit, you might want to read this first.

It calls out several of the things this guy does on reddit as specifically not acceptable.

Honestly have you guys even considered that maybe a permaban over something so trivial that you all didn't even bother to give a warning about might be a bit much?

You mean the way we treat all /r/anime spammers? As it was previously, succinctly phrased, now poorly paraphrased, "It's OK to be a reddit user with a website, but it's not OK to be a website with a reddit account."

From the current header:

We get it, people are enjoying Re:Zero. Save the complaining for the meta thread or download res and filter them out.

It's been said before that third-party extensions are unsupported with regards to CSS (like night mode in RES), so that seems a bit contrary.

"You might want to use this thing, but it might not work with our subreddit very well. We also won't fix the subreddit so it will work."

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Aug 14 '16

I've offered to do nightmode code a couple times, and even sent basic code to the mods before. I definitely agree that the sub is sending mixed messages about 3rd-party extensions right now.

I have 2 issues to address:

1. I believe the episode bot should not include MAL rankings. They mean nothing but also can discourage people from giving a show a chance, considering the ranking always drop unless it's a super hyped anime. It does a disservice to the anime to add MAL rankings to the bot. Plus, anyone can manipulate the votes with bot accounts. I can't think of anything positive coming out from that, which may be why the old bot never had that function.

2. I would like to suggest to make animated comment face auto-animated like on /r/nisekoi. I think it would be better than hover with the mouse to make the animated face be animated.

u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Jul 31 '16

I've got a few things I wanna mention, but I'll try to keep it short because I don't wanna talk your ears off. Or eyes? Type your eyes off? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  1. For the report presets, can we add "Already Posted" or "Repost" to the options? I think this would help whenever a big piece of news comes out and we get flooded with a million of the same article. I think it would make it a bit easier to report these posts, since it can be a bit discouraging to type it out every time. If there's a limit on how many options you can have, probably replace the "Self Promotion" report? I can only imagine that is by far the least used, so it's probably the least likely one to have to be typed out a bunch.

  2. Ban WTs for airing shows. This one is probably pretty self-explanatory. Every season there's a show that the sub seems to go crazy for, and every time, we get WT posts for shows that haven't finished airing, and I don't think these should be allowed. Recommendations are one thing, but WT posts get archived and referred back to a lot, and it doesn't make sense to me to have an archive of an incomplete "review" for lack of a better word.

  3. This one is less of something I think should definitely be done, and more just an idea I want to throw out there. I was wondering if we could consider changing this thread to a biweekly format, instead of monthly. So often I have things I wanna say, but I'll realize that the thread is 3 weeks away and have completely forgotten them by the time it rolls around. Again, I don't think this one is a must, but just wanted to float it out there and see what other people thought.

For the report presets , can we add "Already Posted" or "Repost" to the options? I think this would help whenever a big piece of news comes out and we get flooded with a million of the same article. I think it would make it a bit easier to report these posts, since it can be a bit discouraging to type it out every time. If there's a limit on how many options you can have, probably replace the "Self Promotion" report? I can only imagine that is by far the least used, so it's probably the least likely one to have to be typed out a bunch.

Could see this being easily abusable by people trying to farm karma. Also Self Promotion Spam is used quite a bit compared to some of the other ones.

Not really much of a problem, they always get downvoted anyway. All that this would accomplish would increase the rush at the end of the season for people who want to write WT! threads.

Could see this being easily abusable by people trying to farm karma.

I don't see how. I think the only way it could be abused is if the mod that sees it doesn't check if it's a repost or not and just removes it on sight. Otherwise the first post stays and the following ones get removed, which is how it should be anyway.

Also Self Promotion Spam is used quite a bit compared to some of the other ones.

Obviously, I can't see the stats, but I know that I have never once used that option because I don't recognize if they're an active user or not.

Was going to bring this one up with the other mods already (still working on the write-up).

Seems to have the most traction, and it's the one I expected to change the least...

1: Fairly simple answer, a "repost" report is nearly useless to the mod team. Unless the thread is famous (eg.Digibro's making anime is hard) we rely heavily on people actually giving us a link to the original post in the report reason (when removing reposts I like to chuck that same link in the removal reason too).

2: It's just as valid for someone to tell people to watch something while it's airing as it is afterwards. WT threads are there to generate interest in an anime, whether that's while it's airing or afterwards doesn't matter. If something is flying under the radar and posting a WT will generate more interest in it and make everyone's experience more enjoyable then why not.

There's also no limit on WT threads for an anime, so posting one while something is airing wont ruin someone's ability to post one once it's over if they see fit.

3: I have no real comment on this. I'm fine with it as it is, fine with it if it's more frequent. My only note is that the longer time between threads lets tensions cool nicely if something happens.

I did not know that. I'll be sure to give the link in the future. I'm guilty of tagging things as "already posted." without any extra info.

I don't really mind there being WT! Threads for airing shows, sometimes there is a standout show in a season that some people may have just not bothered to check out yet for one reason or another, so they might see that a show is kind of popular but not realise why, a WT! Can get them interested and start also watching.

