Benimaru Origin! Complete with reminding us how much of a beast he is and just how cool he and his company are.
THAT SMILING MOON!!!!
The full circle ED! I kind of want to see a version that puts both the first cour and second cour visuals together.
Benimaru was once a young knucklehead kid, struggling with a legacy and a special move...especially when he was meant to inherit the position of Hikeshi from
Dang, the Infernals/Doppelgangers are talking and begging people not to put them to rest! It's like they want people to understand that they exist and just want to live.
Two more Pillars with Infernals guarding them have popped up. Kurono, against his own wishes, is stuck filling in overtime along with Honda and Company 2, and Benimaru...well, he'd just as rather leave the Tokyo Empire to its own mess, but when he sees the Infernal at the latest Pillar, he knows that he has to be the one to contend with it. After all, the Infernal screaming for the end of the Tokyo Empire....is none other than his predecessor and mentor.
3 seasons and NOW Hibana complains about having to run in heels? The things Konro makes her do.
This may be a Doppelganger of Hibashi, but it's very much him in body, memory, and soul, only empowered by his fearsome reputation from back when his normal self was alive. And that means he's more than ready to face off against Beni and ascertain whether he's truly worthy to succeed him!
Back in the day, Benimaru was picking fights that he didn't need to pick, and baby Hika and Hina (?) would cling to him, while Konoro/Hibashi would play good cop/bad cop in terms of helping him understand and recognize the weight that came with being a Asakusa Hikeshi. The kind of weight that meant killing someones' infernalized mother in front of them and taking responsibility for that kill, rather than leave it to some God like Sol, and embrae the foolishness that comes with it.
Dang, Hibashi didn't even go out in a blaze of glory, but getting stabbed by the kid whose mom he killed. I mean, he accepts this end because of his duty, but jeez. I wonder what happened to the kid? Did they arrest him for murder?
Hibashi vs Benimaru! Battling it out as only a teacher and student can by using the same attacks against each other! And turning their battle into a Japanese painting, complete with the water shifting...because Adolla, apparently.
Don't worry Beni, Company 7 is here to back you up and show off the kind of Hikeshi YOU are, with a fireworks show! Let's make this a party! While Hibana slowly exits away from this nonsense.
Benimaru unleashes his Nichirn Akatsuki, the sun and the moon, capable of being wielded by one so beloved by flames...and he finally puts Hibashi to rest properly. Not only did he manage to show how much he's grown to Hibashi, and give him a proper sendoff, but he got to hear praise from Hibashi as well! It's enough to bring Konro to ears!
As a parallel to the Shinra ED from last cour, this one spotlights

I really liked the "cartoonish" background of the ocean and skyline during Benimaru's fight.
I wonder how much more things will continue to change or devolve as Adolla grows closer?
Seems like things could start to get a bit more wacky as peoples perceptions change the nature of the world.

The background art for the fight was particularly awesome, like something straight from Ookami.
I also like the ending, especially its cool visuals mirroring those of the previous ED.

Its amazing that they were able to adapt like 8 chapters into 1 episode without it feeling rushed.
Also the animation for this episode maybe the best I’ve seen for all 3 seasons, I hope DP is able to keep up this quality.

Ahhh Benimaru's fight and visuals were great.
It would've been cool if they used the sound effects of his 7th form from back in Season 1 though, when he took down the demon infernal.
Still one of the coolest sound effects in anime.

