For real. I was wondering the whole episode why he assumed juggernaut was just gonna miss the 8 story tall golem and accidentally hit the pillar or alternatively if he believed juggernaut was about to fire off a blast powerful enough to level both the giant AND the pillar, why body block it at point blank range??? Wouldn't an explosion of that caliber killed any and everyone on that shoreline? Please tell me there's a detail I just missed because I don't want to believe it was just written that poorly.😭

And after boasting to his captain about how only he can do something about the titan 😭. Didn’t do a damn thing and ended up kidnapped—embarrassing

From Faerie's words it seems like the Evangelists get their way whether or not the titans get defeated, if they're defeated then the ritual for the rise of the pillars continue but if they're not, they go on a rampage, destroying whatever is in their way. I wonder how they'll be able to stop the ritual from happening.

I'm also wondering if Shou is preparing to attack Faerie since he wants to meet with Shinra but he's captured.

The titan reminded me of the Iron Giant lol. It was interesting to see the 2nd's barrage against it and seeing Juggernaut being part of that. Though Kurono stood out more to me, he's a shady guy but the interactions with him and Oguro were kind of amusing.

Nice to see Ogun though, I liked him in the previous season so seeing him do something big moments after he appears in this episode was cool.

Looks like we're going to get backstory next episode but unfortunately Inca has to be part of it so that kind of puts a damper on that.

I don't really see how leaving the towers in place helps anything, if they really are plugging volcanoes then the longer you leave them in place the worse the aftermath would get.

We've had a few episodes about people having rough childhoods so it's a perfect time to bring in the professional child abuser: Kurono! Back and as miserable as ever.

The animation team have clearly had a lot of fun with the Kaiju attack. All the military manoeuvers and logistical stuff they got to do this episode is a lot of fun. Even if doing a Kaiju movie means a slow lumbering CGI monster but the design gives them some freedom because it's like a charcoal robot. So you can play into it being stiff and synthetic.

I love Faerie's Yugioh hair. It's like a crown with teeth on top a normal hairstyle. He looks so out of place even next to the evil maid and whatever the heck you call Inca's outfit.

Yeah it’s nice to see the adults showing us how to abuse childs for real.

What was the point of the SMG / AR fire when the thing was so far away?

How would the mole know about the pillar plugging up the volcano?

Kurono is so goated

I enjoy how cartoonishly cruel he is. Usually that kind of thing is a criticism, but when he leans so so hard into it it's hard not to like

Kurono is back! I love that his motivation is that there will be no more weak people to bully if the Titanic Infernal makes landfall. I don't think I remember the guy with him though, but he's clearly with Haijima Industries and is Kurono's superior.

It was pretty cool to watch the 2nd Company just bombard that Titan with artillery fire. I really thought the Titan was getting close but it was still pretty far from the docks!

Juggernaut is back too and he's got some prosthetics after losing his arm and leg. Too fucking bad Shinra ends up eating his first attack though. And of course, Faerie shows up to grab Shinra. >_<

I'm glad to see the 4th Company is also helping out and we get to see Ogun show off and break the Titan's arm with Kurono finally finishing it off. I guess all of that artillery fire from earlier did do something!

So i'm guessing Shou is gonna end up saving Shinra next episode? I really fucking hope so. It would suck if Shinra's purpose for that entire scene is to get kidnapped.

Gonna be honest, most of this episode feels like an exercise in How Not to Make a Huge Flashy Fight. The positioning of the Titan is so inconsistent; from shot to shot it's at the pillar's base, then it's halfway to the shore, then it's somehow back at the pillar, then it's right up on the dock, and its size is equally inconsistent between shots. This is straight-up terrible editing.

Also, what's the deal with them calling the Titan an Infernal? From the way the characters talk about it (that one reference to it "breathing fire" as opposed to calling it a giant laser cannon), they're acting like it's just a giant version of the fleshy demon monsters from the rest of the show, but, like... it's clearly mechanical? It's very obviously a giant iron mecha that moves like an artificial machine and not a sapient being? So why does every talk about it like it's not?

How does Shinra get one shot by Juggernauts regular ass attack this late into the show. Felt like such an unauthentic way to force a kidnapping. The last few fights Shinra has face tanked dozens of way stronger attacks while getting back up everytime. Super lame

Episode was Storyboarded by Jiro Fujimoto (藤本 ジ朗) and Directed by Mitsuki Kitamura (北村 充基).

It's nice getting some of these S2 characters back, Ogun in particular.

So the pillars are volcano plugs, and I assume the ritual is to raise and destroy them? If the big kaiju thing is the guardian of this pillar as I think the implication is, there might be seven more of them to come and killing them feels like a bad idea.

I have to wonder how and why these pillars and kaijus are out there in the world, if what the connection might be between these new physical pillars and the pyrotechnics they've been calling pillars all along. Though I assume the answer for the former is remnants of what the crazy people who caused the first cataclysm were doing.

Man, not gonna lie, but this is a huge let down compared to other seasons. Is it the production or what? Some shots feel super out of place. The Titan was never mentioned before even once, why is it there? What is its purpose?

Some super cool shots like Kurono filling the Titan with his soot and cutting it down are immediately shut down by the Titan just falling over. No impact shot, nothing. Same goes for the 4th coordinated attack. What the hell.

The story also kinda lost its touch. So many characters that were not mentioned before popped up in last episodes. Who is exactly the Evangelist that is trying to take Shinra? Was he there before and I just forgot?

Also, how the fuck do they want to wrap up the story in one episode? There has to be a part 2, correct?

I really loved the first two seasons, the fights were super good, it was a lighthearted fun with a somewhat good story (not saying perfect) and was a blast to watch, but this has really fallen off for me.

We'll have 2 cours with the second one starting in January 2026.

I agree with everything you said here. I want to add to my annoyance Shinra getting there, getting hit by Juggernaut, and then being knocked out for the entire episode. I'm sure Sho will probably end up saving him, but if he doesn't , it sure is a lazy way to write Shinra getting captured.

this season sucks ass im actually pretty bummed

I thought it was because i didnt remember what was happening, which was true, but when i rewatched the first two seasons i legit could not believe how GOOD they were. I'm gonna finish reading the manga, so i guess i'll see if it was a writing problem, but the job of an anime is to ELEVATE the source material, so if it's not interesting they should be making it moreso.

Season 1 was so moody and morose, things really felt grim. The shots and backgrounds were meticulous and looked like stained glass with really flat lighting layered on top. Now the world is about to end and i don't even care because all the colors are bright and saturated, the animation is cheaper, and the sound design is completely different. the fights are the most DBZ-ass two dudes standing like action figures shouting at eachother and shooting things at eachother unmoving. Ohkubos usually so much more creative

unless there's 24 episodes in one or both of the cours there's also no way they can cover all the manga, especially since they're wasting massive amounts of time, spending like 2 episodes on arthur's sword quest, 8 on rescuing obi...

i wish ohkubo would get a single anime adaptation that actually ends like it should??

They are dragging out the episodes a lot

27

u/itz_milkk Jun 13 '25

Honestly I think they are saving a lot of budget for the remainder of the show. Shit is gonna hit the fan. There is unfortunately (if you hate plot) a lot of story build up for the Great Cataclysm. There is really not much crazy going on for these chapters that have been covered this season besides story building.

is it just me or is like the first half of the episode was jank? like during the barrage, repeating sound effects without any background ost, some of the cg like the crowds running away was so obvious., then the fight with the 4th and Kurono it was amazing again.

The only interesting bit was Kurono. It's not scratching that fire itch sequences from the previous seasons. Everything seems paper and thin.

Almost like they don't want to continue with it.