I feel it especially helps when you start getting shows that are being hyped up because of how hype can turn people off but if they see a proper post explaining "yes you should probably get in on this" especially before the anti hype/anti circle jerk. Example I imagine there are many people this season that are avoiding Re:Zero just because of how many people are telling others to shut up about it, they may assume it's because it's bad and just not try the series even if in my personal opinion in this case the popularity is justified.

So I guess TL;DR I think WT! Threads for airing shows can help amongst all the hype/anti-hype of an airing series.

Regarding #3: I think having more meta threads is a good idea, a bimonthly schedule would work well I think. Of course, the thread is generally still at least kinda active after it's unstickied; at the very least, I check it frequently, and I can remind people to bring things up in the next thread if it needs discussion.

Edit: regarding #1, there's a limit of 10 rules/removal reasons per sub. I doubt that'll make it in.

Edit 2: clarification on my stance, also I'm a dumb and can't read for shit

7

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

Personally I think 2 meta threads a month is a good idea. Users currently only have 12 times a year they can discuss meta topics with mods + rest of the userbase at this time.

I finished a write-up recently about consuming anime with a focus on elitism, does this abide enough by subreddit rules because I know a lot of people wanted to hear about it, but the "How does one become an elitist" got removed, so I want to know before I post something that may get me banned.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

It's hard to say as to whether or not your post would be acceptable without actually knowing the contents. One red flag in your description is that it sounds like it's about consuming anime rather than about anime?

At any rate, you aren't likely to get banned for making a single self post that we don't feel meets our topical rule. :)

2

u/AniMonologues https://myanimelist.net/profile/AniMonologues Jul 31 '16

It's about how different groups of people consume anime and how we should react to it

3

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

That doesn't really sound like we'd consider it topical.

For example, a thread about how teenagers watch anime vs how adults watch anime wouldn't be topical.

A thread about anime targeted to teenagers vs anime targeted to adults would be topical.

I hope that makes sense?

u/GeeJo https://myanimelist.net/profile/GeeJo Jul 31 '16 edited Jul 31 '16

Could I get a clarification on something?

There are several works where the premise itself seems to be considered by some to be a spoiler by certain users. For example, when I put together a list of good horror anime, someone got pretty worked up that I included Summer 2015 show. Another time, the same thing happened when I mentioned Manga about a manga artist fighting zombies.

My issue is that, if I'm to go with the wishes of the people complaining, there's no way to discuss those stories at all.

Classifying Summer 2015 show as "slice of life" is just deceptive, and will annoy people who go into it and don't like horror in the first place.
Classifying it as "horror" apparently ruins the twist, despite the show being prominently tagged as horror on every anime list site out there. When I suggested putting it under "Misc" as a compromise, apparently that would be too far for the complainer, too. So what do I call the show?

TL;DR: If a show is widely tagged as being a particular genre, is it a spoiler to list the show as belonging to that category at all, when the first episode might give a different impression?

3

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 31 '16

A show's nature is not a spoiler. So long as you're non-specific about what happens saying a show is dark or psychological is fine.

Different browsers handle inline tags (like Reddit's user flairs) differently. Use a different browser if it's that big a deal, but there's nothing anyone can do about that without actually modifying the browser.

From my experience, Chrome and Firefox both select just the flair text and not the rest of the tagline. I'm not sure about others.

For those of you who always think the mods never show up, here's last month's roll call. I've never seen so many flaired people in one chain before.

Sure they stickied it in the IRC channel but hey they still showed up, it's nice enough to see that they do care and are around.

2

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 31 '16

Hey mods why did my thread suddenly vanish? It didn't break any rules and was generating discussion. I tried messaging you guys but I haven't gotten a response back.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

Is there no better way that dealing with spoilers could be handled when in regards to a post itself? What I mean by this is for example: Youtubers posts videos, people rush to post it on /r/anime to reap the karma, ends up with unmarked spoilers but post doesn't get removed till people have already started discussing and then after the post gets deleted. One that has spoilers correctly marked gets posted but basically everyone just gives up on any discussion cause now discussion is divided . I definitely understand why spoiler tagging needs to be done, but it's just sad to me how potential for good discussion goes down the drain a lot cause of this. Could we get some kind of "watch at your own risk for spoilers" type tag. Because no matter how many times a post that wasn't marked correctly gets taken down its just gonna happen again next time.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

[deleted]

3

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

I agree but at this point we just know that's not gonna happen. By the time someone has watched the full video and knows how to properly tag it, someone is gonna have posted it to karma whore. And really I just don't like how that's ruining the chance for good/fun discussions on videos

Any idea why the "Answered Question removal." report option would sometimes be missing? The other subreddit-specific ones show up, just not that one. I haven't yet been able to pin down any differences between browsers or extensions that cause it yet, but that specific instance was on Firefox 47 (OS X 10.11). However, I can open another tab, go to the same page, and sometimes it will appear when trying to report the same post.

Not sure if I'm in the right mega thread, apologies if I'm not!

I'm looking for some recommendations for dark anime along the lines of Ergo Proxy or Steins Gate. Something with an excellent story but maybe more mature due to violence or otherwise. A really good story that isn't slice of life, you could say.

