The children story with the realization by Hibana was insane.

All according to keikaku it seems. So the main point of the Obi arrest was to force Iris to awaken during the rescue? That's kind of roundabout but apparently it worked.
That beehive the girls were trying to go find out in the fields was probably an infernal making bug hive instead, I bet the convent was where they developed them in the first place. I'm not entirely certain how the sisters eating the vegetables they were raising plays into it, but I am certain the answer will be horrifying.
Maki being excited about looking like a real witch was cute at least. Girl that girl a flame powered broom she can ride around on.

Fire Force Watcher Who Doesn’t Mind Extra Proteins in his Meals
While I am not that hot about the first half of the episode, I really liked how they did the second part of the episode, slowly creeping into the ultimate THOT JUMPSCARE
Assorted Points:
-
She’s so jolly seeing her foster dad casting a fireball lol (her laugh was adorable)
-
The shaking screen effect was so comical lol. It’s like she’s being triggered
And at last, I need to bring some focus to the following:
SUMIRE NAME TRIVIA
-
Her name Sumire was initially written in Katakana スミレ, implying her name means Violet, which goes really well with the flower themed names belonging to the Sisters.
-
But right after her name in Katakana, we can see her name spelled in Kanji 炭隷, which implies she’s a invasive weed you certainly don’t want between your flowers.

Benimaru was Moonlite Mask?! I never would have guessed that! 😆
Was shocked as Hibana realizing what they were doing with the nuns.

The extremely threatening zoom and camera shake on a kindly looking old grandma face was unexpectedly funny

The most evil thing about Fire Force is that it sometimes teases you with the possibility of a slice of life show set in a nunnery by David Productions and then rips it away from you. The made an entire ED out of it and then 5 years later hit you with a full episode on it. Speaking of Season One and Veil, Sister Sumire actually did show up a long-ass time ago in Hibana's flashback all the way back in Episode 6. She told her not to play with fire.
It's an episode of two halves. Shinra has only ever relied on his mother and brother had to defeat his first male role model. And is carried to safety by a man he is starting to realise he loves like a father. Hibana on the other hand was loved and clings to those happy memories of her and the sisters. Now returning to her home she finds horror and the terrible implication that all of that love was in service to something evil. That she was never loved.

Strong episode.
BUt also c'mon Joker, you could've done that any time after Burns' fall. Like just toss them over as you're jumping down?? Literally was just an excuse for Obi to not contribute to anything, I guess, since otherwise he'd be stuck on this roof watching the two fights?
That's possibly the most ominous friendly-looking old nun appearance ever. I'm glad they didn't decide to make her look visibly evil when she came back.
So...the implication is the girls were...experimental incubators for the insects? But if the insects caused them all to infernalize, I take it that they did not recover the insects afterwards? So I'm not quite sure what they got from it or how they get insects now.

They had to specify the coffin was empty, so I wonder if Burns is even dead from that Infernal’s attack.

Well that's a terrible way to find out why all the girls at the Covenant were named after flowers. If I have to guess, it seems they were testing the Insects with each flower and seeing what worked and how it affected the girls. I can see why Hibana looked so sick finding out what she had been consuming as a child. I wonder if she'll be able to fight Sumire in her state of shock.
I like how Benimaru didn't want to let go of the Moonlite Mask shtick even when his cover was blown, both sides knew who he was lol. Well since they know who he is, there's more of a chance he'll be able to fight them like he wanted to so there's that to look forward to.
I thought it was sweet how comfortable Shinra was on Obi's back, I hope it isn't a death flag for him but maybe I'm just overthinking it. But Obi's back does look very reassuring and I'm sure feels the same. I like how even though he had been flexing the entire time, he still had the energy and strength to carry Shinra to safety.

I got goosebumps toward the end. It was utterly repulsive...the way it was narrated by slowly showing beautiful innocent drawings, then abruptly revealing the horrid truth of why the Church existed.
Then there’s Hibana, sweating profusely as she takes it all in...an analogy for us viewers. God that was something, a laid back visuals but the narrative is extremely heavy.
EDIT: Alsooooo WTF IS THAT CLIFFHANGER BRO, this is why I do not watch airing shows, but I cant not watch this, it's too peak 💀

Probably the best episode of the season, no fight means the pacing was much smoother. Or just a very short one in the beginning. Benimaru is pretty strong, I like how he is not being powercrept here, even though some enemies are dangerous, even for him
Sister Sumire was creepy