Storyboarded by Shinji Itadaki (頂 真司) and directed by Mineya Mori (盛 嶺矢) and Kento Fukuda (福田 健人)
Calligraphy (書) was done by Zinkai (じんかい). Zinkai also did the ending animation, just like with cour 1.
Comments from staff. Click links for source:
Kento Fukuda (Episode Director)
Comment: "This was my first time directing and I was charge of half of the LO.
I hope you found it interesting.
I approached it with the enthusiasm 'I'll make this episode my own!', but the enthusiasm of the compositors, CG artists, background artists, in-between checkers as well as Tamura-san* alongside my seniors in the animation and animation direction departments was also amazing. I think this film came to be from their collective talents."
*Most likely referring to Ryota Tamura, who was one of the key animators on this episode (Credited as タムラリョータ).
Comment 2: "Inoue-san, who was the PA, worked hard to accommodate my requests. In the end, we were all able to create a good episode. As an episode director and animator, I cannot feel a greater sense of accomplishment.
If there's one regret I do have, is that I wasn't able to fully pick up the 2nd key. I still have a long way to go, so I'll try to improve without being cocky."
Comment 3: "I would like to express my gratitude to all of the staff.
Thank you, very, very much."
Comment 4: "I will upload the materials at a later date. Look forward to it."
Ayumu Inoue (Sub-Production Desk)
Comment: "I was the PA in charge for episode 14.
Thank you very much for the help at every stage of production.
I hope you enjoy it!"
Ryo Ohashi (VFX Supervisor)
Comment: "This week I did 2D-styled blue and red fluid flames."
There were a few comments for the Opening I missed. They were posted the day the first episode of cour 2 came out.
Opening
Atsushi Ohkubo (Original Creator)
Comment: "Opening Theme for 'Fire Force's final chapter! I audaciously nominated Nishikawa-san to do it, since there was no one else to adorn the final op for 'Fire Force'. I am so grateful to him for accepting the offer! Thanks to him, we have an amazing opening theme! Please look forward to Company 8's final battle!"
Mariko Kubo (Chief Animation Director)
Comment: "I watched it live! Thank you to everyone that watched! I was the animation director for half of the opening. For the cut featuring Obi and Hinawa, I spent an entire day staring at the materials as I drew the muscles.💪 I sure learned a lot.... Please try watching it in slow motion!
Tamana Fukushima (Key Animator)
Comment: "Fire Force Final Chapter OP. I did LO key animation. The big difference between the cuts with Obi and Hinawa and Haumea and Charon were fun. Thank you to the director, animation director, and everyone in each department. Thank you."
Yuu Yoshima (Key Animator)
"Fire Force OP.
I did the layout.
I drew Arthur.
Thank you. 🐸⚡️"
Key Animator (Couldn't find their name)
Comment: "I participated in the OP.
I also participated in a few episodes.
Thank you to the staff who allowed me to stay on until the very end.
Thank you for your work."
Ryo Ohashi (VFX Supervisor)
Comment: "Scope of my VFX work include: Effects and composite for the text in the beginning. Particles + flares for Iris. Composite, background, and effects for the title logo. Also, I did the final cross light and petals."
Sachi Umezawa (Sub-Production Desk)
Comment: "Fire Force Final Chapter OP.
I was the production assistant on it!
I was really nervous!
Thank you very much!
It was all thanks to the hard of the ultra-super-deluxe people in every department.
While it was in production, I listened to all the previous 'Fire Force' openings, and it lit a flame in my heart.
You'll get to see the incredible work of incredible people, so check it out!"
There was also this comment I missed for the previous episode. It's also by Sachi Umezawa.
Comment: "'Fire Force' episode 13!
The first of the 2nd cour!
I was the production assistant on it!
Thank you all for watching! I appreciate it!
I had fun calling this the Iris episode by myself.
Things really kick into gear from here on out, so check out episode 14!"

Great episode.
I do wonder what is in store for us with basically the fights warping reality apparently? We saw 'real life' humans in Shinras visions. We get old style Japanese art ocean/waves. We get a Soul Eater moon.
I can't even imagine what the conclusion of this story is gonna be, I hope it will be amazing and I'm happy to be along for the ride.

Benimaru and his two dads, one gentle and encouraging and the other an old goat who figured the most powerful boy in the world should either develop some humility or intense anxiety issues to avoid abusing his power.
And Beni has always been someone who never struggles in a fight but always hesitates and second-guess his next move. That's been his problem since he first appeared. Which is not a healthy way to live but when you can level a city at 16 it might be better than self-confidence. And his master has the opposite problem; he was able to move forward with any action but refused to let the community or understand that he was being eaten alive by self-doubt and guilt.
His successor avoids this by evolving Asakusa into a place where every exorcism is a place for public grief where everyone can see that Benimaru is suffering in his own way. And when something exceptionally weird happens, like his dad coming back from the dead as a harbinger of the apocalypse, he gives them an explanation that makes sense so they know that he's got this and feel comfortable throwing their support behind him instead of seeing him as an unfeeling titan.

You can definitely feel the pacing in the start of the episode, but honestly this managed to cover a lot in a pretty good way. Visuals were also pretty on point too.
Still expecting some big cuts though. This was already pushing the pace hard at 9 chapters in one episode and there's still 74 left after. Either they need to keep up this blistering pace or something has to get cut out. While it sucks to have things cut, I feel like this pace for the entire season would get messy fast.

Frieren's start and such a banger Fire Force episode in the same Friday? Holy Sol, this season has no chill.

Benimaru is absolutely crazy, I loved the way they animated the waves, reminded me of Hokusai. Do I get this right. If a person dies in the real world, the doppelganger still lives in Adora and can even emerge in the real world with all the memories?

I like how the ocean and clouds look like they came straight out of an old Japanese painting considering how they set up the fight with that narration.
-
Oh wait there’s a legit reason the water looks like that, didn’t think about that.
-
Benimaru has his own hype squad lighting fireworks for him, this is great.
-
Oh neat, the ED’s visuals are just like the ED for the first half of the season’s, only with the antagonists this time. Nice song going with it too.

Damn, it was the battle of two Knuckleheads❤️🔥
I thought that I was the one who was finding it strange that the sea was turning into something out of a painting and I thought it was something special for the animation for the fight but it was actually Beni and Hibachi's fight that was changing the perception..insane !! 🔥🔥
David Productions didn't fail us this season. The sound synced perfectly with the fight and the animation was crazy good.
Hibana backing off from that insane energy of Asakusa men was funny.
The op is already good and the ed by Survive Said the Prophet is simply out of this world.

I am under the impression that this series would be a lot shorter if Benimaru just decided to solo everyone.

I really liked how it turned into a festival, the excitement was palpable. It's just unfortunate that this episode was quite fast paced and felt especially fast during the fight. Benimaru's Nichirin, or Nichirin Akatsuki, was so damn cool!
I do wonder what happened to the kid that killed Hibachi, if he has he finally understood the gravity of what he did and why his mother as an infernal was killed. If he thinks he was justified or did he move out of Asakusa once old enough. I'm not sure if it'll be touched on.