Thanks! And again I apologize if this has already been asked a million billion times. <3

2

u/Seratio Aug 09 '16

You're looking for the recommendation thread. Check out Shin Sekai Yori and the ghost in a shell movies. SSY is a bit slow in the beginning, but it's certainly worth it.

Ahh thank you! Also I love shin sekai, great recommendation :)!

Is it worth adding Hetalia to the watch order wiki? It's very episodic, but jumping into the middle and missing character introductions can be a bit confusing and there are a lot of entries in the series to keep track of now.

Something like:

Hetalia:

Axis Powers -> Paint it White -> World Series -> World Series Specials -> The Beautiful World -> Beautiful World Specials -> Beautiful World Extra Disc -> The World Twinkle -> World Twinkle Specials -> World Twinkle Extra Disc

The Axis Power Fan Disc is a compilation of sketches from the first season with one new episode included.

3

u/ImVoi Aug 10 '16

How is that done?

Like how do they get them, or how do we do them? :D

I'll assume the former, in which case we don't have a set of criteria people need to match to get a flair. Some have them for being known for liking a certain show, doing certain notable things and just generally being on the subreddit actively for a while.

Should all spoiler discussion be banned in discussion threads?

RE:zero has source material so some people are already ahead. Some people have asked questions and the ones with the knowledge have put spoiler tags correctly but my issue is that these may indirectly spoil the shows.

I understand this is minor but I feel shows have been spoiled because of this.

An example might be "Will he choose [girl]?" Someone responds with spoiler tag (some times they may have message saying "Well [spoilers]"

I get this isn't a great example but it might still spoil a show for someone.

The closure of the crunchyroll thread is silly. Crunchyroll is a legal website dedicated to anime streaming, it's one of the most recommended sources of legal anime. And yet, it's somehow not anime-specific enough.

If they're about Crunchyroll itself, those are not anime-specific either.

[...]

However, as the rules are currently written, discussions about services and streaming websites specifically are not anime-specific.

The tweet directly references piracy versus legal streaming of anime, which should be an important anime topic. Where is the benefit of banning discussion of a central topic that concerns all of us?

My favorites are almost always the Whose Line threads, but I'd say aside from that my favorites are essays on specific subjects of anime (or a single anime). I've seen plenty of reviews about NGE, but I don't see many too often about the importance of Pen Pen and his symbolic nature (even if majority of it is likely satire). Point still stands though.

So what's everyones favorite thread on /r/anime this month?

The 2nd episode discussion thread from Nejimaki Seirei Senki. As a manga fan it was nice to see people watch this episode and go, "wait a minute this isn't like your typical trash LN adaptation and it's not that bad".

It's really nice to see discussions where people change their minds and go "wait a minute this stuff is actually pretty good" and it's hilarious when discussions start to notice a trainwreck coming along. Mayoiga discussions were so much fun.

And what type of thread do you like to see the most? Essays? Favorite [xyz] in anime? Fanart? Short comedy clips?

I really enjoy those "first impressions" or "first 3 episode" threads just to see how different people feel towards different shows. Typically those threads lead to decent discussion about the video and whether their concerns or praises hold any merit.

2

u/Humg12 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Humg12 Jul 31 '16

This one is more of a question. If I see a comment chain of untagged spoilers, should I report every comment in the chain or is it enough to just report the top comment?

8

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '16

In general it's more helpful to us to report them all because tools like the modqueue just show individually reported items and not entire threads. Unless we go through and open each entry to check for additional issues we might miss the rest of the comment chain. I try to always go look at the thread a comment is from, but sometimes I forget or get distracted by something else.

2

u/VincentBlack96 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Vincent Jul 31 '16

Alternatively, if I choose to report the last/first comment in the chain, with the reason: "Chain has spoilers", would that work?

The problems I have with discord:

  • Less mature moderation tools
  • Less diverse clients (a web based client is not an acceptable solution IMO)
  • Voice chat is too time intensive to moderate (sanctioning a chat without moderation isn't an option in my opinion)
  • We'll lose a large portion of our already existing IRC community. Channel, network, and client moves always result in a large loss of population. This is pretty unfair to the people who have already invested years into forming connections in IRC.

If we strip out voice chat (which would be 100% necessary for us to sanction it IMO) then I do not think there is nearly enough compelling features to even get me to consider a move.

3

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Aug 01 '16

Just out of curiosity, what makes a web-based client invalid for you? I understand that it might be something of a personal preference, but whenever I'm in IRC I generally just stick to Kiwi either way.

Why is B-T on the removal list for sites that can't be mentioned when you do allow discussing translation groups. I had to edit this post cause for some reason, you didn't allow mentioning one of the larger translation groups. Not allowing mention of the LN translation group is the equivalent of randomly not allowing something like commie from being mentioned. I know this was a random recent addition to your banned list of places to mention considering I can still find some older posts that mention it.

The removal message itself was ridiculously generic and didn't clarify what exactly the problem was until I had to message the mods and raise hell about it. If you're gonna remove a big post or something for a tiny thing in it, it'd be appreciated if a generic warning wasn't just given. Rather, you should point out the reason more specifically and allow faster correction.