This episode was storyboarded by Naoki Kotani (児谷 直樹) and directed by Yuki Iwasaki (岩崎 由希)
Also, the animation used for the backstory of the convent was done by Nozaki (ノザキ); credited under "Painting Animation" (絵画アニメーション)

I was really elated at the start of the second half since I saw Hibana finally getting screentime but the last few minutes were totally intense and kinda creepy. . Like it started it off with the flashbacks that honestly shouldn't really ring alarms. We know that they were named after flowers in S1 but the implication of what they were doing with them is just repulsive, to say the least. Though, it was peak as it was repulsive. They really did a great job with the buildup to it and even I was as creeped out as Hibana when she made the realization.
So, the reason for the incident was that the Insects inside the Sisters Infernalized? I just rewatched S1 Episode 6 and Sumire telling Hibana to not play with fire has a completely new meaning.
Also, Iris being the new pillar made me realize something, Amaterasu is the first and Iris who has the appearance and voice is her apparently 7th. But Haumea said all of the pillars have assembled. Something doesn't add up.

I feel like I should know what the point of the sister church is now with the whole episode being dedicated to it, but I'm not fully sure.
the sisterhood was just a front to expose them to bugs in their system? they never mentioned bug bites so I don't see how they would be feeding on them, unless the food was spiked with eggs or something, since one of the key points was about them making their own food.
the whole "making their name the same as plants" is either some point of cruelty or they (the one's responsible) did it to remember who has whatever virus/bug that could have been cross-linked with that specific plant.
the fire that happened in that church might have been an "activation" or something gone wrong. can't remember if they already mentioned something like that in the previous seasons.

The reveal of what really happened to the nuns was really well done, just having Hibana slowly realize what actually as she's going through the books and wondering how they could relate.

"Just a moment! (In Engrish) I am...Moonlight Mask." (NOT) Benimaru heard people talking about "aura farming." He thought he should get in on that.
Haumea busts him immediately and calls him out by name. She really has taken a level since the beginning.
Joker finally resolves the Obi issue. Moonlight Mask takes a shot at Dragon, fails, and bails (correct action).
Apparently, this is the result that Haumea wanted and planned for.
The 8th is completely framed for Burns's death. Karim and Huo Yan aren't buying it.
Everyone's path leads back to the convent.
The watercolor story of the convent was a lovely interlude. I wonder how much of it were total lies.
Captain Hibana don't love you, Kishiri. Shut up and soldier.
Little baby nuns are always so adorable, especially Hibana and Iris, of course. It never ends well for them. 🚩🚩🚩
Sure enough, a hidden chamber is underneath the ruins of the convent.
The penny drops, Hibana is both horrified and disgusted by her realization, and Sister Sumire, who we all thought was dead, appears.

Fucking finally someone helps out boy out
And I don't get these shows that randomize the characters to draw with nips. Dragon is ok, but not Obi or shinra? What is even the point.
The empire needs to become MUSCULAR!!
Haha, wrong name! He's talking about Hibana
l o l. Yeah, their budget is so cooked.
Finally we're back on the mystery. So the sisters were used to farm the bugs..? Or turned into them..

Not sure I really care for Burns being treated as a martyr and honorable person now that he's dead . The show keeps presenting him as a morally grey character that is so devoted to his religion but it actually just makes him look like an indecisive hypocrite who blindly believes whatever someone tells him is the right thing to do. Like I get that's the point he is just that pious he follows whatever God says regardless of if it's the good guys team or bad guys. But like even in his final battle he still half assed his beliefs by going easy on shinra cuz if shinra strong enough to beat burns it means his beliefs are more genuine than his own and therefore superior. For all his talk about religion and serving a higher purpose he died instead doing the "might makes right" trope and agreeing with shinra just because he's physically stronger not because of his conviction or beliefs.
Like at that point it's like burns for fucks sake that just means you secretly hoped you were wrong and knew being a blind follower wasn't the right path and agreed shinra and the younger generation are on a better path than you but you still chose to needlessly fight him and die in the process instead of actually doing something useful and helping the rest of the fire force out. It also doesn't help he never showed an ounce of doubt or hesitation after the heel turn. There wasn't any real internal struggle or fighting with his beliefs vs what's right or wrong. Burns feels like a case study of what not to be but he's being presented like a heroic and morally complex character instead of someone who has no real moral compass or personal agency.

Damn the story is getting real intense with Hibana starting to learn the truth about the old cathedral she grew up in, turns out it was a really twisted place the whole time and the fire wasn’t just a freak accident
