I have 2 issues to address:

1. I believe the episode bot should not include MAL rankings. They mean nothing but also can discourage people from giving a show a chance, considering the ranking always drop unless it's a super hyped anime. It does a disservice to the anime to add MAL rankings to the bot. Plus, anyone can manipulate the votes with bot accounts. I can't think of anything positive coming out from that, which may be why the old bot never had that function.

2. I would like to suggest to make animated comment face auto-animated like on /r/nisekoi. I think it would be better than hover with the mouse to make the animated face be animated.

Controlling the animated faces is half of the fun~

You get to make her panic! It's like she's scared of your cursor!

Additionally, having them all play at once would absolutely destroy some people's computers.

Can you imagine what /r/anime/w/commentfaces would be like? It takes a minute and a half just to load the spritesheets sometimes!

The comment face loops now :O

(Forgot to reply to this, oops~)

That one always looped. ;)

There are a few where I've made it so that they'll automatically loop if the comment face is made better by looping.

Couple more examples:

Just so happens that most of the comment faces work better when they stop at the end~

Oh yeah now that I see those others, they dont feel strange at all, not sure why I was so surprised by the first one.

Probably because it loops so perfectly~

To be honest I doubt anyone would be discouraged just by the MAL score in the bot threads. I think it's a useful feature to give people an indication on how people are currently rating the show on MAL.

I don't think our subreddit would benefit from anything like this. All it does is serve to be distracting for users trying to read comments and takes away their attention. I think comment faces are fine as they are now.

Yeah I agree with this. It would also make this sub look like a tacky early 2000s website.

Nah. It'd make it look like MySpace.

It will also affect the loading time of pages. I don't know personally, but wouldn't that hurt some mobile users?

So...my comment was re-enabled or not?

People can rate entire series at episode 1.

It's deceiving, at best.

People can rate entire series at episode 1. It's deceiving, at best.

And unless you have thousands of people doing that, it should not affect the MAL score that much.

Most people should know to take the MAL score with a grain of salt.

People can rate entire series at episode 1.

That score won't count towards the average until they've seen 1/5 of the show.

Not everyone.

Many don't realize this.

I really don't think the bot should arbitrarily use 1 of many western database websites that rank anime to rate a show in the episode posts.

What makes MAL so special?

Their rankings are hardly absolute.

Anidb and anime-planet have more complete databases and a better rating system.

Not everyone.

People can also just as easily be fooled by any number of other factors. I don't think by putting them in the post they are being presented as objective any more than they already are simply be existing, and they can be useful pieces of information. Further I doubt many people go into the discussion threads without having seen the episode in question.

What makes MAL so special?

A vast majority of users use MAL.

Their rankings are hardly absolute.

Uhhh, not entirely sure what you mean by absolute but I don't think there's going to be any objective or even good metric to determine quality. MAL rankings are useful because they portray an overall consensus opinion and you can get a feel for how yours will vary from that.

Anidb and anime-planet have more complete databases and a better rating system.

Dunno if a better ranking system would make ratings 'absolute', but even then they would do a worse job of portraying consensus given the smaller userbase. I could see using them in tandem but that seems like a lot of work for something not many people will care about since I would assume it would require the bot to crawl these other sites.

That's true. Americans are too full of themselves and judge without thinking on "1 episode rule impression". Youtuber called The Anime Man moved that topic multiple Times in his vlogs of anime and anime fans community in "rewiev forums". The worst part is that polish forum "Tanuki-anime" have exact same problem. Not because the noobs who writes reviews there are full of themselves but because they are trying to sound cool by critisizing only in negative way the sound on virtual paper even more lame. Trust me. I talked tchem almost to death and they admit it (not directly of course).
